Edna—Funeral services will be held Wednesday for Charles E. Fox, 58, of LaWard, who died Sunday in a Houston hospital. Mr. Fox, was born May 6, 1915, in Bloomington and had resided most of his life in Jackson County. He had been employed in the maintenance department of the Industrial Independent School District for the past 16 years. Services will be held at 3 p. m. from the Lolita Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond A. Quick, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Edna Cemetery under the direction of Jackson County Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Arthur White, Jack Anders, Clarence McFeron, Jimmy Trojack, Bill Hoskin and J. B. Sutton.

Lolita—Ruth Fitzpatrick Fox, 82, of Lolita, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001. She was born Nov. 22, 1919, in Bloomington, to the late James and Caroline Carlton Fitzpatrick. She was a retired cafeteria worker at Industrial ISD and a member of Lolita Baptist Church. Survivors: daughters, Delores Terrell of Edna and Shirley Melvin of Victoria; son, James Fox of Alexandria, Va.; brother, Johnny Devone Fitzpatrick of Edna; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p. m. Saturday at Oaklawn Funeral Home chapel. Services will be 2 p. m. Sunday at the funeral home chapel, with Mitch Thrower officiating. Edna—John Foxell, 85, of Edna, died Feb. 9, 2010 in Edna. He was born in Hope on Jan. 25, 1925 to the late Oscar F. and Estell Bishop Foxell. He was an ensign in the US Navy in WWII, retired from Mobil and Alcoa and was a member of First Baptist Church of Edna. He enjoyed gardening and ranching. He is survived by his wife, Gwen Foxell of Edna; daughters, Sandra Shutt and husband John and Paula Cranek and husband Les, all of Edna; stepchildren, Emily McWaters and husband Pete of Minnesota, Natalie Sebald and husband Mike of Wisconsin, Nancy Johse and husband Kerry of Wharton, Frank Priour and wife Laura of Austin; brothers, Ray Ford Foxell of Hope; and sister, Mary Jean Witte of Temple. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and 10 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Pauline Page Foxell; and brothers, Bobby Joe and Douglas Wayne Foxell. Visitation will be held from 3 – 6 p. m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, at Slavik Funeral Chapel in Edna. Funeral services are at 2 p. m. on Sunday, Feb. 14, at First Baptist Church of Edna with Rev. Danny Reeves officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens of Edna Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Frank Priour, John Spring, Mark Shutt, Michael Foxell, Douglas Lee Foxell, Derrick Elliott, Kenneth Koop and Lee Cranek. Honorary pallbearers are O. C. Edna—Funeral services for Mrs. Pauline Foxell, 47, of Edna will be held at 2:30 p. m. Monday at First Baptist Church here, with the Rev. Joe Webb officiating. Burial will be in Memory Garden cemetery of Edna under direction of Slavik Funeral Home. Mrs. Foxell was born Sept. 5, 1929 in Lavaca County. She died Saturday in a local hospital. She had been in ill health for some time. Surviving are the mother, Mrs. Jake Page of Edna; the husband, John T. Foxell of Edna; two daughters, Sandra Kay and Paula Sue Spring, both of Edna; two brothers, Wayne Page of Edna and Jack Page of Victoria; two sisters, Mrs. George Hermes and Mrs. Maxine Carroll, both of Edna, and a grandchild.

Victoria—George Robert Frazier, 88, of Victoria, formerly of Edna, passed away on May 18, 2008. He was born in Muncie, Ill. on July 21, 1918, the youngest child of the late George Monroe and Sarah Elizabeth Frazier. He graduated from Danville High School, Danville, Ill. He served in the United States Army from 1942 until his discharge in 1944. He graduated from Eastern Illinois State College with a bachelor’s degree and completed his Masters of Education degree from the University of Houston. He was a teacher, coach and principal with the Edna Independent School District. He also was the football announcer for the Edna Cowboys for over 20 years. He left the education field to go into the insurance business and worked for American Amicable Insurance Company until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Edna Rotary Club. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Edna since 1947 where he served as a Sunday school teacher and a Deacon. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nell Stell Frazier; son, Robert Stell Frazier; brothers, Virgil and Ortha Frazier; sisters, Roberta Clark, Mildred Wright, Mabel Watson, and Lois Parker. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 21, from 6 – 8 p. m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 22, at 2 p. m. in the First Baptist church of Edna, Rev. Danny Reeves officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens of Edna Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Bonnot, Carlos Ed Bonnot, Joey Bonnot, Weldon Bonnot, Henry “Buzzy” Whitley, Jr., and Roy Charles Ortolon. Honorary Pallbearers are the Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Edna. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Edna or donor’s choice.

Nellie “Nell” Norine Frazier, 87, of Victoria, formerly of Edna, died Saturday, June 3, 2006. She was born July 27, 1918, in Edna, to the late James C. and Geneva Hesse Stell. She graduated from Bay City High School and the Durham Business College. She worked as a secretary with the F. B. I. in Washington, D. C., during World War II under J. Edgar Hoover. She was an Assistant County Auditor for Jackson County and retired as a bookkeeper with the Edna Independent School District in 1987. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Edna and served as Sunday School Teacher, YWA Leader, Secretary, and Church Librarian. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Jackson County and Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by her husband, George R. Frazier. Preceded in death by: son, Robert Frazier; parents; sister, Jessie Stell; brothers, James Stell, Charles Stell and Travis Stell. Pallbearers: Carlos Ed Bonnot, Joey Bonnot, David Stell, Daniel Stell, Troy Stell, Kevin Buendel and Clinton Smith. Honorary Pallbearers: Joe Bonnot, Harold Bonnot, Weldon Bonnot, Pablo Negreta, John Stell, David Stell, Charles Koenig, J. V. Hayes, Edward Brown. Services will be 10 a. m. Houston—Robert Stell Frazier, 36, of Houston, formerly of Edna, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1992. He was born Dec. 10, 1956 in Ganado to George R. and Nell S. Frazier of Edna. He was a teacher at Johnson Elementary School in the Aldine Independent School District. He was a Baptist. Services: 2 p. m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church of Edna, the Rev. Joe Webb officiating. Burial: Memory Gardens of Edna, Jackson County Funeral Service, Edna, 782-5201. Pallbearers: John Charles Stell, David Wayne Stell, Charles T. Edna—Mrs. Carl Freeman, a well known and highly respected resident of the New Sutherland school section, was instantly killed by lightning Monday afternoon about 6 o’clock. She was driving up her turkeys and her husband was working in the field nearby when she was killed, but found her a few minutes later lying face downward not far from the house. She was dead when found. There had been threatening weather all afternoon. Showers, accompanied by some lightning and thunder, had fallen in various sections of the county all day Monday. However, there had not been any unusual display of lightning. The bolt that killed Mrs. Freeman did not harm the turkeys that were being driven home nor did it strike anything else in the vicinity. The funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Ganado Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock. Interment was made in the Edna Cemetery.—Herald

Funeral services were held last Saturday morning at St. Agnes Church for Cornell Lee French, 64, of Waco. Rev. B. J. Janacek officiated, with interment in the Edna Cemetery. Mr. French, a former resident of Jackson County, was born Feb. 22, 1897 in Beaumont, and was a retired rice farmer. He died March 3, in Waco, after an illness of two years. He is survived by his stepfather, H. F. Sterling of Edna, and a half-sister, Mrs. Ed Duenow of Lolita.

Edna—Lula M. Freund, 102, lifelong resident of Jackson County, died Tuesday at her residence after a lengthy illness. A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Wednesday at the Slavik Funeral Home chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a. m. Thursday at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna with the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating. Burial will be in Memory of Gardens Cemetery in Edna under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home. She was born Dec. 26, 1887, on the Lu McHenry Ranch in Jackson County, to the late Lu McHenry and Ruth Adkisson McHenry. She was the last surviving grandchild or John McHenry, an original land grant settler of Jackson County. She was reared in Jackson County and attended St. Mary’s Convent School in Victoria in her early years. She was a ballroom dancing school instructor in Cuero, Yoakum and Victoria. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Freund on Sept. 12, 1963; a son, McHenry Weatherly on Dec. 26, 1932; and two sisters, Dora Fuqua and Mary Lee. Pallbearers will be McHenry Lee, Robert E. Lee III, Burr Stafford, Harrison Stafford II and Scott Tobin. Honorary pallbearers will be Dub Lee, Burrjed Stafford, Will Ulbricht, P. J. Ulbricht, Adam Ulbricht and Cole Pelham.

Edna—Sidney Freund, 75, died Thursday at his home in San Antonio. Funeral services will be held here Sunday at 11 a. m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with burial in the Edna Cemetery. The Rev. Stanley Petru will officiate with Slavik Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Dr. R. E. Lee Jr., Pete Layden, Harrison Stafford, McHenry Lee, Robert E. Lee III and Harrison Stafford II. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lula Freund of San Antonio; a sister, Miss Martha Freund of New York City.

Marjorie Fuqua, 90, born January 30, 1920, died Saturday, August 19, 2000, in Houston. Marjorie was raised in Edna, Texas, and graduated with honors from the University of Texas in Austin. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and Phi Beta Kappa. Marjorie began her career as a geologist with Humble Oil (now Exxon) in 1934 and continued there until her retirement in 1972. She was a resident of Bellaire, Texas, for many years and later of Missouri City, Texas, where she had owned property since the 1940’s. There she engaged in her two avocations, raising quarter horses and creating and running her wholesale plant nursery, Green Mansions Nursery. Marjorie, the great granddaughter of pioneers of Jackson County, Texas, was also a ninth-generation descendant of early settlers on the James River in Virginia. She was the daughter of Dora Ruth McHenry and Charles Kirk Fuqua. She is preceded in death by her beloved sister, Chick Woodruff. She is survived by her nieces, Bonnie Roberts Tobin and Carol Roberts; great nephew, Michael Scott Tobin; nephew-in-law, Leonard Tobin; brother-in-law, Frank S. Woodruff, Sr.; and nephew, Sands Woodruff and family. She is also survived by dear cousins in Edna and Dallas, Texas and Tennessee, and many loving friend, including her very special caregivers Norma Gaddie, Grace Prince, and Adele Scott, and the residents and staff of Westbury Retirement Center. Her family wishes to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff at Memorial/Hermann SW United 8D for their loving care. Marjorie was a vital, intelligent, generous person. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Active pallbearers will be Michael Scott Tobin, Leonard J. Tobin, Wesley C. Starbuck, F. Sands Woodruff, Jr., Harrison Stafford II, Dr. Robert E. Lee, III. Honorary pallbearers will be Harrison Stafford, Sr., Burr Stafford, and Dr. McHenry Lee. The family will receive friends at the Earthman Bellaire Chapel, 6700 Ferris on Wednesday, August 23, 2000, from 4 until 7 p. m. Funeral services: 11 a. m. Thursday, August 24, 2000 Trinity Episcopal Church, 102 West Church Street, Edna, Texas. Interment: Memory Gardens, Edna, Texas. The Reverend Brice G. Cox, of St. George’s and St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, Houston, will officiate.
