Alma Edwards

Edna—Alma Edwards, 90, of Edna died Monday, March 28, 1994.

She was born Jan. 2, 1904, in Edna to Fred and Mary Hines Edwards. She was a retired housekeeper and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

Survivors: son, Charles Williams of Baltimore, Md.; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 1 p. m. Friday, Shiloh Baptist Church, the Rev. G. L. Roberts officiating.

Burial: Sayles Cemetery, Cook-Butler Funeral Home, Edna, 782-3821.

Pallbearers: Everett Bryant, Jordan Brooks, Hillery Edwards, Lincoln Edwards, James Loyal Robinson and Bernard Holcomb.

Anthony L. Edwards

 

Anthony L. Edwards, of Ganado , passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at the age of 45. He was born on Oct. 1, 1971, in Ganado to A. B. Jones and the late Cheryl Edwards.

 

Anthony was a loving father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend who will be dearly missed.

 

He is survived by his fathers, James B. Edwards (Andrea), A.B. Jones; son, Marquez Riser; sister, Renise Edwards and Ophelia Jones; brothers, Jerome Jones (Nartarsha) and Darrell Jones; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 

Anthony is preceded in death by his mother, Cheryl Callis Edwards.

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service to be held on Saturday, May 20, at noon in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel of Edna. Burial to follow in the Ganado Community Cemetery in Ganado.

Charles Edwards

Edna—Funeral services for Charles A. Edwards, 81, of Edna, who died at 2:30 p. m. Friday in a local hospital following a short illness, will be at 2 p. m. Monday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Edna with the Rev. Gary Edwards officiating.

Burial, with military services under the auspices of the Goliad American Legion, will follow in the Sayles Cemetery in Edna.

He was born Feb. 22, 1908 in Edna, son of the late Fred and Mary Hines Edwards. A life-time resident of Edna, he was a plumber for 20 years. He attended church and public school in Edna.

He married in the former Betty Howard on Sept. 29, 1970 in Yoakum.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Jean Howard Edwards of Edna; a sister, Alma Edwards of Edna; three sons; a foster son; and a foster daughter.

Pallbearers will be Horace Butler, Julio Espinosa, Freddy Edwards, Neil Ramey Jr., Jimmy Franklin and Lincoln Edwards.

Arrangements are under the direction of K. C. McDaniels Funeral Home of Victoria, 602 N. Navarro.

Miss Clarene Edwards

Edna--Miss Clarene Edwards, 54, native of Jackson County, died Monday in a Ganado hospital after a long illness.

She was born Sept. 8, 1914.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. R. A. Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Sayles Cemetery under direction of the Cook Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be in charge of Sedahila Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.

Miss Edwards was the daughter of the late Sayles Edwards.

Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Flossie Thompson, and her step-father, Henry Thompson, of Edna.

Hurley Edwards

Edna—Hurley “Ludie” Edwards, 74, of Edna, died Friday in a Victoria hospital following a long illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at Scruggs Chapel United Methodist Church of Edna with the Rev. Maurice Washington, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in Sayles Cemetery under direction of Cook-Butler Funeral Home.

Mr. Edwards was born in Jackson County Dec. 20, 1910, to Louis and Donna Edwards. He was a retired laborer and member of Scruggs Chapel United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Nora Edwards of Edna.

Nora V. Edwards

Edna—Nora V. Edwards, 87, of Edna died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000.

She was born Jan. 9, 1913 in Jackson County, to the late Sam Martin and Rosie Lee Smith. She owned and operated Martin Barbecue Pit. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Edna.

Survivors: sisters, Stella Jones, Julia Franklin and Danna Bradley, all of Edna.

Preceded in death by: husband, Hurley Edwards; sisters, Carrie Ramey and Celestine Martin; and brothers, Jessie Martin and Miliam Martin.

Visitation will be 1 – 5 p. m. today at the Seaside Funeral Home in Corpus Christi.

Services will be 1 p. m. Thursday at Shiloh Mission Baptist Church.

Burial will be at Sayles Cemetery. Seaside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, Corpus Christi, 992-9411.

Mrs. Susie Ehart

Ganado—Mrs. Susie (Mama Susie) Ehart, 77, of Ganado died Saturday in a Columbus hospital.

Funeral services will be at 1 p. m. Thursday at the Scruggs United Methodist Church with the Rev. J. C. Williams officiating. Burial will be in Sayles Cemetery under direction of Cook-Butler Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Ranier, Cecil, James, Dewey, Ameal, Ben and Albert Brigham.

Mrs. Ehart was born Feb.14, 1901 at Greenville.

Surviving are her husband, Ervin Ehart of Ganado; two sons, B. F. Henry of Edna and C. Henry of San Francisco, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Gertha Lee Storey of Terrell and Mrs. Edna Brown and Mrs. Leona Parson of Edna; brother, John Brigham; and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

William A. Ehlert

Lolita—William August Ehlert, 78, of Lolita, died Sunday, June 19, 2005.

He was born May 31, 1927, in Houston, to the late August and Nola Neiman Ehlert. He was a retired metal caster for Alcoa Aluminum Corp. and a member of Vanderbilt Church of Christ.

Survivors: wife, Lillian Venglar Ehlert; daughters, Merry Lahti of Tulsa, Okla. and Marty Ehlert of Houston; stepdaughter, Lisa Stancliff of El Campo; sons, Michael Ehlert of El Campo and Mark Ehlert of Lynnwood, Wash.; step-son, Johnny Henderson of Lolita; 10 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: sisters, Dorothy Lawrence and Sybil Roberts; brothers, Johnny Ehlert, David Ehlert, and Everett Ehlert; and a step-granddaughter.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p. m. today at Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 10 a. m. Wednesday at Vanderbilt Church of Christ, Mr. Robert Willis officiating.

Vernon D. Elder

Edna--Vernon Douglas Elder, 76, of Edna died Monday, Jan. 15, 1996.

He was born May 22, 1919, in Coleman to the late Vanden Doris and Pearl Hobbins Elder. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, having received the Four Bronze Star, American Defense Ribbon, Distinguished Unit Badge, Europe Middle East Service Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. He was an iron and steel worker.

Survivors: sister, Beatrice Elder Rodgers of Morales and brothers, Hoyt Wayne Elder of Rosenberg and Byron Elder of Portland.

Services will be held at 3 p. m. today at Morales Baptist Church, the Rev. Joe Rubac officiating.

Burial will be at Moore Cemetery in Morales, Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 782-2152.

Charles F. Elliott
March 03, 1943 - March 08, 2017

Charles F. Elliott, of Edna, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the age of 74. He was born on March 3, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas to the late Alvin Elliott and Elida Morris Elliott Dillard.

Charles was a very loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and true friend who will be dearly missed.

Charles is survived by his wife Debra Kay Elliott; daughters, Megan Elliott, Victoria Elliott, and Julie Elliott Hoss; son, Clifford Elliott; step-son, Jason Creasy (Brandy); sisters, Kay Thurman and Sue Board; brothers, Jimmie Elliott and Ted Dillard; grandchildren, Aubrey Spinks, Bailey Spinks, Jonah Creasy, and Micah Creasy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents Charles is preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Dillard; brothers, Doyle Elliott, Dick Dillard, Gary Dillard, and Billy Elliott.

Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017, 12:00 P.M. in the Bischoff Cemetery.

Eva Elliott

Edna—Eva Stafford Elliott, 79, of Edna, died Thursday in San Antonio after a short illness.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. Saturday at Scruggs United Methodist Church in Edna.

Burial will follow in the Chase Cemetery in Morales under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

She was born Feb. 8 1911, in Jackson County to the late Munson and Eva Duncan Stafford.

Mrs. Elliott was a businesswoman, a member of Scruggs United Methodist Church, and a member of Eastern Star.

Surviving are a son, Roy Munson Elliott of San Antonio; a brother, Loyal Stafford of Edna; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be James D. Harris, Calvin Haynes, Hershell Callis, Jordan Brooks, Robert Foley, and Edward Stafford

Honorary pallbearers will be trustees and communion stewards of Scruggs United Methodist Church, and members of Sedahlia Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 280.

San Antonio—Roy Munson Elliott, age 83, of San Antonio, died Thursday, September 24, 2015, after a brief illness. He was born January 1, 1932, in Morales, Jackson County, TX, to the late Eva Stafford Elliott and Roy L. Elliott.

Graveside Memorial services will be at 11:00 a. m. on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Chase Cemetery in Morales, Texas.

Walter H. Elliott Jr.

Walter H. Elliott Jr., 72, of Ganado, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2018. He was born in Corpus Christi on Friday, October 5, 1945 to Walter Harlan Elliott, Sr., and Billie Naomia Ray Elliott.

Walter worked for Union Pacific Rail Road as a Bridge Supervisor for 32 years.

Walter is survived by his wife; Shirley Sless Elliott, their children; Trisha Elliott. Stacey Elliott, Wendy Freeman, Shawn Elliott, Travis Elliott, and Wesley Miller, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also his sister; Linda Frederick, and brother; Jim Elliott.

Walter is preceded in death by his mother and father, his son, Terry Elliott; and sisters, Kathy Fleming and Mary Frances Maciel.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Ganado Funeral Home Chapel.     In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to M. Daniel Ellis II

Lolita—Funeral services for Daniel Douglas Ellis II, 18, of Lolita, who died Friday at noon when his pickup truck and a train collided in Moody, Texas, will be held at 2 p. m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Lolita. The Rev. Roy Meadows of Katy and Alvin Kight, pastor of the Jesus Church in Victoria, will officiate.

Burial will be in the Red Bluff Cemetery near Lolita. Colonial Funeral Home of Victoria is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Dec. 7, 1970, in Victoria. He would have been a senior this fall at Industrial High School in Vanderbilt. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Daniel D. and Nancy Ellis of Lolita; his mother, Lisa Matejek Franklin of Corpus Christi; a sister, Candy Michelle Ellis of Lolita; two brothers, Jimmy and Vernon Ellis of Lolita; a grandmother, Ary Ellis of Bloomington; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Matejek of Corpus Christi; and step-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James “Rip” Carter of Cuero.

Pallbearers will be Charlie, Walter and David Beaver, Johnny Hasserodt, Alfred Newman and James Saski.

Uncles will be honorary pallbearers.

Brandon Wade Ellison

Edna—Brandon Wade Ellison of Edna passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the age of 24. He was born on June 23, 1984, in Edna, to the late Velma Ann Tompkins Ellison.

Brandon is survived by his brothers, Darren Ellison and wife Julie of Ganado, and Raymond “Trey” Ellison III of Victoria; aunt, Joan Groves of Edna; cousins, Shelly Miller and Leslie Pesek, both of Edna; and niece and nephew, Emily and Gabriel, both of Ganado. He is also survived by lots of family, friends and loved ones.

Brandon was preceded in death by his mother.

Visitation will be 5 – 7 p. m. today, April 20, in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday, April 21, in Red Bluff Cemetery of Lolita. The Rev. George Tompkins will be officiating.

Donations are being accepted at Oaklawn Funeral Home to help defray funeral expenses.

Flora Elizabeth Ellison
August 17, 1927 - November 06, 2014

Flora Elizabeth Wells Ellison "Libby" went to be with the Lord, November 6, 2014. She died at home in Fredericksburg. 

She was born in Edna, Texas, August 17, 1927. She attended Texas State College for Women before it became TWU. She married Floyd Ellison April 22, 1950. She invested her life in people, loved learning and gave the best Christmas Eve parties. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, Dr. Robert Wells and Marjorie Patterson Wells, and all five of her older siblings. 

She is survived by her son George Ellison and three daughters all of Fredericksburg. Her daughters and families include Suzanne Ellison- Ramsay and son-in-law John, Catherine Scholl and son-in-law Mark, and Patricia Kitzmiller, and son-in-law, Thom. 

She has ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and counting. 

Visitation in Fredericksburg will be from 5-8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7th at Schaetter's Funeral Home. Visitation in Edna will be in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel from 4-6 pm, on Saturday, November 8th. The funeral service will be on November 9 in the Trinity Episcopal Church in Edna at 3 p.m. 

Memorial gifts may be made to Lamb's Tale Ministries, Heritage School, Fredericksburg Christian School or Hill Country Memorial Hospice.

Richard Arlen Ellison

Richard Arlen Ellison, of Edna, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the age of 78. He was born on Aug. 6, 1938 in Edna to the late Raymond Marvin Ellison and Iva Lee Roberts Ellison.

Richard proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1959. He retired from the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1993 after 36 years of service and was a Patron-level Life Member of the National Rifle Association. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather who will be deeply missed.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Hazel LaVerne Wilkerson Ellison; daughter, Terri Lynn Hicks; son, Ronald Wayne Ellison and his wife Chris; sister, Mary Nell Tomas; brother, Raymond Marvin Ellison, Jr.; grandchildren, Misty Nicole Wells, Jeremy Wayne Hicks and his wife Amanda; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his sister, Anna Mae Ellison.

Graveside service was Sunday, June 4 at 2 p.m. in the Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Gayle Engelmohr

 

Gayle Lynn Boedeker Engelmohr, 57, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 11, 1018. She was born on Aug. 20, 1961 to George Jr. and Margaret Boedeker in Victoria.

 

Gayle is survived by her daughters Britni Engelmohr, Maci Merta, and Sydni Engelmohr; three grandsons; mother, Margaret Boedeker; sister, Eunice Boedeker; brother, Lloyd Boedeker; sister, Christine Joslin; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

 

Gayle is preceded in death by her husband, Gary Lee Engelmohr; dad, George Authur Boedeker, Jr.; and son, Gary Engelmohr, Jr.

 

Visitation was October 13, at Wheeler Funeral Home in El Campo. A memorial service was October 14 at First Baptist Church in Ganado.

 

At the request of the family, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church Ganado, Jackson County Youth Fair or Hospice of South Texas or LaWard 4-H Rifle Club.

Jose V. Escamilla

Edna—Jose Villanueva Escamilla, 60, of Edna died Thursday in an Edna hospital following a sudden illness.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Saturday at the Slavik Funeral Home chapel in Edna.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p. m. Sunday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael O’Shaugnessy, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Mr. Escamilla was born Jan. 21, in Jackson County. He was a lifetime resident of Ganado and was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Holloway Construction Co. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Carolina. The couple married June 19, 1949, in Edna.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, are his mother, Agustina Villanueva Escamilla of Houston; two daughters, Gloria Harrison of Carrizo Springs and Delia Ballin of Zapata; a son, Albert Escamilla of Bloomington: two sisters, Martha Mauro and Sarah Ramirez, both of Pasadena; two brothers, Sam Escamilla of Houston and Benny Escamilla of Pasadena; and 11 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jason and Jeffery Escamilla, Richard, Christopher and Rodney Cooper and
Oscar Villanueva.

Anita Espinosa

Edna—Anita B. Espinosa, 64, of Edna died Tuesday in El Campo following a short illness.

A native of Jackson County, she was born July 26, 1924, in Inez, daughter of the late Manuel and Antonia Perez Basquez. A Catholic, she was a homemaker and a member of Crucista.

She married Guadalupe Espinosa on April 30, 1939, in Edna. He preceded her in death in 1964.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Thursday at Slavik Funeral Home chapel in Edna.

Funeral mass will be at 2 p. m. Friday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Surviving are three daughters, Eloisa Joyce Mendez, Louisa Vicky Lopez and Rita Falcon, all of El Campo; two sons, Lupe Espinosa Jr. of Edna and Eugene Espinosa of Houston; a brother, Manuel Basquez of Bay City; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mickey, Albert and Tracy Trevino, Roy Lopez, and Timmy and Aaron Espinosa.

Guadalupe “Lupe” Espinosa Jr.

Guadalupe “Lupe” Espinosa Jr., was born Oct. 10, 1942, in Edna, son of the late Lupe Espinosa Sr. and Anita Basquez Espinosa. At the time of the death he was an insurance agent for American General Life and Accident Insurance Co. Prior to that he worked for Southern Life and Health Insurance Co.

A longtime resident of Jackson County, he was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He married the former Anita Pena on Sept. 25, 1964, in Ganado.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Sunday at Slavik Funeral Home chapel in Edna.

Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Joe Hybner of Victoria officiating.

Burial will follow in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Surviving are his wife, Anita Espinosa of Edna; two daughters, Yvonne Marie Espinosa and Monica Espinosa, both of Edna; three sons, Timothy Espinosa, Aaron James Espinosa, and Matthew Christopher Espinosa, all of Edna; a brother, Eugene Espinosa of Houston; and three sisters, Eloisa Mendez, Louisa “Vicky” Lopes and Rita Falcon, all of El Campo.

Guadalupe Barrera Espinosa

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at St. Agnes Catholic Church for Guadalupe Barrera Espinosa, 43, of Edna.

Espinosa was a native of Edna and lived at 508 East Washington. He was the father of five children, and was employed by the Point Comfort Railroad.

A Rosary was held at Slavik Funeral Home at 8 p. m. Tuesday. Services then were held there at 9:15 a. m. Wednesday, and final services at 9:30 a. m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with Rev. Stanley Petru officiating.

Burial was in the Edna Latin Cemetery, under direction of Slavik Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Jesse Gonzales, Valentin Martinez, Ralph Gonzales, Frank Benavides, Lee Manzanales, John Rodriguez and Frank Mata.

Mr. Espinosa was born January 24, 1921, in Jackson County, and was a member of St. Agnes Church.

He is survived by his wife, Anita, of Edna; two sons, Guadalupe and Eugene, both of Edna; three daughters, Mrs. Louisa Lopez of Madisonville, and Mrs. Elisa Joyce Trevino and Rita Sota Espinosa, both of Edna; a brother, Tony Espinosa of San Antonio, and by four grandchildren

Julia Espinosa

Edna—Julia Espinosa, 83, of Edna, died Friday, June 18, 1999.

She was born March 17, 1916, in Seguin, to the late Jacinto Pena and Luciana Benavidez Arroyos. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters.

Survivors: daughters, Olaya Salas and Dora Arambula, both of Victoria, Lydia Crafton of Edna, Wally Castaneda of Inez and Sophie Castilow of Dallas; sons, Roland Espinosa and Julio Espinosa, both of Edna; brother, Edward Arroyos of Bloomington; 23 grandchildren;  and 21 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: husband, Julio Garza Espinosa; sister, Juanita Suniga; brother, Jacinto Arroyos; and one grandchild.

Julio Espinosa

Edna—Julio Garza Espinosa, 57, of Edna, died Friday in a Ganado hospital.

A farmer and a resident of Jackson County all of his life, Mr. Espinosa was born Nov. 17, 1910, in Edna.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 8:45 a. m. at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel and at 9 a. m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Stanley Petru officiating. Burial will be in the Edna Latin Cemetery.

A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p. m. Sunday at the funeral home chapel.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Julia Espinosa, and his mother, Mrs. Catarina Espinosa, both of Edna;  five daughters, Misses Dora and Lydia Espinosa of Edna, Mrs. Oloya Salas of Victoria, and Mrs. Whalley Tamez and Mrs. Ophelia Costilow of Houston; two sons, Roland and Julio Espinosa Jr. of Edna; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Farias of Tivoli, Mrs. Kate Salinas of Bloomington, Mrs. Olivia Garcia of Edcouch and Mrs. Georgia Galindo of Lamesa and two brothers, Albert and Lucio Espinosa of Edna.

Lucio Espinosa

Edna—Lucio Espinosa, who would have been 70 years old Thursday, died Wednesday in a Houston hospital from a broken neck suffered Sunday at his home at El Toro.

A retired farmer, Mr. Espinosa was playing with his grandchildren and as he was throwing a ball he lost his balance causing the back of his neck to strike the bumper of his pickup truck. He was taken to Mauritz Memorial-Jackson County Hospital in Ganado, then he was transferred to a Houston hospital.

Mr. Espinosa was born May 21, 1902, in Jackson County where he had been a life-long resident. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Friday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with burial in Edna Latin American Cemetery under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home. The body will lie in state at the church from 9 a. m. until time of the services.

A Rosary will be recited at 8 p. m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Eva Cisneros of Edna and Mrs. Lucia Donaho of Alice; four sisters, Mrs. Katherine Salinas of Bloomington, Mrs. Maria Farias of Tivoli, Mrs. Olivia Garcia of Edcouch and Mrs. Georgia Galindo of Lamesa; a brother, Albert Espinosa of Edna; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Francisco Espinoza

Edna—Francisco Espinoza, 59, of Edna, passed away Friday, April 25, 2008. He was born on Jan. 2, 1949, to the late Joe Espinoza Sr. and Salome Castro Espinoza.

Francisco is survived by his wife, Ruby Garza Espinoza; daughters, Lucy Espinoza of Victoria, Naomi E. Jacinto and husband Hector of Edna, Dora E. Gonzalez and husband Able of Bay City; sisters, Lidia Aragon of Victoria and Alicia Rodriguez of Houston; brothers, Joe Espinoza, Jr., Lupe Espinoza, Rudy Espinoza, and Robert Espinoza, all of Victoria. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sara Lisa Gonzalez, Sebastian Lee Gonzalez, Syrena Jae Villela, Summer Rae Villela, and Gideon Charl Jacinto; aunt and uncle, Albert and Eva Pena; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Francisco was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Visitation services will be from 6 – 7 p. m. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p. m. on Monday, April 28, in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a. m., Tuesday, April 29, in the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna. Interment will follow in the Edna Latin American Cemetery. The Rev. Michael Petering will be officiating.

Pallbearers will be Joe Espinoza III, Jerry Espinoza, Julian Espinoza, Gabriel Garza, Elijah Garza, Tommy Garza Jr., Joe Ramirez Jr., and Wesley Escobar.

Honorary pallbearers will be all of Francisco’s grandchildren and Rubin Espinoza.

Ruby Garza Espinoza
February 05, 1953 - November 13, 2015

Ruby Garza Espinoza, of Edna, Texas went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 13, 2015, at the age of 62. She was born February 5, 1953, in Ganado, Texas, to the late Domingo and Maria Cruz Garza. 

Ruby worked as a homemaker for many years. She loved to spend time with her family and friends. Ruby was a loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt and friend who will be missed dearly. 

She is survived by her mother, Maria Cruz Garza; daughters; Lucy Espinoza of Victoria, Naomi E. Jacinto (Hector) of Edna, Dora E. Gonzalez (Jason Rendon) of Victoria; sisters, Dominga Salazar (Raymond) of Bay City and Esther Ortiz (Stanley) of Austin; brothers, Juan Domingo Garza (Esmeralda) of Houston, Tommy Garza, Sr. (Elizabeth) of Bay City, Armando Berrera (Stephanie) of Houston, Pascual Salinas of Edna; longtime companion, Adan Castro of Edna; grandchildren, Sara Lisa Gonzalez, Sebastian Lee Gonzalez, Syrena Jae Villela, Summer Rae Villela, and Gideon Charl Jacinto; numerous nieces and nephews and many loving family members and friends. 

Ruby is preceded in death by her father; husband, Francisco Espinoza. 

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 16, 2015 from 5~7 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna. Reverend Michael Petering will be officiating. Burial to follow at Latin American Cemetery in Edna.

Robert "Robbie" C. Estrada, Jr.

Robert "Robbie" C. Estrada, Jr. 41, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 5. He was born on Jan. 24, 1975 in Ganado, to Robert C. Estrada, Sr. and Laura "Frieda" Riojas Estrada. Robbie attended 2 years at the Culinary Art Institute, he was currently working for Inteplast in Lolita.

Robbie is survived by his parents, his sisters Erica Lynn Estrada and Laurie Brooks Estrada, his brothers Eric R. Estrada and Garrett Erin Estrada; also by his grandmother Shirley C. Estrada.

Robbie is preceded in death by his grandparents Mike Riojas, Sr. and Eloise Riojas, also his grandfather Arthur G. Estrada.

There will be a Celebration Of Life Service on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 10 a.m. at Ganado Funeral Home Chapel.

Services Are Held Here on Saturday For Mrs. Estrello

Funeral services were held at St. Agnes Church Saturday morning for Mrs. Feliciana Rodriguez Estrello, 84, a resident of Jackson County since 1920. Rev. Robert Walden, of the Vanderbilt Catholic Church, officiated and interment was in the Edna Cemetery.

Mrs. Estrello was born Oct. 20, 1877 in Miery Noriega, Nueve Leon, Mexico and moved to Texas in 1916. She resided on Route One near Edna, and passed away Feb. 16 in the hospital in Ganado.

She is survived by four sons, Rafael Estrello of Edna, Victor Estrello of Ganado, Mauro Estrello of Vanderbilt and Arturo Estrello of Monterrey, Mexico; a sister, Juanita Costancia of Mexico; and three brothers, Ortillo, Emilio and Rudolpho Reus, all of Mexico.

Rafael Estrello

Edna—Funeral services for Rafael Estrello Sr., 75, of Edna will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday at the St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Jim Coindreau officiating. The body will be carried to the church at 1 p. m.

Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under direction of the Slavik Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Vincent and Gilbert Manzanalez and Ruben, Hector, Mario and Gilbert Cuellar.

Mr. Estrello, a retired farmer, was born May 11, 1900 in Mexico and came to Edna at the age of 12. He died Friday in a Victoria hospital.

Surviving are nine daughters, Mrs. Librado Manzanalez and Mrs. Elvira Cuellar of Edna; Mrs. Antonio Carrera and Mrs. Johnnie Adame of Port Lavaca; Mrs. Joe Silvas of Clute, Mrs. Gilbert Rodriguez of Ganado, Miss Carmen Estrello of Houston, and Miss Patsy Estrello and Miss Gloria Estrello of Edna; four sons, Heriberto of Mexico, Rafael Jr. of Monterrey, Mexico, Pete of Palacios and David of Houston; three brothers, Arturo of Monterrey, Mexico, Victor Sr. of Garland and Mauro of Lubbock; 39 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Emmitt Ralph Etlinger
August 19, 1939 - August 12, 2018

Emmitt Ralph Etlinger, of Edna, went to be with our Lord on August 12, 2018, at the age of 78. He was born in Ganado, Texas, on August 19, 1939 to the late Richard Henry Etlinger and Marie Prasek Etlinger.  

Emmitt started his career at Alcoa as a Jr. Accountant at the Point Comfort facility in the late 50’s. He was subsequently promoted and transferred to their California site where he quickly progressed into management. Throughout Emmitt’s career, he held various executive positions in several Fortune 500 companies and later started his own consultancy in 1977.  He retired in 2004.

Emmitt was first and foremost a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and a genuine friend. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Frances Gabrysch Etlinger; daughters, Renee Etlinger Lopez and Deborah Lynn Waits; son, Richard Scott Etlinger and his wife Melissa; sister, Billie Popp; grandchildren, Mallory Crabb, her husband Jess and future great-grandson (Jan 2019), Megan Parker and her husband Cody, Melissa Boudreau and her husband Aaron, Ashlyn Mellors, Ava Etlinger, Zachary Waits, Janelle Hufford and her husband Brad; great-grandchildren, Lexi Parker, Nolan Boudreau, Logan Boudreau, Lynlee Hufford, Callen Hufford; numerous nieces and nephews.

Emmitt is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Delaney Etlinger.  

Visitation was held Thursday, August 16, 2018, from 5-6:30P.M., with a Rosary at 6:30 P.M., in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. 

A funeral mass was 10:30 A.M., Friday, August 17, 2018, in the St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna, with the Rev. Michael Petering officiating. Burial followed in Memory Gardens Cemetery, followed by a reception in the Church hall.  

Pallbearers were Zachary Waits, Aaron Boudreau, Jess Crabb, Cody Parker, Brad Hufford, Glenn Gabrysch, Lee Gabrysch, Mark Popp, Bruce Popp, and Craig Popp.

Honorary pallbearers were Allen Gabrysch, Kent Gabrysch, Shawn Etlinger, Jonathon Popp and Jon Pearson.

Arrangements are under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna. 361-782-2221.

Mrs. Vera Everage, Former Resident, Is Buried Sunday

Funeral services for Mrs. Vera A. Everage, 62, of Houston, a former Jackson County resident, were held Sunday at 3 p. m. at the Lolita Baptist Church, with Rev. H. O. Bilderback officiating.

Burial was in the Red Bluff Cemetery, with Slavik Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Everage was born Sept. 21, 1901 in New Albany, Miss. She lived in this county from 1918 until 1931. She died April 9 in Brinkley, Ark.; after being struck by a car while crossing a street.

She is survived by her husband, Ira F. Everage of Houston; three sons, J. D. and C. B. Nowlin of Houston, and James W. Nowlin of Union Town, Ala., a brother, Col. James Browning in Okinawa; and three sisters, Mrs. Grover Klaus, Mrs. Beatrice McFeron and Mrs. Blanche Thedford, all of Lolita.

Theresa Everett

Sad and sudden came the call, so dearly loved by one and all. Her memory is as dear today as in the hour she passed away. Theresa JoAnn Everett, 84, died May 9, 2018. She was born Oct. 15, 1933 in Rosenberg, Texas to Anton A. and Mary Surovec Kaspar.   

Her mother died from childbirth complications where upon Theresa "JoAnn" was adopted by her uncle and aunt, John and Rosalie Kaspar Valigura. She graduated from Ganado High School in 1952 and later St. Mary's School of Nursing in Galveston in 1955. She had a 30-career of nursing in Galveston at St. Mary's Hospital, U.S. Public Health Hospital and UTMB hospitals.     

She formerly resided in Texas City and later for many years in Austin with her husband, Bill W. Everett. In 2013, JoAnn moved to El Campo to be nearer to family. She belonged to the St. Catherine of Siena Parish and the K of C Wives Club in Austin, also KJZT Fraternal.     

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill W. Everett; daughter Joanette Gonzales; brother Anton "Tony" Kaspar; sister Leona V. Flaig; and mother of her siblings Agnes L. Kaspar.     

JoAnn is survived by granddaughters Laina and Haley Gonzales, her son-in-law Mark Gonzales, all of Austin, and her sister-in-law Bobbie Everett. She is also survived by siblings Frances Vesely, Andrew Kaspar, Anges Schoppe, Marcus Kaspar, Loretta Janda and Daniel Kaspar, many cousins, nephews and nieces and dear friends.     

There was a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m., with Rosary at 6 p.m., on Thursday, May 10 at Ganado Funeral Home Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, May 11 at 10 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Ganado with Father Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Interment immediately followed at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Ganado.

Pallbearers were Nathan Kaspar, David Kaspar, Stephen Saha, Kenneth Kaspar, Travis Kaspar and Richard Carlson.     Services have been entrusted to Russell Todish of Ganado Funeral Home, 361-771-2120.
