Peggy Inez Frankum Murff

July 02, 1947 - March 09, 2021

Peggy Inez Frankum Murff, of Edna, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at the age of 73. She was born in Freeport, Texas on July 2, 1947, to the late Samuel Henry Frankum and Nancy Marie Cox Frankum.

Peggy was born the seventh child in the seventh month of the year of ’47. She liked to tease that since the number seven means perfection, Mama and Daddy finally got the perfect child, so they didn’t need any more. And of course, she was in the eyes of her family.  Since she was the baby of her family as well as the baby of her paternal twenty-one cousins, she was often referred to as ‘the caboose’.

In 2006, Peggy’s oldest brother, Dean wrote a poem about Mama’s five little boys and two little girls, with a little humorous description of each of the seven children. This is an excerpt about Peggy: ‘In nineteen forty- seven Mama had another child; A little girl named Peggy, whose manner is so mild. Now Peggy does not seem to mind, and knows she can’t get loose, From the very cold, hard fact that she is our caboose’.

Peggy was shy and her manner was indeed mild, throughout her life, always content, whether working or playing.   As she grew, her ‘likes’, gifts and talents began to develop and mature. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, drawing, and learning to play the piano. Peggy’s natural musical talents developed quickly and beautifully.  How she loved to sing, and oh how everyone loved to hear her sing, at home and at church. She would sing with parents, brothers, nieces, and nephews, and later with her husband and children. Among one of Peggy’s many most requested songs was ‘I’m Bound For That City’ that she and her brother Dean sang together.

Peggy made sure God got the glory her for musical gifts and talents. She didn’t realize the extent God was preparing her to become a pastor’s wife, and to be a greater blessing than she ever knew.

Peggy loved being a Christian and going to church. Her love for all children, including her nieces and nephews, was evident in all her actions. Peggy rarely showed up to church without several children in her car. She was consistent in her faith in church and out, always ready to be a help to anyone in need.

Between Peggy’s graduation from high school, and her marriage eight years later, she worked for a while at what is now known as Texas-New Mexico Power. Then worked at a local bank in West Columbia.  At home, at church, at work, Peggy maintained a spirit of excellence and integrity in every aspect of her life, in all the ups and downs of circumstances.

As time passed, that same Christ-like love and determination to be all God wanted her to be, rolled over and prospered in Peggy’s marriage and parenthood, as is apparent in her husband, children, grandchildren, and all her ‘adopted’ children. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Peggy is survived by her loving husband of 47 years and 9 months, Pastor David Murff; son, Jason Murff (Shaye); daughter, Rachel Murff Fuller (Keith); grandsons, Joel Fuller and Philip Murff; granddaughters, Regan Fuller and Amber Murff; brothers, Dean Frankum (Charlene), Edward Frankum, Sr., and Bobby Frankum (Wanda); sister, Karen Frankum Ryman; bonus grandkids, Jeremy and Matthew Damborsky; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Norman Frankum (Neta Keith Frankum), Kenneth Frankum, Sr. (Barbara Green Frankum); sister-in-law, Vivian Kirkpatrick Frankum; sister-in-law, Joan Bownds Frankum; brother-in-law, Russell Ryman, and nephew Dale Frankum.

Pallbearers are Jeff Kisiah; Geno Eschenburg; Blake Eschenburg; Matthew Damborsky; Jeremy Damborsky; Danny Carlock.

Honorary pallbearers are Peggy’s grandchildren, Joel Fuller, Regan Fuller, Philip Murff, and Amber Murff.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 15, 2021, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with a Celebration of Life Service to begin at 11:00 am, all at the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna, Texas. Interment to follow at 3:00 pm in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in Peggy’s name, may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
