Pedro Z. Sanchez Jr.

Pedro Z. “Pete” Sanchez, Jr., of Katy, passed away Monday August 15, 2011 at the age of 59. He was born in Donna on Sept. 14, 1951, to Pedro J. Sanchez of La Ward and the late Olivia Zuniga Sanchez.

Pete is survived by his father; daughters, Olivia Ann Sanchez of Vanderbilt, and Sylvia Ann Sanchez of LaSalle; sons, Pedro Zuniga Sanchez, III of LaSalle, and Juan Jose Z. Sanchez, Sr. and wife Alisha of Katy; sisters, Juanita Williams of San Antonio, Mary Gutierres (Ismael) of La Ward, Cleo Sanchez of La Ward, and Delores Sanchez of San Antonio; brother, Noe Sanchez (Barbara) of Houston, Eutimio Sanchez (Angelica) of La Salle, Javier Sanchez (Maria) of LaSalle, Albert Sanchez (Eva) of Houston, Nathaniel Sanchez of La Ward, Rubin Sanchez (Tina) of Houston, Joe Sanchez (Emma) of Katy, and Juan Sanchez (Claudine) of Lolita; and seven grandchildren.

Pete is preceded in death by his mother.

Visitation was Aug. 17 from 5 – 7 p. m., at Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna. Funeral services were held at 10 a. m., Aug. 18, at Vanderbilt Baptist Church. Burial followed in Red Bluff Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Hudson officiating.

Pallbearers were Pete’s eight brothers.

Mrs. Sappington, 49, Dies Here Tuesday – Ethel Kate Sappington

Mrs. Ethel Kate Sappington, 49, passed away Tuesday at her home here, following a heart attack. Funeral services are pending the arrival date of a daughter living in Japan. The rites will be held at the Edna Baptist Temple, with Rev. Oral Speed and Rev. Avery officiating, and interment will be in the Red Bluff Cemetery.

Mrs. Sappington was born in Oklahoma on Nov. 9, 1910, and had been a resident of Jackson County the past 40 years. She was an active member of the Baptist Temple.

She is survived by her husband, Claude Sappington Sr., of Edna; and these sons and daughters, Claude Jr., Perry and Kathy Nell of Edna, Horace of Victoria, Jackie Lee of Corpus Christi, Jerry of Fairbanks, Alaska, William of San Diego, Calif., and Eunice Oneta Fauts of Tokyo, Japan; and nine grandchildren.

She also leaves these brothers and sisters, Estell Moody and Mrs. Bill Hoskins of Lolita, Mrs. Lois Casper and Mrs. Mildred Contrell of Monroe, La., Jerome Maxey of Houston and E. Maxey of Giddings.

Faye Sappington

Red Oak--Faye Sappington, 86, of Red Oak, Texas, formerly of Edna, passed away on Thursday Oct. 4, 2012. She was born January 11, 1926 in Madisonville, Texas to the late Jay and Erma Rhodes Bozeman. She retired from Edna I.S.D.


She is survived by her daughter, Charmianne Womack, Red Oak, Tex. and son James (wife Mary) Sappington, Jr., Beaumont, Tex. Grandchildren; Lauren, Laina, and Luke Womack, Claire (husband Jacob) Maas, Shae (husband Cory) Collins, and Elizabeth Sappington. Great-Grandchildren; Aceson Womack, Christian Maas, and Lena Collins.


Visitation will be Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 5 ~ 7 pm at the Slavik Funeral Home, 209 N. Allen St., Edna. Services will be graveside at 2:00 pm, Sunday, October 7, 2012 in the Red Bluff Cemetery, with Rev. Joe McClanahan officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Coach Sappington Memorial Fund at the First Baptist Church in Edna.

Cynthia K. Schicke

La Ward—Cynthia K. Schicke, 49, of La Ward, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998.

She was born Aug. 31, 1948, in Marlin to the late Charles H. Sr., and Selma A. Grohoske Lessman. She was an officer in charge at the U. S. Postal Service in Francitas. She was a member of Lolita United Methodist Church.

Survivors: husband, Dan Schieke; daughter, Erica D. Schicke of La Ward; son, Cyrus K. Schicke of La Ward; one sister; and three brothers.

Services will be 10 a. m. Saturday at Slavik Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be at Red Bluff Cemetery. Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 782-2152.

Pallbearers: Victor M. Moreno, Tom Morgan, G. W. Burt, Ronnie Williams, Dennis Karl and Kevin Barnett.

Mr. Henry Schoonover

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Red Bluff Cemetery for Mr. Henry George Schoonover who passed away Monday morning.

Mr. Schoonover was born in Bethany, Mo., Sept. 18, 1882, and moved to Lolita in 1935, and has lived there with his daughter, Mrs. A. J. Willoughby.

He is survived by four children: Mrs. Willouby, Mrs. Audry Opal Murray of Richland Springs, Mrs. Mildred Kathleen Sappington, and Neil Schoonover; nine grandchildren, and eight brothers and sisters.

The funeral services were under the direction of the Hevelka Funeral Home of Edna, with Rev. Murray O. Johnson, Methodist minister, officiating. The pall bearers were: J. H. Hamilton, Frank Cobbs, Leon Frels, Vernon Allen, A. B. Billingsy, and Charlie Newport.

Marion Elbert Schoonover

Lolita--Marion Elbert Schoonover, of Lolita, Texas, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the age of 67. He was born in El Campo, Texas, on September 30, 1946, to the late Marion Neil and Faye Deyton Schoonover.

Elbert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He will be truly missed.

Elbert is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Kay; daughter, Laura Willoughby and husband Carl of Paris, Kentucky; son Bert Schoonover and wife Alesia of Lolita; brother, Willard Schoonover of Lolita; grandchildren, Mason, Kelsey, Axel, Karston, Kelson, Kindin, Rosalee, Mazie, Kowen and Ann Marie; great-grandchildren, Zowie and Briggs.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Susan Schoonover.

Funeral services will be 2 p. m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, at the First Baptist Church, Lolita, Tx. Burial will follow at Red Bluff Cemetery, in Lolita, Tx.

Mary Ann Bruce Schoonover

Lolita--Mary Ann Bruce Schoonover, of Lolita, passed from this life in peace on Saturday, December 8, 2012, surrounded by her family, at the age of 71. She was born in Houston, on May 6, 1941, to the late Robert Leo and Uretha Nelson Bruce.

Mary Ann graduated from Industrial High School where she met the love of her life, Willard Schoonover.

They eloped on November 19, 1958. Mary Ann loved to draw, paint, sew, crochet, knit, and embroider. She also loved to fish, hunt, and camp. She attended the First Baptist Church of Lolita and will be greatly missed by many.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Willard H. Schoonover; daughters, Judy (Lupe) Lopez of Lolita, Joyce Bernal of Lolita, Mary (Shannon) Greer of Farmington, Arkansas, and Marla Schoonover of San Antonio; son, Willard H. Schoonover Jr. of Lolita; sister, Diana (Larry) Vollert of Liberty; Mary Ann is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Nelda Newton; brother, Robert Bruce; grandson Lupe Lopez III; great grandson, Tyson Gwosdz; and niece Lisa Miller.

Burial will follow service at Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita. 

Pallbearers will be Mary Ann's grandsons.

Mary Faye Deyton Schoonover

Lolita--Mary Faye Deyton Schoonover, 76, of Lolita died Saturday, Feb. 11, 1995. 

She was born June 17, 1918 in North Carolina to the late W. W. and Dora Gunter Deyton. 

She was retired from the Lolita School Cafeteria where she worked for 35 years as cafeteria supervisor and she was a member of the Lolita Baptist Church. 

Survivors : daughter, Susan Schoonover of Lolita: sons, Willard Schoonover and Elbert Schoonover, both of Lolita; sisters, Shereen Ashley of Lolita, Mereen Beals of Pasadena, and Frances Stern and Essie Lewallen, both of San Antonio; brother, Harold Deyton of Lolita; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. 

Visitation: 4 p.m. today until service time Monday, Slavik Funeral Home. 

Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Lolita Baptist Church, the Rev. Gene Rice officiating.

Burial: Red Bluff Cemetery, Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, (361)782-2152. Memorials: Lolita Baptist Church.

Susan Y. Schoonover

Arkansas--Susan Y. Schoonover of Farmington, Arkansas, formerly of Lolita, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the age of 58. She was born in Ganado on Sept. 2, 1951 to the late Marion Neil and Mary Faye Deyton Schoonover.

Susan is survived by her brothers, Willard Schoonover and wife Mary Ann, and Elbert Schoonover and wife Kay; aunts, Shereen Deyton Ashley, and Mereen Deyton Beals and husband Gilbert, all of Lolita; and her nieces and nephews, Judy (Lupe) Lopez, Joyce Schoonover, Willard Schoonover Jr., Mary (Shannon) Greer, Marla Holiman, Bert (Alesia) Schoonover, and Laura (Carl) Willoughby.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation was 5-8 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2010, at Oaklawn Funeral Home. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, May 8, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Lolita. Burial will follow in Red Bluff Cemetery. Rev. Gary Thedford will be officiating.

Pallbearers will be Taylor Schoonover, Blaine Holiman, Alex Lopez, Willard Schoonover III, Mason Schoonover, and Jac Cooper.

Laurie D. Schroeter

Laurie D. “Rip” Schroeter, 70, of Victoria, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998.

He was born Oct. 17, 1928, in Yorktown to the late Walter and Elsie Dowling Schroeter. He was a retired outside machinist for Union Carbide, having served 34 years. He was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.

Survivors; wife, Glendola Slaughter Schroeter; daughter, Beth Caraway of Victoria; son, Robert Lee Schroeter of South Carolina; and one grandson.

Preceded in death by: brother, Walter James Schroeter.

Prayer service will be at 7:30 p. m. today at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.

Services will be 2 p. m. Thursday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, the Rev. John Waak officiating.

Graveside services with military honors will be 3:30 p. m. today at Red Bluff Cemetery under the auspices of VFW, DAV, CWV, American Legion and Marine Corps League. Rosewood Funeral Chapels, Victoria, 573-4546.

Eugene A. Schumaker

Lolita—Eugene Andrew Schumaker, 69, of Lolita died Saturday, Dec. 7, 1996.

He was born Aug. 8, 1927, in El Campo to the late Auther and Allie Northcutt Schumaker. He was a self-employed farmer and served in the U. S. Army. He was a member of Lolita Baptist Church.

Survivors: wife of 51 years, Kathryn Brown Schumaker; daughters, Linda Allen of Lolita and Gena Penters of Ganado; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a. m. Tuesday at Lolita Baptist Church, the Rev. Gene Rice and Steve Sutton officiating.

Burial will be at Red Bluff Cemetery. Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 782-2152.

Mary Lanell Browning Shutt

Edna--Mary Lanell Browning Shutt, 87, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 31, 2016.

She was born in Jackson County, Texas on May 31, 1928 to Aubre Clinton and Carrie Maria Whybark Browning.

Mary worked in banking most of her adult life. Mary will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mary is survived by her children: Linda and W.O. Stewart, Phyllis and Fred A. Jones, Anna and Jimmy Arage, and Clinton and Marilyn Shutt. Also by her nineteen grandchildren, twenty-eight, great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, also her sister Corrine Reeves.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 58 years; Harvey August Shutt, numerous siblings, and several grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 3, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Slavik Funeral Home;

Visitation will also be held on Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am at Redeemer Lutheran Church 504 Dugger Street; Edna, TX 77957.

Immediately followed by Funeral Service at 10:00 am, with Pastor Andrew Schroer officiating, followed by interment at Redbluff Cemetery in Lolita.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Redeemer Lutheran Church of Edna, Texas.

Marie Simek

La Ward—Marie Barbara Nappi Simek, 74, of La Ward died Friday, March 29, 1996.

She was born June 23, 1923, in Matawan, N. J. Mrs. Simek was a dietary technician for Retired Care Inn of Ganado. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Lolita and a member of the volunteer fire department in La Ward.

Survivors” husband, Edward F. Simek; sons, James E. Simek of Vanderbilt and David Lee Simek of Inez; sisters, Violet Navarro and Lorene Plise both of South San Francisco, Calif.; brothers, Jerry Nappi and Mario Nappi both of Sunny Vale, Calf., Eddie Nappi of Calif., and Johnny Nappi of Nevada; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents, Mario Joseph Nappi and Elviria Bioletti Nappi; daughter, Linda Mae Simek Callaham; and sister, Margaret Nappi Allen.

Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p. m. today before the funeral.

Services will be held at 2 p. m. today at the Rosewood Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Mike Curry officiating.

Frank Slaughter

Edna—Frank Slaughter, 87, of Edna died Friday in a Victoria hospital following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held a 3 p. m. Sunday at Slavik Funeral Home chapel in Edna with the Rev. Barney Matocha officiating.

Burial will follow in Red Bluff Cemetery.

Mr. Slaughter was born Jan. 18, 1899, in Lavaca County to Arilla ad Ben Fitzhenry Slaughter. He had resided in Jackson County since 1946 and was a retired farmer and rancher.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola, on Nov. 1, 1972.

Surviving are a daughter, Glendola Schroeter of Victoria; a sister, Emma Voss of San Antonio; two brothers, Oscar Slaughter of Victoria and Lee Slaughter of Palacios; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robert Slaughter, Alvin Bannert, Ronald Voss, Kenneth Peterson, Charles Ogburn and Douglas Moring.

Lee Slaughter

Palacios—Funeral services for Lee Ander Slaughter, 87, of Palacios, were held Tuesday at Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R. H. Zumalt officiating.

Burial followed in Red Bluff Cemetery in Jackson County.

Mr. Slaughter died Sunday at his residence.

Born Aug. 23, 1901, in Jackson County to the late Benjamin Franklin and Jane Fitzhenry Slaughter, he was a retired farmer and rancher. He was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Mae Huddleston Slaughter, and a son, Norman Lee Slaughter.

Surviving are a daughter, Doris Harrison of Palacios; a son, Robert Lee Slaughter; a sister, Emma Voss of San Antonio; a brother, Oscar Slaughter of Bloomington; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Viola Slaughter

Edna—Funeral services for Mrs. Viola Slaughter, 71, of Edna will be held at 3 p. m. Thursday from the Slavik Chapel, with Herbert Hahn officiating.

Burial will be in the Red Bluff Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Mrs. Slaughter was born Feb. 11, 1901 in Nacatusch [Natchitoches], La., but lived most of her life in this county. She died Wednesday in a Victoria hospital after an illness of six weeks.

Surviving are her husband, Frank Slaughter of Edna; a daughter, Mrs. L. D. (Glendola) Shroeter of Victoria; a sister, Mrs. Alvie Linton of Los Angeles, Calif.; three brothers, Woodrow Dill of Victoria, Almott Dill of Houston and Fred Dill of Porter; and two grandchildren.

Roy Vaughn Sneed, Sr.

Edna--Roy Vaughn Sneed, Sr., of Edna, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at the age of 79. He was born in Vaughn, New Mexico on August 1, 1938, to the late Walter James Sneed and Gladys Mae Smith Sneed.

Roy worked and retired from Jackson County Wide Drainage District. Roy will be greatly missed by his daughters, sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother, and friends.

Roy is survived by his daughters, Debra Sneed Fikes and her husband Christopher, Carolyn Nesloney, and Jo Ann Hilgart and her husband Guy; sons, David Sneed and his wife Diana, William Sneed and his wife Connie; brother, Edgar Sneed; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents Roy is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann Wilson Sneed; son, Roy V. Sneed, Jr.; sisters, Lois Holloway, Cassie Lee, and Tommie Cole; and brother, James Sneed.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018, from 9:30 -11:00 A.M., with a Funeral Service to begin at 11:00 A.M., in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna. Burial to follow in the Red Bluff Cemetery of Lolita. Troy Quinn will be officiating.

Pallbearers will be William Sneed, Jr., Jason Sabblatura, David Sneed Jr., Christopher Fikes, Jr., Blake Hilgart, Stephen Nesloney, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers are all grandchildren.

Shirley Ann Wilson Sneed

Edna—Shirley Ann Wilson Sneed, 67, of Edna, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, in Victoria. She was born Nov. 23, 1941, in Bastrop County, to the late John Samuel Wilson Sr. and Helen Frances Miller Wilson. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by husband, Roy Sneed; daughters, Debbie Fikes, Jo Ann Hilgart, and Carolyn Nesloney, all of Edna; sons, David Lynn Sneed of Victoria and William Ray Sneed of La Grange; sisters, Dorothy Wihem of Leander, Barbara Tiedt of Austin, Judy Smith of Austin, and Lilly Marie Griffith of Smithville; brothers, Joe Wilson of Smithville, James Wilson of Smithville, Buddy Wilson of New Braunfels, Gary Wilson of San Antonio, and Frankie Wilson of Smithville; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Roy Sneed Jr.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a. m. with the funeral service to begin at 11 a. m. on Friday, June 26, 2009 at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dennis Pharris will officiate. Burial will be at Red Bluff Cemetery.

Edna—Marvin Snyder, 87, resident of an Edna rest home since last January, died Saturday at the home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Monday at Lolita Baptist Church, with the Rev. Raymond Quick officiating. Burial will be in Red Bluff Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruby Snyder of Lolita; a son, Donald of Edna; a daughter, Mrs. A. Young of Lolita; two brothers, Saul Snyder of Corpus Christi and Lee of Alpine, Tex.

Pallbearers will be John Young, Billy Young, Jimmy Young, Dennis Snyder, Randy Snyder, and Roy Tate.

Marvin D. Snyder

Ganado—Funeral services for Marvin D. Snyder, 48, formerly of Edna will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday from the Psencik Chapel, with the Rev. Raymond Quick officiating.

Burial will be in the Red Bluff Cemetery under direction of Psencik Funeral Home, with military rites by the Jackson County VFW Post.

Mr. Snyder was born Oct. 3, 1925, in Texas, and was an oilfield employee. He died Friday in a Houston hospital after a lengthy illness.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna Spree of Palacios; three sons, Dennis, Randy and Daryl, all of Point Comfort; a sister, Floy B. Young of Lolita; and two grandchildren.

Victoria—Clinton Eugene Solomon Sr., 84, of Victoria, passed away Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009. He was born June 7, 1925, in Burlington, to the late Lois Solomon and Geneva Jordan Solomon. He was a U. S. Marine Corps. WWII veteran. He was a heavy equipment operator with Alcoa Aluminum Corp. and a member of Telferner United Methodist Church and VFW Post in Lolita.

He is survived by his wife, LaVerne Holman Solomon of Victoria; daughter, Vickie Diane Tigner of Victoria; sons, Gene Solomon of Dallas and Alan Wayne Solomon of San Antonio; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Frances Price of Cameron, Shirley Fisher of Teague, Jeanne Williams of Reno, Nev., Dorothy Davidson of Gause, and Martha Krenik of Cameron; and brother, Dee Solomon of Cameron.

He was preceded I death by his parents; sister, Hazel Murff; and brother, Wilfred Solomon.

The funeral service will be at 10 a. m. today, Sept. 5, 2009 at Slavik Funeral Chapel in Edna. Interment will follow at Red Bluff Cemetery under VFW Post No. 8556.

Pallbearers will be VFW Post No. 8556.

Hugh Allan Spring

San Antonio--Hugh Allan Spring, 80 of San Antonio, formerly of Lolita, Texas was called into Glory on Monday, September 7, 2015. Hugh was born on September 26, 1934 in Luling, Texas to the late B E and Irby Baker Spring. Hugh was the youngest of six children.

Hugh is survived by his brother, Roger Spring of College Station, his sister; Hanna Holquin of San Antonio, his son: Kim and wife Debbie of Edna, his daughters: Melody and husband Steve Hofer of Morganhill, California, Robin and husband Preston Atkinson of San Antonio. He is also survived by their ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Mary Frances Elder Spring, his three brothers; Bruce, Donald, and Jerry.

Our Dad was well known and respected along the Gulf Coast for his Heavy Equipment Construction.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 10th, 2015 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Slavik Funeral Home in Edna, Texas. Funeral Service will be on Friday, September 11th, 2015 at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church of Edna. Interment will follow at Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita, Texas.

Frances D. Stern

San Antonio—Frances Deyton Stern, 63, of San Antonio, died Sunday, March 29, 1998.

She was born Sept. 17, 1934, in Weslaco, to the late Willard W. and Dora Gunter Deyton. She was a homemaker and was a member of Assembly of God.

Survivors: husband, William A. Stern; daughter, Cheryl Davis of San Antonio; sisters, Mereen Beals and Shereen Ashley, both of Lolita, and Essie Lewallen of San Antonio; brother, Harold Deyton of Lolita; and two grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: one sister, and two brothers.

Lucille Casey Stolhand

Lolita--Lucille Casey Stolhand, of Lolita, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the age of 90. She was born July 2, 1925, in Pyatt, Arkansas, to the late Melvin Leslie and Verna Lessie Casey.

Lucille was a school teacher and Librarian at Industrial High School for many years. She touched the lives of many people throughout. Lucille was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and true friend who will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her daughters, Connie Hare and her husband Don of Vanderbilt and Melva Buttkus and her husband Glenn of Washington; sister, Frances Casey Kerns of Montana; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Warren Stolhand; daughter, June Whitfield; sister, Audrey Stonecipher.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2015 from 5~7 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 13, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. in the Lolita United Methodist Church in Lolita. Reverend Danielle Knapp will be officiating. Burial to follow in the Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Don Hare, Geary Hare, Justin Machacek, Andrew Whitfield, John Gayle and Jerry Rozsypal.

David Gene Storz

Edna--David Gene Storz, 69 of Edna, embraced the open arms of his Lord August 2, 2014. He was born September 28, 1944 in Edna, TX to the late Eugene Andrew and Wilma Browning Storz. 

Mr. Storz was a retired Industrial Junior High School teacher and retired insurance agent from Texas Farm Bureau Insurance. He enjoyed retirement by reviving the BS Cattle Company and running the business on the same property where he was raised, working on his parents' dairy farm.

He is survived by his son David Andrew Storz and wife Jennifer, daughter Genna Storz Tucker and husband Andy, one grandson Josef Reichert Storz, brothers Bill Storz, Frank Storz and wife Martha, and Tony Storz, and sister-in-law Nona Storz. He is also survived by many loving family members, friends too numerous to count, and 3 granddogs: Arley, Ava, and Adler. He is preceded by his brother George and sister-in-law Joyce. 

Visitation will be held from 5 p. m. to 7 p. m. Monday, August 4, in Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will be Tuesday, August 5, at 10 a. m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Edna, Texas with Reverend Andrew Schroer officiating.
Burial to follow service in the Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita. 

Pallbearers will be Pat Browning, Mark Crull, Jerry Storz, Alex Gobellan, Kenneth Land, Bobby Koop, Chris Browning, Billy Storz and Malcolm Sumbera.

Mr. Robert Leslie Stowe

Edna—Funeral services for Robert Leslie Stowe, 74, of Edna will be held at 10 a. m. Monday at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Roland Shutz officiating.

Burial will be in the Red Bluff Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Mr. Stowe was born March 15, 1904 in Parker County, and came to this county in 1947. He was an independent lease operator before his retirement. Mr. Stowe died Saturday in a local hospital.

Surviving are his wife, Maggie of Edna; one daughter, Mrs. Dick Koop of Edna; three sisters, Mrs. Lora Berkley and Mrs. Ruby Gunn, both of Weatherford, and Mrs. Dessie Margot of Pasadena; and five grandchildren.

Leslie Rebecca Suhr

Leslie Rebecca Suhr, our beautiful daughter and friend was born October 2, 1971, in Houston, Texas. She left this world after a brief illness on October 2, 2009 in Conroe, Texas. She is preceded in death by her grandparents; Hilda and Robert McFeron and Billy and David Suhr; an uncle Wayne Suhr.
 

Leslie leaves behind her mother and step-father; Mary McFeron Wilson and Travis Wilson of Montgomery Texas; aunt and uncle, JoAnn and Melvin Baca of Wharton, Texas; cousin, Mark Baca of La Marque, Texas and daughter, Melissa; step-brother Coe Wilson and wife Leigh, their children Chase and Taylor; step-brother, Jay Wilson and wife Leigh, their children Ray and Travis; step-sister, Jan Miller and husband Steve, and daughter Rebecca, all of Houston, Texas. She also, leaves behind her father, William Dewey Suhr of Houston, Texas; aunt Shirley Suhr Gaskey of San Antonio, Texas, and cousins Jeannie, Bubba, Sherri, Deborah and Cline.

Leslie began school in Norcross, Georgia and graduated from Alief Hastings High School, Alief Texas. She attended both the University of Houston and Houston Community College.

Leslie was a caring and thoughtful person who enjoyed cooking with her mother and gardening. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was truly a beautiful person.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Montgomery, Texas. Interment will follow in the Red Bluff Cemetery, Ganado, Texas.

G. B. “Jerry” Sutton Sr.

Brazoria—G. B. “Jerry” Sutton Sr., 69, of Brazoria, passed away at Brazosport Regional Hospital, Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009 surrounded by his family. He was born March 11, 1940 to James and Ethel (Champagne) Sutton in Refugio. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Masons, Capitol Baptist Church, and worked for Dow Chemical for 34 years.

Funeral services will be held 10 a. m., Monday, Dec. 14, 2009 at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia with Pastor Duane Phy officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p. m. at Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita. Visitation will be held Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009 from 4 p. m. until 6 p. m., at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia.

Pallbearers will be Rowdy Lopez, Chuck Shelton, Deke Lopez, Gerry Sutton III, Joshua and Tyler Green.

Honorary pallbearers will be Benson Sutton Jr. and Jimmy Green.

Lolita—J. B. Sutton, 79, of Lolita died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 1994.

He was born May 27, 1917, in Poolville to the late Walter Benson Sutton and Nancy Elizabeth McDougal. He was a retired guager for Amoco; a member of Farm Bureau, First Assembly of God Church in Point Comfort and a missionary volunteer in Mexico.

Survivors: daughters, Joyce Giroir of Houma, La., Gail Wolfskill and Mary Bush, both of Lolita; sons, Steve Sutton of Inez and Gerald Benson Sutton of Lake Jackson; sister, Jo Russell of Austin; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his son, Robert James Sutton; sisters, Vera White and Marie Finch; and brothers, John Sutton and T. M. “Smokey” Sutton.

Services: 2 p. m. today, Slavik Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Gene Rice and the Rev. Kenyon Hamilton co-officiating.
