Charles Edwin Dacke

Charles Edwin Dacke, 81, of Lolita, TX passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018. Charles was born on September 2, 1937 in West Columbia, Texas to Elmer and Annie Dacke. Charles is survived by his sons; David Dacke and his wife Samantha, and Steve Dacke and his wife Becky, their five granddaughters; Rachel, Kira, Landry, Lillian, and Sophia Dacke. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife of fifty-one years; Peggy Carole,  two of their sons; Casey and Kent Dacke, his two sisters; Montie and Annabelle, and his four brothers; Harold, Bruce, Wayne and Leslie Dacke. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 from 5:pm to 7:pm at Slavik~Edna Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 10:am at First Baptist Church in Lolita, interment will follow at Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita.  Services have been entrusted to Russell Todish of Slavik~Edna Funeral Home, 209 N. Vernon Daniels

Vernon Daniels was born July 28, 1949, in Edna. He retired from the Union Carbide Dow Chemical Plant in Victoria. He also owned and operated a successful mortuary, K. C. McDaniel’s Funeral Home, in Victoria, until the railroad bought him out for expansion. Vernon was residing in Desoto at the time of his sudden and unexpected death.

A celebration service of his life will be at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 604 Martin Luther King Drive in Edna.

Interment will be at Sayles Cemetery in Edna. His body will lie in state at the church on Wednesday beginning at 10 a. m. until the service time.

Floral arrangements may be sent to the church on Wednesday morning begin at 10 a. m.

Sammie Davis

 

Sammie Davis, 70, of Edna, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2018. She was born on Monday, Oct. 18, 1937 in Bastrop, Texas to William Samuel and Ruby Lee Palmer Grimes.

 

Sammie is survived by her children Samantha Ahlf, Jimmy W. Davis III, and Mark L. Davis, her four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as her sister; Helen Crisp.

 

There was a graveside service on Tuesday, July 24 at 10 a.m. at Red Bluff Cemetery.

 

Services were under the direction of Russell Todish of Slavik Funeral Home, 361-782-2152.

Jesusa De La Garza

Edna—Jesusa “Susie” De La Garza, 62, of Edna, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997.

She was born Aug. 23, 1935, in Jackson County, to the late Juan and Julia Flores Garcia. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of America.

Survivors: husband, Raymond De La Garza; sons, Ernest R. Montalvo and Amando Mata, both of Edna, Richard Garcia of Shawnee, Okla., and Rudy Lee Sifuentes of El Campo; stepsons, Phillips De La Garza of Victoria and Andy De La Garza of Edna; stepdaughter, Dolores Martinez of Bloomington; sisters, Guadalupe Solis and Mary Riojas, both of Ganado; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. today at Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be at 10 a. m. Friday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating.

Burial will be at Edna Latin American Cemetery, Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 782-2152.

Edna—Mrs. Margaret “Maggie” De La Garza, 55, died Friday in Edna.

She was born Dec. 11, 1926 in Edna.

Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p. m. Monday at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna with the Rev. Joe Hybner officiating. Burial will be in Edna Latin American Cemetery.

Surviving are her husband, Raymond T. De La Garza, of Edna; a daughter, Mrs. Dolores Martinez of Edna; two sons, Phillip and Andrew De La Garza, both of Victoria; four sisters, Mrs. Sophie Lara and Mrs. Esther Valdez, both of Victoria, Mrs. Ann Mata of Edna and Mrs. Dale Gomer of Portage, Ind.; two brothers, Jesse Nava Jr. of Edna and Dan Nava of Victoria; and seven grandchildren.

Angelita Samora De Leon

Porter—Angelita Samora De Leon, 82, of Porter, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009 in Humble. She was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Snyder, Okla., to the late Manuel Samora and Rafaela Estenis Samora. She was a homemaker and a Christian.

She is survived by her daughters, Angelita Zuarez of New Caney, Dolores Suniga of Houston, Maria Juarez of Angleton, Alicia Garcia of San Antonio, Alicia Garcia of San Antonio, Pauline De Leon Cabrerra of Houston, and Linda Tijerina of Porter; sons, Seber De Leon of Victoria, Jesus De Leon of Inez, and Avelino De Leon of Porter; brothers, Juan Samora of Edna, Pablo Samora of Freeport, and Frank Palacios of Victoria; 27 grandchildren; and 77 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jesus De Leon; sons, Gilbert De Leon and Raymond De Leon; sisters, Camilia Rivera, Sheila Rivera, Olivia Huerta, and Pauline Soto; and brothers, Manuel Samora, Pete Samora, Jimmy Samora, and Joe Samora.

Visitation will be noon today, Sept. 17, 2009, with a prayer service at 6 a. m., at Artero Memorial Chapels in Victoria. The funeral service will be at 9:30 a. m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at Artero Memorial Chapels in Victoria with Pastors Joel Elizondo and Juan Samora officiating. Interment will follow at Edna Latin American Cemetery.

Joe “Pinne” De Leon

El Campo—Joe De Leon, of El Campo, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2010 at the age of 73. He was born in Edna on April 19, 1937 to the late Ricardo and Frances Garcia De Leon.

Joe was a resident of El Campo for 35 years. He was a mechanic with Brothers Well Service for 19 years. To friends and family Joe was better known as “Pinne.”

Joe is survived by his wife, Anita Palacios De Leon of El Campo; daughter, Sylvia Gonzalez of El Campo; sons, Arthur De Leon of Pearland, Marty De Leon and Matthew Amezquita, both of Lake Jackson; sisters, Francis Mosqueda and Vera Martinez, both of Edna, Mary Longoria of Visalia, Calif., Peggy Dreiss of Capitola, Calif., and Dolly De Leon of Edna; brothers, Richard Deleon Jr. of Van Vleck, Margarito De Leon of Edna, and Johnny De Leon of Victoria; and his grandchildren, Staci Gonzalez of Missouri City, Alyssa De Leon of Sugar Land, Candice Gonzalez of Louise, Alex De Leon of Pearland, and Derek De Leon of Lake Jackson.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be 6 – 8 p. m. today, May 19, 2010, 6 – 8 p. m., May 19, 2010, 6 – 8 p. m., with a rosary to be recited at 7 p. m., at Oaklawn Funeral Home. Antonio DeLeon Jr.

Edna—Antonio DeLeon Jr., 84, of Edna, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005.

He was born Aug. 18, 1921, in Seguin, to the late Antonio Sr. and Angelita DeLeon DeLeon. He was retired from Brown and Root Construction and a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Vanderbilt.

Survivors: sisters, Gerarda Gonzales DeLeon of Florida.

Preceded in death by: wife, Angelita Herrera DeLeon; sister, Josephine Lopez DeLeon; and brothers, Isabel DeLeon, Willie DeLeon and Jacinto DeLeon.

A rosary will be 7 p. m. Friday at Slavik Funeral home Chapel.

Daniel DeLeon

Edna—Daniel DeLeon, 25, of Edna died Sunday at an Edna hospital following a short illness.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Tuesday at Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna with the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in Edna Latin American Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Mr. DeLeon was born July 25, 1961, in Angleton to Mr. and Mrs. Jacinto “Chico” DeLeon. He was employed by Brothers’ Well Service of El Campo and was a member of the Catholic church.

Surviving in addition to his parents, are his wife, Lisa (Howard) DeLeon of Edna; a daughter, Stefanie Gayle DeLeon of Edna; a son, Nathaniel DeLeon of Edna; and two brothers, Jacinto DeLeon Jr. and Johnny DeLeon, both of Edna.

Pallbearers will be John Howard, Clarence Lee Matulik, Sammy Sanchez, Marcelino, Johnny and Jimmy DeLeon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gilbert and Jimmy Jennings, Arthur Wayne, Joe Luis Gonzales, Joe Manuel Gonzales, Joe DeLeon, members of the Edna High School graduating class of 1980 and employees of Brothers’ Well Service.

Edna—Elvira Carmona DeLeon, 88, of Edna, died Sunday, March 4, 2001

She was born Feb. 7, 1913, in McFaddin, to the late Juan and Isabel Cruz Carmona. She was a past member of Catholic Daughters of America and member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. She was a homemaker.

Survivors: husband, Esteban DeLeon; daughter, Mary Villareal of West Columbia; sons, Pete DeLeon of Bremerton, Wash., Joe DeLeon of Houston, Steve DeLeon of Edna and Amos DeLeon of Sweeney; brother, Lupe Carmona of San Francisco, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: daughters, Angelita Robles and Bessie Lopez; four sisters, and three brothers.

Frank DeLeon, 68, of Victoria, formerly of Edna, died Thursday in a Victoria hospital following a sudden illness.

Mr. DeLeon was born June 30, 1917 in Jackson County. He was a retired farm laborer and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Surviving are two sisters, Delores DeLeon of Victoria and Kathryn Zamora of Edna; and three brothers, Sebero of San Angelo, and Manuel and Antonio, both of Victoria.

Jesus DeLeon

Edna—Jesus DeLeon, 63, of Inez, died Sunday in a Victoria hospital following a lengthy illness.

Mr. DeLeon was born in Jackson County March 12, 1921. He was a longtime employee of the Bud Lee family here and was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Mr. DeLeon is survived by his wife, Angelita, of Inez. The couple were married July 9, 1940.

Other survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Angelita Martinez of Victoria, Mrs. Delores Suniga of Houston, Mrs. Maria Juarez of Houston, Ms. Pauline DeLeon of Inez, Mrs. Alicia Ramirez of San Antonio and Mrs. Linda Tijerina of Bay City; three sons, Sebero DeLeon Sr. of Victoria, Jesus DeLeon Jr. of Edna and Abelino DeLeon Sr. of Inez; two sisters, Ms. Delores DeLeon of Victoria and Mrs. Katerina Samora of Edna; four brothers, Manuel DeLeon of Victoria, Severo DeLeon of San Angelo, Frank DeLeon of Edna and Antonio DeLeon of Victoria; 30 grandchildren, and two [great grandchildren?].

John DeLeon

Edna—Funeral services for John DeLeon, 61, of 906 N. William, Victoria, will be held at 3 p. m. Wednesday from St. Agnes Catholic Church here, with the Rev. Ramon Garcia officiating.

The body will lie in state at the Slavik Funeral Home in Edna until 2 p. m. and then will be taken to the church. Burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under direction of Slavik’s.

Mr. DeLeon was born Sept 10, 1913 in Jackson county and spent most of his life in this county. He died in Victoria Monday after a sudden illness. He was a son of the late Frances and Sebro DeLeon.

Surviving are two sisters, Delores DeLeon of Victoria and Mrs. Katie Samora of Edna; and five brothers, Sebro of Rochelle, and Frank, Tony, Manuel and Jessie, all of Edna.

Edna—Funeral services for Maria Partida DeLeon, 69, of Edna have been announced for 10 a. m. Saturday in St. Agnes Church in Edna. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Friday in the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel.

Edna—Funeral services for Martin S. DeLeon, 22, of Edna, who was killed Saturday in an oilfield accident near Port Lavaca, will be held at 2 p. m. Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna with the Rev. Joe Hybner officiating.

Edna—Ysabel DeLeon, 89, of Edna, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997.

He was born June 8, 1908, in Seguin, to the late Antonio and Angelita DeLeon. He was employed by Missouri Pacific Railroad and was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Survivors: daughters, Ramona Herrera of Lubbock, Rosa Sanchez of Edna and Janie San Juanita Soria of Burlington, Wash.; sons, Ben DeLeon of Lubbock, Jacinto DeLeon and Marcelino DeLeon both of Edna and Ysabel DeLeon Jr. of Grand Prairie; sister, Geraldo Gonzales of Indiantown, Fla.; brother, Antonio DeLeon of Vanderbilt; 43 grandchildren; 96 great-grandchildren;  and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: wife, Mary Partida DeLeon.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Sunday at Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

Robert Diaz Jr., 44, of Victoria, formerly of Edna, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005.

He was born June 10, 1961, in Palacios, to the late Robert Sr. and Emilie Cruz Diaz. He was a gauger for the city of Victoria and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. He was a fourth degree member of Knights of Columbus.

Survivors: wife, Rachel Alonzo Diaz; daughters, Crystal Rose Diaz of Victoria; sons, Robert Diaz III and Robert Anthony Diaz, both of Victoria; and sister, Millie Rose Diaz of Corpus Christi.

Preceded in death by: sisters, Millie Cruz Diaz and Jane Josephine Diaz; and grandparents, Fred and Bessie Diaz and Henry and Elvira Cruz.

Edna—Lee Ann Dilworth, 47, of Edna, passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008. She was born Sept. 16, 1961, in Ganado, to Shirley Barnes Dilworth Littlejohn of Edna and the late Claude Dilworth Jr. She was a retired licensed vocational nurse.

She is survived by her mother, daughters, Darta Meisha Dilworth and Nicale Dilworth, both of Edna; son, Donovan Dilworth of Midland; sisters, Regina Dilworth, Virginia Dilworth, and Delores Dilworth, all of Edna; stepsisters, Terrilyn Turner, Jacqueline Turner, Ayreonna Turner, Wanda Bryant, and Myrtle Ware, all of Edna; brothers, Randy Dilworth and Ronnie Dilworth, both of Alameda, Calif.; stepbrother, Otis Littlejohn of Edna; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be 9 a. m. to 6 p. m. Tuesday at Cook-Butler Funeral Home in Edna. Services will be t 11 a. m. Wednesday at Shiloh Baptist Church, with the Rev. Maurice Washington officiating. Burial will follow at Sayles Cemetery.

Edna—Roy Dilworth, 56, of Edna, died Monday, June 30, 2003.

He was born Feb. 6, 1947, in Edna, to the late Eugene Sr. and Ella Mae Alexander Dilworth. He was a heavy equipment operator.

Survivors: companion, Delaura Huff Dilworth of Edna; daughters, Londa Richards of Round Rock, Phlessia A. Walker of Rosenberg and Samantha Josey of Brookshire; son, Chris Davis of Fort Worth; brother, Virgil Dilworth of Victoria; and nine grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: sisters, Annie Brooks and Flora Jones; and brothers, Walter Dilworth, Lee Dilworth, Claude Dilworth, Eugene Dilworth Jr., Lonnie B. Dilworth and Cal Dilworth.

Shemar Demontae Dilworth, infant son of Feleria Dilworth of Victoria, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002.

Shemar Demontae was born Oct. 4, 2002 in Victoria.

Walter Dilworth

Edna--Walter Dilworth, 62, of Edna, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001.

He was born June 19, 1938, in Jackson County, to the late Eugene and Ella Mae Alexander Dilworth Sr. He was a retired tavern operator and a Baptist.

Survivors: wife, Rosie Lee Dilworth of Corpus Christi; daughters, Alma Jean Parson of Long Beach, Calif., Merry Parson of Alhambra, Calif.; Helen McGrew of Corpus Christi and Chandra Turner of Edna; stepdaughters, Rachel Hardeway of Corpus Christi and Lucinda Williams of Edna; sons, Walter Ray Parson, Carl Ray Parson and Douglas Parson, all of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Johnathan Dilworth of Edna; sister, Annie Brooks of Port Lavaca; brothers, Virgil Dilworth of Victoria and Roy Dilworth of Edna; 19 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be noon to 7 p. m. Friday at Cook-Butler Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 1 p. m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church, the Rev. G. L. Roberts officiating.

Burial will be at Chinn Cemetery at Lake Texana. Cook-Butler Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-3821.

Robert “Bobby” Alan Dunham

Bobby Dunham, of Edna, Texas, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018, at the age of 67. He was born in McAllen, Texas on Aug. 11, 1951, to the late Richard Afton Dunham and Clara Dunham.

Bobby worked hard all of his life for his family who were his everything. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, and friend. He will be missed dearly and will always be remembered with love.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 46 years, Donna Williams Dunham of Edna; mother-in-law, Dorothy Williams of Edna; daughter, Mandy Hajek and Ben Shev of Katy; son, Wade Dunham and Kaitie Kaiser of New York City; sisters, Tomelynne Hemingway of Washington, Linda and John Chandler of Yoakum; sister-in-law, Donna Lynn Dunham of Edna; grandchildren, Madelyn Welder, Cameron Dunham and Taylor Graham, Cori Jaye Dalton; and all his loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bobby is preceded in death by his brother, Richard “Rick” Dunham; father-in-law, Cotton Williams; brother-in-law, Vince Williams and Lou “Sonny” Hemingway.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m., in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Danny Dunham officiating.

Services Set For Man In Edna – Mario R. Duron

Edna—Funeral services for Mario R. Duron, 24, of Edna, who died Tuesday morning from injuries received earlier in an altercation, have been set for 2 p. m. Thursday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Joe Hybner officiating.

Following the services, burial will be in the Edna Latin American Cemetery under direction of Slavik Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Emilio Garcia Jr., Raul Ramirez, Gregorio Ramirez, Joe Sidonio Ramirez, Javier Ballin and Joe Herrera.

Duron was born Sept. 16, 1957, in Ganado. He was an employee of a water well service.

He died in a local hospital about an hour later. Justice of the Peace Afton Dunham said Wednesday the preliminary autopsy report indicated death was due to a blow or blows to the head.
