He was owner of the Lancaster Sales Company, leasing contractors, and was a member of the Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. T. H. McCleary, both of Houston; three sons, Alden Lancaster of Corpus Christi, William M. Lancaster of Houston, and Dr. York Lancaster of San Marcos, and three brothers, Lewis K. Lancaster and Lifford W. Ashes to be placed in Forest Park Mausoleum.—The Houston…

The above brief mention of the death of Moore Lancaster of Houston, a former well known and popular citizen of Ganado, will be read with deep regret by many Ganado and Edna citizens, who knew him as a young man. Friends here were not aware of the fact that he had not been enjoying good health of late, hence the news of his passing was a shock to them.

Moore Lancaster was the oldest child of the late Dr. and Mrs. W. H. Lancaster, prominent and long-time residents of Ganado. He was born at Lockhart, but moved to Ganado with his parents and other members of his family more than forty years ago. While a resident of Ganado, he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Lee York, a native of Jackson County and a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Shube York, esteemed pioneer residents of this section. Soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster moved to Houston where he entered business and where they reared their children.

While we had not had the privilege of meeting our boyhood friend for more than thirty years, we remember him as a jovial, friendly, upstanding, clean-living young man; one who always stood for the higher and nobler things that really made life worth while. Moore Lancaster was a likable man and naturally enjoyed a wide circle of friends who were grieved to learn of his passing.

The Herald joins the other friends of the bereaved ones in extending heartfelt sympathy.

Patsy Merle Siecko Lewis, 80, of Sugar Land, Texas passed away peacefully on December, 31, 2022, in Boerne, Texas.

She was born July 3, 1942 in Hallettsville, Texas to Johnnie August Siecko and Mary Woytek Siecko and was raised on the family’s farm outside of Edna, Texas. She graduated from Edna High School in 1960, then moved to Sugar Land, Texas where she attended Zorn Business School in Houston. It was there, where she was introduced to the love of her life--Tillman Roy Lewis, Jr. and they were married on December 14, 1962.

In 1961, she went to work for Sugar Land Industries, which was eventually merged with Imperial Sugar Company. Here, she served in various capacities for over 47 years, and retired as the Corporate Payables Manager in 2008. In retirement, she took on various projects, including remodeling her house and caring for family members and friends in need.

She loved to travel to the San Antonio area to visit her son’s family where she spent time spoiling the grandkids and going to their extracurricular events. She would frequently vacation with them and enjoyed the many adventures that they took. She loved to cook, especially for family. Her Martha Washington and divinity candies were out of this world good. It was always a running joke that she was trying to kill us with food but it was her way of showing her love. You never went hungry at her house, or lost any weight.

Most importantly, she loved and served the Lord. After moving to Sugar Land in 1960 she joined the First Baptist Church of Sugar Land (now Bridge Fellowship) and was the longest standing member of the congregation. She was a person of few words, but she always seemed to have the right words for any occasion. Through her love of Christ she made an indelible mark on many, and her love and guidance will never be forgotten.

Patsy is survived by her son Mark Anthony Lewis and his wife Lisa, grandchildren Hopelyn Lewis and Reagan Lewis, her siblings and their spouses Gary Siecko, Melvin Siecko (Robbie), Barbara Siecko James (John), Lynn Siecko (Donna), nieces and nephews Chris Siecko, Jason Siecko, Amy Siecko Allen, Shane Siecko, Shaye Siecko Morales, Bryce Siecko, and Jordyn SIecko Speights, her uncle Fred Siecko (Nelda) and numerous great nieces, great nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors, and co-workers.

She is predeceased by her parents Johnnie Siecko and Mary Siecko, husband Tillman Roy Lewis, Jr., brother Glenn David Siecko, and her puppy Rufus.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 14, 2023 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.

Mrs. Alma Linnartz

Mrs. Rud Linnartz.  Mrs. Alma Linnartz, 71, of 1819 West McKinney, died at 9 a.m. Friday in Galveston.  She was the widow of the late Rudolph Linnartz of Edna and Schulenburg.  She had lived in Houston 14 years.  She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Dan D. Heaton and Miss Alma Jo Linnartz, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Sladek, all of Houston.  Funeral services at 10 o’clock Sunday at the Geo. H. Lewis & Co., with Rev. E.M. Munroe officiating.  The body was sent to Schulenburg for burial there at 2:30 p.m. - Houston Chronicle.

The mention of the death of Mrs. Rud. Linnartz, a former well known resident of Edna, will be read with deep regret by many Edna people.  The late Mr. Mrs. Linnartz and daughters moved to Edna many years ago at which time Mr. Linnartz and the late Mr. L.E. Ward bought the Edna Light and Ice Plant.  When they sold out to the Central Power and Light Company, Mr. Linnartz continued as manager of the plant in Edna for several years, later he was transferred to Schulenburg.  The daughters, Misses Alma and Irma, graduated from the local school while the family resided here, and they have a host of friends among our people whom the Herald joins in extending sympathy in the loss of their mother.

Mrs. Linquist was a faithful and consistent Christian, a member of the Swedish Lutheran church, and was fully prepared to meet her Savior face to face. She was a most devoted and loving wife and mother, ever doing her duty and more than her duty in the family circle; was ever cheerful, hopeful and helpful. That she was loved and honored by her neighbors was evidenced by the fact that almost the entire population of the neighborhood came to pay the tributes of their love and esteem.

Mrs. Linquist was the mother of fourteen children, two of whom preceded her to the Great Beyond. Three, Albert, Roy and Mae are still at home, the others being widely scattered, one in Canada, one in Montana, one in Iowa, one in North Dakota, one in Wisconsin and the others in Minnesota.

While Mrs. Linquist had not been very strong for years, it was only very recently that her condition was considered at all serious. She was taken to Bay City Friday when an operation was performed, but all loving hands and hearts and medical skill could do availed not, and she quietly went to sleep Monday. The remains, accompanied by husband and daughter, were brought to Palacios and interment made in the Palacios cemetery. Rev. Shepherd, of the Presbyterian church offering words of hope and comfort to the bereaved family and sorrowing friends.

Football Injury Fatal For PHS Athlete Chris Loff

Seventeen-year-old Christopher Arvid Loff, a senior at Palacios High School, died Saturday afternoon at Hermann Hospital in Houston after suffering a brain hemorrhage during Friday’s varsity football game in Sweeny.

Loff, who was a starting defensive cornerback and reserve quarterback for the Sharks, collapsed on the sideline early in the second half, and was initially taken for emergency treatment to Sweeny Community Hospital. He was then lifeflighted to Hermann Hospital in severe condition.

The Palacios athlete was placed on life support systems in the early morning in an effort to sustain vital signs. He died at approximately 2:30 p. m. Saturday. His organs were donated for transplants.

Palacios ISD superintendent Bill Reaves said that according to doctors at Hermann Hospital, the cause of death was due to a brain hemorrhage involving two blood vessels. Although Loff had suffered a head injury last season, Reaves said that doctors indicated that Friday’s hemorrhaging was apparently not related to any previous injury.

Reaves, who had been at Friday’s game had gone to Hermann Hospital when the Palacios youth was lifeflighted, said he had remained in constant contact with both the physicians and the youth’s family. He said he had requested that information to the press concerning the death be released through his office to avoid the emotional stress on students, teachers and the youth’s family.

“We don’t know how or when it (the injury) occurred, we just don’t know that for sure,” Reaves commented. He said that the Shark coaches had viewed Friday’s game films several times and were unable to see any play where Loff may have been injured. Coaches at Sweeny High School were also unable to detect any signs of any injury in their game film

Reaves said that based on information he had received from coaches and others at the scene, Loff had come off the field shortly after the start of the third quarter and complained of extreme headaches. Reaves said the youth then collapsed on the sidelines. Although he was conscious briefly, the superintendent said Loff had fallen unconscious by the time emergency medical crews crossed the field.

Loff was then taken across the field on a stretcher and rushed by ambulance to the Sweeny hospital. Reaves said that initial reports from the Sweeny hospital indicted that the youth had suffered a severe spinal cord injury, but those reports proved to be incorrect.

He was then life flighted to Hermann Hospital were doctors told family and school officials that Loff had suffered a brain hemorrhage. He was placed on life support systems in the intensive care unit.

The 17-year-old senior had received a head injury last season. Reaves, however said Hermann doctors told school coaches and Loff’s family that there was apparently no relationship between the two injuries. Reaves said he has no information on the autopsy performed.

Because of his previous injury, Reaves said, “everyone was very cautious about his playing this year.” The youth was advised by his family and school officials to discontinue football after being sidelined for most of last season after having received a concussion. According to Reaves, Loff was adamant about playing this year and was allowed to do so after obtaining a doctor’s release.

Loff had played football since junior high school and also participated in high school baseball earlier in the year.

James R. “Jimmy” Love went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 11, 2021. Jimmy was born in Springfield, Illinois on April 5, 1952.

He is preceded in death by his father, James Richard Love of Edna, his mother Joyce Williams, and brothers Robert L. (Bobby) Love and Larry W. Love.

Jimmy was best known as “Daddy” and “Pawpaw,” a humble man, content with life just as he lived. He always worked hard and provided for his family. He loved with all his heart and would never hesitate to give if someone had a need. He was a very genuine person, and if you had the privilege to meet him or know him, you loved him. He enjoyed being outside, fishing, riding ATV’s and spending quality time with his family. We rejoice because when he entered Heaven, he was met with an infinite amount of love, even more than he had here on Earth, and rather than say goodbye, we say, “see you soon!”

A private service and celebration of life will be held by his family on Friday, November 26.
