Doroteo M. Ramirez

BAY CITY--Doroteo "Ted" M. Ramirez, 79, of Bay City, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005.

He was born June 21, 1925, in Lockhart, to the late Doroteo R. and Martina Moreno Ramirez. He was a retired maintenance worker for Edna ISD and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna.

Survivors: sisters, Elisa Martinez of Edna and Maria Cruz Garza of Bay City; brothers, Tirso Ramirez, Manuel Ramirez, and Joe Ramirez, all of Edna; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: daughter, Georgia Ramirez Cruz; half sister, Jesusa Concha; and brothers, Frank Ramirez, Jacinto Ramirez, and Francisco Ramirez.

A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. tonight at Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Frank M. Ramirez

Edna—Frank M. Ramirez, 36, of Edna died Sept. 11 in San Antonio following a sudden illness.

A rosary will be held at Slavik Funeral Home chapel Wednesday evening with the time to be set.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Thursday at St. Agnes Catholic Church here with the Rev. Joe Hybner officiating. Burial will be in Edna Latin American Cemetery.

Mr. Ramirez was born Dec. 25, 1945, at Edna. He was a laborer.

Surviving are his wife, Doris, of Edna; three daughters, Judy Garcia and Cindy and Lisa Ramirez, all of Edna; two sons, Edward and Toby, both of Edna; two sisters, Elisa Martinez of Edna and Cruz Garza of Bay City; and five brothers, Tirso, Manuel, Jacinto, Joe and Doroteo Ramirez Jr., all of Edna.

Jacinto M. Ramirez

Edna—Jacinto M. Ramirez, 83, of Edna, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004.

He was born Sept. 30, 1920, in Austin, to Martina Moreno Ramirez of Texas and the late Doroteo Ramirez. He was a retired construction worker.

Survivors: daughters, Consuelo Vasquez of Edna and Ophelia R. Suniga of Pearland; sons, Ray Castro of Palestine; sisters, Elisa Martinez of Edna and Maria Cruz Garza of Bay City; brothers, Doroteo Ramirez Jr., of Houston, and Tirso Ramirez, Manuel Ramirez and Joe Ramirez Sr., all of Edna; 21 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: wife, Refugia Garza Ramirez.

A rosary will be recited 7 p. m. tonight at Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

Jose "Joe" Ramirez Sr.

EDNA - Jose "Joe" Ramirez Sr., 66, of Edna, died Friday, April 13, 2007. He was born July 27, 1940 to the late Donatro and Martina Moreno Ramirez. He was a lawn and landscaper.

He is survived by his wife, Susie Gonzales Ramirez; daughters, Linda Davis of Houston, Janie Ramirez and Mary Ramirez, both of Edna; sons, Wesley Ramirez, Ricky Ramirez and Mike Ramirez, all of Edna, Joe Ramirez of Lake Jackson, David Ramirez of Cuero, Robert Ramirez and Pete Ramirez, both of Edna; sisters, Alice Martinez of Edna and Cruz Garza of Bay City [Matagorda County, Texas]; brother, Manuel Ramirez of Edna; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank, Haciento, Tirso, Doroteo and Poncho Ramirez.

A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Sunday at Slavik Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Burial will follow at Edna Latin American Cemetery.

Leonardo P. Ramirez

Edna—Leonardo P. Ramirez, 84, of Edna, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1992, in Edna, following a lengthy illness.

She was born Feb. 21, 1908, in Devine, to the late Carlos and Luciana Guajardo Perez and married to the late Teodolo Ramirez in 1936. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. She was a former resident of Falcon, having moved to Edna in 1967.

Survivors: sister, Pascuala Anguiano of Victoria; and brothers Panfilo and Geronimo Perez of Edna and Pablo Pulido of Victoria.

Preceded in death by parents; and husband in 1967.

Rosary 7 p. m. Sunday at Slavik Funeral home chapel.

Services 10 a. m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating.

Manuel Ramirez

Manuel Ramirez, 78, of Edna, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2014. He was born in Cuero on Feb. 25, 1936, to the late Doroteo and Martina Moreno Ramirez, Sr.  
 

He was a track foreman for the railroad. 

He is survived by his wife, Georgie; daughter, Delores Garcia; son, Freddie Ramirez; sister, Maria Cruz Garza; and grandchildren, Lisa Ann Garcia and Jason Rene Garcia.

Preceded in death are his parents, a sister, Elisa Martinez; brothers, Joe, Doroteo, Jr., Jacinto, Frank Tirso and Frank "Little Frank" Ramirez.  

Visitation will be Thursday, May 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m., at the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be Friday, May 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Michael Petering officiating. Interment will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery.

Maria B. Ramirez

Edna—Maria Beatrice Ramirez, 82, of Edna died Friday, Nov. 17, 1995.

She was born April 3, 1913, in Olivia to the late Luis and Pabla Ybarra Ramirez. She married the late Leonel Barbosa in 1929 in Raymondville. The homemaker was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Survivor: daughter, Rosa Barbosa of Edna.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Sunday at Slavik Funeral Home.

Services will be held at 10 a. m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna, the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating.

Martina Ramirez

Edna—Martina Ramirez, 85, of Edna died at her residence Saturday.

She was born Aug. 22, 1900, in Mexico and had been a resident of Edna since 1936.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p. m. Sunday at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p. m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna with the Rev. Michael O’Shaugnessy officiating.

Burial will follow in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

She is survived by two daughters, Alice Martinez of Edna and Maria Cruz Garcia of Bay City; five sons, Jacinto Ramirez, Doroteo Ramirez Jr., Manuel Ramirez, Tirso Ramirez and Joe Ramirez, all of Edna; and 37 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Doroteo Ramirez, who died in March 1963, and a son, Frank Ramirez, who died in 1982.

Pallbearers will be Oscar Ramirez, Jessie Ramirez, Tony Ramirez, Frank Valleio, Gilbert Martinez and Larry Suniga.

Edna—Ramon Ramirez, 90, of Edna, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, in Victoria.

He was born May 4, 1916 to the late Antonio and Pomposa Rodriguez. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors: daughters, Anita Rodriguez and Gloria Gonzales, both of Edna, and Marie Fleming of Ganado; son, Jesse Rodriguez of Houston; sister, Gregoria Benavides of Bay City; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: wife, Janie Gonzales Rodriguez; sisters, Raphaela Morales, Petra Obregon, and Jesusa Rodriguez; and brother, Juan Rodriguez.

Edna—Timotea G. Ramirez, 61, of Edna, formerly of Kingsville, died Tuesday, Aug 25, 1992.

She was born Feb. 24, 1931, in Olmito to the late Guadalupe and Maria Del Refugio Cortez Garcia. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna.

Survivors: husband, Tirso Ramirez of Edna; daughters, Olga Vallejo and Sylvia Martinez, both of Edna; sons, Oscar G. Ramirez and Joel G. Ramirez, both from Edna; sisters, Otilia R Lopez of Los Fresnos, Agueda G. Hernandez of San Benito, Amelia Murillo of Phoenix Ariz., and Eloisa Hernandez of Kingsville; brother, Noe Garcia of Phoenix, Ariz.; and eight grandchildren.

Preceded in death by brother, Alberto Garcia.

Ignacio T. Rangel

Edna—Funeral services for Ignacio T. Rangel Sr., 51, of Edna will be held at 10 a. m. Tuesday at the St. Agnes Catholic Church here with the Rev. Joe Hubner officiating. A rosary will be recited at 6 p. m. Monday in the Slavik Chapel.

Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Mr. Rangel was born Feb. 2, 1927 in Rosenberg. He had been a rancher on the Seidel estate in this county. He died Sunday after a heart attack at his home near Edna.

Surviving are his wife, Lupe Rangel of Edna; a daughter, Frances of Edna; and three sons, Ignacio Jr., Isidro and Hilario, all of Edna.

Lupe Figirova Rangel

Edna—Lupe Figirova Rangel, 82, or Edna, passed away on March 8, 2007. She was born on July 7, 1924, in Edna, to the late Hilario Figirova and Antonia Cavazos Figirova.

She is survived by her daughter, Frances Rangel of Edna; sons, Ignacio F. Rangel and wife Eva of Edna, Isidro Rangel of Edna, and Hilario G. Rangel and wife Renee of Edna; two sisters, Frances Garza of Edna and Cornelia Menchaca of Victoria; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ignacio T. Rangel; parents; brothers, Joe Figirova Sr. and Gilbert Figirova and a sister Virginia Figirova.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 11 from 6 – 7 p. m., with a rosary to be recited at 7 p. m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services to be held on Monday, March 12 at 10:30 a. m. in the St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna, with Monsignor Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating. Interment to follow in the Edna Latin American Cemetery.

John Riojas

John “Chon” Riojas, 57, of Victoria, died Sunday in a San Antonio hospital following a sudden illness.

He was born Feb. 12, 1933, in Nixon, to the late Patricio and Rosa Esquival Riojas. Mr. Riojas was a paint contractor and was employed as a foreman with Olympic Construction in Victoria.

A prayer service will be held at 7 p. m. Tuesday at the Slavik Funeral Home in Edna.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Wednesday at the Templo Ebenezer Church with Pastor Oscar Serna officiating.

Burial will follow in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

The body will lie in state at the funeral home beginning at noon Monday.

Surviving are his wife, Mollie Montez Riojas of Victoria; a daughter, Linda Salinas of Arcola; a step-daughters, Betty Hernandez of Edna; three sons, Orlando Riojas of Arlington, Richard Riojas of Kenedy and Jimmy Riojas of Victoria; a step-son, Gilbert Andrada of Falfurrias; six sisters, Julia Esaquire, Rosa Bustamonte and Natalie Barron of Nixon, Mary DeLeon of LaMarque, and Lucia Marcas and Gloria Riojas of California; four brothers, Severo Riojas of Nixon, Johnny Riojas of Corpus Christi, Tommy Riojas of Abilene and Pat Riojas of Houston; and six grandchildren.

Ganado—Jose Riojas, 86, of Ganado, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001.

He was born March 25, 1915, in Victoria, to the late Juan and Jesusa Ricondo Riojas. He was a retired laborer for Southern Pacific Railroad after 34 years of service. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Ganado.

Survivors: wife, Maria Garcia Riojas; daughters, Anita Gutierrez of Corpus Christi, Dora Mendina of Rosenberg, Mary Riojas of Pasadena and Jane Salinas of Houston; sons, Arthur Riojas and Robert Riojas, both of Corpus Christi, and Raymond Riojas of Houston; sisters, Natalia Gallegos and Chonita Riojas, both of Ganado, Gregoria Covarrubias of Edna and Anita Rodriguez of Victoria; brother, Marcos Riojas of Houston; 27 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: sons, Joe Riojas Jr.; parents; brothers, Mike Riojas and Victor Riojas; and one grandson.

Maria Garcia Riojas

Ganado—Maria Garcia Riojas of Ganado passed away on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010 at the age of 82. She was born in Yorktown on March 9, 1927, to the late Juan Sr. and Julia C. Flores Garcia.

Maria is survived by her grandchildren, Belinda Postula of Houston, Alfred Gonzales of Orlando, Fla., Melinda Kelley of Wharton, Johnny Gonzales of Katy, Ronnie Gonzales of Longwood, Florida, and Judy Gleason of Missouri City; 15 great grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Clementine Gonzales; son, Thomas Lara; 11 sisters; and five brothers.

Visitation will be at 5 p. m., with a rosary to be recited at 6 p. m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at Oaklawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m., Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Assumption Catholic Church in Ganado. Burial will follow in the Edna Latin American Cemetery. Rev. Edna—Ventura “Ben” Rivera, 82, of Edna, died Sunday, June 8, 1997.

He was born July 20, 1914, in Cuero, to the late Ventura and Antonia Rodriguez Rivera. He was a retired custodian for Edna Independent School District, Edna Junior High School. Mr. Rivera was a Catholic.

Survivors: wife, Cirila Zamora Rivera; daughters, Bacilla Montalvo of Edna and Lupe Camacho of El Campo; sister, Mary Zamora of Eagle Lake; brothers, Manuel Rivera of Bay City and Jose Rivera; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: daughter, Eva Marie Hernandez.

Cristina Castro Robles

June 22, 1966 - February 04, 2016

Cristina Castro Robles, of Edna, Texas passed away Thursday, February 4, 2016, at the age of 49. She was born June 25, 1966, in Ganado, Texas, to Encarnacion Castro and the late Consuelo Ramirez Castro.

Cristina worked as a care giver for many years. She touched the lives of several people and had a trademark smile that would never be forgotten. She loved to spend time with her family and friends. Cristina was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her husband, Javier Robles; father, Encarnacion Castro; daughter, Crystal Robles; son, Javier Robles, Jr., sisters, Gloria Castro, Monica Guerra, and Martha Castro; brothers, Ray Castro, Gilbert Castro, Martin Castro, Roy Castro and wife Adela, and Adrian Castro and wife Trish; grandchildren, Madyson Tones, Savanah Robles and soon to be grand-daughter, Marleigh Robles, numerous nieces and nephews.

Cristina is preceded in death by her mother; grand-daughter, Vivianna Robles; and brother, Andy Ramirez.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2016 from 5~7 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be on Monday, February 8, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna. Reverend Michael Petering will be officiating. Burial to follow at Latin American Cemetery in Edna.

Adam B. Rodriguez Sr.

Edna—Adam B. Rodriguez Sr., 74, of Edna, died Monday, March 31, 2003.

He was born July 16, 1928, in Ganado, to the late Emilio D. Rodriguez and Angelita Banueloz. He was a lead man in cable manufacturing and a member of Baptist Mission Church.

Survivors: daughters, Mary O. Fidel B. Rodriquez

Edna—Fidel B. Rodriquez, 65, of Edna died at his residence Sunday afternoon following a sudden illness.

A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p. m. Tuesday at the Slavik Funeral Home chapel in Edna.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna with the Rev. Joseph Hybner, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow at Edna Latin American Cemetery.

Mr. Rodriguez, a resident of Jackson County since 1927, was born April 24, 1919 at Nordheim. He retired in 1981 from the Point Comfort and Northern Railroad. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Survivors include nine sisters, Maria R. Garcia, Eula R. Duron, Eva R. Cavasos, Elizabeth R. Serna, Rose Mary Figuerova, all of Edna, Corrine R. Arrizola of Victoria, Frances R. Ballin of Cuero, Cristina R. Martinez of Houston and Felicia R. Mainer of Jackson, Missouri; five brothers, Jesus, Domingo, Joe and Billy Rodriquez, all of Edna; and Adam Rodriquez of Rosenberg.

Pallbearers will be Hector Lopez, Rene Duron, Oscar R. Serna, Gerardo R. Serna, Ernest R. Garcia and Juan R. Rodriquez.

Lupe V. Rodriguez

Lupe V. Rodriguez, 71, passed away Friday Aug. 8, 2014.  He was born On March 23, 1943, in Ganado to the late Juan and Lucia Diaz Vasquez.

Lupe is survived by her husband Francisco Rodriguez; her daughters Marcia Gutierres and husband Ernest, Debbie Rodriguez, Victoria Gonzales and husband Carlos; a son, Robert Garcia and wife Elizabeth; brothers Ruben Vasquez and wife Lupe, Roy Vasquez and wife Cherri and Rudy Vasquez and wife Gloria; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded are her parents; son, James Garcia, Jr.; brothers, Juan, Jr., Matthew, and Terry Vasquez.

Visitation was Aug. 11 from 8:30 a.m. until services at 10:30 a.m., at the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel, 209 N. Allen St., Edna, with Rev. Andrew Schroer officiating. Interment will follow in the Edna Latin American Cemetery.

Pedro Rodriguez

Edna—Pedro “Pete” Rodriguez, 83, of Edna, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002.

He was born Oct. 22, 1918, in LaWard, to the late Braulio and Fufina Garza Rodriguez. He was a retired heavy equipment operator with Mercer Construction Company and Cursillo of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Survivors: wife, Nieves Farias Rodriguez; daughters, Cynthia Pena of Goliad and Nieves “Nonny” Limoges of Borger; sons, Pedro Rodriguez of Waukesha, Wis., Eddie Rodriguez and Jose Rodriguez, both of Edna, Braulio “Oscar” Rodriguez of Kenshaw, Wis. and Guadalupe “Walley” Rodriguez of Bay City; brother, Edward Rodriguez of Corpus Christi; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: son, Albert Rodriguez; and parents.

A rosary will be 8 p. m. tonight of Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 10 a. m. Friday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Msgr. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating.

Vanderbilt—Juan Romo Jr., 37, of Vanderbilt, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998.

He was born Dec. 20, 1960, in Ganado, to Virginia Lopez Romo of Vanderbilt and the late Juan Romo Sr. He was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church and was an altar server.

Survivors: mother; sisters, Linda Navarro of Cypress, Esmeralda Muniz of Lolita and Elida Nevarez of Vanderbilt.

Preceded in death by: brother, Raymond Longoria.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a. m. today at St. John Bosco Catholic Church of Vanderbilt.

A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p. m. today at the church.

Services will be 9 a. m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Jim Deaconson officiating.

Juan M. Romo Sr.

Vanderbilt—Juan M. Romo Sr., 89, of Vanderbilt, died Tuesday, May 13, 1997.

He was born Oct. 20, 1907, in New Braunfels, to the late Roche and Christina Marion Romo. He was retired from Missouri Pacific Railroad. He was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church.

Survivors: wife, Virginia Lopez Romo; daughters, Linda Navarro of Cypress, Esmeralda Muniz of Lolita and Elida Nevarez of Pasadena; son, Juan Romo Jr. of Vanderbilt; and five grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. today at St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Vanderbilt.

Services will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Jim Deaconson officiating.

Virginia Romo

Virginia Romo, (Momo Tina) 91 of Vanderbilt was born in Edna on Nov. 5, 1923 to Blas Lopez and Teresa Figirova Lopez.  She was called safely home on March 15, 2015.

Virginia had an unwavering faith in God, she was a member of St John Bosco Catholic Church.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Juan M. Romo, Sr.;  her sons Raymond Longoria and Juan Romo, Jr.; her brothers, Lupe, Jilian, Blastio, Daniel, and Eusebio Lopez; also her sisters, Porfiria Solis and Dora Barrios.

Virginia is survived by her three daughters, Linda Navarro, Elida Nevarez, and Esmeralda Muniz, also five grandchildren, Deboraha Muniz, Sylvester Ramos, Ricardo Muniz, Monica Navarro and Sonya Morales; brother Lalo Lopez; and sister Eugenia Ruiz.

The rosary will be held Tuesday, March 17 at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Edna, with Rev. Johnson Owusu-Boateng officiating. Interment will follow at Edna Latin American Cemetery.


Pallbearers will be her grandsons and son-in-laws.

Edna—Adrienne Michele Rosales, infant daughter of John and Michele Pena Rosales of Edna, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997.

Adrienne Michele was born May 27, 1997, in Houston. She was a Catholic.

Edna—Rosendo Rosales, 51, of Edna died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 1996.

He was born March 1, 1945, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to Jose Rosales of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and the late Joaquina Guerrero Rosales. He was a reclaim operator at Formosa Plastics and a member of Monte Calvario Pentecostal.

Martha Rucker

 

Martha Langowski Calvert Rucker, 81, of Ganado passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018. She was born on Jan. 10, 1937 in Houston, to Edward and Mary Langowski.

 

Martha is survived by her children, Don Calvert, Patricia Lewis, and Jeff Calvert.

 

There will be a funeral mass on Saturday, Aug. 4, beginning with a Rosary at 9:30 am and Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at Assumption Catholic Church with Father Kirby Hlavaty officiating. There will be a private burial in Denton, Texas at a later date.
