Ganado—Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Bacak, 77, of Ganado will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday from the Psencik Chapel, with the Rev. Philip Riley officiating. Burial will be in the Ganado City Cemetery under direction of the Psencik Funeral Home. Mrs. Bacak was born Jan. 12, 1896 in Hardin County, Tex. She died Saturday in a Ganado hospital. Surviving are her husband, Will Bacak of Ganado; four daughters, Mrs. Emma Lee Frasher of Liverpool, Tex., Mrs. Bertha Williams of Houston, Mrs. Lois Knupple of Ganado, and Mrs. Bessie Nelson of Webb City, Okla.; two sons, Charlie of Alvin and Robert of Sanford, Fla.; sister, Mrs. Zell Clark of Silsbee; several half-sisters and half-brothers, 25 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Ganado—Funeral services for William Bacak, 95, of Ganado, who died Thursday in an Edna hospital, will begin at 10 a. m. Saturday at Ganado Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Elmer Beck of First Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Ganado City Cemetery. He was born June 1, 1895, in Jasper County. He was a heavy engine operator for Texaco Oil Co. for 17 years. He had resided in Jackson County for 30 years. He is survived by two daughters, Bertha Margauete Williams of Ganado and Bessie Nelson of Shidler, Okla.; two sons, Charlie Earl Bacak of Alvin and Robert Ray Bacak of Sanford, Fla.; a brother, Charlie Bacak of San Antonio; and 24 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Felipa Flores Baez went to be with her Lord at the age of 67 on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020. She was born in Refugio County on May 9, 1953 to Guadalupe B. Flores and Pedro Flores Sr. Felipa was so proud of her children and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren equally. In her younger years she was very active in her church and was dedicated to working for the Kingdom of God. Everybody that knew her loved her and her Thanksgiving stuffing and hot tamales she made. She is survived by her four children, Elias Guerrero, Tommy Villegas, Angela Villegas, Tony Villegas; eight grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, two brothers, and one sister. She is preceded in death by husband Nester Trego Baez, parents, four brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19 at the First Assembly of God Church in Edna .

Nestor Trejo Baez went to be with his Lord at the age of 66 on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020. He was born in El Aguacate San Luis Potosi Mexico on Feb. 26, 1954 to Gregoria Trejo Baez and Catrino Baez. He enjoyed spending time with his loved ones and was known for loving to fish and work on anything that needed fixing. Close friends and family knew him as “Shorty.” Nestor was very involved and faithful in working for the Kingdom of God. He is survived by his four children, Elias Guerrero, Tommy Villegas, Angela Villegas, Tony Villegas, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and four brothers. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Services were held at 3 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church in Edna on Dec. 19, 2020.

Billye Barker, 89, of Wharton, TX passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, October 29, 2020. She was born on January 24, 1931 in Ganado, TX to the late Howard and Thelma Rogers Reeves. Billye was raised in the Ganado area and graduated from Ganado High School. She married William Barker on August 20, 1949 in Ganado. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2007. Billye enjoyed playing Bridge and domino games. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty C Wallace. She is survived by her daughter, Teena Caldwell and husband, Dr. Larry Caldwell of Sugar Land, and son, Tim Barker and wife, Pam of Wharton, grandchildren, Lauren Worsham and husband, Matt, Jason Barker and wife, Sarah, Jill Medve and husband, Joseph and Jarett Barker, great grandchildren, Saylor and Sloane Worsham, Tyson and Presley Barker, Blake Boenisch, Harper Medve, Paige Davis, Bailey Davis, and Brinley Konvicka. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2020 starting at 9:30 a.m. at Wharton Funeral Home with funeral services starting at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Wallace, Matt Worsham, Blake Boenisch, Jarett Barker, Jason Barker and Joseph Medve The family would like to thank Zoey, Yaya, Mary Ann and Melissa for all their loving care. After a long hard battle with lung cancer, David DeWayne Bartels has won the fight and has gone to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at the age of 66. David was born on Thursday, September 2, 1954 in McGregor, Texas to Janet and Clarence "Red" Bartels. David is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, JoAnn "Cissy" Bartels. David left behind his three children; Gary Garbs, Misty Bartels and Pamela Bartels and her spouse Bryan Bachus, He also left behind one brother, Michael and Tausha Bartels, and one sister, Cheryl Mitchell, also his twelve grandchildren, Lawrence Garbs, Jacob Garbs, Chelsea Garbs, Amber Garbs, Lance Garbs, Mackenzie Garbs, Bayleigh Snider, James Snider, III, Keely Snider, Gabrielle Longoria, Logan Bartels, and Dakota Bartels, and his four great-grandchildren, Patricia Garbs, Serenity Buchanan Garbs, Ryder McNabb and Copelan McNabb. David is preceded in death by his parents and his older sister Linda Mier. Paulbearers are James Snider, Gary Garbs, Jacob Garbs, Lance Garbs, Erik Bartels, Bryan Bachus, Jason January and Caleb Koch. Robert B. Beard, Sr., 70 years, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020, he was born on Saturday, October 7, 1950 in Ganado to Wesley and Mary Beard. Robert is survived by his daughters, Misty Beard and Courtney Duarte and her husband Levi, her sons, Wesley and his wife Angie, Robert Beard, Jr. and his wife Kelly, Cord Beard and his wife Chelsea, and stepson, Jeremy Hicks, his sister Belinda Otto and her husband Bennie, his wife Michele Beard, also his amazing sixteen grandchildren; Ian Hicks, Kelsey Beard, Bailey Beard, Aubryn Jerry, Ariana Callis, Tanner Sexton, Kallie Landry, Rhemy Lanah, Aylah Beard, Michah Beard, Coley Beard, Conner Beard, Braxton Duarte and Blaine Duarte. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Brown Koenig and Wesley Gordon Beard. Robert will be dearly missed by all his friends and family. Ganado—Graveside services for Mrs. Omadell Beasley, 59, of Thibodaux, La., will be held at 10 a. m. Thursday in the Ganado City Cemetery with the Rev. Herbert Friedrick officiating. The Ganado Funeral Home will be in charge of local arrangements. Pallbearers will be Bob and William Hultquist, Gary Mumford, Steven Strauss, T. J. Howell and Herbert Schomburg. Mrs. Beasley was a native of Ganado and lived in Jackson County for 25 years. She died Monday in New Orleans, La. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church in Thibodeaux on Wednesday. The body will be in the Ganado Funeral Home Thursday from 8 a. m. until the 10 a. m. graveside service.

Wanda Bednarz was born November 5, 1942 to Davis and Mildred George. She passed away on December 15, 2020. She was laid to rest in Manor, TX, under the care of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, Austin, TX. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Davis and Verna Mae George and L. J. (Slim) and Mildred Pope, a granddaughter, Haley Sharee Hall and Son-in-law, Hilario Rangel. Wanda is survived by a brother, Marvin George, sisters, Gail Walker, Jaclyn Sessions and Ruby Durham. Also, daughters Renee Rangel, Robin Bednarz and Kristi Bednarz; Grandchildren Heath Bednarz, Hondo Rangel, Heather Perez, Houston Rangel, Courtney Duarte, Cord Beard, Mickalla Ashley, and Jacey Ashley, along with 16 great-grandchildren.

Ganado—Josef Belicek, 90, a retired farmer, died Sunday in a Ganado hospital. Born May 1, 1878, in Europe, Mr. Belicek had resided in the Ganado area most of his life. Funeral services will be held at 3 p. m. Monday at Psencik Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joseph Kubicek officiating. Burial will be in Ganado City Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rosie Belicek; four sons, Joe of El Campo, Frank of Ganado, Emil of Houston, and Bill of Edna; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Janca of Ganado, Mrs. Rose Orsag of Bay City and Mrs. Albina Phillips of El Campo; 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Kevin Nicholas "Shaggy" Berry left this world at age 43 on June 24, 2021, in Victoria, Texas after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He lived life to the fullest and loved everyone in his life. He adored his wife and their dogs and he was a very skilled cook, always grilling or coming up with interesting ideas for dishes. Kevin is survived by his loving wife, Leslie Murray of Victoria, Texas, his father, Raymond Ray Berry, Jr., of Edna, Texas, his mother, Glenna Morris, of Lavon, Texas, his Uncles; Ronnie Berry of Edna, Texas and Dannie Newman of Elkhart, Texas and Aunt Linda Laitkep and her husband Bernard of Wharton, Texas. He has been preceded in death by his brothers, Shannon Berry and Jesse Morris, his Uncle Lonnie Newman, his Aunt Jeanette Newman, and his Grandparents, Hilda Newman, Raymond Berry, Sr., Juanita Dufner and Henry Weller. Ganado--Services were held at First Christian Church in Ganado Tuesday at 2 p. m. for Eugene Black, 86, retired mail carrier, who died in Houston Sunday, Rev. Charles Moss officiated and burial was in Ganado City Cemetery, Psencik Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. Mr. Black was born January 11, 1877, at Pulaski. He lived in Ganado many years, leaving in 1929. He was one of the members who built the present Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Sallie of Houston; a son, Raymond of LaPorte; a daughter, Mrs. Ermine Grace Worth of Houston; a brother, Elwood Black of San Antonio; four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Lennard Ross, Chester Spencer and Lukie Sanford of Ganado, H. J. Dahlstrom of Edna, Marcus Worth of Dallas and Bill Lowry of Houston.

Ganado—Wallace Leroy Blagg, 77, of Ganado, died at a Ganado nursing home Saturday following a lengthy illness. Born Aug. 29, 1904, in Bennington, Okla., he was a retired Texaco employee. Graveside services will be held 3 p. m. Monday at the Ganado City Cemetery, with the Rev. Bernard Ritchea of the First United Methodist Church of Ganado officiating. Ganado—Paul Eugene Beopple, 78, of Ganado died Wednesday in a local hospital after a long illness. Born Feb. 11, 1903 in Covington, Okla., he was a retired gauger for Exxon. He resided in Jackson County since 1929. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a. m. at the Ganado Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Russell Moon officiating. Burial will be in Ganado City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Freddie, Jack, Pat and Tommy Boepple, J. W. Harper and Edward Vonderau. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jean Young and Mrs. Burene Spalek both of Ganado; a son, Paul E. Boepple Jr. of Victoria; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Marjorie Nell Fenner Bolling was born July 11, 1923 in Cordele, Texas. She began her eternal party with Jesus April 29, 2021 at Clarewood House in Houston at the age of 97. Marjorie Nell lived on the family farm in Cordele until fourth grade, when her family moved to Edna. After high school, she attended the University of Texas, majoring in accounting. She achieved many honors, graduating Beta Gamma Sigma, the business equivalent of Phi Beta Kappa. She was always proud of her burnt orange heritage. After college, Nell moved to Houston and worked for Humble Oil in Accounting. She enjoyed being home with her children for ten years until 1956, when she began a 38 year career with Arthur Andersen and Company, serving as the controller for the Houston office. Nell was active at First United Methodist Church since 1943. She had many dear friends there, particularly in the Adelphi Class. She was elected Lifetime Member of the church’s administrative board. Nell was active in the Houston Business Forum and was elected the Woman of the Year. She was a charter member of the Heritage Club board and also served on the Clarewood board 28 years. In her free time, Nell enjoyed cooking, playing bridge, an traveling, but her favorite times were spent enjoying her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Fenner Sr, her brothers Buzz Fenner and wife Edwina, Donnie Fenner, her sister LaNoe Scherer and husband Paul. She is survived by her sister-in-law Fern Fenner and her children LaNoe Westheimer and husband Robert, Bob Bolling and wife Susan, grandchildren David Westheimer and wife J’aime, Lisa Drever and husband Nathan, Melanie Bolling Schmidt and husband Rob, Harrison Bolling and wife Whitney, ten great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family is grateful to the Christian Companions and Clarewood staff for the excellent and loving care they gave Nell. There will be a memorial service at Clarewood House, 7400 Clarewood Drive in Houston Friday, June 11th at 10 am. Rikki Borden of Edna, Texas went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 7, 2020, surrounded by her family in Edna, Texas at the age of 76. She was born on December 27, 1943 in Lancing, Michigan to the late Donald Charles Teachout and Erna Albrecht. Rikki moved to Corpus Christi when she was a teenager and graduated from Mary Carroll High School. She met the love of her life, J.D. Borden in Corpus. They were married on October 16, 1965. Rikki was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed being a housewife and raising her two children. Rikki’s pride and joy were her grandchildren. Her face always lit up when she would talk about them. Rikki was a huge animal lover as well. When the family moved to Pearland in 1980, J.D. bought her horses making a lifelong dream come true. Even today, her love of horses is obvious throughout her home. Rikki loved animals of all kinds. She especially enjoyed talking about Fuzzy, her pet fox when she was a child. She also enjoyed spending time outside gardening and doing yardwork. Rikki is survived by her daughter, Neeco Garza (Michael); son, John Borden II; sister, Elizabeth Preston; brother, Dick Teachout; grandchildren, Madison Garza and fiancé Vance Edwards, Matthew Garza, John David Borden III, Kelcee Borden Wolfinbarger (Michael), and Alyssa Borden.

Surviving are her husband, of Ganado; a sister, Beatrice Ross of Ganado; and a brother, Cecil Gandy of Ganado.

Ganado—Marion Agnes Brewer, 74, of Victoria, formerly of Ganado, died Friday in a Victoria hospital following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Mrs. Brewer was born June 22, 1910, in Elton, La., daughter of John and Homer Henrietta Anderson. She was a retired third grade teacher and member of First Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Laure Brewer of Victoria; a son, Marvin Morrow of Ganado; a sister, Lucille Lemoine of Ganado; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Edna--Funeral services for Sinclair Brooks, 82, of Markham, a native of Jackson County, will be held at 2 p. m. Friday from the Shiloh Baptist Church here, with the Rev. H. T. Pallbearers will be Ned and Ned Ellis Brooks, James Christopher, O'Neal Green, Willie Hill and Howard Rhoder Sr. Mr. Brooks, a retired farmer, was born in this county June 28, 1891. He lived here until 20 years ago, when he moved to Markham. He was a Baptist, and died Monday in a Bay City rest home. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Nancy Christopher of San Antonio; four sons, Ned Brooks of Markham, the Rev. Leonard Brooks of LaMarque, and Reilly and Curtis Brooks of Los Angeles, Calif.; eight sisters and four brothers, and 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ganado—Marian Chamrad Brown, 69, of Ganado died Friday in a Victoria nursing home following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Mrs. Brown was born Aug. 23, 1915, in Davey. She retired from teaching at La Ward Elementary School in 1980 following a lengthy career. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ganado. She served as a member of the U. S. Army WACs during World War II. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Brown, who died in June 1980. Survivors include five daughters, Toni Garner of Houston, Vicki Shumbera of Wharton, Marchi McCartney of Oklahoma City, Okla., Cindi Howell of Victoria, and Kristi Browning of Dickinson; a son, Wood Wilson Brown of Ganado; two sisters, Gertrude Peters of Ganado and Christine Brandes of Fredericksburg; a brother, Albert Chamrad of Beeville; and six grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Joe Bonot, J. H. Goins, Steven Tackett, Woodrow Brandes Jr., Donnie Tegeler and Adoloph Gallegos.

Ganado—Woodrow W. Brown, 68, of Ganado, died in a Ganado hospital Friday. Born in West, Texas on April 26, 1912, Mr. Brown was the manager of Preismeyer’s Store in Ganado for about 20 years. He was a member of the Ganado Rotary Club, the American Legion, First United Methodist Church and the Jackson County Board of Development. Funeral services will be 4:30 p. m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bernard Ritchea and the Rev. Carl Israel officiating. Burial will be in Ganado City Cemetery, under the direction of Ganado Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, Marian Chamrad Brown of Ganado; five daughters, Mrs. Toni Garner of Houston, Mrs. Vicki Shumbera of Wharton, Mrs. Marchi Zapatka of Midland, Mrs. Cindi Howell of Victoria and Mrs. Kristi Browning of Dickinson; a son, Wood Wilson Brown of Ganado; a brother, Clifford Brown of San Antonio; a sister, Mrs. Ada Moore of Baytown; two grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren. Pallbearers will be Frederick, Ronnie and Harry Preismeyer, Joe Bonnot, J. H. Goins and Buddy Fleniken. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the American Legion.

Robert Raymond Browning, 71, of Lolita passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2020 after a lengthy illness. He was born on Sunday, January 16, 1949 in Jackson County to Orville Ray Browning and Corrine Ray Browning Reeves. Robert served his county in the United States Army in Vietnam. In August of 1984, Robert married the love of his life, Jeri L. Mohr, and together they raised their four children. Robert is survived by his wife Jeri L. Mohr Browning, daughter, Emily C. Knight and her husband Jason, daughter-in-law Laura Browning, sons, Joseph and Jennifer Browning, Daniel and Jessie Browning and Mark and Stephanie Browning, his thirteen grandchildren; Hailey Browning, Charlotte Gray Browning, Mason Browning, Auri Knight, Bixby Browning, Reagan Browning, Farrah Browning, Ava Knight, Mabel Browning, Max Browning, Elena Browning, Cora Knight and Luke Browning, sisters, Beth Reed and husband Doug, Brenda Allen and husband Dan, brother Carl Browning and wife Carol. Robert is preceded in death by his parents; Orville Ray Browning and Corrine Knoernschild Browning Reeves. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, October 13th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Edna, There will be a private family funeral service with burial to follow. Ganado--Funeral services for Mrs. Leona Buffaloe, 77, of Ganado, will be held at 3:30 p. m. Sunday from First Baptist Church here, with the Rev. Rick Dubrox officiating. Burial will be in the Ganado City Cemetery under direction of the Psencik Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Behynie Boyd, Charles L. Smith, John Dittrich, Wayne Marshall, C. W. Silliman and Dan Janica. Mrs. Buffaloe was born March 26, 1896 at Wills Point. She died Saturday in a local hospital. Surviving are two daughters, Merdelle Bacheller of Houma, La. and Lenita Skalicky of Ganado; four sons, Eugene of Victoria, Glenn of Houston, Jack of Corpus Christi and Kenneth of San Antonio; a sister, Juanita Howell of Dallas; a brother, Cecil Hargrove of Wills Point, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Arthur Eugene "Gene" Bundren, 87, of Edna went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, January 28, 2020. Gene was born in February 1932 to Thomas and Lydia Bundren. Although Gene was born in Hebbronville, Texas he was raised in Refugio and graduated from Refugio High School. He also served his country by serving in the U. S. Army for 2 years. Gene is survived by his wife Margaret of 63 years, and his son; Mark Bundren. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, brother Thomas Bundren, Jr. and sister Shirley Bundren. There will be a visitation on Saturday, February 1, 2020 beginning at 9:00 am, with Rosary being recited at 9:30 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Father Michael Petering officiating, interment will follow at Lolita Cemetery. Alice Macha Bures, 89 of Ganado, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021 in Victoria. Alice was born on Tuesday, September 29, 1931 in Jackson County to Charlie and Mary Sless Macha. Alice was a loving wife and mother, she also worked at Wal Mart for twelve years, and was a devout catholic, and member of Assumption Catholic Church in Ganado. Visitation will be held at Assumption Catholic Church, March 23rd, 2021 beginning at 9:am with Rosary being recited at 9:30 am. Funeral Mass will be held on March 23rd, 2021, at 10:00 am at Assumption Catholic Church with Father Kirby Hlavaty officiating. Interment will follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery. Alice is survived by her children; Dennis Bures and wife, Cindy of Ganado, David Bures and wife Renee of Ganado, Stephen Bures of Ganado, Gerald Bures, Jr. and wife Kelly of Morristown, TN, Sandra Martin and husband John of Brownwood, Cathy Hafernick and husband Rory of Bay City, Cynthia Bures of Ganado, and Mary Stavinoha and husband Craig of East Bernard. Also eighteen Grandchildren, Thirty-One Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; Charlie and Mary Sless Macha, husband Gerald A. Bures, Sr., and two brothers; Raymond Macha and Willie Macha, and her sister, Rosa Lee Vyvial. Pallbearers will be; Howard Wood of Conroe, Derek Hafernick of Canyon Lake, David Lee Bures, Jr. of Ganado and Justin Bures of Vanderbilt, Zachary Stavinoha of Katy, and Kyle Bures Guerrero of Ganado.
