Edna—Maria Guadalupe Jacinto, 64, of Edna, was dead on arrival Sunday at an Edna hospital following a long illness. She was born Aug. 1, 1921, in San Benito. She had lived in Jackson County most of her life. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p. m. Monday at Slavik Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Edna Latin American Cemetery. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Vasquez and Mrs. Josephine Zarate, both of Edna; a son, Joe Molina of Edna; a step-son Johnny Vasquez Jr. of Edna; her step-father, Sesario Jacinto Sr. of Edna; two brothers, Sesario Jacinto Jr. of Edna and Amando Jacinto of Garland; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jimmy and Manuel Zarate Jr., Gilbert and Steve Cavazos Jr., David Vasquez and Hector Jacinto.

Edna—Mrs. Maria Luz Jacinto, 73, a long time resident of Edna, died at her home here Friday. She had been paralyzed for the past 30 years. Mrs. Jacinto was born Aug. 4, 1897 in Hidalgo County and had resided in Edna since 1926. Rosary was recited Friday night at the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 4 p. m. from St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Clements Barron officiating. Burial will follow in Edna Latin-American Cemetery. Survivors include the husband, Sesorio Jacinto Sr. of Edna; three daughters, Mrs. Guadalupe Zapata and Mrs. Josephine Zarate, both of Edna and Mrs. Pauline Vasquez of Garland; two sons, Sesorio Jr. of Edna and Mindo Jacinto of Garland; two sisters, Mrs. Irene Alfaro of Lubbock and Mrs. Ignacia Garza of Olmito; three brothers, Manuel, Apolinar St. and Simon Garza, all of Garland; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Edna—Sesario Jacinto Sr., 80, died Monday at his residence following a lengthy illness. A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Tuesday at Slavik Funeral Home chapel in Edna. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Edna Latin American Cemetery. Mr. Jacinto was born Sept. 8, 1905 in Jalisco, Mexico. He was a retired farmer and member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. Surviving are two daughters, Pauline Vasquez and Josephine Zarate, both of Edna; four sons, Sesario Jr., Joe Molina and Johnny Vasquez Jr., all of Edna, and Amando Jacinto of Garland; 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Ardelia Maxine Jackson, 50, of 604 Virginia St., who died Wednesday at her residence, will be held at 1 p. m. Saturday at Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. P. Garrett, Michigan Boatner, Alfred Gordon, Morris Smith, Milton Bennett and Ervin Bell. Mrs. Jackson was born Jan. 15, 1922, in Jackson County, and had resided in Victoria for 30 years. She was a member of the Baptist Church, Sunlight Chapter No. 9 Order of the Eastern Star and American Woodmen Camp No. 85. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Lottie Hughes of Victoria; her foster father, the Rev. D. W. Brooks, and her foster mother, Mrs. Eugenia Brooks of Edna; a sister, Mrs. Gracie Henry of San Antonio and a brother, Marvin R. Henry of Victoria.

Edna--Mrs. Estelle Sayles Jackson, 49, a native of Jackson County, died at 11:45 a. m. Thursday in a Victoria hospital. She was born May 11, 1917, daughter of the late Matthew and Norma Jean Sayles of Edna. She was a teacher at Edna High School. Funeral will be at 10 a. m. Saturday from Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. George W. Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Sayles Cemetery under direction of Cook Funeral Home. Surviving are her husband, Rev. S. H. Jackson; a step-daughter, Mrs. Helen Jackson of Freeport; a step-son, Sherman Jr. of Waco; three sisters, Mrs. Laura Harris, Mrs. Octavia Cook and Mrs. Thyra Scott, all of Edna; and two brothers, Tom B. Sayles of Edna and Matthew W. Sayles of Los Angeles, Calif. Pallbearers will be members of the Edna High School faculty.

Hazel Madaline Jackson, eldest of five children, was born to Henry
Berry Jackson and Inez Litchfield Jackson in Port Arthur, Texas,
August 22, 1920, and spent her school-age years in Stockdale.
Following time spent at Southwest Texas State Teacher's College in
San Marcos, she taught Grades 1-8 in the Navidad School until she
met and married Henry Clay Whitley, Sr, in January of 1941. She was
preceded in death by Henry and her parents, Henry and Inez Jackson
and her brother, Henry Berry Jackson, Jr. Visitation is from 2-4 pm, Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 in Marble Falls at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be in Edna, Monday, Dec. 3, at 2 pm, at First Baptist Church, 309 Cottonwood St, Edna. Edna--Funeral services for James Madison Jackson, 69, who died at his residence at 702 E. Second St. Monday, will be held Tuesday from Shiloh Baptist Church where he was a member and trustee. The Rev. S. H. Jackson will officiate and burial will be in Sayles Cemetery under direction of Cook Funeral Home. Born May 31, 1896, at Texana, Mr. Jackson was a lifelong resident of Jackson County and a retired school bus operator. He was a veteran of World War I. Survivors include his wife, Esterlyn, and a daughter, Mrs. Ora Lee Davis of Houston.

Thomas Jahns, 82 of Ganado passed away on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017. He was born May 27, 1935 in Seguin, Texas to Alfred and Mary Reimer Jahns. Thomas is survived by his daughter Peggy (David) Radford and son Everett Jones; granddaughter Crystal (Jeff) Todish; grandson Ricky (Megan) Chisum; great-grandchildren, Ella and Connor Todish and Aiden, Cash and Adeline Chisum; and long time friend and companion Joyce Green. He is also survived by his sisters, Beatrice Brady and Patricia (Andy) Hildebrand; brothers, Lawrence (Jewel) Jahns and Dennis (Sherry) Jahns. Thomas is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 46 years, Sue Upton Jahns; sons, Mikey Jahns and Jerry Jones; and sister Valerie Bauer. Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ganado Funeral Home Chapel. The graveside funeral service was Monday, Oct. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Ganado City Cemetery with Pastor Chris Heinold officiating. Willie “Bill” Janecek, 94, pased away March 29, 2018. He was born January 13, 1924 in Sugar Land, Texas to Louise and race (Kuzel) Janecek. Bill married the love of his life Irene Mikusek on Oct. 14, 1952. He proudly served his country in the Army in Company C 300th Combat Engineers Battalion from Feb. 18, 1943 to Nov. 11, 1945. He was awarded the following: Purple Heart, World War II Victory Medal, Expert Marksmanship Badge, Am Theater Campaign Medal, EAME Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars. He was an active member in the Ganado American Legion Post 346, A life member of the VFW and a member of the SPJST. Bill was a long time carpenter and had a boat storage business for 33 years. He enjoyed playing dominoes with friends, dancing, traveling to music shows in Branson and Eureka Springs, hunting, fishing, gardening and sharing vegetables with friends. Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Irene, a son Lawrence Janecek, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister Lorraine (Christ) Quebe. Visitation is Monday, April 2, from 5-7 with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. at the Ganado Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, April 3 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Ganado with Rev. Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Hugh D. Jetton, 65, of Edna, passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents Lathy and Roberta Jetton, and one brother, Michael Jetton. He is survived by daughter, Lacy Jetton, brothers Dennis and Troy, sisters Brenda Lopez and Robbi Birkner and two grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Basilio R. Jimenez, Major -U.S. Army Retired, of Edna, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017, at the age of 80. He was born in Mission, Texas on April 7, 1937, to the late Pedro Jimenez and Guadalupe Rivera Jimenez. Basilio graduated from Mission High School in 1957, and also graduated from Ft. Knox Officer School and United States Army Armor School. Basilio served in the National Guard for 27 years which included being a Commander of the CoA, 6th Bn 112th Armor and retired from the United States Army in 1997 as a Major. He also worked in the Oil and Gas Industry for 24 years before finally retiring, Basilio enjoyed working with many organizations in Edna and Victoria including the Community Action Committee of Victoria, Golden Crescent Regional Planning Commission Board of Directors, Lavaca- Navidad River Authority Board of Directors, and Texana Ground Water Conservation District. Basilio is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Maclovia “Mac” Nava Jimenez; son, James Jimenez of Denver, Co., daughter, Joanne Webb and her husband Joseph of Cypress; grandchildren, Rohr Webb and Olivia Webb; sisters, Dalia Bazaldua, Anita Garza, Margie Martinez, and Linda Arevalo; brothers, Robert Jimenez, and Tony Jimenez; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents Basilio is preceded in death by his sisters, Maria Guadalupe Jimenez and Ruth Salazar; brothers, Jose Jimenez, Pedro Jimenez, Juan Jimenez, Daniel Jimenez, and Sam Jimenez. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 7, from 9 -10:30 a.m. with a rosary to be recited at 10:30 a.m. Funeral Service will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 7, in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel of Edna. Nettie Mae Joines passed from this earthly life on Feb. 23, 1996 in Bay City to join the Angels in Heaven and to meet our Almighty God. Mrs. Joines was born on Feb. 19, 1904 in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. to J. B. and Nellie Carvell. She married Robert Ruben Joines in 1918 and raised their family of six starting in Beulah [Buhler] and later in Francitas, Texas. Robert preceded her in death on June 13, 1977. Also preceding her in death was her sons Earnest Neal and Marvin Carl and a daughter, Dollie Mae Hunt. Mrs. Joines was a longstanding member of our Lord’s Church, The Church of Christ on Sixth Street. Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Sunday, Feb. 25 at the Sixth Street Church of Christ in Bay City with Brother Joe Wrape officiating. She will be laid to rest in Cedarvale Cemetery. Mrs. Joines leaves behind a sister Mackie L. Burditt of Olivia and three daughters, Lilly [Lillie] Lorine Schmersahl of Sweeny, Margaret Aileen Richardson and Goldie Lucille Burt both of Bay City; 13 grandchildren (all with her special nicknames), numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Pallbearers are grandsons, Gary Joines, Paul Hunt, Don Burt, Don Schmersahl and grandsons-in-law Audie Northcutt, Jr. and Billy Wright. Barbara Ann Jones, 75, of Vanderbilt, Texas, passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2018 surrounded by her loving family, and her beloved dog "Buster". She was born on January 12, 1943 in LaSalle, Texas to Henry Sumbera and Annie Hajovsky Sumbera. Barbara is survived by her son Bradley (Martha) Jones; daughter Jewel (John) Anderson; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Johnny, and brother Patrick Sumbera. Edna—Stella Mae Martin Jones, 98, passed away on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009. She was born on Feb. 14, 1911 in Edna to the late Rosie Lee and Sam Martin. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where she served in the choir and women mission. She was preceded in death by her husband, George T. Jones. She leaves to cherish to her loving memories her daughter; Ethel Mae Hosey Marshall; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; one special cousin, Rosie Lee Davis; and special nieces, Meager Lee Parlor, Velma Brown, and Clara and Lauraetta. Troy Don Jones, 51, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2018 at Kaseman Hospital Hospice Unit in Albuquerque, New Mexico after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Theresa, daughter, Bridget, son, Christopher, and granddaughter, Allison all of Las Vegas, New Mexico. His mother, Linda Jones of Ganado, brother Keith and his wife Kelli, nieces, Aspen and Juliet of Nocona, Texas, as well as several uncles, aunts, and cousins. Troy Don is preceded in death by his father, Norman Jones of Ganado and grandparents Troy and Opal Jones, and Don and Wanda McDonald, all of Bowie, Texas. Troy was born in Nocona and raised in Ganado, where he graduated high school. He excelled in multiple sports, including football and track & field, while also being National Honor Society, Industrial Arts President, Class President and Class Favorite. He received his Bachelor of Science from Sam Houston State University, Master of Science in Psychology from New Mexico Highlands University and Doctorate in Psychology from Florida Institute of Technology. Troy was employed at New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute in Las Vegas, New Mexico from 1997 to 2016, beginning as a clinical psychologist and later serving as the Community Based Service Division Director and as the hospital administrator for eight years. Troy was deeply dedicated to providing quality services to the patients, clients and residents of NMBHI and also genuinely cared about the staff who provided these services. He was recently employed as the Hospital Administrator at the Human Services in Yankton, South Dakota, where he continued to share his exceptional administrative and leadership skills. Troy was an avid fisherman who fished "wherever there was water" and loved to shop at Bass Pro Shop. He enjoyed his time at Conchas Lake, a cabin in Colorado and off shore fishing in Texas, and even took up ice-fishing in South Dakota. Troy never met a person he didn't like and was well loved and respected by many friends, co-workers and family. Edna--Alma Jordan, 86, of Edna died Monday morning at the home of a daughter in Morales. Mrs. Jordan was born May 12, 1903, in Edna, daughter of Andrew Duncan and Ellie Watson. Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. Thursday at Faith Temple Church of God and Christ with Elder Edward Kemper officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cook-Butler Funeral Home in Edna. Surviving are four sons, D. J. Jordan and Andrew Jordan Sr., both of Edna, Hollis Jordan of Rosharon and Willie James Jordan of Houston; five daughters, Dewerylee Cook, Rosie Lee Patterson and Lena May Lefridge all of Edna, Earnestine Barnes of Houston and Alma Callis of Ganado; 28 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Edna—Superintendent Andrew Jordan Sr., 73, of Edna, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003. He was born Dec. 9, 1929, in Edna, to the late Dewey and Alma Duncan Jordan. He was a minister and plumber. He was the owner of Jordan Plumbing Co. and member of the Church of God in Christ. Survivors: wife, Evelyn K. Jordan; daughters, Wanda Bryant and Annie Ruth Gipson, both of Edna; step-daughters, Louise Brown and Cynthia Green, both of Waller; son, Andrew Jordan Jr. of Edna; step-son, Christopher Jackson of Waller; sisters, Ernestine Barnes of Houston, Duery Lee Cook, Rosie Patterson and Lena Mae Lefridge, all of Edna; brothers, D. Edna—Dewey Jordan, 87, of Edna died Friday at his home after an illness. He was born March 15, 1900, in Edna to Johnny Jordan and Agnes Johnson Jordan. He was retired from the maintenance department of the Texas Department of Highways. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Services will be conducted at 1 p. m. Monday at Shiloh Baptist Church, with the Rev. Pat Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Sayles Cemetery in Edna. Surviving are his wife, Alma Jordan of Edna; five sons, D. J. Edna—Raymond Jordan, 57, of Edna, died Monday afternoon in a local hospital following a short illness. A Korean War veteran, he was born Jan. 23, 1931, to Edna resident Alma Duncan Jordan, and the late Dewey Jordan. Mr. Jordan served in the armed forces for nine years. Bessie Juranek, 94 of Ganado went to her Heavenly Home on Monday, April 30, 2018. She was born on Oct. 21, 1923 in El Campo, Texas to John Kotlar and Agnes Kudela Kotlar. Bessie married the love of her life Frank Joe Juranek on Sept. 27, 1945 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Bessie was employed with I.C. manufacturing, Ganado ISD Cafeteria, and Conner's Corner. She loved gardening, quilting, sewing, cooking, and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bessie is survived by her six children: Mary Ann Kallus (Daniel), Helen Steffek (Leonard), Virginia Greathouse (Carl), Bettie Boepple (Tommy), Nancy Glover (Maurice), and Edwin Juranek (Barbara), sister Margie Drastata; grandchildren: Teddy Kallus, Mark Kallus, Judy Bradicich, Larson Steffek, Lance Steffek, Rian Juranek, Eric Juranek, Christina Greathouse, Gary Greathouse, Carlton Greathouse, Gee Gee Gutierrez, Stephanie Majewski, Matthew Boepple, Kyle Glover and Brooke Marin; also her 29 great-grandchildren.
Bessie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers Frank, Blaze and Johnny Kotlar; and sisters Mary Popp, Cecila Hoffman, Betty Juranek and her great greatgrandson Isaac Mark Kallus.
Pallbearers are Mark Kallus, Larson Steffek, Rian Juranek, Matthew Boepple, Kyle Glover, and Gary Greathouse. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday, May 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary at 6 p.m. at Ganado Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service will be Thursday, May 3, at 10 a. m. at Assumption Catholic Church with Father Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Interment will follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery.
The family of Bessie would like to say a very special thank you to Ganado Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and their staff, and Hospice of South Texas for the care they showed Mom during this time.
