Edna—Alexandria Garcia, infant daughter, of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Garcia of Edna, died Wednesday in a Corpus Christi hospital. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p. m. Friday at Slavik Funeral Home chapel in Edna. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Saturday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna with the Rev. Joseph Hybner, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Edna Latin American Cemetery. She was born June 15, 1984, in Edna. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. Surviving are four sisters, Susie Garza and Maria, Elia and Inez Garcia, all of Edna; and three brothers, Danail, Alfredo and Reuben Garcia Jr., all of Edna. Edna—Annie Marie Garcia, 39, of Edna died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 1995. She was born June 21, 1956, in Alligator, Miss., to Otilia Trevino Vasquez of Edna and the late Joe Vasquez Sr. She married Domingo Garcia on Aug. 3, 1974, in Edna. The homemaker was owner of Annie’s Café. She was a member of Templo Monte Calvario Pentecostal Church. Survivors: husband; daughter, Amanda Garcia of Edna; sons, Domingo Garcia Jr., and Mathew Joseph Garcia, both of Edna; sisters, Estella Cavazos, Georgia Vasquez and Senaida Tristan, all of Edna; and brothers, Rueben Vasquez of Corpus Christi and Richard Vasquez of Victoria. Preceded in death by: brothers, Joe Vasquez Jr., and Fidel Vasquez. A wake service will be held 7 p. m. Thursday at Slavik Funeral Home. Services will be held at 9 a. m. Edna—Ben S. Garcia, 66, lifelong resident of Edna, died at 10 p. m. Wednesday in a Victoria hospital after a lengthy illness. A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Friday at the Slavik Funeral Home chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a. m. Saturday at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna with the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating. He was born Dec. 14, 1923, in Edna, to the late Ben and Elvira Sanchez Garcia Sr. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Jackson County Precinct 3 and a Catholic. Surviving are his wife, Cecilia Garcia of Edna; two sons, Joe Garcia of Edna and Luis Garcia of Gatesville; three sisters, Martina Zambrano, Louisa Siller and Beatrice Orsabal, all of Edna; and six grandchildren.

Edna—Beva Garza Garcia, 61, of Richmond died Monday at her residence after a long illness. A rosary will be recited at 8 p. m. Tuesday in the Slavik Funeral Home chapel in Edna. Funeral services are set for 2 p. m. Wednesday in St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Joe Hybner officiating. Burial will be in Edna Latin American Cemetery. She was born July 15, 1931, in Jackson County and lived here until she moved to Richmond in 1967. Her husband, John C. Garcia, preceded her in death in 1972. Surviving are six daughters, Guadalupe Vasquez of Spring, Lidia Diaz of New Gulf, Mary Jane Garcia of Edna, Melba Garcia of Richmond, Jerri Garcia of Richmond and Brenda Garcia of Richmond; two sons, Robert of Edna and Danny of Richmond; a sister, Leonarda Garcia of Richmond; three brothers, Alex Garza and Julio Garza of Bay City and Fran Garza of Boling; and 11 grandchildren. Vanderbilt—Guillermo Garcia, 94, of Vanderbilt died Sunday, Sept. 29, 1996. He was born June 25, 1902, in San Francisco, De Pauda Tamaulipas, Mexico, to the late Abelardo and Emilia Zavala. He was a custodian at Industrial Independent School District. Mr. Garcia was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church and Cruziyista’s in Vanderbilt. Survivors: daughters, Delores Palacios of Victoria and Luz Garibay of San Antonio; stepdaughter, Virginia Mata of Bay City; sons, Tim Garcia of Vanderbilt and Gilbert Garcia of Victoria; stepbrother, Antonio Zavala of Del Rio; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: wives, Adelina Ballin Garcia and Ramona Leal Garcia; sons, Felix Garcia and Raymond Garcia; stepson, Rocky Martinez; sister, Felipa Emilia Garcia; and stepbrother, Manuel Zavala. Edna—Josefa Cantu Garcia, 92, of Edna, died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 26, 1897, in Gonzales to the late Melesio and Trinidad Garza Cantu. She had been a resident of Jackson County for 69 years. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Wednesday at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna. Burial will follow in the Edna Latin American Cemetery. Surviving are four daughters, Josefa Quintana of El Campo and Trinidad Vasquez, Delores Garza and Mary Jane Garcia, all of Edna; 34 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Garcia, on Dec. 1, 1988; two sons, Tiofilo and John Garcia. Edna—Robert Garcia, 39, of Edna, died Saturday, April 11, 1992, after a lengthy illness. Mr. Garcia was born March 1, 1953, in Victoria to the late Alfredo and Inez Carbajal Garcia. Mr. Garcia was born Feb. 14, 1956, at Ganado, and was an employee of Smith Feed Store here and a member of the Volunteer Fire Department and St. Agnes Church. He died Thursday in a Victoria hospital. Earlier this month he had been hurt in a job accident on private property in Victoria County. Friday from St. Agnes Catholic Church for Wencesloo “Ben” Garcia, 71-yer-old retired farmer, who was killed Wednesday night after being struck by a car. Officiating at the services will be the Rev. Mr. Garcia was born April 20, 1889, in Brownsville and had resided in Jackson County most of his life. Wharton—Frank Garza Sr., 80, of Wharton died Saturday, Sept. 21, 1996. He was born Nov. 13, 1915, in Edna to the late Manuel and Gregoria Moreno Garza. He was retired from Texroy Oil Well Service as a roughneck. Mr. Garza was a Catholic. Vanderbilt—Funeral services for Rene Garza, 16, of Vanderbilt, who drowned Friday morning while fishing in Garcitas Creek just west of La Salle, will be held at 10 a. m. Monday at St. John Bosco Catholic Church. The Rev. Richard Toal will officiate. Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under direction of the Slavik Funeral Home. Rene, who would have been a sophomore in Industrial High School next term, was born Sept. 14, 1964, in Ganado. He reportedly was fishing from the railway bridge over the Garcitas Creek near Farm-to-Market Road 616 and fell into the creek, in about 30 feet of water. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Abelardo Garza; grandparents, Mrs. Carmen Garza and Mr. and Mrs. Jose De Los Santos, two brothers, Michael and Rudy and a sister, Mrs. Linda Garcia, all of Vanderbilt, and another brother, Henry, of Victoria. Edna—Samuel Garza, 87, of Edna died Friday in an Edna hospital. He was born March 20, 1897, in Corpus Christi to the late Joe M. and Petra Pedrasa Garza. He was engaged in farming and ranching on the Westhoff Ranch in Jackson County prior to his retirement. He was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna. A rosary will be recited at 8 p. m. Sunday in the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel of Edna. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Monday in St. Agnes Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Lyssy officiating. Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery. Edna—Antonio Lopez Gonzales, 49, died Tuesday at his home in Port Lavaca of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Gonzales was born June 15, 1921, in Edna and had been employed, at the time of his death, as a printer in Port Lavaca. He had previously been employed as a printer at the Edna Herald. Edna—Felix Guevara, 73, of Edna died Thursday in a local hospital. A rosary will be read at 8 p. m. Friday in the Slavik Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday at St. Agnes Catholic Church here with the Rev. Joe Hybner officiating. Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery. Mr. Guevara was born Aug. 6, 1909, in Beeville, and spent most of his life in Jackson County. He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Agnes Church. He is survived by his wife, Cora, of Edna; three daughters, Eloisa Hernandez, Margarita Hernandez and Linda Gonzales, all of Edna; three sons, Felix, Johnny and Danny, all of Edna; a sister, Maria Barrientos of San Benito; a brother, Joe Guevara, of Palacios; and 13 grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jessie and Johnny Rivers, Sammy, Jessie and Lucie Hernandez and Oscar Canales.

Edna—Manuel P. “Black Widow” Gutierres, 71, of Edna died Saturday, March 1, 1997. He was born Oct. 30, 1925, in Jackson County to the late Francisco and Adella Perez Gutierres. He was an industrial spray painter. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 11 years, and was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during World War II. Mr. Gutierres was a member of the National Guard in Jackson County and of St. Agnes Catholic Church. Survivors: wife, Ernestine Gutierres; daughters, Olga Margeson of Edna, Irma Zamora and Wanda Hernandez, both of Houston; sons, Manuel Gutierres Jr. and Thomas Gutierres , both of Victoria, Daniel Gutierres of Port Lavaca, Ismael Gutierres of La Ward, Juan Gutierres of San Antonio and Ernest Gutierres of Corpus Christi; sisters, Estolia Rivera and Teresa Garcia Palacios, both of Victoria, and Linda Ramirez of Edna; brothers, Amos Henry Gutierres, Jim Gutierres and Frank Gutierres all of Victoria; 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: first wife, Paulina Martinez Gutierres; sister, Frances Gutierres; and brothers, Gonzalo Gutierres and Pedro Gutierres.
