Edna—Adella Bankhead, 93, of Edna died Saturday in a local hospital following a long illness. She was born June 23, 1895, in Edna, daughter of the late Will Lane Sr. and Mariah Diggs Lane. She was a member of Heroines of Jericho and Shiloh Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 1 p. m. Tuesday at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. G. L. Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Sayles Cemetery under the direction of Cook-Butler Funeral Home of Edna. Surviving is a sister, Ida Jones of Kingsville. Pallbearers will be Roger Lane, Hubert Fisher, Freddie Edwards, James Robinson, Earl Bryant and Floyd Allen.

Edna—Beverly Barnes, 45, of Victoria died Friday, Sept. 29, 1995. She was born Aug. 5, 1950, in Edna to the late Alvin and Lizzie B. McCullough Turner. She was a homemaker and a member of Church of God in Christ. Edna—Festus Dalton Barnes, 42, of Corpus Christi died Friday at his home following a long illness. He was born Sept. 7, 1946, son of M. B. Barnes of Victoria and Ora Mae Hayes Butler of Corpus Christi. He was a truck driver for an oil field equipment company. Funeral services will be at 10 a. m. Monday at Scruggs United Methodist Church of Edna. Burial will follow in the Sayles Cemetery under the direction of Cook-Butler Funeral Home of Edna. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his step-father, Henry Butler of Corpus Christi; two sons, Festus Barnes II and Marc Barnes, both of Corpus Christi; two brother; five sisters; and maternal grandmother, Ora Mae Ware of Edna. Edna—Maxine Barnes, 58, of Edna died Wednesday evening in a Houston hospital. She was born March 18, 1930, in Midway, daughter of the late George and Rosetta Randle Turner. Adriana Selene Bermea, of Edna, was prematurely called to be with our Lord at the short age of 31, on the afternoon of July 8, 2018, after an arduous year and a half battling cancer. Adriana finally found relief and peacefully took her last breath surrounded by those she loved the most. Adriana will be remembered by those closest to her as an indisputable example of strength and perseverance. Always a loving mother, wife, sister, daughter, and aunt she leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and family values. Adriana is survived by her loving husband; of 5 years, Derrick Bermea; parents, Ruben and Lucrecia Sanchez; daughter, Mia Bermea; son, Braden Martinez; sisters, Gaby Guillen, Maria Tejeda, and Alex Tejeda; father-in-law, Johnny Hernandez; mother-in-law, Stephanie Hernandez; numerous nieces and nephews. Miss Boston was born June 1, 1951 in Jackson County, and moved to San Antonio about two years ago. She died Sunday in a hospital there after a lingering illness. Edna—Mrs. Leonia Brown, well-known retired school teacher, died about 1 a. m. Saturday in a local hospital from burns suffered at 12:30 p. m. Friday when her clothing caught fire at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Monday from Shiloh Baptist Church, with the Rev. R. A. Hick officiating. Burial will be in the Sayles Cemetery under direction of Cook Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Louis Barnes, Gerald Brooks, Ralph Robinson, Alton Robinson, Frederick Patterson and Robert Reed, all former students of Mrs. Brown. She was a native of Jackson County, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dean, and attended what is now called Prairie View College and then took her degree from Paul Quinn College. She taught school some 40 years, mostly at the old Carver School in Edna, but also several years both at Viduari and at Refugio before her retirement. Investigators said she suffered second and third degree burns over most of her body Friday when her clothing caught fire as she was burning grass along the fence at her home using an inflammable liquid. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Ernest (Lois) Dixon of Topeka, Kan., four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In lieu of flowers the family requests those how desire may make a memorial contribution to Shiloh Baptist Church.

EDNA—Taylor Butler, 89, of Edna died Tuesday, July 6, 1993. He was born July 13, 1903, in Edna to the late John and Maidonia Edwards Butler. He was a member of True Holiness Church in Garwood. Survivors: wife, Annie Butler; daughters, Leoma Butler, Lucelia Jones and Doris Butler, all of Houston; son, Leo C. Butler of Edna; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation: noon today until service time Friday at Cook-Butler Funeral Home. Services: 1 p. m. Friday at Shiloh Baptist Church, the Rev. C. W. Whettstone officiating. Burial: Sayles Cemetery, Cook-Butler Funeral Home, Edna, 283-3821. Pallbearers: Sterling Jones, James Hampton, Michael Nalls, Malcolm C. Patche, Kingsley Adauaka and David Wehttstone.
