Alan Anthony Vajdos, 65, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017. He was born on Aug. 22, 1952 in Ganado to Stanley Vajdos and Wilma Sablatura Vajdos. Alan is survived by his brother Raymond Vajdos (Denise), and his former wife Linda Stokke; their children, Stanley Vajdos (Noel), and Rebecca Vajdos. Alan was a passionate musician, he enjoyed bringing the community together through music and loved nothing more than worshiping God with all his heart. There will be a musical vigil at Assumption Catholic Church in Ganado beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2 followed by a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. with Rev. Kirby Hlavaty and Rev. Michael Lyons officiating. Services have been entrusted to Russell Todish of Ganado Funeral Home, 361-771-2120.

Lolita ~ Freddie Joseph Valenta, 85 of Lolita passed away on
Wednesday, October 11, 2017. He was born in Wharton on July 31,
1932 to the late Rudy and Albina Valenta. He served his country
in the United States Army and retired with 38 years as a
firefighter/Captain with the City of Victoria. He was proud to
service his country and to be a firefighter.

Lolita—Funeral services for William A. Valentine, 83, of Lolita will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday from the Lolita Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Lolita Cemetery under the direction of the Jackson County Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Bill and J. P. Allen, Jack and Harold Deyton, Norman Parker and Larry McClure. Mr. Valentine was born Nov. 23, 1889 at Love Dove, Tex., and was a former resident of Yoakum. He was a retired school teacher and was a member of the Woodmen of the World and the Baptist Church. He died Monday in a Ganado hospital. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Alene Allen of Lolita and Mrs. Florene White of Houston; two sons, Merideth of Mateland, Fla. and Delaney of Marion, Ind.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Edna—Fidel Vasquez, 49, of Edna, died Tuesday, July 21, 1992. Mr. Vasquez was born May 4, 1943, in Newton, La. to Otilia Trevino Vasquez of Edna and the late Joe Vasquez Sr. He married the former Lucie Olivares on Feb. 25, 1966, in Victoria. He was a member of The Eagles Lodge in Bay City and was a restaurant owner. Survivors: wife, Lucie Vasquez of Victoria; daughter, Sabina V. Mata of Victoria; sisters, Stella Cavazos, Sandy Tristan and Annie Garcia, all of Edna and Georgie Vasquez of Victoria; brothers, Richard Vasquez of Victoria and Rueben Vasquez of Austin; and five grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Francisca Guerrero Vasquez, 81, of Route 2 Victoria, will be at 10 a. m. Thursday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna. Edna—Joe “Poncho” Vasquez Jr., 51, of Edna, died in a local hospital Monday, March 11, 1991, after a lengthy illness. He was an electrical maintenance worker for Southern Pacific Railroad and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. Mr. Vasquez was born May 27, 1939, in Wharton to Otilia Trevino Vasquez of Edna and the late Joe Vasquez Sr. He was a resident of Edna since 1958 and a member of Crusillios since 1959. He was also a member of the GI Forum. Manuel G. Vasquez, 56, of 1504 Travis Ave., died at 10:15 p. m. Monday in a local hospital following a lengthy illness. A resident of Victoria for 36 years and a railroad maintenance employee of Arthur Bros Inc., Mr. Vasquez was born July 9, 1924, in Edna to the late Juan and Regina Gonzales Vasquez. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows with burial in Edna Latin American Cemetery. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Edna—Octaviano Villanueva, 69, died in a Ganado hospital Friday after a long illness. Mr. Villanueva was born March 15, 1901, in Mexico and had been a resident of Texas for the past 62 years. He was a retired employee of Townsend Lease Service of Edna. Rosary will be recited at the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel at 8 p. m. Saturday. Edna—Funeral services for William Vaughn, 76, of Cuero, will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday at the Shiloh Baptist Church here, with the Rev. R. A. Hicks officiating. Mr. Vaughn was a native of Edna and a retired businessman. He was the organizer and a charter member of the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge. He died Wednesday in a Cuero hospital. His nearest survivors are two aunts, Ethel Mae Weathers of Corpus Christi and Martha Ann Porter of Edna.

Edna—Juan Vazquez, 83, of Edna, passed away Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009. He was born on May 16, 1926, in Edna, to the late Ricardo Vazquez and Maria Balderas Vazquez. He was a mold maker for Precision Manufacturing in Plano. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U. S. Army. He is survived by his daughters, Lydia “Lotty” Garza of Edna and Norma Gene Vazquez of Edna; sons, Juan Vasquez Jr. of Alvin and David Vasquez of Victoria; sisters, Sylveria Mata and Lupe Valle, both of Elda; brother, Melquedes Paz of Edna; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline Jacinto Vazquez; and a sister, Evlia Valle. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p. m. today, Oct. 27, 2009 at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel. Edna—Joe Willis Venson, 58, of Corpus Christi died Monday in a Corpus Christi hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday in the Cook-Butler Funeral Chapel in Edna with the Rev. T. L. Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Sayles Cemetery near Edna. Pallbearers will be L. V. Brooks, Eugene Brooks, Alvin Stovall, Cecil Stafford, Dan Robinson and Roger Lane. Mr. Venson was born July 14, 1927, in Lavaca County and formerly resided in Edna. He was a retired brick layer. Surviving are a son, Thomas Venson in Virginia; a sister, Mrs. Estella Nicholson of Dickinson, and five grandchildren.

Ola Mae Vernon, 89, of Edna, passed away on Oct. 13, 2017. She was born in Edna on Dec. 28, 1927 to John Ceasar and Myrttle Haynes. Ola Mae is survived by her children, Tyler Bookman of Goodrich, Rodney Vernon and Robert Vernon Jr., of El Campo, and Karen Williams of Houston; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters Minnie Ramey of Edna, Alvin Ceasar of Washington D.C., Don Thomas of Edna, Freddie Ceasar of Houston, and Randy Ceasar of Lorton, Va.; and a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceeded in death by her parents, brothers John Jay, Jerry, Rufus and Billie, sister Dorothy, and children Doris Stoval and Roger Vernon. Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 21 at First United Methodist Church in El Campo with the Rev. Harold Simmons officiating. Interment followed in the El Campo Cemetery. Francisco Dovalina Verver, of Edna, passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2012 at the age of 82. He was born in Palacios on March 27, 1929, to the late Fermin and Otilia Dovalina Verver. Francisco worked as a road construction worker for 30 years with Wade Construction. He retired from J. W. Faltisek. He was a Catholic. Glenda Verver, of Austin, formerly of Edna, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011 at the age of 46. She was born in Ganado, on Nov. 15, 1964, to Francisco and Mary Hernandez Verver of Edna. She was associated with Inspired South Adult Day Care Facility. Glenda is survived by her parents; son, Francisco Verver of Victoria; sister, JoAnne Blanton and husband Tony of Edna; brother, Fermin Verver and wife Susie of Victoria, and Frank Verver of Edna; and her caregiver of fifteen years, Mary Ann Ramirez. Glenda is preceded in death by her sister, Mary Jane Benavidez. Visitation was Feb. 25, 2011, at 6 p. m., with a Rosary at 7:30 p. m., at Oaklawn Funeral Home. Mary Hernandez Verver, of Edna, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018, at the age of 78. She was born in Edna, Texas, on January 9, 1940, to the late Ignacio Hernandez and Manuela Bentancur Hernandez. Mary was a homemaker and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, she was also known as the baby whisper to her family. Mary is survived by her daughter, JoAnne Verver Blanton her husband Tony of Edna; sons, Fermin Verver his wife Susie of Victoria, Frank Verver, Jr. of Edna; brother, Antonio Hernandez his wife Yolanda of Goliad; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-two great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Francisco Dovalina Verver; daughters, Glenda Verver and Mary Jane Benavidez; sisters, Lupe Hernandez and Marcello Soto; brothers, Modesto G. Mr. John Vesely, a highly esteemed resident of Ganado, and father of Mrs. Marcell Maresh and Mrs. Bill Macha and Fred Vesely of Edna, died in an El Campo hospital Sunday, May 16th, at 11:15 a. m. He had been in failing health for five years, and a short time before his death he had pneumonia and was rushed to the El Campo hospital for treatment, but it was in vain. Funeral services were conducted at the Slavik Funeral Home in Edna. The remains were then taken to the Assumption Catholic Church in Ganado. Father Maneth conducted the service at the funeral home. Father Kaspar served as deacon, Father Nesvedba from Wallis served Requiem mass and father Buckley from Edna acted as sub-deacon. The pallbearers were: Messrs. Jim Hafnar, C. M. Srubar, I. M. Ciesclewicz, Ed. Maresh, John Macha and Joe Blahuta. John Vesely was born May 3, 1890, at Fayetteville, Texas, later moving to Sealy. At this place, in 1914, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Gregurek. After farming a few years he operated a gin at Frydek. In 1924 he and family moved to Ganado where he farmed until his health failed. Mrs. Vesely died in 1943. Mr. Vesely bore the reputation of an industrious, honest, thrifty man; a faithful father, and a good citizen, and enjoyed a large circle of friends. Mr. Vesely is survived by the following children: Mrs. Marcell (Albina) Maresh, Mrs. Bill (Amelia) Macha, and Willie, Fred and Henry Vesely; four grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. John Kutra of Sealy, and one brother, Mr. Frank Vesely of Louise. EDNA - Larry 'Bosco' Dean Vickery, of Edna, Texas born in Beeville, Texas to John and Bertha Donnell Vickery passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017 in Victoria, Texas at the age of 62. Bosco is preceded in death by his parents; his uncle, Charles and his aunt, Cleo 'Bill' Moses, and his brothers: Don Vickery, John Vickery, Billie Ray Vickery. Survivors include his brothers, Melvin Vickery, of Corpus Christi, TX, Richard (Patricia) Vickery, of Edna, TX and Jimmy (Bernadette) Vickery, of Edna, TX and sister-in-law, Margaret Vickery; nieces, Robin, Elaine, Dee, Valinda, Debbie, Mary Jo, Velvet, Julie, Tanya, and DeAnn; nephews, John, Steven and Jimmy; and other relatives. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2017 from 5:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. at Eckols Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 1:30p.m. at Eckols Chapel with interment in Kenedy Cemetery, Kenedy, Texas.

Rosenberg—Juana Villanueva, 86, of Rosenberg, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004. She was born Nov. 24, 1917, in San Antonio, to the late Francisco and Leonor Esquivel Hernandez. She was a homemaker and a Catholic. Survivors: daughters, Marie Herrera and Janie Rodriguez, both of Rosenberg, and Celia Salazar and Angel Delacara, both of Houston; son, Oscar Villanueva of Edna; brothers, Frank Hernandez of Austin; 19 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: husband Octavionio Villanueva; sisters, Conovela Gurro and Rosa Covarrubias; and brothers, Ricardo Hernandez, David Hernandez, Mike Hernandez, and Pete Hernandez. Oscar H. Villanueva, 64, of Edna, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012. He was born in Edna to the late Octavino and Juanita Villanueva. Oscar is survived by his wife, San Juanita; daughters, Susan and Jennifer Villanueva and Mary Garza; sons, Martin Villanueva, Lazaro Garza and Joseph Gardner; sisters, Marie Herrera, Angel Delacerdo, Janie Sotello and Cecilia Salazar; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Edna—Angelita Gonzales Villela, 68, of Edna died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1993. She was born Aug. 16, 1925, in Sweet Home to Paula Rodriguez Gonzales of Houston and the late Cruz Rendon Gonzales. She married Domingo A. Villela on Jan. 17, 1943, in Gonzales. Mrs. Villela was a homemaker and was a custodian at Carver Elementary School for 10 years until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna. Survivors: husband; daughters, Mary Flynn of Freeport and Angelita Villela of Clute; sons, Felipe Villela, Ambrosio Villela and Frank Villela, all of Edna; sisters, Delores Munoz and Walda Kidd, both of Houston, and Antonio Martinez of Edna; brother, Domingo Gonzales of Houston; and 15 grandchildren. Edna—Domingo Villela, 82, of Edna, died Tuesday, May 30, 2006. He was born May 12, 1925, in Oak Forest, to the late Francisco Villela and Eloisa Amaro. He was a retired truck driver and a Catholic. Robert Warren Volkmer, of Edna, Texas, went to be with the Lord, with his loving family by his side, on Sunday, April 1, 2018, at the age of 62. Robert was born in Ganado, Texas on April 24, 1955, to the late Warren and Patsy Volkmer. He graduated high school in Edna in 1973 and later received his masters in Ag Education from Texas A&M University in 1979. He married the love of his life, Rose Tipton Volkmer on April 16th 1981. Robert worked at the West Ranch field in Vanderbilt for the first half of his career leaving as the production foreman. He then went on to be an Ag teacher at Edna High for the next 14 years. After stepping away from teaching, Robert followed in the footsteps of his father and Uncle Chunky as a cattle rancher. Uncle Chunky was considered as a second father to him. Robert loved going on vacations with his family to Colorado in the summer. He loved motorcycles, horses, his cows, spending time with his family and grandchildren, and above all his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Robert was a deacon at the Robinson Street church of Christ in Edna. He was a beloved and devoted husband, father, PaPa, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Rose; his son Matthew Volkmer and wife, Allison; daughter Anna Zahn and husband, Matt; grandchildren, Shane Warren and Bethany Kate Zahn; sisters, Luanne Kucera and Kathy Dugger and husband Johnny; and mother in law, Mildred Tipton. His cousins Jerry Hamilton and the late “Chip” Willis were considered as brothers; he is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews whom he loved dearly. In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his Uncle Chunky and father-in- law “Artie” Tipton. Visitation was Thursday, April 5, 2018, from 5-8 p.m., in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. A celebration of life was on Friday, April 6, 2018, in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Evangelists Phillip Stuckey and Boyd Jennings officiated. Interment followed at the Volkmer home, which was his most favorite place in the world. Pallbearers were Jerry Hamilton, Michael Tatum, Bruce Hamilton, Jacob Hamilton, Jake Tipton, Lance Tipton, Joel Frankel, and J Bryce Dugger. Honorary Pallbearers are Bryan James, Terry Tipton, Bill Tipton, Charles Tipton, Johnny Dugger, and the elders and deacons of the Robinson St. church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Attn: Office of Development, 2900 N.
