Lolita—Melvin L. Casey, 91, of Lolita died Friday in an Edna nursing home. Born Feb. 5, 1894, in Pyawt [Pyatt], Ark., he was a retired pipeline worker and a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Vanderbilt. Funeral services will be held at 3 p. m. Sunday in the Community Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Harry Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita under the direction of Jackson County Funeral Service. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Verna Casey of Lolita; three daughters, Mrs. Audrey Stonecipher of Shreveport, La., Mrs. Lucille Stolhand of Lolita and Mrs. Frances Kerns of Florence, Mont.; six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Port Lavaca—Jose G. Castillo Sr., 75, of Port Lavaca, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999. He was born April 25, 1923, in Sinton, to the late Guadalupe and Adelina Garza-Castillo. He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Bloomington. He served in the 427th U. S. Army Air Force during World War II. Edna—O. B. Ceasar, 63, of Edna, died Friday at his home, following an unexpected illness. Born March 22, 1915 in Jackson County, he was a veteran of World War II and a retired machine operator. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Scruggs United Methodist Church with burial in Chase Cemetery at Morales with the Rev. Billy Young officiating. Funeral services for Mrs. G. P. Champagne were conducted by Rev. Frank Hollan and Rev. T. D. Felts at the Red Bluff Baptist Church Sunday afternoon, February 6th, at 3:00 o’clock. Interment was made in the Red Bluff Cemetery. Mrs. Champagne died Friday afternoon at her home in Victoria. She had been in poor health for two years. Mrs. Champagne was born Dorothy George in Red Bluff in 1927. She was the daughter of Mr. C. R. George and the late Mrs. George. In her early teens she joined the Red Bluff Baptist Church. September 26, 1946, she married G. P. Champagne. Her many friends will always remember her as a true Christian. Pallbearers were Robert H. Watkins, C. O. Donahue, Vernon Champagne, Marion Salito, J. Edna—Margaret Mary Chance, 61, of Edna died Saturday in a Ganado nursing home following a long illness. She was born Oct. 24, 1920 in Chathum, N. J. She had been a nurse at Mauritz Memorial Hospital in Ganado, Care Inn Nursing Home of Ganado and De Tar Hospital of Victoria. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Edna. He was a chemical process operator for DuPont Plastics. He was a U. S. Navy veteran and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 3421, American Legion Post 346 of Ganado, and St. Agnes Catholic Church. J., Danielle (Rick) Wright of Bay City, Suzanne (Doug) Davidson of League City, and Teresa Mader of Cedar Park; sons, Frank T. (Joan) Mader Jr. of Waco and Andy (Pam) Mader of Lolita; sisters, Janette Hacking of Arizona and Judy Amburgey of Washington; brother, Perry Clark of Oregon; and 11 grandchildren. He died Monday in a Victoria hospital after a lengthy illness. He was a farmer and rancher, a member of the Texas Cattlemen’s Association and was named Jackson County Farmer of the Year. He was a 1938 graduate of EHS and a member of First Baptist Church of Lolita. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Disabled Veterans and an honorary member of VFW. Mrs. Clower was born Aug. 13, 1926 at Olney. She died Saturday in a Houston hospital. Lolita—JoAnn Bertha Cobb, 48, of Lolita, died at her residence Friday following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church of Lolita with Mrs. Cobb’s uncle, the Rev. E. J. Oehlke of Shiner, officiating. Burial will be in Red Bluff Cemetery under direction of Jackson County Funeral Service. Mrs. Cobb was born Sept. 3, 1938, in Goliad County to John and Emma Schlinke. She was a retired bookkeeper and member of First United Methodist Church of Lolita. Surviving are her husband, Hershel G. Cobb Jr. of Lolita; her parents; a son, Thomas Earl Fales of Victoria; and a sister Charline Harring of Victoria. In lieu of the usual remembrances, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society or to the donor’s charity of choice. Pallbearers will be Arthur F. Lolita—Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Vera Woodruff Cobbs, 76, of Lolita will be held at 2:30 p. m. Thursday at the Lolita Baptist Church, with the Rev. Raymond Quick and the Rev. Glen Willingham officiating. Burial will be in the Red Bluff Cemetery, under direction of Slavik Funeral Home. Mrs. Cobbs was born June 4, 1896 and came to this county in 1912. She served awhile as justice of the peace, completing a term of her first husband, the late A. P. Woodruff. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Baptist Church, and a former member of the Lolita Water Board. She died Tuesday in a Ganado rest home. Surviving are her husband, Frank Cobbs of Lolita, a son, Tracy M. Woodruff of Hull, four daughters, Mrs. Hilda McFeron of New Gulf, Mrs. Lou Ellen Argo of Edna, Mrs. Arlene Elizabeth Klaus of Lolita and Mrs. Jeanette Hamilton of Seadrift, three step-children, T. F. Mr. Cobbs was born May 1, 1897, in Cisco. He was a member and past deacon of the First Baptist Church of Lolita and was a retired farmer. Mr. Cobbs was a veteran of World War I. He served on the Industrial Independent School District board of trustees for 25 years; the Lolita Water Board for 15 years; and was a 20-year member of VFW Post No. 8556. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Sunshine Root of Houston and Mrs. Jessie Deyton of Point Comfort; a son, T. F. Services were to be held at 2:30 p. m. today at Lolita Baptist Church for Miss Lela Flora Cobbs, 80, a resident of Jackson County since 1912. Minister H. O. Bilderback was to officiate. Burial was to be held in the Red. Bluff Cemetery with Slavik Funeral home in charge.
Miss Cobbs was
born Nov. 2, 1885, in Hartsell, Alabama, and came to this county
in 1912. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Miss Cobbs
died in Victoria She is survived by two brothers, Frank Cobbs of Lolita and Cloyd Cobbs of Fort Worth.

Vanderbilt—Carl Edward Coleman, Sr., 63, of Vanderbilt, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, the 8th day of August , 2013. He was born July 19, 1950 to Hebron and Martha Coleman. He is survived by his children, Christopher Coleman (Stephanie) of Bryan, Carl Coleman Jr. (Tabatha) of Port Lavaca, Jennifer Partridge (Joel) of Spring, Brandon Coleman (Nicole) of Spring, Tonya Wollcott (Chris) of Arkansas and Nancy Noonan of Maine. He is also survived by his brothers, William Coleman (Bonnie) of Edna, Clay Coleman (Grace) of Sugarland; his sisters, Connie Wheeley (David) of Cuero and Laverne Hudson (Nolan) of Cuero; and 16 grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his father, Hebron "Lloyd" Coleman and mother Martha "Evelyn" Coleman; and a grandson, Lincoln Coleman. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday August 10, 2013 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Slavik Funeral Home. The service is scheduled for Sunday August 11, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Slavik Funeral Home, 209 N. Allen, Edna, Texas. Burial will be held at Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita, Texas. Services are under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home, 361-782-2152.

Vanderbilt—Hebron “Loyd” Coleman, 78, of Vanderbilt, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998. He was born March 3, 1920, in Russellville, Ark., to the late William and Vida Peaslee Coleman. He was a mechanic and operator of a service station, a member of Lolita VFW and served in the US Army. Survivors: wife, Martha Johnson Coleman; daughters, Connie Woods and Vida Shelton, both of Vanderbilt; sons, Carl Coleman of Sallisaw, Okla., William Coleman of Lolita and Clay Coleman of Port Lavaca; brothers, Eugene “Buster” Coleman of Detroit, Mich., Benjamin Coleman of Albuquerque, N. M., and Ralph Coleman of Vacaville, Calif., 27 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by: son, Kenneth Johnson. Funeral services were to be held for Mrs. J. B. Compton of Lolita at the Baptist Church there this afternoon at 2:30. Rev. W. B. Chandler of Yorktown was to officiate, with interment to be in the Red Bluff Cemetery. Pallbearers were to be Frank Cobb, Roey Thedford, Vernon Thedford, William Thedford, D. J. Walker and Clem Fisher. Mrs. Compton, 83, passed away Tuesday at the hospital in Ganado. She was born Feb. 25, 1872 in Mississippi, and had lived in Texas more than 70 years. She had been a resident of Jackson County since 1910. Mrs. Compton is survived by the following children: Mrs. Q. R. Thedford, Lolita; Cecil Compton, Houston; Calvin Compton, Lindrith, N. M.; Mrs. C. W. McFeron, LaWard; Jack Compton, Bishop; Mrs. Ola Bankston, West; Mrs. Keeton, Dallas and C. W. Carrradine, Post. She also leaves these brothers and sisters: George Pierce, Marthaville; C. H. Pierce, Fort Worth; Mrs. H. L. Chambless, Hillsboro; and 26 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. One son, Jack Compton, formerly was superintendent of the Ganado public schools.

Edna—Funeral services for Mrs. Addie Bell Cook, 94, of Morales will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Pat Griffin officiating. Burial will be in the Chase Cemetery under direction of the Cook Butler Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Raymond and Damon Cook, Ellsworth Yates, Joe Norman, Altone Robinson and James Plummer. Mrs. Cook was born June 4, 1884 in Lavaca County and lived many years in this county. She died Monday at the home of a son after a long illness. She was a daughter of the late Jim and Ella Washington of Jackson County. Lolita—Norman Glenn Crisp, 53, of Lolita, died Monday, June 14, 1999. He was born Oct. 7, 1945, in Arenosa Community, to the late Ray and Ruth Browning Crisp. He was a science teacher at Lolita Jr. High, having served 30 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a member of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association, Science Mentor of Texas, Coastal Conservation Association, Amateur Athletic Union and was little league coach and track coach. Survivors: wife, Charlotte Doolittle Crisp; sons, Glenn Crisp of Victoria and Justin Crisp of Lolita; sister, Laverne Robinson of Edna; and brothers, Bob Crips of Inez and Tom Crisp of Port Lavaca. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p. m. tonight at Rosewood Funeral Chapels. The body will be at Lolita Baptist Church from 1 p. m. until 2 p. m. Wednesday. Services will be 2 p. m.
