Mrs. Annie McDonald

EDNA -- Mrs. Annie McDonald, 53, of LaSalle, died Monday at her residence.

Mrs. McDonald was born Feb 5. 1914, and was housekeeper for St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Vanderbilt. She was a member of St. Teresa Altar Society of LaSalle.

A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p. m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Friday at LaSalle Catholic Church, with the Rev. Stanley Petru officiating.

Burial will be in LaSalle Cemetery, under direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Surviving are her mother Mrs. Annie Kokes of LaSalle; two daughters, Mrs. Georgia Ann Clingman of Bay City and Mrs. Annie Marie Palmer of Yukon, Okla.; two sons, Luther McDonald Jr. of Lolita and Victor McDonald of Victoria; five sisters, Mrs. Agnes Vincik and Mrs. Emily Kusak of LaSalle, Mrs. Valesta White of Bloomington, Mrs. Frances Billings of Houston and Mrs. Mary Shijka of Michigan; three brothers Eddie Kokes of LaSalle, Frank Kokes of San Antonio and Joe Kokes of Michigan and 12 grand children.

Pallbearers will be Adolph Techa, Jerry Sembera, John Zacek, Adolph Elles, Joe Kusek, and Adolph Vincik.

Walton McDowell Rites Held in Edna At Methodist Church

Funeral services were held at First Methodist Church here Tuesday at 4 p. m. for Walton Edward McDowell, 23, who was found dead in his auto at his home at Andrews last weekend. He is believed to have been dead since July 20. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walton Me- Dowell, were vacationing at the time.

Rev.. M. P. Burton, pastor, officiated and burial was in Edna Cemetery under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Everard McDowell, Everard McDowell Jr., Sam A. May Jr., Jack Billups, Walter Davidson and Harry L. Storey

Young McDowell was born at Woodsboro June 3, 1937, a son of Walton and Eloise McDowell. He held a B. S. Degree from the University of Eastern New Mexico and at the time of his death was working on his master's degree at Texas Tech at Lubbock, majoring in psychology and business education. He was a member of Alpha Chi, the Wesley Foundation, A Capella Choir, Madrigals vocal, group and Business Club and the Psychology Club at Tech.

Survivors include his parents; a brother, Hugh, of Andrews, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene McDowell of Edna and Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Brem of Pasadena.

Mrs. Euna McFeron

Edna—Mrs. Eula [Euna] McFeron, a long time resident of Jackson County died of an apparent heart attack Thursday while visiting a daughter in Sinton.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p. m. in Sinton with graveside services set for 4:30 p. m. at the Edna Cemetery under the direction of the Slavik Funeral Home.

Mrs. McFeron was preceded in death by her husband, C. A. McFeron, in 1946.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Lonnie Dell Selby of Sinton, Mrs. Lucille Compton of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Mrs. Covey Walker of Palacios and several grandchildren.

Services Held for Gladys McGill, 55, Resident 10 Years

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at First Baptist Church here for Mrs. Gladys Pearl McGill, 55, of 502 S. Allen. Rev. Jack Moore, pastor, officiated, and interment was in Edna Cemetery.

Mrs. McGill was born Feb. 12, 1907 in Hope, Texas, and had lived in Jackson County the past 10 years. She belonged to the Baptist church. She had been ill since December of 1961, and passed away April 21 in the hospital at Ganado.

Mrs. McGill is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Yearwood of Edna; a daughter, Helen Joyce Spurgers of Edna; a son, Tommy Wayne McGill of Fort Stockton; four grandchildren; and these brothers and sisters, Roy and Carlos Yearwood of Edna, Ina Mae Taylor of Edna, Charles Yearwood of Columbus, Elroy Walton of Gonzales, Mrs. Birdie Brenham of League City, Mrs. Aline Reid of Duncan, Okla., and Letha Petersen of Palacios.

John Covey McKey

EDNA--John Covey McKey, 88, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007. A devoted family man and guitar player extraordinaire, he was known for his irrepressible sense of humor. He enjoyed life until the end, especially living with his beloved wife of 63 years, Helen, in their country home near El Toro.

Born on May 22, 1919, in Brown County, to the late Claud and Bessie McKey, John later moved with his family to Lavaca County, where he lived until joining the U.S. Navy in March 1942. He served on two ships: the USS Adhara and the USS Menard in the South Pacific.

While still in the Navy, he married Helen Jones in 1944. Following the end of the war and his discharge from the Navy, the couple lived at Aloe Field for a short time. In 1948, they moved to Telferner, where they lived for many years. They moved to El Toro in 1964.

John worked some 25 years for Alcoa Aluminum Company in Point Comfort. After retirement, he enjoyed singing and playing with several local bands and accompanied his friends at fiddle contests across the state. After Helen's retirement, he and Helen entertained frequently at nursing homes in Edna, Ganado, Victoria, and Yoakum. John also enjoyed playing dominos, fishing, and gardening. He was a longtime member of the Robison Street Church of Christ in Edna.

John is survived by his wife, Helen McKey; son, Doyle McKey and his wife Martine of Montpelier, France; and daughters, Nola McKey of Austin, Becky Braddock and her husband Walter of West Columbia, and Laura McKey of Edna. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kris Braddock and his wife Courtney, Erin Braddock, Clay Eads, Jennifer McKey, and Kaitie Braddock; and two great-grandchildren, Madelyn Braddock and Kathryn Braddock. Other survivors include his sisters-in-law, Authemia McKey, Mildred Tipton, Frankie Gerhard and her husband Paul Gerhard; brother-in-law, Cecil Jones and his wife Dorothy; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and numerous home healthcare aides.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Guy McKey and Dewey McKey; and sisters, Thelma Williams and Minnie Spittler.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Slavik Funeral Home in Edna.

The funeral will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Robison Street Church of Christ in Edna, with burial following at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna.

Pallbearers will be James Robinson, Walter Braddock, Terry Tipton, Robert Volkmer, Tommy Smith, and Ben Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.

Rites for Rev. Collis McKinney, Heart Victim, Largely Attended

Numerous grief-stricken friends and relatives Tuesday at 10 o'clock attended the final rites for Rev. Collis S. McKinney, 45, pastor of Allen Memorial Presbyterian Church of Edna, who died Sunday at about 5 a. m. at Mauritz Memorial-Jackson County Hospital He suffered a heart attack two days earlier.

Rev. Mac N. Turnage of Victoria and Rev. Leonard Sweeney of Port Lavaca officiated and burial was in Edna Cemetery.

Pallbearers were elders both the Edna church and the Presbyterian Church at Vanderbilt, of which he also was pastor. They included H. K Staples, Claudius Branch, W. W. Fenner, Brownson Malsch. L. K. Miller, E. F. Moss, C. L. Poole, S. A. Strane, Carver Good, Hugh Ottley and John T. Vance Jr. and J. B. Kolar, Eugene Kolar, J. A. Leissner, O R. Malone, Tom Rankin and Robert Woods..

Rev. McKinney was born at Greer, South Carolina, May 19. 1917, the son of Mr. and Mrs. B. B. McKinney. He came to Edna four years ago from El Paso after being called by the local Presbyterian church.

He attended the pubic schools in South Carolina and was graduated from Eastern New Mexico University at Ponta Less, New Mexico. He attended Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.

Rev McKinney was ordained to the ministry in 1946 by the El Paso Presbytery and served a pastorate at the Presbyterian Church at Seminole prior going to El Paso to be the organizing pastor of the University Presbyterian Church there.

Recognizing the need of a new church building in Edna, he helped launch a campaign for a new edifice and educational building here and died on the eve of seeing this ambition fulfilled. Architects have been employed, the preliminary designs have been made and almost all of the goal of 75 per cent of the estimated cost of the building has been subscribed.

Mr. McKinney was an active member of the Ministerial Alliance in Edna, and took part in many civic activities.

Survivors include his wife. Mrs. Mary Lou McKinney, two daughters, Charolette Blankin. and Alice Alexandra: his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. B. McKinney of South Carolina; a sister, Mrs. Alan Howes of Ann Arbor, Mich., and two brothers, Marshall E. McKinney of Greer S. C. and Wilton J. McKinney of Greenville, S. C.

Dave E. McLennan Jr.
Inez

Dave E. McLennan Jr., 82, of Inez, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006.

He was born Dec. 3, 1923, in Red Bluff, to the late D. E. McLennan Sr. and Rose Mae Foxell. He was a self-employed farmer and rancher and a Baptist.

Survivors: daughters, Sandy Twardowski of Ganado, Rosemary Hults of Edna, Elaine Smith of Victoria, Debbie McLennan and Sherri McAarrah, both of Inez; sons, James McLennan of Pearland and Robert McLennan of Edna; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: wife, Thelma Maurice McLennan and brother, Edmund Kenneth McLennan. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. tonight at Oaklawn Funeral Home chapel. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, Brother Danny Wilson officiating.

Burial will be at Memory Gardens of Edna. Oaklawn Funeral Home. Edna, 361-782-2221.

David McLennan Is Buried Today

Funeral services for David Eubanks McLennan, 68, of the Morales area were held Thursday at 9 a. m. from St. Agnes Catholic Church; Rosary was recited Wednesday at 7 p. m. at Slavik Funeral Home.

Burial was in the Edna Cemetery.

Mr. McLennan, a retired farmer, was born Dec. 11, 1895 in Marlin, Texas. He married the former Rosa Mae Foxell in 1914, and they had lived in this county the past six years.

He is survived by his wife, Rosa McLennan of Morales; two sons, David of Edna and Edwin Kenneth of Houston; three brothers, W. B. of San Antonio, M. N. of College Station and E. K. of Houston: two sisters, Mrs. Clara Foxell of Edna and Mrs. Florence West of Houston, and 10 grandchildren.

Rosa Mae McLennan

EDNA--Rosa Mae McLennan, 91, of Edna, died Tuesday in an Edna hospital following a long illness.

She was born May 23, 1893, in Hochheim to the late George and Barbara Price Foxell.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Russell Moon officiating.

Burial will follow in Memory Gar- dens Cemetery in Edna under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home. Surviving are two sons, Dave Eubanks McLennan Jr. of Edna and Edmond Kenneth McLennan of Rio Grande City; ten grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave Eubanks Sr. on March 25, 1964.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth, James, Robert and Johnny McLennan, Steve Twardowski and Donnie Parker.

Thelma McLennan

EDNA--Thelma Maurice McLennan, 60, of Edna died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday at her residence after a lengthy illness.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Slavik Funeral Home in Edna.

Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna, with the Rev. Michael O'Shaughnessy officiating.

Burial will be in Memory Gardens of Edna, under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Born Nov. 19, 1929, in Collinsville, Ala., Mrs. McLennan had been a nurse and worked at the Edna Hospital from 1972 to 1980 and at the Jackson County Health Department from 1983 to 1989. A resident of Edna and Jackson County for 35 years, she was the daughter of William Crownover and Myra Lucille Bell, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by five daughters, Sandy Twardowski of Magnolia, Rosemary Hults of Aransas Pass, Elaine Smith of Victoria, Debbie Howell of Navasota and Sherri McGarrah of Marathon, Fla.; two sons, James McLennan and Robert McLennan, both of Edna; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

In lieu of usual remembrances, the family suggests contributions to a memorial scholarship fund established at First Bank in Edna for Edna High School students who plan to enter the nursing profession.

Pallbearers will be Steve Twardowski, Richard Hults, George Howell, James B. Smith, Thomas Woods and Mickie McLennan.

Honorary pallbearers will be David and Chuck Parker, Michael and Anthony Kutchka, Johnny Twardowski, James McLennan Jr., Travis McGarrah, Mrark Humphrey, N. J. Gilbeaux and Walter L. Utz.

Aulvis U. McWhorter
Edna

Aulvis "Jack" Udale McWhorter, 71, of Edna died Friday, Jan. 12, 1996.

He was born Jan. 4, 1924, in Hunt County to the late Esta Ezra and Annie May Cannon McWhorter. He married the former Donnaline Davenport on March 15, 1968, in Nueva Laredo, Mexico. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and was in commercial construction. Mr. McWhorter was a Baptist.

Survivors: daughters, Frieda Olsovsky of Edna and Jan Sullivan of Denton; son, Troy McWhorter of Bakersfield, Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Preceded in death by: wife on Nov. 1, 1992.

There will be no public visitation or registration.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Memory Gardens Cemetery, the Rev. Jim Gilbert officiating.

Donnaline McWhorter

Edna--Donnaline McWhorter, 62, of Rockport, formerly of Edna, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1992.

She was born July 25, 1930 in Uvalde to the late Calvin Lyle and Martha M. Smith Davenport and was a member of the Church of Christ. A homemaker, Mrs. McWhorter married her husband, Aulvis, on March 15, 1968 in Old Laredo, Mexico.

Survivors: Husband, Aulvis U. McWhorter; daughters, Martha Whurl of Rockport, Frieda Powers of Edna and Edna J. Sullivan of Benton; son, Roy Leon Routh of Uvalde; sisters, Leona Henry of Huntsville, Laura Lee Silvils of Uvalde and Elizabeth McFarland of The Dallas, OP.; brother, Calvin Davenport of Reagan Wells; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
