evening in a Victoria hospital, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Wheeler
Funeral Chapel in El Campo. Survivors include five sisters, Mrs. Alma Lamkin, Mrs. Ella Ward and Mrs. Eunice Harrell, all of El Campo, Mrs. Nellie Rogers of Victoria and Mrs. Mattie Lee Redmon of Corpus Christi; two brothers, Roy Davenport of Inez and Duffy Davenport of Ganado.

Kenneth Alan Davis, 71, of West Columbia and formerly of Edna, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 in Sweeny, Texas. He was born on March 1, 1948 in Corvallis, Oregon to Jack and Valnarie (McMeans) Davis. Ken enjoyed his career as a reserve deputy sheriff and jail administrator for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and as an engineer at Mammoet for over 28 years. One of his life passions was his walk with God, serving the Edna, Texas and Freeport, Texas communities as a minister. In his off time, Ken could be found in his workshop working on small projects that he gave to anyone and everyone he met. But, spending quality time with his wife, children, and grandchildren gave him the fullest enjoyment throughout his life. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 6, at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia with Brother Leland Rodgers officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be his nieces and nephews. The family will be receiving friends between noon and 2 p.m. prior to the service also at the funeral home. Ken is survived by his wife, Kathy Davis; sons, John Davis and wife, Cynthia and William Davis; granddaughters, Genevieve Davis, Madelyn Davis, and Alyson Davis; siblings, Mickey Davis and wife, Barbara and Ann Davis Hall and husband, John; along with sister-in-law, Diane Davis. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry Davis; and son, Chris Alan Davis. Services are under the direction of Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia, (979) 345-3232. She was a health care provider at the Visiting Nurses Association and a Baptist. Survivors: sisters, Roena Holmes and Gertie M. Brown, both of El Campo; brother, Dave McGrue Jr. of Bay City. Preceded in death by: parents, sisters, Elizabeth Callis and Lady Mae Bennett; brother, Cecil McGrue. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p. m. Friday at Cook-Butler Funeral Home chapel. Adrian Alexander DeLeon,of Edna, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019, at the age of 22. He was born in Victoria, on January 28, 1997, to Derrick Ramos and Jennifer DeLeon Ramos. Adrian was a devoted son, father, husband, brother, grandson, great-grandson, uncle, nephew, and dear friend who had a big loving heart. He touched the lives of many and will be remembered for his genuine smile. His two sons were his world he loved them dearly. He was blessed to have his greatgrandmother, Nora DeLeon, in his life who he visited often, and they enjoyed meals together especially breakfast on weekends. Adrian enjoyed mudding and revving his truck, the outdoors, and fishing with his two brothers, Justin and Maleak, along with all the cherished memories and fishing experiences, he had with his great-grandfather “Chico.” Adrian was deeply adored by his parents, brothers, extended family, and sincere friends. Adrian will be truly missed but never forgotten. Adrian is survived by his loving sons, Xaine Aleczander and Brantley Leonardo DeLeon; parents, Derrick and Jennifer Ramos; wife, Giselle Morales DeLeon; grandparents, Johnny DeLeon, Margarette Wright, Rudy and Sandra Gonzales; great-grandmothers, Nora DeLeon and Guadalupe Ramos; brothers: Justin and Meleak Ramos; niece and nephew, Serenity Norman-Ramos and Lorenzo Ramos; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and amazing friends. Lt. Col. (Ret) James Mitchel Denard, Jr. (Jamie D.) was born on August 10, 1934, in Jackson County, Texas, to James Mitchell and Ruth Koop Denard. Jamie died at home on May 14, 2019. After graduating from Texas A&M, Jamie joined the Air Force and upon completing a two year combat training program as an F-104 fighter pilot, he was sent to Itazuke, Japan, where he met his future wife, Reiko Matsuyama (Bonnie). After his squadron was recalled to the United States during the Cuban missile crisis, he returned to Asia during the Vietnam War and flew 149 missions, once coming close to losing his life when his jet engines malfunctioned. During his 24 years as a fighter pilot, Jamie was stationed at many places on various assignments. One of the most memorable was when he was stationed in Canada in 1968 when he and Bonnie adopted their infant son, Marc Chance. Jamie and Bonnie were long time members of Christ Lutheran Church in Alamo Heights. Jamie was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, June Lane and Nancy McElroy. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son, Marc; grandson, Caleb Chance; sisters, Dorothy McCain (Johnny), Mary McFeron Putty, Sue Hilliard (Bohn), and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Special recognition and thanks to his longtime assistant and caregiver, Nori Figuroa, and to Bobby Stobb and many others from Christ Lutheran Church who ministered to him and Bonnie for many years of his life. A graveside service will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 10:30 am, Officiated by his good friend Chaplain Howard Stendahl. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a contribution to Christ Lutheran Church (6720 Broadway, SAT 78209) or to the charity of their choice.

Born Jan. 16, 1914, in Ganado, to the late Tommy and Carrie Oakmon Dennis, he had been a custodian at Citizens State Bank before his retirement. Edna—Major Douglas Dennis Sr., 54, died Friday morning in a local hospital following a sudden illness. Born Nov. 30, 1931 in Ganado, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Dennis Sr. Foreman of the water department for the city of Edna, he was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. GANADO - Tommy Dennis, 69, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Born an only child to Henry 'Buster' Dennis and Theresa Mae Johnson Dennis on February 27, 1947 in El Campo, Tex.. Tommy was a proud graduate of Washington Carver High School Class of 1965 in Edna, Tex.. Tommy worked most of his adult life at El Campo Aluminum in El Campo, Tex. where he worked in the plant, was union president, and ended his career as a long-haul truck driver. Tommy had a passion for race cars, fishing, photography, watching sports, cooking, fundraising for his alma mater or church, and collecting movies. Becoming a grandfather was his proudest accomplishment. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lydia Gonzales Dennis, a daughter, Thresa Dennis of Houston, Tex., a son, Thomas ' Toby' Dennis (Jenna) of Ganado, Tex., a grandson, Deandre Dennis and a host of relatives and close friends whom he cherished. Visitation will be held on Thursday February 9, 2017 at the Ganado Funeral Home, 800 So. Third St. from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Lolita—Harold Donald Deyton, 82, of Lolita, passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008 in Victoria. He was born March 13, 1925, in Fort Smith, Ark., to the late Willard and Dora Deyton. He was a mosquito control man for Calhoun County and a U. S. Army WWII veteran. He was a lifetime member of Lolita VFW Post 8556 and a member of First Baptist Church in Lolita. He loved to go fishing. He is survived by his wife, Jessie Delta Cobbs Deyton of Lolita; son, Jimmy Deyton and wife Opal of Lolita; sisters, Mereen Beals and husband Gilbert of Lolita and Shereen Ashley of Lolita; two granddaughters; four grandsons; six great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p. m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008 at Slavik Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a. m. Funeral services for Uranous Deyton, 43, of La Ward, were held at the Lolita Baptist Church Monday afternoon. Rev. H. O. Bilderback officiated. Burial was in the Red Bluff Cemetery, under direction of Psencik Funeral Home of Ganado. Pallbearers were Pepper Martin, Jim Payne, Otis Gooden, Bill Amey, Edmond Skloss and Don Payne. Honorary pallbearers were Tom Hamilton and Sam Allen. Mr. Deyton had lived in La Ward the past 12 years, and was in oil field construction. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Lolita VFW Post. He was born Dec. 27, 1919 in Fort Smith, Ark. He passed away in the hospital in Ganado on March 2. He is survived by his widow, Thelma; two sons, John and Larry, and a daughter, Patsy all of La Ward; also by his mother, Mrs. Dora Deyton; by two brothers, Jack and Harold Deyton, both of Lolita; and five sisters, Mary Schoonover of Lolita, Frances Stern and Essie LeWallen of San Antonio, Mereen Beals of Victoria and Shereen Goppert of Houston.

Willard Whit Deyton, 66, Lolita farmer, died at the hospital at Ganado this (Thursday) morning. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p. m. from the Baptist Church at Lolita, with Rev. T. D. Felts officiating. Burial will be in the Red Bluff Cemetery. Mr. Deyton was born March 25, 1885, and came to Jackson County 22 years ago from North Carolina. He was a highly esteemed citizen of the county. Surviving are eight children, Mrs. Mary Faye Schoonover of Vanderbilt, Wandus William Deyton of La Ward, Elmer Jack Deyton of Lolita, Mrs. Essie May LeWellen of San Antonio, Harold Donald Deyton of Edinburg, Francis Elizabeth Deyton of Lolita, Shereen Marie Deyto of Lolita and Mureen Larie Deyton of Lolita and seven grandchildren. GANADO — Mildred Alicia Ditto, 69, of Ganado died Monday in a Victoria
hospital following a short illness. |
Paul Dittrich, 97, died Feb. 3, 2014. He was bon Feb. 18, 1916 to William and Julia (Beran) Dittrich in Lytton Springs in Caldwell County. In 1918 the family moved to their farm in the Cordele Community, where he attended school in the two room schoolhouse in Lower Cordele. In 1936 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was stationed in Bastrop and Ten Sleep, Wyo. After serving about one year, he was discharged from the Corps and returned to the family farm in Cordele. In 1940 he joined the U.S. Army Signal Corps at Fort Sam Houston. After serving in several Army posts in the United States, his company was shipped overseas in 1943. His signal company made the amphibious invasion in Sicily, in Salerno, Italy at Anzio, Italy and Southern France. While serving with the Seventh Army in France he received a Battle Field Commission to 2nd Lt. in 1944. After the war ended he returned to the United States in November 1945. After being separated from the service he was employed as a radio technician for several years, eventually he owned and operated a radio and television business until his retirement in 1988. For most of his adult life, he was an amateur radio operator, with the call sign W5LCR. In 1951 he married Anita DeBord. They had no children. He was a member of the Methodist church, an active member of the Edna Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years, a life member of the American Legion Post 346 in Ganado, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8556 in Lolita. He was also a charter member of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. Paul is preceded in death by his wife Anita; parents; infant sister, Bessie Dittrich; sisters: Mary Quarles, Lucy Calcote, and Minnie Sowell; and brothers John Dittrich, Henry Dittrich and Alvin Dittrich. Paul is survived by two sisters and also his three special friends that took great care of him. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Edna Volunteer Fire Department. Visitation was noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at Slavik Funeral Home in Edna. Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at Slavik Funeral Home in Edna with Rev. George Tompkins officiating. Military honors were provided by the Ganado American Legion Post #346. Donations may be made to donor's choice.

Vanderbilt—George D. Dolan, 86, of Vanderbilt, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007. George was born Jan. 17, 1921, in Mathis to the late Hubert and Myrtle McCown Dolan. He served in the U. S. Army. George retired from Valero Energy. After retiring, he worked for L & P Lease Services in Ganado until October 2005. He was a member of the Saint Theresa Catholic Church in LaSalle. George loved life and his family. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed dancing, cards, dominos, and bingo. George is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Larry Cornejo of Victoria; two granddaughters, Rona (Jim) Simpson of Victoria and Shannon (Key) Curl of Brenham; five great-grandchildren, Tara, McKenna, and Landon Simpson, and Keyton and Kaylan Curl; a brother, Patrick (Darleen) Dolan of Cuero; and sisters, Adeline Harris of Beeville and Claudella Dement Taylor of Portland. Edna—Robert Alvin Drexler, 60, of Edna, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and a retired supervisor for the Lavaca-Navidad River Authority. He also served as Fire Chief for the Edna Volunteer Fire Dept. for many years. Survivors: wife, Gracie Miller Drexler; daughters, Tammy Williams Kubenka of Edna; son, John Drexler of Edna; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. La Ward—Our beloved John Clayton Dry passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi. He was born Sept. 9, 1984, to the late John Paul and Nancy Ruth Davis Dry, who died Oct. 10, 1999 and May 31, 1996, respectively. John Clayton is survived by his half-sister, Paula Joe Dry of New Jersey; half-brother, John Paul Dry II of San Antonio; maternal grandmother, Barbara Lou Gayle Davis of La Ward; aunts and uncles, Linda Ann Davis and Jackie Milton Small of Many , La., Kristen Jones and Bruce Barton Davis Jr. of Mont Belview, James and Rita Dry of Uvalde, Larry and Carol Dry Carroll of Hondo, and Ralph Dry of Hondo, and Ralph Dry of Hondo; cousins, Bryce Patrick Davis, Kade Ryan Davis, and Austin Kyle Davis; and his step-grandfather, Melvin Peters of Crystal City. John Clayton was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandfather, Bruce Barton Davis; paternal grandmother, Pauline Dry Peters; uncle, Bill Dry; and cousin, Ray Dry. Visitation will be 5 – 7 p. m. today, Dec. 3, in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Thursday, Dec. 4, in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita. The Rev. James Amerson will be officiating. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Lolita. PORT LAVACA - Geraldine Zacharias Durham, 85, of Port Lavaca, Texas passed
away on Friday, April 14, 2017. She was born in Ganado, Texas on July 18,
1931.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, James E. Durham;
daughters, Sandra Roeben and husband Justin, Nancy Wallace and husband John;
and sons Michael and wife Dawn, Pat and wife Dana, and John and wife Sissy:
grandchildren John Michael, Rochelle, Jared, Derek, Mackenzie, Carly, Megan,
Paige and Katie; great-grandchildren Rayleigh, Ellie, Cora, and Olivia;
step-grandchildren Heath, Wes, Lindy, Danielle, and Nick:
step-great-grandchildren Logan, Makenzie, Purusa and Jameson; and numerous
nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers for Mrs. Durham will be John Michael Durham, Derek Roeben, Jared Wallace, Jason Cade, Robert Durham and Ken Hodde.

Sharron Lee Dutcher, 79 of Ganado, received her wings and flew to heaven on October 9, 2019. She was born on May 24, 1940 in Sunray, Texas. Sharron was one of two children born to the late Elizabeth Beth and Fern Inezer Reynolds. Sharron graduated from Industrial High School in 1958. She was Miss Industrial and a high school twirler. She graduated from business school and owned and operated Ganado Flying Service for many years with her late husband Chub Calaway. Always a daredevil, Sharron was a wing walker, as Chub flew her on the wings of their airplanes as they performed at local air shows. Sharron also owned Bear-E-Special clothing and gifts for over 15 years in Victoria and later in Ganado. Through her stores she made many life-long friendships. She was a substitute teacher at Ganado ISD following the sale of her business. Additionally, she enjoyed to work in her yard and loved NASCAR, never missing a race on TV. In her younger years, she enjoyed to fish and hunt. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ganado. Sharron is survived by her children; Billy Swift, Kendra Moseley (Gary), Kari Clingingsmith (Curtis), Chris Dutcher (Annette ), Jeff Dutcher, Pam Skalicky, Sandy Prohaska (Timmy) and a niece, Connie Bronsell ( Bill). She was MOM #2 to her two special girls, Jill Summers (Ron ) and Nancy Frazer (Allan ). Sharron was blessed with many grandchildren whom she adored. Sharron is preceded in death by her sister Patsy Holden, daughter Tina Dutcher Sexton and the "love of her life" , husband Albert Dutcher. They were married for 35 years and God blessed them with a large blended family. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospice of South Texas, Dornburg Center of Compassion, 1005 Mallette, Victoria, Texas 77904, or the First United Methodist Church in Ganado in her loving memory. Visitation will be at the Ganado Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, October 11,2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be at the First United Methodist Church of Ganado on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 11:00 am with Pastor Paul Beard officiating. Interment will follow at Ganado City Cemetery. Vanderbilt—Stewart Morris “Uncle Moss” Dwiggins, 60, of Vanderbilt, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007. He was born April 8, 2007, in Houston, to the late Virginia Juanita “Nita” Owens Dwiggins and William Stewart Dwiggins. He was a disabled veteran serving two tours in the Vietnam War and was awarded four purple hearts and one bronze star. Military graveside rites provided by Lolita VFW Post 8556. He is survived by his daughters, Misty Odell of Newport News, Va., Jennifer Dawkins of Ashville, N. C., Laura Smith of North Carolina, April Dawn, and Michelle Lynn of New Jersey; sister, Evelyn “Evy” Johnson of Victoria; and brother, Gary Dwiggins of Vanderbilt. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p. m., at the funeral home chapel. Military graveside services provided by the Lolita VFW Post 8556 will be held at 3 p. m., on Thursday at Red Bluff Cemetery near Lolita. Vanderbilt—Nita Dwiggins, 69, of Vanderbilt died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1996. She was born July 20, 1927, in Llano to the late Morris and Jewell Stewert Owens. She was a homemaker and worked at Sally’s Antique Shop in Vanderbilt for nine years. Mrs. Dwiggins was a member of Church of Christ. Survivors: husband, William S. Dwiggins; daughter, Evelyn Johnson of Victoria; sons, S. M. Dwiggins of North Carolina and Gary Dwiggins of Vanderbilt; sisters, Louise Paschall of Buckholts and Iona Crim of Hearne; brother, Dale Owens of Rockdale; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
