Cemetery & Obituary Index |
On the 28th of May 2024 the Lord sent out a formal invitation to Rosa Sabedra, one of his kindest and most caring servants, to join his kingdom. She was considered as the caregiver for her family. You could always count on her phone calls to check in and make sure everything was going well for you. After talking over the phone, she'd add you to her daily prayers to ensure that you had even more blessings and good fortune sent your way. It's easy to say her heart was full of kindness, because she loved those around her so deeply. When she said she was just a phone call away she truly meant it. Her conversations and laughter will truly be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her father Daniel Sabedra; sons Carlos Arriaga (Aracely) and Nathan Sabedra; sisters Linda Sabedra Stern (Marcus), Dana Sabedra, Doris Castillo (Edward) and Virginia Ramos; and grandchildren Allie Hernandez, Daiden Hernandez, Daylon Gutierrez, Kalub Sabedra, Paul Rodriguez, Nathan Sabedra Jr., Julian Sabedra, Giselle Arriaga and Joey Galileo Arriaga. James Harlan Sanders, 54 years young, was called home by his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 26, 2023. James was born in Bay City, Texas on Friday, February 7, 1969 to Jimmy and Carol Sanders. James has been survived by his loving family, mother, Carol Sanders, wife, Denise Sanders, brother Steven Sanders and his wife Kaylynn, mother-in-law, Linda Denker and most especially his beloved children; Celeste Sanders, Austin Sanders and Addisyn Sanders, also his nieces; Krista Sanders, Shaie Sanders and Shannan Sanders, and nephew, Garrett Tupa and his wife Brittany. He has been preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Sanders. James loved life! In fact, he would often tell you, "OUT-SHHANDING!" and he said it often. His phone was always in use talking to his friends, co-workers, customers, family for hours on end. How he recalled all those stories that he could recite over over is beyond me, but he loved to tell stories of his life. When James would laugh, tears had to be wiped from his eyes. In fact, many nights he laughed in his sleep. He gave good strong handshakes, and was known as a Good Genuine Man. A Christian. He loved us and we all knew it. I am thankful for all the vacations we took as a family. We have memories that will last us a lifetime. I know this man left his mark on the world. He will be remembered by many, and this a testament of how he treated others. The silver lining is knowing he is reunited with his Dad, gets to finally meet my Dad, and his other family and friends in Heaven. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to help defray the cost of the funeral, and medical expenses. There will be a Celebration of Life Service to Honor James on Monday, December 11th, 2023 at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Rick Dubroc officiating, beginning with visitation from 9:am to 10:am, Rosary being recited at 10:am and Memorial Service at 10:30 am. Daniel Willie Sless was born on July 17, 1936, to the late Willie and Esther Sless in Ganado, TX, where he lived all of his life. He graduated from Ganado High School and enlisted in the United States Army to serve a full term. On April 22, 1961, he married the love of his life, Wilma Quinn, and had three children David, Darrell, and Danny who learned from him how to live with love and integrity. They shared together his sense of humor and love for the outdoors. Daniel worked at Alcoa for 30 years where he retired in 1992, but that wasn’t his only job. Daniel and Wilma pursued many operations to include running the liquor store, raising Emus and some deer, making homemade wine, and keeping after their pecan orchard where he spent many long hours with his children and grandchildren. Daniel loved picking satsumas and his garden goods to share with his many grandchildren and great grandchildren, to whom he is known as PoPo and Big PoPo. In his latter days, Daniel looked forward to being picked up by his son David to go have a few beers at KC’s bar. He also enjoyed gathering with his loved ones at birthdays and holidays, where you could always find him mingling around the sweets. He loved baking and showing off his homemade buttermilk pies. He even created his own concoction to include his pecans caramelized and baked on top. Daniel’s sense of humor kept everyone with a smile on their face. He always had a joke up his sleeve, but his favorite was that yankee doodle joke he told countless times and his famous rooster coin he tricked many into rubbing for “good luck”. Daniel spent his final weeks of life being cared for at home by his grandson Brandon, just as he asked. Daniel went to be with our Lord on July 8, 2024, at age 87. While our hearts mourn Daniel’s loss, we take comfort in knowing he will celebrate his 88th Birthday with his loved ones that preceded him in death to include his parents Willie and Esther, sister Loriene Davis, wife Wilma, and son Darrell. Relatives and friends were shocked Saturday night when they heard of the sudden passing of Mr. F. M. Sowell, a well known Jackson County citizen and for the past few years night watchman in Edna. Death came from a sudden heart attack probably caused by excitement and excessive exercise. He suffered two previous attacks before the fatal one Saturday night. While assisting local peace officers quiet a fight at a Negro beer parlor, Mr. Sowell became ill and a few minutes after being placed in Deputy Ben Crabb’s car he passed away. Mr. Crabb was taking him to a doctor. The funeral service was held at the Slavik Funeral Home in Edna at 3:00 P. M., Monday, November 29, and it was conducted by his pastor, Rev. Carl Schlomach. The remains were laid to rest in the Edna Cemetery. Frances Marion Sowell was born March 3, 1882, in Guadalupe County. September 23, 1902, he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Elizabeth Anderson at Waelder, Texas. When Mr. and Mrs. Sowell moved to Jackson County many years ago they settled in the Cordele community where he and his sons farmed for a number of years. During the war years Mr. Sowell served as peace officer in Houston, and later returned to Edna to reside. For the past few years he was city night watchman and was on duty in this capacity when he suffered a heart attack that cost him his life. As a citizen and neighbor Mr. Sowell was held in high esteem by the people of this section of the county. Since 1925 he had been a member of the Edna Baptist Church. In his passing the county has lost a good citizen, and his family a faithful and fond husband and father. Besides his widow Mr. Sowell is survived by nine children. They are: Eddie of Edna; Leon and Raymond of Agua Dulce; V. K. of Edna; Mrs. Dorien Jackson of Houston, Olan of Yoakum, Mrs. Iris Kennedy of Houston, Beauford of Edna, and Mrs. Nadine Schrek of Wichita, Kans. Thirteen grand children are also left to mourn the passing of Mr. Sowell. The Herald joins the other friends of the family in extending heartfelt sympathy in their hour of sorrow.
