Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Lolita Baptist Church for Mrs. Mary Newport, 85, a Lolita resident since 1926. Rev. A. M. Averett and Rev. Frank Hollan officiated, and interment was in the Edna Cemetery. Pallbearers were announced as Calmer Carlton, Ray Revel Jr., D. J. Jordan, J. W. Fitzpatrick, Doc Moody, Sam Allen, Edward Klaus and A. Young. Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Newport passed away at 5:45 p. m. Saturday at her home in Lolita. She was born in Indiana and had lived in Wharton before moving to Lolita, where she was a member of the Baptist Church. She is survived by one son, Charlie of Lolita; three daughters, Mrs. Merle Fitzpatrick and Miss Flossy Newport; both of Lolita, and Mrs. Annie Hurt of Ganado: and also by three sisters and two brothers in Indiana.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 3 p. m. from the Lolita Baptist Church for Orville Mike Newport, 47, oil field worker, who died at his home last Friday at 11:30 a. m. Revs. Frank Hollan, T. D. Felts and Raymond Drew officiated and burial was in the Edna Cemetery under the direction of the Slavik Funeral Home. Pallbearers were: W. Martin, J. Edwards, Cly Hoskins, Ed Holmes, Uranius Deaton, Donald DeAtley, J. P. Allen and Maurice Grover. Mr. Newport was born May 8, 1905, at El Campo. Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Ray Revel and Mrs. D. J. Jordan, of Edna; a brother, Charlie Newport of Lolita; three sisters, Miss Flossie Newport and Mrs. Merl Fitzpatrick of Lolita and Mrs. Annie Hurt of Ganado, and one grandchild.

EDNA -- Funeral services for Jesse Lloyd Newton, 73, of Star Route, Edna, will be held at 3 pm. Sunday from the Jackson County Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Joe Frederick officiating. Burial will be in the Edna Cemetery under direction of Jackson County Funeral Service. Nephews will be pallbearers. Mr. Newton was born Aug. 14, 1900 at Mt. Pleasant, and was a retired oil field employee. He died Friday in an El Campo hospital. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Newton of Edna; four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Milstead and Mrs. Peggy Mayhew of Bay City, Mrs. Esther Miller of Dallas and Mrs. Eula Harvill of lowa Park; and three brothers, Otis of Kingsville, Harvey of Pelsa, Ark., and Melvin of Ras Tanura, Saudia Arabia.

EDNA- Mary Newton, 92, of Edna, died Friday, May 6, 2005. She was born Aug. 18, 1912, in Jackson County, to the late Valso A. and Alice May Hokett McDonald. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Survivors: sister, Eunice Hicks of Ganado; and brother, Don McDonald of Pawnee. Preceded in death by: husband, Lloyd Newton; sisters, Nellie Ellison and Polly Chivers. EDNA- Annie Lee Nickel, 80, of Edna died in a local hospital Monday, Nov. 4, 1991, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Nickel was born Oct. 12, 1911, in Jackson County to the late Wes and Bertha Hack Rogers. She, along with her husband, was engaged in farming and ranching most of her life. She was a self-employed rancher and a member of the First Baptist Church of Edna. Survivors: daughters, Rosalie Hengst of Victoria and Charlene Yendrey of Edna; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband, Charlie Nickel, in 1978; parents; sisters, Birdie Rubac and Janie Nickels; and brother, Vernie Rogers. Services 10 a.m. Thursday at Slavik Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Joe Wes Rubac officiating. Burial in Memory Gardens of Edna, Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 782-2152. EDNA -- Annie Lucille Nickel, 81, of Edna, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997. She was born June 11, 1916, in Victoria County to the late Peter Antone and Theresa Prukop Garvel. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. Survivors: husband, William Eugene Nickel; stepdaughter, Doris Rodriquez of Elgin; stepsons, Randy Nickel and Bobby Nickel, both of Elgin; sister, Rebecca "Ruby" Smiga of Victoria; and 12 grandchildren. Preceded in death by: stepsons, Charles William Nickel and Michael Anthony Nickel; sister, Clara Garvel Watts; and brothers, Herbert Garvel, Edmund Garvel, Leonard Garvel and Alois Garvel. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. today at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. today, at the church, the Rev. Benton Thurmond officiating. August L. Nickel, 59, a well known stock farmer of Navidad, Jackson County, died at a local hospital at 12:55 o'clock this morning. The body was conveyed to Edna this afternoon by the Goldman-Waters Undertaking Company for burial there Friday. Mr. Nickel was born in Clinton, Mo., May 7, 1882, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Nickel. He is survived by his wife and five children.

EDNA-Barbara Jean Nickel, 59, of Edna, died Friday, June 11, 2004. She was born Aug. 20, 1944, in Edna, to Earlene Howard Jennings of Victoria and the late Arthur Warren Jennings. She was retired from Regional Steel Products. Survivors: husband, Ray Nickel; daughters, Annette Cano of Edna and Cheri Hodon of Victoria; sister, Patsy Ricks of Victoria; and three grandchildren. EDNA -- Charles William Nickel, 77, of Edna died Tuesday in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Slavik Chapel with the Rev. Joe Wes Rubac officiating. Burial will be in Edna Memory Gardens under direction of Slavik Funeral Home. Mr. Nickel was born Oct. 15, 1901 at Flatonia, and was a retired Alcoa employee. Surviving are his wife, Annie Lee Nickel of Edna; two daughters, Rosalie Hengst of. Edna and Charlene Yendrey of Victoria; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. EDNA- Frank Eugene Nickel, 56, of Edna died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1992. He was born Oct. 29, 1936, in Jackson County to the late Woodrow Wilson and Janie Elizabeth Rogers Nickel. He retired in 1987 after 16 years of service with the city of Edna as street superintendent. Mr. Nickel was a member of the Lake Texana Trail Riders and the Church of Christ. Survivors: wife, Georgia Jackson Nickel; daughters, Sandy Bell and Sindy Nickel, both of Edna; sisters, Kathy Swain of Edna and Faye Macha and Betty Neuman, both of Lolita; brothers, James Nickel and Ray Nickel, both of Edna; and two grandchildren. Services: 2:30 p.m. Friday at Slavik Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Joe Wes Rubac officiating. Burial: Memory Gardens Cemetery, Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 782-2152. The funeral of Joseph Nickel prominent farmer of Jackson County, aged 68 years, whose death occurred yesterday morning at his home, was held this afternoon in Edna. The interment was made in the Edna Cemetery with Rev P. B. Feenes, of St. Mary's Catholic Church, of this city. officiating.

EDNA -- Funeral services for Maggie Lena Nickel, 90, of Edna will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Slavik Chapel. with Bishop Hugo Gerbermann officiating. Burial will be in Edna Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Tommy and Robert L Terry, Jimmy Rogers, and Ray and Frank Nickel and William Yendrey. Honorary pallbearers will be the other grandsons Mrs. Nickel was born May 19, 1887 in Nacogdoches, and had lived in Jackson County for 75 years. She died Sunday in a local rest home. Surviving are six daughters, Mabel May Rogers, Minnie Lee Yendrey and Maggie Lorene Terry, all of Edna, Mary Elizabeth Graham and Julie Rosie Keasler of Irving, and Annie Mae Howarth of San Antonio: two sons. Woodrow and Willie Nickel of Edna, a brother, Leonard Baliek of Kerrville; 35 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Ulysses Grant Nickel, 75, longtime Jackson County resident, were held Tuesday at 9:45 a. m. at the Slavik Chapel and at 10 a. m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with Rev. Stanley Petru officiating. Rosary was said Monday at 7:30 p. m. at the funeral home. Interment was in the Edna Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lester Rogers, Jimmie Rogers, Robert Louis Terry, Frank Nickel, Roy Nickel and Eugene L. Yendrey. Mr. Nickel was born Jan. 15, 1888 in Monet, Mo., but had lived in this county since he was 12 years old. He married the former Maggie Lena Blaliek in Yoakum in 1911, and was a retired farmer. He passed away Sept. 29 at his home here at 1309 Green.
He is
survived by his wife. Mrs. Maggie Nickel, and by the following sons
and daughters: Mabel Rogers, Minnie Lee Yendrey, Woodrow Wilson
Nickel, Maggie Lorena Terry and Willie Eugene Nickel, all of Edna:

EDNA -- William "Willie" Eugene Nickel, 73, of Edna, died Monday, June 12, 2000. He was born April 15, 1927, in Jackson County, to the late Ulysses S. Grant and Maggie L. Bielek Nickel. He was a retired potman at Alcoa Aluminum and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors: daughter, Doris Rodriguez of Elgin; sons, Randy Nickel and Bobby Nickel, both of Elgin; sisters, Lorene Terry, Mabel Rogers and Minnie Yendrey, all of Edna; Mary Graham of Grand Prairie and Annie May Howarth of Plano; and nine grandchildren. Preceded in death by: wife, Annie Lucille Garvel Nickel; sons, Mike Nickel and Charlie Nickel; parents; sister, Ginger Kessler; brother, Woodrow Nickel. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. tonight at Slavik Funeral Home chapel. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Saint Agnes Catholic Church of Edna, the Rev. Michael O'Shaughnessy officiating.
