Sunday, August 23rd, Mr. George W. Greenwood, a well known and highly esteemed Jackson County stockman farmer, passed away following a year or more of failing health. Death was and a surprise as his condition had been serious for the past several weeks. The funeral service was held at the Methodist Church in Edna Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 o’clock being conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.C. Young. Interment was made in the Edna Cemetery, where a large crowd gathered to pay last tribute of love and respect to their departed friend and neighbor. Mr. Greenwood was born April 10, 1865, in Springfield, ILL., but moved from that place with his parents when he was a baby. The family moved to Warsaw, Mo., where the subject of this sketch grew to manhood. In 1880 he moved to Dallas where he farmed and raised stock. Later he operated a meat market at Garland, Texas. He was united in marriage to Miss Addie E. Talbot on February 26, 1889, at Wylie, Texas. There were eleven children born to this union, four boys and seven girls, seven of whom are now living, 5 girls and 2 boys. December 22, 1912, Mr. and Mrs. Greenwood and children moved to Jackson County and settled on a place below Edna owned by Mr. P.W. Clement, where he farmed for a number of years. Later, when Mr. Clement was commissioner, Mr. Greenwood was road boss for him. He was an industrious man and as a result was considered one of the county’s outstanding farmers. He was a good neighbor and a true friend, and when he passed over the River there was grief in many homes. He leaves a wife and 5 daughters and 2 sons, 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren to mourn his passing. The children are Miss Lorine Greenwood, Mesdames J.W. Givens and W.A. SOUTHERS, of Edna, Ted Hodges of a Pasadena, and Willie Gregory of Heavener, Okla., and Messrs. George Greenwood of Houston and Jesse Greenwood of Pasadena. John Robert Gutierrez, 49, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024. John was born on December 17, 1974, in Ganado, Texas. John was a very kindhearted, careful and selfless man. He was always happy and always had a smile on his face. He was a very giving person; if he saw someone struggling, he wouldn't hesitate to help. He was a man with strong faith and love for Jesus. I know for a fact that he is up in heaven where there is no pain, no suffering and he's dancing. He is no longer struggling; he is finally home where his soul can rest. John always made a positive impact on anyone he came in contact with. He was a very big family man; he lived for his family and his children. There was never a day where he would not call or text one of his kids or one of his brothers. He loved everyone equally and always had hope. He would always bring a smile to peoples face and make everyone laugh. He was a great brother and an even better father. Even though he had his fair share of ups and downs with everybody, he always made up with everyone. As a father he gave his all. Even when his children were wild and crazy he'd still love them. When they were mad, he was understanding. With so much still to say and so little time we are happy we were able to have experiences as a father, a brother and an uncle with him. John is survived by his grandmother Clara Gutierrez, daughters Marcie Gutierrez & Bethany Gutierrez, sons Caleb Gutierrez, John Gutierrez, Jr., & Zechariah Gutierrez, brothers Mark Gutierrez & Martin Gutierrez, Jr. (Yolanda) and parents Martin Gutierrez & Virginia Rodriguez and 4 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brother Julian Gutierrez, sister Marcellina Gutierrez, sister-in-law Rebecca Gutierrez, aunts Dora Cardenas & Felipa Cox, uncle Andrew Gutierrez and grandfather Manuel Gutierrez, Sr. Services are pending with Ganado Funeral Home. John's celebration of life will be held on Saturday August 10, 2024 10:00am at the Ganado Funeral Home chapel.
