Kenneth Wayne Haney, of Edna, Texas passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2017, at the age of 89. He was born on November 9, 1928, in Waskom, Texas, to the late Robert Wayne Haney and Dorothy Elizabeth Haney. Kenneth graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1946 and looked forward each year to the annual class reunion. He then served in the United States Army before becoming a gas measurement technician for United Texas Transmission. He retired after 31 years. He married Lovie Jo Slaughter Haney, February 24, 1957 and they were married for 60 years before her death last year. He enjoyed talking about cars and telling jokes. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend who will be missed dearly. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Nairn and her husband Rocky; sons, Keith Haney and his wife Debbie, Wayne Haney and his wife Brenda; grandchildren, Craig Nairn, Elizabeth Duarte, Amanda Haney, Veronica Haney, Samantha Haney, Casey Haney, Garrett Haney, and Matthew Haney; ten great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Kenneth is preceded in death by his loving wife; Lovie Jo Haney; sister, Bobbie Cornelius; grandson, Russell Haney. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, from 5-7 P.M. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel with the burial to follow immediately after the Funeral Service in the Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mary Margaret Clark Heath, age 88, of Speaks, TX, passed away on Friday evening, September 28, 2018 with her children at her bedside. She was born on September 18, 1930, in Speaks, to parents Jimmy Dick & Linnie Clark. Mary graduated from Edna High School. She attended nursing school in Houston, where she met and married Jack Heath. After working for Gulf Oil, she also worked and retired from the City of Houston. She enjoyed community functions and valued friendships. Mary Margaret devoted her life to her family as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Mary is survived by: brother Douglas Clark; daughter Lynn Bryan; son Jack Heath, Jr. & wife Pam; 5 grandchildren, Aaron Heath, Amber Hawthorne, Tricia Russell, Sean Heath and Blake Heath; 1 step grandson; and 16 great grandchildren. Barbara Henderson, 64, of Lolita, Texas passed away on August 26, 2018 after a year long battle with glioblastoma (brain cancer). She was born on Dec. 17, 1953 in Straubing, Germany to Mathilde Godin. She married Johnny L. Henderson on Nov. 2, 1974 in Lolita. She is survived by her husband and five children, John E. Henderson, Jennifer Tullos (Jonathan), Tammy Gendke (Bobby), Jackie Hudson (Jonathan), and Stephanie Escamilla (Jeffery), 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother. There will be a family graveside service at a later date. Edna—Adolph F. Hernandez, 61, of Edna, died in a Victoria hospital Tuesday, April 2, 1991, following a short illness. Mr. Hernandez was born April 15, 1929, in Edna, to the late Faustino and Julia Gutierrez Hernandez and was retired from Alcoa. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, a life member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the G. I. Forum. He worked many years with the Boy Scouts of America and was married 32 years. Edna—Amada Morales Hernandez, 87, of Edna, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001. She was born Oct. 24, 1913, in Mateuhala, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to the late Serapio and Apolenar Cardona Morales. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. Edna—Mrs. Anita Chacon Hernandez, 81, a resident of Edna for 47 years, died at her residence at 910 E. Third St. at 5 p. m. Friday. Mrs. Hernandez was born on June 4, 1884, in Mexico. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a. m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with burial in Edna Latin American Cemetery. The Rev. Stanley Petru will officiate. Slavik Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A Rosary was recited Saturday night at the funeral home chapel and another will be recited at 7:30 p. m. Sunday at the chapel. Edna—Funeral services for Facundo Hernandez, 41, of Edna, who was killed Thursday in a tractor accident in Louisiana, will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday from the St. Agnes Catholic Church here. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 p. m. until time of services. A rosary was recited Friday night at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home. A spokesman for the family said Mr. Hernandez and part of his family had been staying in New Iberia, La. several months, while he was working on a sugar cane farm near there. He reportedly was killed instantly when a tractor he was driving overturned on him Thursday morning on the farm. He was born in Jackson County, Nov. 27, 1930, and was a member of St. Agnes Church and the Crucilla Organization. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Maria Hernandez and his mother, Mrs. Manuela Hernandez, both of Edna; two daughters, Theresa and Louisa of Edna; three step-daughters, Deborah, Vicki and Kim Raynard, all of Edna; three step-sons, Joe Alfaro, Danny Garcia and Yolanda Garcia, all of Edna; two sisters, Mary Berves and Marcella Sota, both of Edna, and four brothers, Antonio, Joe, Modesto and Fred, all of Edna.

Funeral services were held at 9 a. m. Monday in St. Agnes Catholic Church for Mrs. Francisca Hernandez, 63, of Edna, with Rev. Stanley Petru officiating. A Rosary was recited Saturday at 7 p. m. at the Slavik funeral Home. Burial was in the Edna Latin Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Thomas Garcia, Gilbert Sanchez, Ben Ochoa, Matis Ochoa, Manuel Villareal, Jimmy Ochoa and Paul Sanchez. Mrs. Hernandez was born May 9, 1901 in Kingsboro, Texas, and had lived in Jackson County nearly 60 years. She died Dec. 25 at her home on Route 1, near Edna. She is survived by her husband, Pete Hernandez of Edna; and nine children, John DeLeon, Steve DeLeon, Antonio DeLeon, Frank DeLeon, Emanuel DeLeon, Jessie DeLeon, Francis DeLeon and Angelita DeLeon all of Edna and Severo DeLeon of San Angelo.

Edna—Manuela Hernandez, 90, of Edna died Sunday, Feb. 26, 1995. She was born Feb. 17, 1905, in Santa Anna to the late Manuel and Nacaria Moya Bentacur. She married Ignacio Hernandez in August 1921 in Edna. She was a mid-wife for over 60 years in Jackson County, a homemaker and member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. Edna—Richardo “Winche” Hernandez, 50, of Edna, died Friday, March 6, 1998. He was born Sept. 28, 1947, in Little Rock, Ark., to Minnie Garza Montelongo of Edna and the late David Hernandez. He was a maintenance man for David Rose. He was a former missionary in El Paso and Pentecostal. Serafin Hernandez, Sr., of Edna, passed away May 11, 2011 at the age of 54. He was born in Acambaro, Guanajuato, Mexico, on April 11, 1957, to the late Moises and Sara Garcia Hernandez. Serafin is survived by his wife, Josefina Ruiz Cortez Hernandez; daughter, Consuelo Hernandez; son, Serafin Hernandez, Jr., all of Edna; sisters, Teresa Jaime and Evelia Soto of Mexico, and Rubelia Garcia and Fabiola Garcia of Chicago; and brothers, Armando Hernandez and Jose Hernandez of Edna, Refugio Hernandez of California, and Javier Hernandez of Mexico. Edna—Antonio Herrera Jr., 78, of Edna, died in Pearland, Monday, April 27, 1992, after a brief illness. Mr. Herrera was born Feb. 22, 1914, in Jackson County to the late Antonio and Sofia Dorado Herrera Sr. He was a construction foreman for Mobil Oil Corp. and was a Catholic. Antonio Herrera, Sr., passed away last Sunday while enroute to the DeTar Hospital in Victoria. He had been ill for some time. He was the caretaker of the Mexican Cemetery, and was well thought of by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife and eleven grown children.

She was born July 18, 1920, in San Pedro de las Colonias, Coahuila, Mex. A homemaker, she was a member of the Christian Family Movement, the Renewed Group, Guadalupana Society, the Catholic Daughters of America, LULAC, the Legion of Mary and the Crucillistas. Edna—Frank Herrera Sr., 71, of Houston, died Friday in a San Antonio hospital after a short illness. He was born Oct. 10, 1915, in Edna, to the late Antonio and Sophia Dorado Herrera Sr. He married Elvira Gonzales Herrera on May 31, 1938, in Edna. A retired auto mechanic, he was a lay minister and a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church of Houston. He had served as a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church Parish Council of Houston, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent DePaul Society, Holy Name Society, Guadalupanas, Crucillos, the Christian Family Movement and Renew. He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World, G. I. Forum, Sons of America, Mexican American Democrats, the Political Association of Spanish Speaking Organizations and the League of United Latin American Citizens. A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Sunday at the Slavik Funeral Home chapel of Edna. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna, with the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating. Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery. Surviving beside his wife, Elvira Gonzales Herrera of Houston, are three daughters, Elvira Munoz, Odelia Cardona and Gloria Saldana, all of Houston; two sons, Frank Herrera Jr. of San Antonio and Robert Herrera of Salt Lake City, Utah; three sisters, Angelita Covarrubias of Edna, Conchita Castro of Elk City, Okla.; and Mary Garza of Victoria; four brothers, Lupe D. Herrera, Antonio Herrera and Leonard Herrera, all of Edna, and Ray Herrera, of Burkburnett; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Armando Alvarado, Robert Herrera, Frank Herrera Jr., Reyes Herrera, Jose Morin and Leandro Munoz.

Burkburnett—Relles Herrera, 83,of Burkburnett, died Thursday, June 3, 2004. He was born Sept. 23, 1920, in Edna, to the late Antonio and Sophia Doral Herrera. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army, and a retired civil service supply clerk. He was a Catholic. Survivors: daughter, Mary Moore of Tillar, Ark.; son, Tony Herrera of Burkburnett; sister, Mary Garza of Victoria; and three grandchildren. Preceded in death by: wife, Fidela Reyes Herrera; sisters, Rita Tijerina, Chonita Castro, and Angelita Caburrubia; and brothers, Juan Herrera, Antonio Herrera, Daniel Herrera, Frank Herrera, Leonard Herrera, and Lupe Herrera. Edna—Funeral services for Sophia Herrera, 82, of Edna will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the St. Agnes Church, with the Rev. James Condreau officiating. Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Herrera was born April 11, 1894 in San Diego, Tex., and had lived in the county since she was 18. She died Tuesday in a local hospital. Surviving are four daughters, Angelita Cobarubias, Rita Flores, and Mary Garza, all of Edna, and Chanita Castro of Elk City, Okla.; six sons, Lanadro, Lupe and Antonio Herrera Jr. all of Edna, and Daniel of Port Lavaca, Frank of Houston and Ray of Wichita Falls, one brother, Jesse Darado of Kerrville; 47 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.

Donald Wayne Huseman, 77, of Ganado, passed away September 10, 2018. He was born on May 21, 1941 in Ganado to the late Wilbur and Hilda Meyer Huseman. Donald was a rice farmer and preneed funeral counselor. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Hassler Huseman of Ganado; daughter, Wanda Helmcamp and husband Michael of Ganado; son, Ben Huseman and wife Rhonda of Rosenberg; grandchildren, Derek Grudzieski and wife Kim and Mandy Keen and husband Sam; great-grandchildren, Tristan Grudzieski and Everett Keen and sisters, Bess Matthys of Richmond and Ben Lois Vyvial and husband Daniel of Ganado. Visitation was from 9-10 a.m. Thursday, September 13 at St. James Lutheran Church in Ganado. Funeral services followed at 10 a.m. with Pastor Chris Heinold officiating. Burial followed at Ganado City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Derek Grudzieski, Sam Keen, Michael Helmcamp, Fred Rickaway, Gary Skalicky and Daniel Vyvial.
