VICTORIA — Shirley Garcia , 70, passed January 25, 2022, in the comfort of her home due to an ongoing illness. Family and friends will gather for visitation, Tuesday, February 1st from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Grace Funeral Home, 2401 Houston Highway in Victoria, a Rosary will be prayed at 6:00PM. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00AM, Wednesday, February 2nd at The Trinity Family Center, 5508 FM 616 in Vanderbilt. Burial will follow at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church Cemetery in LaSalle. Shirley was born July 5, 1951, in Victoria, to Billy Ray, Sr. and Edith Alean Gregurek Cantrell. In 1966, she joined the Sisters of the Incarnate Word & Blessed Sacrament where she served & earned her RN & BSN in Nursing. She worked extensively in Labor & Delivery for numerous years. She taught at Nazareth Academy & spent one year in Africa under LARC in Sudan. She was supportive to many people and taught CCD at Holy Family Catholic Church. After returning from Africa, she married Thomas Garcia on February 7, 1987. Together they adopted their two daughters, Christina & Kellie Garcia. Shirley had a deep faith and believed in her Lord and Savior and made sure that her children obtained their sacraments and held the same reverence of our God. She was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt, friend and amazing person to have in your life and she will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, Shirley’s family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of South Texas, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or your local animal shelter. Funeral services for Ludvik John Gerik, 74, of La Salle, were
held Wednesday at the St. John Bosco Mr. Gerik, who passed away March 14, was born in LaGrange on August 18, 1885. A retired operator, he had lived in Jackson County since-1929. He is survived by his widow, Sofie Gerik of LaSalle; one daughter, Wilma Kolar of LaSalle; two sons, Lenord Gerik of Kingsville and Robert Gerik of New York; also by three brothers and five sisters, 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

EDNA Zofie Gerik, 94, of Edna, formerly of La Salle, died Monday in an Edna hospital following a lengthy illness. A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Slavik Funeral Home chapel in Edna. Funeral services will be held at 25 p.m. Wednesday at St. Theresa Catholic Church in La Salle. The Rev. Joseph Hybner, pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna, will officiate. Burial will follow in the La Salle! Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Raymond Kolar, Larry Kolar, Clarence Kolar, A.E. McNabb, V.T. Richter and Bill Gentry. Mrs. Gerik was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, March 18, 1890. She had been a Jackson County resident; since 1928. She was a homemaker and member of the St. Theresa Catholic Church and Altar Society. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Wilma Kolar of La Salle; two sons, Robert Gerik of Bridge City and Leonard Gerik of Kingsville; a sister, Mrs. Rosie Seith of West; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

VANDERBILT--Jose Rodriguez Gomez, 52, of Vanderbilt, died Sunday April 11, 1999. He was born Sept. 18, 1946, in Stafford, to the late Pablo and Irene Ortez Gomez. He worked in maintenance at Citizens Medical Center and was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church. Survivors: wife, Lorenza Breseno daughters, Mary Gomez and Julie Cortez, both of Edna, Hilda Lovely of Berclair, Delia Nonemacher, Celia Figirova and Linda Lugo, all of Vanderbilt; sons, Jose Gomez Jr. of Goliad, Renae Gomez, Juan Bresend and Martin Breseno, all of Vanderbilt sister, Margarita Quellar of Houston brother, Jesus Gomez of Houston; and 11 grandchildren. Visitation will be 9 a.m. today at St John Bosco Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited 7:30 p.m Wednesday at the church. Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, the Rev. Jim Deaconson officiating. Burial will be at St. Theresa Catholic Cemetery in LaSalle. Arcadio Rodriguez Gonzales 94-year old Jackson County farmer of La Salle, died at his home there on Sept. 2. Services were held at Slavik Chapel Monday morning, with interment in the La Salle Cemetery. Rev. David Muerer officiated. Mr. Gonzales, who had been active until fairly recently, was born in Mexico on June 12, 1867. He had been a resident of Jackson County the past 15 years, and had lived in Texas since 1890. He is survived, by four sons, Benina and Pablo of La Salle, Pedro of Sugarland and Antonio of San Marcos; a daughter, Florentina Morcado of Lockhart; and two brothers, Pasqual of Edinburg and Louis of Beasley.

Last rites were held recently for Isabelle Gonzales, 78, a resident of La Salle, who died October 25 after a month’s illness. Burial was in the La Salle Cemetery. Born in Mexico, she came to Texas in 1901 and to Jackson County seven years ago. Her husband is Alcario Gonzales. Other survivors are six children, three at LaSalle, two at San Marcos and one at Boling.

LA WARD - Rodolfo Barrios Gonzales, 61, of La Ward, passed away on Monday, Feb. 18, 2008 in Victoria. He was born Sept. 11, 1946, in La Salle, to the late Manuela Barrios and Pablo R. Gonzales. He was a t-shirt operator for Inteplast. He is survived by his sisters, Sue Rivera and Raquel Rodriquez, both of Victoria, Carmelita B. Gonzales, Deborah Ann Gonzales, Jacqueline Lee Gonzales, Leticia B. Gonzales, Emma B. Gonzales, and Lydia B. Gonzales, all of La Ward; and brothers, Edward B. Gonzales of La Ward, Jacinto B. Gonzales of Victoria, and Joe B. Gonzales of El Campo. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Tirsa B. Gonzales and Felicia B. Gonzales. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Slavik Funeral Chapel in Edna. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, the Rev. Johnson Owusu-Boateng officiating. Burial will be at St. Theresa Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eugene Gonzales, Salvador Rodriguez, Tim McCarthy, Rodney Rivera, Juan Vasquez, and Isidro Carizales. NEW BRAUNFELS - Clarence Paul Gwosdz, 61, of New Braunfels, formerly of Victoria, Alvin and Edna, died Monday, July 29, 2002. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Fellow-Instrument Society of America. Survivors: wife, Gertrude Gwosdz; daughters, Elaine Gilman, Shirley Gwosdz and Carol Gwosdz; sons, Thomas Gwosdz and Jerry Gwosdz; sisters, Evelyn Eisman, Patricia Hertz, Virginia Wagner, Mary Thompson, Carolyn Koop and Kathleen Holdgraf; brother, Leon Eugene Gwosdz; and nine grandchildren. Preceded in death by: brother, Emanuel Gwosdz. A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Friday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Conrad E. Gwosdz passed away Tuesday, June 17, at 6:55 p. m. Death came after an illness of about one year. His passing came as a shock to his many friends. Mr. Gwosds had reached the age of 54 years. He was born in Yorktown on Feb. 4, 1898, a son of Emanuel and Anna Gwondz. He was married on Feb. 22, 1921, in Yorktown to Miss Lydia Gleinser of Meyersville at the Holy Cross Catholic Church. She has been his constant companion for 30 years. Mr. and Mrs. Gwosdz had made their home in Yorktown until 1928 and then moved to LaSalle, where they have lived for the past 23 years. Farmer and stockman were his occupations. Rites were from the Slavik Funeral Home and burial was in the St. Theresa Cemetery in LaSalle. Rev. Hubert Janek officiated. Pallbearers were Richard Reininger, Henry Sumbera, Frank Korenek, Ernst Hollas of LaSalle, Jack Novosad and Victor Tlucek of Edna. Mr. Gwosdz was a member of the VFW, being a veteran of World War I and serving two years; also a member of K. of C., Farm Bureau and Holy Name Society. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lydia Gwosdz; a son, Johnny Gwosdz of LaSalle; a daughter, Mrs. Bernice Helweg of Victoria; three grandchildren, Stanley and Linda Gwosdz and Brenda Helweg: also four sisters, and five brothers.

Lydia Gleinser Gwosdz, 89, of Victoria, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1993. She was born Sept. 1, 1903 in Meyersville to the late Joe and Theresa Gleinser. She was a homemaker and a Catholic. Survivors include: daughter, Bernice Helweg; son, Johnny Gwosdz; sister, Josie Lemke; brothers, Adolph Gleinser, George Gleinser, Gene Gleinser, Rudy Gleinser, Otto Gleinser and Bill Gleinser; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
