EDNA -- Funeral services for Louis Alfonse Orsak Sr., 67, of Edna will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna with the Rev. Joe Hybner officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens of Edna under direction of the Slavik Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Eliot, Shannon and Keith Orsak and Bryan and Justin Fiew. Mr. Orsak was born May 27, 1914, at Yoakum and had lived in Jackson County the past 27 years. He was a retired employee of Alcoa and died Monday in a Galveston hospital. He is survived by his wife, Lorena of Edna; a daughter, Charlene Fiew of Mission Valley; a son, Louis Orsak Jr. of Edna; seven sisters, Rosie Rollins of Houston, Mary Hrabovsky and Tilda Baros, both of Victoria, and Lee Baros, Albina Immenhauser, Annie Hrabovsky and Emma Baros, all of Yoakum; a brother, Charlie Orsak of Yoakum; and six grandchildren.

EDNA -- Lourena Hanna Orsak, 94, of Edna, passed away on Oct. 21, 2007. She was born on Jan. 30, 1913, in Yoakum, to the late Hubert and Paulene Busse Prause. Lourena is survived by her daughter, Charlene Fiew of Victoria; son, Louis Orsak Jr. of Edna; grandchildren, Eliot, Shannon and Keith Orsak, all of Edna, Brian Fiew of Victoria, Justin Fiew of Pendleton, Ind., and Brandy Land of Victoria. She is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis A. Orsak Sr.; and brothers, Ellman Prause, Gilbert Prause, Alvin Prause, and Werner Prause. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, with a rosary to be recited at 10 a.m., in the St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna. Interment will follow in the Memory Gardens of Edna Cemetery in Edna. The Rev. Michael Petering will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Eliot L. Orsak, Shannon L. Orsak, Keith L. Orsak, Brian A. Fiew, Justin S. Fiew, and Brandy L. Land. Arrangements are under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2221.

EDNA -- Frank "Bullplug" Clayze Ortolon, 88, of Edna died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 1996. He was born March 29, 1907, in Pleasant Hill, La., to the late Frank Sr., and Hattie Pitts Ortolon. He was a toolpusher with the oil and gas industry. Mr. Ortolon was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 230. Survivors: daughter, Glenda Cornelius of Kingsville; son, Roy Charles Ortolon of Katy; sisters, Hattie Adams of Longview and Verna Barnhart of Shreveport; three grandchildren and four great-grand- children. Preceded in death by: wife, Cecil Mildred Webb Ortolon on Aug. 14, 1994, and brothers, Larry Ortolon and Arthur Ortolon Services will be held 10 a.m. Fri- day at First Baptist Church in Edna, the Rev. Jim Gilbert officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 782-2152. EDNA -- Beatrice G. Orzabal, of Edna, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at the age 92. She was born on Nov. 8, 1916, in Edna, to the late Domingo and Trinidad Garcia. Beatrice is survived by her daughters, Beatrice Hernandez of Edna, Delphine Zimmerman of Ocean Side, Calif., and Lilly Orzabal of Houston; sons, Frank Orzabal Jr. of Houston and George Orzabal of Edna. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren. Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank M. Orzabal; and sister, Leonora Garcia Morales. Rosary recital will be Thursday, Nov. 20, at 6:30 p.m. followed by a time of visitation until 8 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m., in the St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens of Edna Cemetery. The Reverend Petering will be officiating. Pallbearers are Frank Zimmerman, Bruce Zimmerman, Christopher Orzabal, Leonard Minjarez, Robert Minjarez, Michael Orzabal and Dominic Hernandez. EDNA -- Frank Orzabal, 79, of Edna died Thursday, Aug. 24, 1995. He was born Jan. 29, 1916 in McFadden to the late Guadalupe and Ines Moya Orzabal. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He married the former Beatrice Garcia on Jan. 26, 1938. Mr. Orzabal was a retired pot repairman from Alcoa, having served 30 years. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. Survivors: wife; daughters, Beatrice Frances Hernandez and Lilly Orzabal, both of Edna and Delfina Zimmerman of Oceanview, Calif.; sons, George Orzabal and Frank Orzabal, both of Edna; sister, Anita Cuellar of Austin; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: one daughter; one son; twin sisters, Petra Cuellar and Manuela Morales; and brother, Encarnacion Orzabal. Rosary: 8 p.m. today, Slavik Funeral Home chapel. Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna, the Rev. Michael O'Shaughnessy officiating. Burial: Memory Gardens Cemetery, Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 782-2152. Addie Lucille Oswalt, 81, passed away January 27, 2001 in Corpus Christi. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jim, her son James Roger, and her parents Joe F. Rodgers and Catherine Grace Greenwood. Lucy was born in Edna, Texas, July 4, 1919 and other than a short time in the United States Virgin Islands, she lived her whole life in the Houston, Refugio and Corpus Christi area. She is survived by her daughters Judy Hodges of Katy, Sandy (Morris) Wilson of Corpus Christi, six beloved grandchildren, Elaine Wilson, Lance Wilson, James Hodges, Cindy Russo, Tracey Eddy and Suzanne Payne. She is also survived by her brother, Joe (Pat) Rodgers of Corpus Christi, nephew Joe A. Rodgers of Columbus, Georgia and 13 great grandchildren. Lucy was an avid golfer and belonged to several Ladies Associations and won many tournaments throughout the years. She will be remembered with love and affection by her family and friends for her generosity and wonderful sense of humor. Pallbearers will be her Grandsons. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Dr. Maria Blazo and the staff of Spohn South 3rd Floor and SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001 at Slavik Funeral Home chapel. Interment in Memory Gardens of Edna. Pallbearers will be her Grandsons.

EDNA - James Clifton Oswalt, 74, of Friendswood, died Saturday in a Friendswood nursing home following a long illness. A native of Gravette, Ark., he was born Nov. 7, 1914, to the late Lawrence F. and Laura Moody Oswalt. Mr. Oswalt had formerly resided in the Virgin Islands, and had lived in Friendswood for the past 61⁄2 years He had been employed as a maintenance supervisor for an oil refinery company until his retirement. Funeral arrangements are pending with Jackson County Funeral Service in Edna. Surviving are his wife, Lucille Oswalt of Friendswood; two daughters, Judy K. Hodges of Friendswood and Sandra Jo Wilson of Corpus Christi; a son, James Rodger Oswalt of Launa Beach, Calif.; a brother, Lawrence F. Oswalt Jr. of Riodosa, N.M.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Victoria Advocate, May 15, 1989 James C. Hugh Lawrence Ottley, 84, of Edna, passed away November 28, 2006 in Edna. He was born August 12, 1922 in Canandaigua, New York to the late Harvey and Mildred Jones Otteley. He graduated in 1939 from Geneva High School in Geneva, New York. He served his country during World War II as a P-51 fighter pilot serving in the European Theater of Operations with the 15th Air Force, 4th Fighter Squadron and 52nd Fighter Group. Following World War II he attended Texas A&M on the GI Bill as a member of the Class of 1950. Hugh was an accomplished architectural designer who designed many homes and other buildings in South Texas. He was also city manager for the City of Edna from 1970 until 1975. Hugh was one of the original shareholders of Mercer Construction Company where he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors, Emeritus. He was also a shareholder in Mercer Controls. Hugh was a longtime member of Edna Presbyterian Church where he served as Sunday school teacher, Deacon, Ruling Elder and was the chairman of the building committee for the current church building. He was a Member Emeritus of the Texas Institute of Building Design, of the American Institute of Building Design and former member of Edna Rotary Club. Hugh is survived by his wife of 27 years, Willie Mae Ottley of Edna, daughter Jane Luco and husband John of El Campo and daughter Ann Peterson and husband Ike of Edna; step-daughter Sharon Bena and husband Gene of El Campo; grandchildren Jenny Jurica and husband Kevin of Houston, Ben Peterson and wife Jeanne of San Antonio, Jill Peterson of San Antonio, and Matthew Bena of El Campo; great-grandson, Nolan Peterson of San Antonio. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Shirley Ottley Wheadon and his first wife, Laurel Don McClure Ottley. Visitation is 6-8 P.M. on Friday, December 1, 2006, at Oaklawn Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 2, 2006, at Edna Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Dr. Terry Bozarth and Rev. Danny Reeves officiating. A private family burial will follow. Pallbearers are his sons-in-law: John Luco, Ike Peterson, Gene Bena and grandsons: Ben Peterson, Matthew Bena and Kevin Jurica. Honorary Pallbearers are all shareholders and employees of Mercer Construction Company and Mercer Controls. EDNA -- Mrs. Laurel Don McClure Ottley, the wife of Edna City Manager Hugh L. Ottley died Wednesday in a Victoria hospital. Funeral services have been set for 2 p.m. Friday from the Edna Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Lloyd W. Nixon officiating. Burial will be in the Memory Gardens under direction of Slavik Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be J. T. Herin, Callaway Vance, L. M. Welch, Val Hotz, H. E. Moody and Harrison Stafford II. The family requests that in lieu of the usual remembrances, those who desire may make donations to the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Ottley was born March 23, 1922 in Edna. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the order of Eastern Star. Mr. and Mrs. Ottley were married in Edna on Sept. 12, 1945. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her mother, Mrs. Lucile McClure of Edna; and two daughters, Mrs. Jane Webster of Edna and Mrs. Ann Peterson of Victoria.

EDNA-Funeral services will be held Friday for Amos William Owens 66, who died Wednesday at his home at 607 West Division St. Mr. Owens was born April 13, 1903 in Vanderbilt and had been a resident of Jackson all his life, leaving only during the years 1942, 1944 when he served as a master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He retired in 1944. Rosary was recited at the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel Thursday night. Services will be held from St. Agnes Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Flannigan officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 9 a.m. until time of the service. Pallbearers will be Dan Gabrysch, Ed Hajek, Tony Gerdes, Adolph Novosad, Jack Holt and Mike Mitchell. Burial will be in Edna Cemetery under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home. Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Ollie Holloway of Edna.
