Edna—Berilla Lane, 87, of Edna died Saturday, May 13, 1995. She was born July 10, 1995, in Edna to the late Robert Dawson and Annie Boston. She was a retired cook and a member of Scruggs United Methodist Church. Survivors: sisters, Adeline Johnson of Victoria and Angeline Ware of Edna; brother, Albert Ware Jr. of Corpus Christi; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by son, Robert Reed Jr. Visitation: noon – 8 p. m. Wednesday, Scruggs United Methodist Church, the Rev. Lawrence Washington officiating. Edna—Funeral services for Lee Lane, 76, of Edna will be held at 2 p. m. Friday from the Peabody Street Church of Christ, with O. S. Scranton officiating. Burial will be in the Sayles Cemetery under direction of the Cook Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be U. J. Collier, Walter Lane, Sammy Callis, Major Dennis, Ralph Cormier and Garfield Fisher. Honorary pallbearers will be Elijah Diggs, Loyal Stafford, Ralph Robinson, Bishop Gibson, A. B. Clay Sr. and D. J. Jordan. Mr. Lane was born Sept. 20, 1899 in Jackson County, and was a retired employee of a lumber firm. He died Tuesday [October 7, 1975] in a Bryan hospital. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Rose Lane of Edna; seven daughters, Mrs. Irva Fisher of Edna, Mrs. Lepetta Collier of Dallas, Mrs. Callie Turner of Bryan, Mrs. Minnie Cormier of Goliad, Miss Carlen Lane of Houston, and Mrs. Ola Mopkins and Mrs. Ora Tyler, both of Detroit Mich.; three sons, Lee Lane Jr. and Wayman, both of Fort Worth and Roger of Edna; two sisters, and two brothers; 26 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Marcelo Lara, 52, of Victoria, died Wednesday in a Victoria hospital. He was born Jan. 16, 1928 in Victoria, and was employed by Brown & Root Co. before becoming ill. Victoria—Sophie Nava Lara, 87, of Victoria, died Saturday, July 21, 2007. She was born June 23, 1920, in Edna, to the late Isabel Uresti and Jesus Nava. She was a homemaker and a Catholic. She is survived by her daughters, Gloria Garza, Diola “Dee” Zamora, and Sylvia Fuentes, all of Victoria; son, Enocencio “Sam” Sanchez of Victoria; sisters, Esther Valdez and Dale Gromer, both of Victoria; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Sostenes Sanchez and Marcelino Lara; sisters, Maggie De La Garza and Ann Nava; three brothers, Jesse Nava, Dan Nava, and Morris Nava; and grandchildren, Vanessa Jasso Sanchez and Steven Villarreal Sanchez. Edna—Funeral services for Phil Larry of Houston will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday from the Peabody Church of Christ in Edna, with O. S. Scranton officiating. Burial will be in the Sayles Cemetery near Edna. Johnson Funeral Home of Houston is in charge of arrangements, assisted here by the Cook Funeral Home. Mr. Larry was a native of Jackson County, but had lived several years in Houston. He died in the hospital there Wednesday after a lingering illness. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Edwina Larry of Houston; his mother, Mrs. Delia Gibson of Edna; three daughters, Brenda, Debra and Shawnee, all of Houston; one son, Phil Jr. of Houston, and two sisters and six brothers.

John Gordon Laughter, Jr., passed away on May 31, 2017. He was
born on Dec. 18, 1919, in Jackson County to the late John Gordon
Laughter, Sr. and wife Carrie Kone Fisher Laughter, both
descendants of pioneer Texan settlers.
He was a member of the Winthrop Society; his forbearers having
come to Massachusetts Bay Colony with Lord Winthrop in 1630.

Edna—Desiderio “Lelo” Leal, 77, of Edna, died Tuesday in a Victoria hospital. A retired businessman and native of Nixon, he was born Feb. 11, 1911, to the late Refugio and Rosa Alvarez Leal. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Thursday at the St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating. Burial will follow the services in Edna Latin American Cemetery under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home. Mrs. Lewis was fatally injured Friday, April 24, when she was crushed under her car as it rolled into the San Antonio River where she and her family were fishing. Edna—Funeral services for Blasito F. Lopez, 45, of Bryan will be held here at 10:30 a. m. Wednesday at the St. Agnes Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited at 8 p. m. Tuesday at the Slavik Funeral Chapel. A Bryan police spokesman reported Lopez was found shot in his lounge, the Mi-Bestina, Sunday night. They said the case is still under investigation. Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under direction of Slavik’s. The floral committee will include Elida and Esmaralda Romo, and Emily and Lora Lopez. Mr. Lopez was born Sept. 5, 1931 in Jackson County, and had lived out of the county the past 25 years. He died Monday in Bryan. Elizabeth Cosper Lopez, of Edna, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Friday morning, March 9, 2018, at the age of 80. She was born on Nov. 11, 1937, in El Toro, Texas to the late Floyd “Dick” and Verby Callaway Cosper. Elizabeth was a member of the First Baptist Church and longtime member of VFW Auxiliary. She retired from Jackson Electric Co-op of Edna Texas after 41 years of service. Elizabeth was a loving mother, sister, sister-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and very dear friend who will be greatly missed. Elizabeth is survived by her loving sons, Mark (Dolly) Lopez and Mike (Debbie) Lopez; brother, John (Diana) Cosper; sister-in-law, Jean Cosper; seven grandchildren, Samantha (Tyler) Coldwell, Stacy (Brandon) Tomas, Kara (Derek) Broussard, Kelsi (Cody) Coldewey, Kelsey (Jeffrey) Glover, Jamye (Casey) Muegge, and Jessica (Bobby) Doelitsch; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was a homemaker and had resided in Jackson County for 69 years. Surviving are four daughters, Virginia Romo and Dora Barrios, both of Vanderbilt, Eugenia L. Ruiz of Eagle Lake and Porfiria Solia of El Campo; four sons, Julian Lopez of San Jose, Calif., Daniel Lopez of Port Lavaca, Eusebio Lopez of Bay City, and Lalo Lopez of El Campo; a sister, Serapia Garza of Victoria; 34 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-greta-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Blas Lopez; and two sons, Lupe and Blasito Lopez.

Mrs. Margarett Lott, 66, of Placedo, died at 4 a. m. Saturday in a local hospital following a year's illness. A resident of Victoria County for five years, Mrs. Lott was born April 15, 1902, in Edna. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Edna with the Rev. Denkins officiating. Burial will be in Sayles Cemetery near Edna under the direction of Lytle Funeral Home. Surviving are her husband, William Lott of Placedo; a daughter, Mrs. Emma Lee Nick of San Mateo, Calif.; a son, Levell Jackson of Bloomington; four sisters, three brothers, one grandchild, four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Edna—Funeral services for William E. Lott, 86, of Edna will be held at 1 p. m. Saturday at the Cook-Butler Chapel in Edna with Elder Bill Hasdoff officiating. Burial will be in the Sayles Cemetery near Edna under direction of the Cook-Butler Funeral Home of Edna. Pallbearers will be James and Herman Green, Arnold, Andrew and Raymond Callis and James Ray Caesar. Mr. Lott was born May 22, 1893, in Goliad, and was a laborer before his retirement. He died Monday in a Victoria rest home. Surviving are two daughters, Loxie Lee Lott of Houston and Eva L. Smith of Edna; a son, F. D. Thurmond Lott of Houston; stepdaughter, Emma Lee Nick of San Mateo, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Patsy Lueckemeyer, 76, of Edna passed away on March 30, 2018, she was born on May 20, 1941 to Gilford T. Sr. and Alice Koop Roberson. Patsy is survived by her daughter Lisa Seger and husband Vincent, son Lynn Lueckemeyer and wife Kelly, five grandchildren, Travis, Kris, Aaron, Ethan, and Ian and one brother, Gilford T. Roberson Jr. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Rabon, and brother Roy Harvey Roberson. There was a visitation on April 2, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Andrew Schroer officiating. Interment followed at Red Bluff Cemetery. Edna—Funeral services for Clemencia Lugo, 32, of Edna will be held at 10 a. m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Jim Coindreau officiating. A rosary will be recited at 8 p. m. Sunday at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery. Miss Lugo was born Feb. 19, 1944 in Edna. She died Friday in Austin after a long illness. Surviving are her mother, Beatrice Calvario of Edna; four sisters, Janie Helen and Mary Sally Lugo of Edna and Rosie Escamia and Margaret Escamia of Edna; and five brothers, Felix of Ohio, Conception Jr. and Nicholas of San Antonio and John and Joe of Edna.

San Antonio—Concepcion Lugo Jr., 47, of San Antonio, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998. He was born June 13, 1951, in Edna, to the late Concepcion Sr., and Beatrice Garza Lugo. He was a meter technician for Bexar Metro Water District and was a Catholic. Survivors: wife, Alicia Charles Lugo; daughters, Betty S. Cordova and Charlotte Cordova, both of San Antonio; sons, Alejandro Cordova, Jr., and Concepcion Lugo III, both of San Antonio; sisters, Margaret Lopez, Rosie Baez and Janie Trevino, all of Edna and Sara Spicer of Ganado; brothers, Joe Lugo, John Lugo, Nick Lugo and Feliz Lugo, all of Edna. A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Sunday at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be 10 a. m. Monday at Saint Agnes Catholic Church of Edna, the Rev. Jerry Caponi officiating.
