Edna—Funeral services for Lester Bryan Coalson, 54, of Edna will be held at the First Baptist Church here at 10 a. m. Monday, with the Rev. W. W. Wooten of San Marcos officiating. Burial will be in the Edna Cemetery under direction of the Slavik Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Charles Krause, Bobby Keith, Ray Anders, Gene Mills, James Moss and Jesse Frenzel. Mr. Coalson was born Aug. 3, 1919 in McCulloch County, and came to this county in 1948. He formerly owned an upholstery shop and was a member of the Baptist Church. He also was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Coalson died Saturday in a Houston hospital after a long illness. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Clara Coalson of Edna; three daughters, Mrs. Robert Hesson of San Marcos, Mrs. Kenneth Goodman of Richardson and Mrs. Gary Boening of Edna; a son Lester Bryan Jr. of New Braunfels; two brothers, A. D. and Glen, both of Green River, Wyoming, and two grandchildren.

Edna—Funeral services for Miss Susie N. Coates, 92, of San Antonio, formerly of Edna, who died in San Antonio Friday, will be held at 11 a. m. Tuesday in the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Russell Moon officiating. The body will in state at the funeral home from 8 a. m. Tuesday until time of services. Burial will be in Memory Gardens of Edna. Miss Coates member of a pioneer Jackson County family, was born here July 5, 1889. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Coates and was a member of the Edna First United Methodist Church.

Edna—James W. Coats, 74, of Edna, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004. He was born Jan. 12, 1930, in Angleton, to the late Samuel and Lila Fay Skeeters Coats. He was a retired industrial mechanic for Gulf State Tube and a member of Baptist Temple. Survivors: wife, Eva Swinea Ferguson; daughters, Susan Behan of Sharon Ontario, Canada, Carol Baldwin of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Sandy Bryant of Edna; sons, Clayton J. Coats of Wharton, Duncan J. Coats of Clear Lake, and Darrell Ferguson of Edna; sisters, Josie L. Jones of Cypress, Sammie Fay Mooney of Houston, and Catherine Ann Spann of Tomball; brother, Homer Lee Coats; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Preceded in death by: first wife, Beryl Coats. Visitation will begin 8 a. m. today at Slavik Funeral Home chapel. Services will be 1 p. m. Saturday at Baptist Temple Church of Edna, the Rev. Edna—Funeral services for Mrs. Jenelle Cobb, 74, of Edna, who died Friday in a Victoria hospital, will be held at 10 a. m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Edna. The Rev. Joe Webb will officiate, with burial in Memorial Gardens cemetery. Mrs. Cobb was born Feb. 3, 1909 in Barry, Texas. She was a member of First Baptist Church, and chairman of the church’s Benevolent Fund. Survivors include a son, Dr. Milton L. Cobb of Kirkwood, Mo.; two brothers, Berle Heaton of Hot Springs, Ark., and Vernon L. Heaton of Odessa; and two grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Floyd Underwood, Darrell Rowlett, George Frazier, Oscar Berryhill Jr., C. D. George and Dee Milstead.

Edna—Milton Leonard Cobb, 73, a Jackson County official for 35 years, died Friday in a Victoria rest home after a long illness. Funeral services have been announced for 2:30 p. m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Webb officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens of Edna, under direction of the Slavik Funeral Home. Judge Cobb was born July 8, 1902 at Gonzales. He graduated from the University of Texas law school in 1928 and came to Edna to practice law. He first was named Jackson county attorney in 1929 and served six years in the office. He returned to private practice, then again was made county attorney in 1939, serving until he was elected county judge in 1941. He held that office until 1954. Then in 1956 he was appointed county auditor and served in that post until he retired in 1969. Judge Cobb was a retired deacon of First Baptist Church and also a former Sunday School teacher and Sunday School superintendent of that church. He also was a former adult leader in scouting, a Rotarian, and for sometime was chairman of the county Salvation Army unit. He married the former Jenelle Heaton of Vanderbilt. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jenelle Cobb of Edna; a son, Larry Cobb of St. Louis, Mo., and two grandchildren. Pallbearers will be George Frazier, Darrell Rowlett, Charles George, Cleo Milstead, Floyd Underwood and Harold Bonnot. Honorary pallbearers will be J. P. Davis, L. E. Northern, Randle Sholars and Hubert Lassiter.

Lolita—Anna Mae Coker, 70, of Lolita died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 1996. She was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Millheim to the late Albert and Vera Garling Bender. She was a homemaker and was a member of VFW Auxiliary since 1972, a Sunday School teacher, Garden Club of San Antonio and First Baptist Church of Lolita. Survivors: husband, Ed Coker, Jr.; daughters, Nita Reynolds of Midway, and Beverly Koch and Donna Webernick, both of Edna; son, Eddie Coker of Waco; sisters, Dorothy Fojtik of Galveston, Luella Ledwig of Bay City, Vera Gates of Kingman, Ariz.; Ruby Sumner of Madisonville and Betty Harvey of Fairfield, Vt.; brothers, Lester Bender of Van Vleck, Frank Bender of Brenham, Harry Bender of Green Valley, Ariz., Albert Bender of Madisonville and Earl Bender of Kingman, Ariz; and 11 grandchildren. Preceded in death by: sister, Bernice Bender; and brothers, Vernon Bender and Wilburn Bender; and one grandson. Services will be held at 10 a. m. Friday at Lolita First Baptist Church, the Rev. Lolita—Ed Coker Jr., 73, of Lolita, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000. He was born Aug. 8, 1926, in Stever, to the late Ed and Luda Whitley Coker Sr. He was a potman at Alcoa Aluminum and a member of Soul Harbor Baptist Church in Ganado. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors: wife, Agnes Marie Jacobs Coker; daughters, Donna Webernick and Beverly Koch, both of Edna and Nita Reynolds of Midway; son, Eddie Eugene Coker of Waco; brother, Edgar Coker of Port Lavaca; and 11 grandchildren. Preceded in death by: parents; sister, Lois McGowan; brothers, James Edward Coker and Edwin Lee Coker; and one grandchild. Visitation will be 8 a. m. to 9 p. m. today and 6 to 8 p. m. Funeral services were held at 10 a. m. Monday from First Baptist Church for Mrs. Aylbin Cole, who passed away at 10 p. m. July 27, in a San Antonio hospital. Rev. W. L. Wootan officiated and interment was in the Edna Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bobby Ingram, Jimmie Wynn, Charlie Wynn, Gene Cole, Mabry Cane and Charles Vaughn. Mrs. Cole was born April 10, 1908 in Kentucky, and lived at Olivia before coming to Jackson county in 1941. She was a member of the Baptist church. She is survived by her husband, Emmett Cole and her father, Charlie Wynn, both of Edna; three sons, Wesley Emmett Cole Jr. of Victoria, Lee Roy Cole of Corpus Christi and Leslie Eugene Cole of Port Lavaca, and five grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Lillian Fields of Waco; and three brothers Roy Wynn and Home Wynn of Houston, and Vernon Wynn of San Antonio.

Mr. Ira M. Cole, a former well known Jackson County resident and father of Mr. Emmett Cole of Edna, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R. O. Woodson, in Corpus Christi Friday, November 4th. The remains were brought to Edna Saturday for interment in the Edna Cemetery besides the remains of his wife, who passed away November 4, 1947, just two years to the day form the passing of Mr. Cole. The funeral service was held from the Baptist Church and was conducted by the pastor, Rev. Carl Schlomach. The pallbearers were grandsons: Messrs. Emmett Cole, Jr., Lee Roy Cole, Leslie Cole, Bobby and Jimmie Ingram and Bob Williams. Mr. Cole was born at Dilworth, Gonzales County. He was united in marriage to Miss Katie Johnson in 1902. To this union three sons and three daughters were born. He and Mrs. Cole moved to Jackson County many years ago, settling in the lower LaWard section. He served as mail carrier from old Buhler post office to Pierce, and from Olivia, LaWard and Ganado. Later the family moved to Eagle Lake. The subject of this sketch was a man who earned and had the love and esteem of a great host of friends throughout this section for he was honest and fair in his dealings with his fellow man; he was an active church member and Christian, and a man who made the world better by having lived in it. His passing caused many sad hearts among his old neighbors and friends in our county. Mr. Cole is survived by the following: Three sons: Messrs. Ervin Cole of Hempstead; Emmett Cole of Edna and Ed Cole of Port Lavaca; and three daughters: Mesdames Lillian Ingram of Ingram; Mrs. Bernice Woodson of Corpus Christi, and Maurine Wade of Alice; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Lora C. Brown. The Herald joins the many other friends of the family in extending sympathy.

Jessie Ivy Hopkins Cole, age 86, died at The Woodland Health Care Center on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000. She was born on January 29, 1914, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to the late Lavern and Ivy Hopkins. She was a graduate of DeRidder High School in DeRidder, Louisiana in 1928 at the young age of 16. Mrs. Cole married J. W. “Buck” Cole in Lake Charles, Louisiana and lived in Louisiana for several years. In the early 1940s Humble Oil transferred them to Lolita, Texas. Jessie retired after many years as secretary to the principal at Industrial Jr. High School in Lolita. She touched the lives of many children while working there. Jessie was a member of First Baptist Church, Lolita, where she was a member and past president of the Women’s Missionary Society, Church treasurer, dedicated Sunday School Treasurer, dedicated Sunday School teacher, nursery volunteer, and choir member. For many years Mrs. Cole wrote the Lolita News for the Edna Herald Newspaper and was a member of the Lolita Garden Club. Jessie is survived by her son and his wife, Joe and Jeannine Cole, Spring, Texas; her daughter and her husband, Sharon and John McClelland, Junction, Texas; her daughter and her husband, Brenda and Paul Sotomayor, Boca Raton, Florida; ten grandchildren, Jennifer (Tom) Brawley; Spring, Tx., Joell (Jeff) Bartsch, The Woodlands, Tx., Denise (Michael) Nack, Austin, Tx., Mark Sappington, Giddings, Tx., Brent (Vicki) Sappington, Giddings, Tx., Dr. John (Lori) McClelland III, Austin, Tx., Jess Cole McClelland, Austin, Raul, Max-Andres and Gabriel Sotomayor, Boca Raton, Fl.; four great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Brawley, Spring, Joshua Nack Austin, Cody and Ashley Sappington, Giddings. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. W. (Buck) Cole and her daughter, Sandra Sappington Sutter. Funeral services for Jessie Ivy Hopkins Cole will be held at 10:00 a. m., Tuesday, November 14, at The First Baptist Church, Lolita. Brother H. O. “Hobby” Bilderback will officiate. The buried service will follow in Memory Gardens of Edna. The family will received Jessie’s precious friend in the fellowship hall between 9 and 10:00 a. m.

Death claimed J. W. “Buck” Cole of Lolita at Victoria’s DeTar Hospital Monday after a long illness. He had been ill since March. Mr. Cole had resided in Jackson County for 25 years. He was 68 years old. Mr. Cole was a pumper for Humble Oil Company and was born in Bell, County, Texas, May 28, 1907. He was a member of the Baptist Church in Lolita. The funeral was held Wednesday, at Lolita Baptist Church with the Rev. H. O. Bilderback officiating. Interment was at Memory Gardens in Edna. Hutzler Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Jessie Cole, Lolita, three daughters, Mrs. Sandra Sappington of Lolita, Sharon Cole of Houston, and Brenda Cole of Lolita, one son, Joe W. Cole of Shreveport, La. He is survived by three daughters, I. P. Cole, San Angelo, K. D. Cole, Wewoka, Okla., and B. W. Cole, Bremerton, Wash.; and by one sister, Mrs. Ethel Carlisle, Holland, Tex., and by three grandchildren. Pallbearers included A. “Rock” Young, V. M. Williams, Leon Horne, Grover Klaus, H. M. Sears and Simon McCloud. Honorary pallbearers were employees of Humble Oil Company. Mr. Cole had worked for Humble Oil for 34 years and served on the board of directors of the Jackson County Park Commission.

Funeral services for Mrs. Katie Cole, wife of Mr. Ira M. Cole of Kerrville, were held Thursday, November 6th, at 2:00 o’clock, at the First Baptist Church, Edna, with Rev. L. E. Barrett conducting the services. Interment was made in the Edna Cemetery. Active pallbearers were: Messrs. L. I. Sanford, Lyn Pape, Tom Hubbard, W. A. Stewart, J. W. Harper, and Roy Selby, all of Ganado. Mrs. Cole died in Kerrville after an illness of eleven weeks. She became ill of pneumonia on August 18th and suffered several heart attacks before death relieved her of her suffering on Tuesday, November 4th. Mrs. Cole was born May 29, 1886, at Devine, Texas, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wesley Johnson. The greater part of her life was spent in the Olivia community and in Jackson County. At the time of her death she had reached the age of 61 years, 5 months and 6 days. She was married to Mr. Ira M. Cole in 1902, and to this union three sons and three daughters were born. Mrs. Cole was a true Christian mother, wife and friend. She united with the Baptist Church at the age of sixteen years and served her church devotedly throughout her life. She was a member of the Ganado Baptist Church for about eight years. She was a friend to all and to know her was to love her. Survivors include her husband, Mr. Ira M. Cole, six children, Ervin of San Juan, Emmett of Olivia, Mrs. Lillian Ingram of Ingram, Mrs. Bernice Woodson of Corpus Christi, Ed of Ingram and Mrs. Maurine Wade of Mineola, twelve grandchildren; one great granddaughter, one brother, Bourke Johnson of Fulton; two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Weire of Dallas and Mrs. Willie Maudlin of Houston. The beautiful floral offering showed the love and respect felt for her by her friends and loved ones.—Contributed

Corpus Christi—Leslie E. Cole Sr., 67, of Corpus Christi, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001. He was born June 2, 1933, in Olivia, to the late Emmett Cole Sr. and Aylbin Wynn Cole. He was a U. S. Army veteran and was retired from the oil field service business. He was a member of Annaville Baptist Church and Riverwood Church, and served as a Baptist deacon. Survivors; wife, Betty Cole; daughters, Carrie McDonald and Cathi Hobbs, both of Corpus Christi; sons, Leslie Cole Jr. of Corpus Christi and David Cole of Orange Grove; brothers, Emmett Cole Jr. of Victoria and Lee Roy Cole of Corpus Christi; and 12 grandchildren. Visitation will be noon to 9 p. m. tonight at Sawyer-George Funeral Home chapel. Services will be 10 a. m. Saturday at Annaville Baptist Church, the Rev. Jess Cole officiating. McAllen—Ervin Cole, 62, died Wednesday in McAllen. Services were held Thursday at the Skinner Funeral Home in Pharr, and graveside services will be held Friday at 10 a. m. at the Edna Cemetery. Mr. Cole was born July 15, 1903, in Jackson County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira M. Cole. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Alberta Cole. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Bob Williams of McAllen, Mrs. Bill Morris of Sealy and Mrs. Charlie Jack of Tulsa, Okla.; a son, Calvin E. Cole of McAllen; two brothers, Emmett Cole and Ed Cole, both of Port Lavaca; and three sisters, Mrs. R. O. Woodson of Corpus Christi, Mrs. Mabrey Ingram of Kerrville and Mrs. W. W. Wade of Devine.

Port Lavaca—Funeral services for Wesley Emmett Cole Sr., 79, of Port Lavaca will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday at Richardson Funeral Home with the Rev. Jesse Cole, the Rev. David Bush, and the Rev. Leslie Cole officiating. Burial will be at 2 p. m. in the Edna Cemetery under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home. Mr. Cole died Thursday morning in his residence. Born April 17, 1907, in Brazoria County, to the late Ira M. and Katy Johnson Cole, he was employed in the trucking and ranching business before his retirement. Mr. Cole was a member of First Baptist Church in Port Lavaca. Surviving are his wife, Lillian Underwood Cole of Port Lavaca; three sons, Wesley Emmett Cole Jr. of Victoria, and Lee Roy Cole and Leslie Eugene Cole, of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Bernice Woodson of Alba and Maureen Wade of Devine; a brother, Ed T. Cole of Port Lavaca; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Wes, Jim, Ron, Don, Chuck and David Cole—all grandsons.

Edna—Mrs. Jessie L. Collier, 79, a long time resident of Jackson County, died Saturday in a Victoria hospital following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Collier was born Oct. 24, 1890 in Jackson County, daughter of the late Lavonia and Pierce Laughter. She had resided in Houston with her husband, Olin Collier, who preceded her in death in 1945, until the mid-30s when they returned to make their home in Edna. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 4 p. m. at the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. I. E. Walker and the Rev. Wesley Schulze officiating. Burial will be in Edna Cemetery. Pallbearers will be C. S. Simons, P. K. Simons, P. J. Bolling, P. D. Laughter, P. L. Frels and J. G. Laughter Jr. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Enid Bolling of Edna. The family has requested that in lieu of usual remembrances donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Graveside services were to be held here today in Edna Cemetery at 2:30 p. m. for Mrs. Jessie Owen Collis, 75, a native and longtime resident of Edna, who passed away Feb. 20 in San Antonio. Rev. M. P. Burton of First Methodist Church was to hold the service here. Funeral services were to be held in San Antonio at 9:30 this morning. Mrs. Collis was born in Edna on March 3, 1886, and was reared here. She moved away many years ago, local friends said. She is survived by three sons, Francis of San Antonio, Victor of Houston, and Henry Owen of California; one grandson; and one sister in San Antonio.

Edna—Mrs. Ida Mae Collum, 69, of Rosenberg, a sister of Raymond Ledkins of Edna, died Thursday in a Houston hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Saturday in the Memory Gardens of Edna under direction of the Slavik Funeral Home of Edna. Mrs. Collum was born March 11, 1913, in Wachulla, Fla. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. J. P. Stuart and another brother, Robert Ledkins, both of Rosenberg.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10 a. m. from Slavik Funeral Chapel for Thomas Coleman Collum, 70, a Vanderbilt resident who had lived in this county 47 years. Rev. C. N. Jones of the Vanderbilt Baptist Church officiated, and interment was in the Edna Cemetery. Mr. Collum was born May 14, 1887 in Mississippi, and was a well known Jackson County farmer. He passed away at Vanderbilt on July 21, following an illness of some seven months. He is survived by his wife, Ida Mae Collum and one sister, Zella Wofford, of Francitas.

Edgar Malcolm Comeaux, of Edna, Texas, passed away Monday, August 18, 2014 at the age of 63. He was born in Crowley, Louisiana, on January 6, 1951, to Vera Mae Harrah -White and the late Harry Joseph Comeaux. He was a very well known carpet and flooring installer in the Jackson county area for many years. He was a loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Mac will be truly missed by all who knew him. Mac is survived by his loving wife, Paula Jo Comeaux; Mother, Vera Mae Harrah-White and husband Henry White of Edna; daughter, Tanya Johnson and husband Rick of Houston; sons, Dwight Comeaux and wife Jessica of Edna and Heath Janecka and wife Lou of Houston; sister, Bonnie Beth Rowe and husband Harry of Streetman; brothers, Harry J. Edna—Charles Seymour Cook, 43, of 502 Church Lane in Victoria, died Monday in a Victoria hospital after a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday in the Slavik Funeral Home chapel in Edna with the Rev. Russell Moon officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens of Edna. Mr. Cook was born Feb. 10, 1940, at Seguin and had lived in Vanderbilt three years before moving to Victoria about 10 years ago. He was an electrician for the Danie Construction Co. Surviving are his stepfather, Ted Haynes of Victoria; a daughter, Carrie Denice Cook of Houston; a son, Stephen Edward Cook of Victoria; and a brother; Robert Mark Cook, in the Air Force, Osan, Korea. Funeral services for Lula Mae Cook, 64, of Victoria and a former resident of Edna and Palestine, will be held at 1:30 p. m. Thursday at the Slavik Funeral Home chapel in Edna with the Rev. She was a housewife and was a member of Edna Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Cook had been employed in the Anderson County District Attorney’s Office in Palestine from 1963 until she retired in 1989 when she moved to Victoria. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Rhea Cook, who died in 1955. Surviving are her husband, Walter Ray Cook of Victoria; her mother, Mary Konzen of Victoria; two daughters, Dr. Erin Beth Neal of Mobile, Ala., and Carolee Bubenik of Port Lavaca; a son, Champ Traylor Cook of Houston; two sisters, Mary Eunice Parker of Houston and Dorothy Cole of Sweeney; a brother, Dr. Walter Ray Konzen of Victoria; and three grandchildren. Lester Joseph Cranek, Jr. (Jack), age 77, passed away October 21, 2024, at his home following an extended illness. He was born January 22, 1947, in LaGrange, Texas to Lester Joseph Cranek, Sr. and Isabel Ada Sladek Cranek. Les was a Garwood High School graduate. He attended Southwest Texas State and later transferred and graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in agriculture. He was a farmer and rancher. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army having honorably served for 36 years. Les enjoyed his family, farming, ranching, hunting, wildlife and his service in the military. Mrs. Betty Lee Cosper, who reached the age of 91 last February, passed away Oct. 8 at her home here on Hanover Street. Services were held at 10 a. m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, with Rev. HORATIO, ARK. - Thomas Olan 'Tommy' Cosper, 87, of Horatio, Arkansas, and formerly of Edna, Texas, passed away Monday, November 10, 2014 peacefully from his earthly home to his home with his Lord and Savior. His passion was to serve others unselfishly and for sharing God's Word in hope that others would experience the same joy that he had for his Lord Jesus Christ. He was born October 17, 1927 to the late Floyd Olan 'Dick' and Verbey Cosper of Edna. Tommy served in the army during World War II. He worked for Mobil Oil in Texas, Louisiana and on rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. Upon retirement, he moved to Arkansas and began his active life as a cattleman. He was a member of the Williamson Baptist Church of Horatio. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lois Maxey Cosper and wife, Mildred Cantrell Cosper; son, Ronald Bruce Tate and brother, Richard Wells Cosper. Mrs. Betti Ruth Coward, wife of Edward Coward, was killed in an auto accident in Minnesota Sunday. The car in which she was riding was struck by a train and all four persons riding in the car were killed instantly. Funeral services will be held in Grand Forks, N. D. today and the body will be brought to Edna Saturday for burial. Mrs. Coward is survived by her husband and a baby daughter of Rapid City, S. D., and her parents and one brother of Grand Forks. She was born Dec. 7, 1892 at Morales, and lived in the county 43 years of her life. She had resided in Edna before moving to Mexia. Her husband, J. Harde Cox, died some 42 years ago. Funeral services were held from Slavik Funeral Home Wednesday at 3 p. m. for Mrs. Frances Ollie Craig, 62, who died here at her home on Jan. 23, following a month’s illness. Rev. John Newton assisted by Rev. I. E. Walker, had charge of the services, and burial was in the Edna Cemetery. Pallbearers were Steele Simons, Garrett Menefee, Fred Hoffman, Everett McDowell, Sonny Egg and Harrison Stafford. Mrs. Craig was born July 11, 1887 in Italy, Texas and had lived in Jackson County nearly all her life, she was a Presbyterian. She is survived by her husband, Frank R. Craig and three sons, Samuel R. Craig of Edna, Thomas G. Craig of Shreveport, La., and Mac H. Craig of Petal, Miss. Also one sister, Mrs. Albert White of Corpus Christi, and four grandchildren.

Edna—Naomi Miller Craig, of Edna, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999. She was born in Edna, to the late Adolph L. and Nellie I. Terrell Miller. She was a retired sales lady of Carol Ann’s Dress Shop. She was a member of the Texas Museum and Library Association, AARP Association where she served as a director and Blue Belle Ladies Auxiliary at Jackson County Hospital. Edna—Sam R. Craig, 61, of Edna was found dead about 9:30 p. m. Wednesday at his ranch in the Arenosa Community, 10 miles west of Edna. Justice of the piece Afton Dunham, who was called to the scene, had not given a verdict but said Craig apparently died from a heart attack. Dunham said he was found on the floor of the barn by two neighbors, C. R. Hicks and A. L. Claybrook. Mrs. Craig had called the neighbors, and also the sheriff’s office when her husband had not returned home by 9 p. m. Deputy Sheriff Jimmy Curlee and Highway Patrolmen Johnny Price and John Pirkey also went to the scene. The body was taken to the Jackson County Funeral Service. Craig had been an employee of United Gas Pipe Line Co. for many years. Edna—Florrye Brent Crawford, 95, of Edna, died Friday in a local nursing home following a long illness. Ms. Crawford was born at Chappel Hill in Jackson County Dec. 28, 1888. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Wesley Gayle Womens Club and the Texas Business Womens Organization. She was previously employed as Edna city secretary and retired following a 28-year career. Funeral services wil be held at 3 p. m. Sunday at First Methodist Church of Edna with the Rev. Russell Moon, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens of Edna under direction of Jackson County Funeral Service. The Rev. David Murff of Houston will conduct a graveside prayer. KINGSLAND - James “Dale” Crawford, age 85, a resident of Kingsland, TX, died Thursday, March 31, 2016, in the Heart Hospital of Austin. Dale was born in East Point, LA. He is survived by his wife Natalie, children: Roger (Vickie), Donald (Lillian) Nanette Slaton (Gary), 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his older brother, Duane and his first-born daughter, Connie 'CJ'. He had a long and successful career with Mobil Exploration & Producing, starting at the age of 18. He loved the Company and the many friends he made along the way. He retired in 1992 and was very proud when Mobil Oil honored him and his family for 145 years of service beginning with his stepfather Albert Golson and his two sons Roger and Donald Crawford. Donald continued another 24 years, retiring in 2015. He and his wife enjoyed 23 years of retirement to their fullest. They chose Llano, Tx for its beautiful hills and river. He chose a home on the Llano River, where he could share his love for family, friends and food. Every spring, Dale and Natalie would host a Blue Bonnet Picnic weekend for all of his church family and their friends. This fellowship left lasting memories for all involved. His first love for his Lord and Savior provided guidance for him and his family through the years. The 'one thing needful' kept the family close. The funeral service will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, April 5th in Edna, Texas at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Memorial Donation may be made to Living Word Academy of Marble Falls, Texas. Edna—Miss Mary Lee “May” Crawford, 78, resident of Edna for most of her life, died at 12:35 a. m. Monday following a long illness. Miss Crawford was born Aug. 28, 1891, in Chappell Hill, Tex. Edna—Funeral services for William Milton Crawford, 84, of Edna will be held at 11 a. m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Russell Moon officiating. Mr. Crawford was a native of Chappell Hill and lived most his life in Edna. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Methodist Church. He died Monday in a local rest home. Mr. Crawford was born March 11, 1894. He spent several years in El Paso where he owned a business. Burial will be in the Memory Garden of Edna under direction of Jackson County Funeral Service. Edna—Joe George Creppon, 72, retired farmer and resident of Jackson County for the past 41 years, died Tuesday at his home here. He had been ill about two years. Mr. Creppon was the son of the late Henry and Annie Creppon, and was born Feb. 6, 1889, in La Grange. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Thursday at Slavik Funeral Home, with the Rev. J. H. Kellmeyer, pastor of Rosenberg Lutheran Church officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jack Moore, of First Baptist Church of Edna. Survivors include his wife, Mary, and several nieces and nephews.

Edna—Funeral services for Mary Frances Creppon of Edna will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday from Slavik Chapel, with the Rev. Joe Webb officiating. San Antonio—Arlan Conway Crisp, 61, of San Antonio died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1993. He was born Dec. 13, 1931, in Edna to the late Clarence Smith and Lillian L. Gregory Crisp. He married Joan Randall on Sept. 22, 1953, in Edna and was a preacher until 1963. He was an engineer for the Texas Railroad Commission Oil and Gas Division from 1965 to 1980. He was a member of Pecan Valley Church of Christ in San Antonio and Robison Street Church of Christ in Edna. Survivors include: wife, step-mother, Julia Webster Crisp of Edna; daughter, Alana Gale Crisp of Burke, Va.; and son, Alan Dale Crisp of San Antonio. Services: 2 p. m. Edna—Clarence S. Crisp, 82, of Edna died in a local hospital Friday, Oct. 25, 1991, following a short illness. He was born Feb. 10, 1909, in Victoria to the late Robert and Mattie Argo Crisp. He married Julia Wagstaff on April 25, 1968, in Yoakum, by and in the home of Albert Jennings. He was a retired oilfield worker and after retirement worked 11 ½ years as building superintendent for the Ganado Hospital. He was a member of the Robison Street Church of Christ. Funeral services were held for Ray Crisp, 50, well-known Edna resident, at the Church of Christ here Monday at 2:30 p. m. Minister Albert Jennings officiated, and interment was in the Edna Cemetery. Pallbearers were Elton Ling, Clayford Smith, Alfred Carstens, Ollie Gregory, A. J. Davis, and Delbert Callaway. Honorary pallbearers included Oscar Gotthardt, Luther Hamilton, Darrell Hortness, Edgar Janac, James Sappington, Don Johnson, Jack Cooper and Louis Oden. Mr. Crisp was born in Victoria County on Oct. 21, 1911, and moved to Edna about 1925. He had been a Jackson County employee for 16 years and for many years a machine operator for Precinct 3. He passed away suddenly at his home on Asbeck Lane last Saturday morning, following a heart attack. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Crisp of Edna; a daughter, Laverne Robinson of Edna; three sons, Tommy and Glenn of Edna and Bobby Ray of Lolita; three brothers, Clarence of Edna, Lee of Victoria and D. Mr. Robert W. Crisp, a well known Jackson County citizen, passed away at his home in Edna last Sunday afternoon at 6:30 o’clock, after having been in failing health for a number of years. Funeral services were held at the Slavik Funeral Home in Edna Monday afternoon at 4:00 o’clock, with Evangelist Arden H. Lawrence of the Edna Church of Christ officiating. Following the service the remains were laid to rest in the Edna Cemetery.
Mr. Crisp was born January 7, 1867 in the State of Kentucky, and
moved to Texas while still a young man and after residing in
different parts of the state for a number of years, he moved to
Jackson County in 1925 and made his home here since that time.
Mr. Crisp was an honest and upright citizen and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He possessed a kind and courteous disposition and he always had a smile and a kind word for everyone, and, naturally, will be greatly missed by his family as well as a large number of friends. He is survived by his wife, four sons and three daughters. The children are: Messrs. Lee Crisp of Victoria, and Delphus, Clarence and Ray Crisp of Edna, and Mrs. Rosie Smith of Alaska, Mrs. Myrtle King of Vanderbilt and Mrs. Maudean Gandy of Edna, and 19 grandchildren. The bereaved family has the sympathy of everyone.

Edna—Mrs. Irene Crofoot, 39, of 410 S. Hanover, wife of the Rev. George Crofoot Jr., pastor of Edna Presbyterian Church, died at 5:50 a. m. Wednesday in a Ganado hospital following a lingering illness. Mrs. Crofoot, born April 29, 1930, in San Antonio, was a runner-up in the Miss Texas contest in 1947. She was a graduate of Austin High School. She was active in church work and scouting and had lived in Edna three years. Funeral services will be held at 4 p. m. Thursday at Edna Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Lloyd Nixon, pastor of the El Campo Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Jackson County Funeral Service. Members of the Session of Edna Presbyterian Church will be pallbearers. Named as honorary pallbearers are Clint McCarley, Leo Holmes, Ray Simmons and Deacons of Edna Presbyterian Church. The family requests that in lieu of the usual remembrances contributions be made to the church Memorial Fund. Surviving, besides her husband, are her mother, Mrs. J. Gambrell of Houston, her father, L. B. Haynes of San Antonio; a daughter, Cindy Lynn Crofoot, and two sons, Robert and George W. Crofoot III, all of Edna.

Edna—Grant Crolley, 91, of Edna, died Friday, June 8, 2001. He was born April 13, 1910, in Roland, Ark., to the late Hugh Andres and Hattie Harding Crolley. He was retired farmer for Jackson County Grain Elevators in El Toro. He was a member of the Edna Masonic Lodge and First Baptist Church. Survivors: daughter, Lois Whittington of Edna; son, William G. Crolley of Austin; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Edna—Mary Cavitt Crolley, 82, of Edna, formerly of Taft, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1993. She was born May 4, 1911, in Mason to the late Homer F. and Lula May Buster Cavitt. She was a retired bookkeeper for Jackson County Elevators. Mrs. Crolley was a member of Edna Chapter 692 of the Order of the Eastern Star and WMU of First Baptist Church of Edna, where she was also a bookkeeper and Sunday School secretary. Edna—Walter James Crowther, 89, of Edna, died Thursday in an Edna hospital. He was born March 2, 1899, in Vicksburg, Miss. to the late Dr. Edgar Crowther and Ella Knott Crowther. He married Laura Girndt on Dec. 28, 1932, in Mobile, Ala. He was employed with Airway Communication Civil Service for 34 years. He had lived in Jackson County since 1979. He was a past member of Knights of Columbus and American Legion and was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. EH was a veteran of World War I, having served in the Navy. A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. Friday at the Slavik Funeral Home in Edna. Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna with the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens of Edna. Surviving is his wife, Laura Girndt Crowther of Edna.
