Noyeal E. Yendrey Jr.

Edna—Noyeal E. “Thomas” Yendrey Jr., 50, of Edna, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001.

He was born Sept. 3, 1951, in Ganado, to Noyeal E. Yendrey Sr. of Edna and the late Edna Kulow Yendrey. He was previously employed as a stocker for Edna H-E-B Food store and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Survivors: father; sisters, Shirley Ann New of Speaks; Deborah Drought of Houston and Eunice Reeder of Magnolia; and brother, Earney Yendrey of Edna.

Preceded in death by: mother.

Private graveside services will be 11 a. m. Thursday at Memory Gardens of Edna.

A rosary will be recited 11:15 a. m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Services will be 11;30 a. m. at the church. Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2152.

Martha J. York

Edna—Martha Jane York, 93, of Edna, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003.

She was born Feb. 22, 1910, in Edna, to the late Andrew and Lena Balick Scott. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors: granddaughters, Sandra York Moore of Bryan, Brenda Beisel of Eagle Lake, Glenda Legler of Wharton, and Melinda Labay of El Campo; grandsons, Robert Clayton York, Timothy Brion York, and Walter William York II, all of El Campo, and Walter William York of Boling; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: son, Robert Charles York.

Graveside services will be 2 p. m. today at Memory Gardens of Edna, the Rev. Mitchell Chase officiating. Oaklawn Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2221.

Mrs. Sue York, Former Resident, Buried Saturday

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 18th at 8:45 for Mrs. Sue York, who had passed away Thursday at a Nursing Home in Rosenberg. Rev. Wm. Killian officiated at the Requiem high mass at the Assumption Catholic Church. Interment was in the Edna Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Louis Malcik, Fred Boepple and C. F. Spencer of Ganado, O. B. Fenner, Claudius Branch and Herbert Melton of Edna.

Mr. and Mrs. York were married many years ago in Edna, and moved to Ganado. Mr. York passed away 26 years ago, and she continued to make her home there until nine years ago when she moved to Wharton.

Bad health forced her to give up her home, and for the past two years she had been in the nursing home.

Survivors are Phil Kleas and a nephew, Verdrie Kleas of Houston.

Mrs. Grace Young

Edna—Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p. m. Tuesday in Edna Cemetery for Mrs. Grace Young, 87, of Sugarland, a former Edna resident. Funeral services first will be at 10 a. m. from the First United Methodist Church of Sugarland, under direction of Garmany & Co. Funeral Directors of Rosenberg.

Slavik Funeral Home of Edna will assist with local arrangements.

Mrs. Young was the widow of the late Rev. J. C. Young, who was pastor of the Methodist Church in Edna at the time of his death in 1945.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Edward Earnest of Sugarland and Mrs. Miles Mingaman of Uvalde; a son, Kesse Young of Corsicana; a brother, Jessie C. Miller of California; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Kate Young

Edna—Mrs. Kate Young, 82, of Edna, died Friday in a local rest home.

A resident of Edna for 2½ years, Mrs. Young formerly resided in Blythe, Calif. She was born March 18, 1886, in Bartlett, Tex.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p. m. Saturday at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Crofoot Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Edna Cemetery.

Surviving are four nephews, Joe, Clyde and Ollie Holloway of Edna and Arthur Holloway of Bay City.

Funeral Services Are Held Today for Mrs. Maggie Young

Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Louise “Maggie” Young, who died at her home in Edna Tuesday, Dec. 13, were held in the chapel of the Slavik Funeral Home today (Thursday) at 3 p. m. with interment in Edna Cemetery. Rev. John E. Toppins, pastor of Allen Memorial Presbyterian Church, officiated.

Mrs. Young was a native of Jackson County, being the daughter of James Moffett Hutcheson and Lila Keizer Hutcheson. She was born Dec. 17, 1877, at the family home on the Venado Creek, a part of which is now known as the West Ranch. The family soon moved to Victoria County near Inez so the children might attend school.

She married John W. Young on May 29, 1901. They came to Edna to live and here Mrs. Young lived the remainder of her life residing since 1913 in the same house.

Mrs. Young was a member of the Presbyterian Church and always had taken an active interest in the affairs of the church. Even though she attained the age of 75, she remained young in spirit and her friends are counted among peoples of all ages and races.

Survivors include five daughters, Misses Mattie and Winifred Young of Edna, Mesdames Catherine Clack of Burkburnett, Lila Michelson of New York City, N. Y., and Patti Berri of Denver, Colo.; two grandchildren, Patti Ann and Kerry Clack of Burkburnett; one sister, Mrs. Claude Branch of Edna, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Barney Daniel of Victoria, Cullen Vance, Callaway Vance, Thad Rose, W. T. Westhoff Sr., and Dr. W. M. Jones, all of Edna.

Margaret W. Young

Miss Margaret “Sis” Winifred Young, 90, of Edna passed away on Friday, November 10, 2000 at Victoria. She was born on August 29, 1910 in Edna to the late John W. and Margaret Hutchinsen Young, a pioneer Jackson County family. She was a graduate of Edna High School and was employed 46 years at the Jackson County State Bank as a teller.

In addition to her parents, Miss Young is preceded in death by her sister: Mattie Young, Catherine Clack, Lila Michelson and Patricia Berri and an infant brother.

She is survived by niece, Patricia Clack Serenbetz of Los Angeles, California; nephew, Edward Kerry Clack of Burkburnett, Texas; a great nephew, Robert E. Clack of Dallas, Texas; several cousins and close friends, Dan and Becky Stary of Edna.

Funeral services for Miss Young will be held on Monday, November 13, 2000 at 2:00 p. m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Victoria with the Rev. Joseph Hybner officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 3:30 p. m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Edna. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 5 – 7 p. m. at the Rosewood Funeral Chapel. 573-4546.

Memorial contributions may be made to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center.

Pallbearers: Chad Stary, Jimmy Steves, Glenn Gabrysch, Stewart Colley, Mack Colley and Gene Grove.

Honorary pallbearers: Evelyn Tomacek, Joan James, Glenda Hoffer, Anastasia Garza, Gladys Green and Emma Hessong.

Mattie Young

Edna—Miss Mattie Ward Young, 71, a retired Edna school teacher and member of a pioneer Jackson County family, died at 2:12 p. m. Monday in a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p. m. Tuesday from the Trinity Episcopal Church here, with Rayford High of St. Francis Episcopal Church of Victoria officiating.

Burial will be in the Edna Cemetery, under direction of the Jackson County Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Cullen Vance, Willie Porche, Bat Wells, Ted Hodges, Thad Rose and Harrison Stafford. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Miss Young was born March 17, 1902 in Edna, a daughter of the late John W. and Margaret Hutcheson Young. She was a graduate of Texas A & I College and taught in the local schools many years.

Surviving are four sisters, Miss Winifred Young of Edna; Mrs. E. E. Clack of Burkburnett, Mrs. Peter Michelson of New York, N. Y. and Mrs. Theodore Berri of Denver Colo.

Nora Young

Ganado—Nora V. Young, 88, of Ganado died Wednesday in a local rest home following a long illness.

She was born July 4, 1902 in Missouri, daughter of the late David and Minnie Davis Brock. A resident of Jackson County for 54 years, she was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Edna.

Funeral services will be at 3 p. m. Friday at the Slavik Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Robert Jones officiating.

Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens of Edna under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Lea Mueller of Victoria and Minnie Thedford of Lolita; a sister, Fern Jones of Rock Island, Tex.; a brother, Walter Brock of Weimar; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Young; a sister, Alice Peebles; and two brothers, Andrew and Tommy Brock.
