JAMES WACHTER, 18, of Flagstaff, died Saturday, April 3, 2004. He was born May 3, 1985. He grew up in Flagstaff, attending Weitzel Elementary and Mount Elden Middle School and graduated from Coconino High School in 2003. His spirit for life is known by his family, friends and all who knew him. He is survived by his parents, Robby and Vicki; brother Steven; sisters Robyn and Jaci Stewart; and his grandmothers Shirley Hershkowitz Wachter and Martha Winkler, uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Bobby, his grandfathers and a great-grandma. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Route 66. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Norvel Owens Mortuary. A Graveside service will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m., at Wickenburg Cemetery, Wickenburg. Arrangements are under the direction of Norvel Owens Mortuary, Flagstaff and Frey Funeral Home, Wickenburg.

ELMER WALKER of Bagdad Summoned
ELMER C. WALKER, flotation mill operator for the Cypress Mine in Bagdad, died suddenly at his home in that town Sunday of a heart attack. His body lay in state at Wickenburg Chapel Tuesday and then was taken to Russellville, near Dragoon, Ariz., where graveside rites were conducted Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Walker was born July 4, 1902, in Texas Canyon, Ariz. Surviving are the widow Katharine Margaret of Bagdad; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Scott of Fruitland, N.M., Mrs. Thelma Whitmire of Safford, and Mrs. Mary Ann McGinn of Tucson; one son, Troy Walker of San Miguel; one sister, Mrs. Mabel Herron of Superior; and three brothers, Bert and Barney of Superior and Dudley of Tucson.

JAMES RAY WALKER, formerly of Castle Hot Springs, Ariz., died Dec. 15 in Grants Pass, Ore. He was born in Alton, Ill., Feb. 24, 1939 and was 61 years old. Jim met and married Sandra Sue Bennett in Georgetown, Ill. on Sept. 28, 1959. They were soon blessed with two sons, Derek Ray and Scott Anthony. Jim moved his family to Arizona in 1966 and lived in Phoenix about six years before settling in Castle Hot Springs, near Lake Pleasant. He lived there about 28 years before following his dream of "Oregon or Bust" and found his Grants Pass, Ore. home. Jim worked as a welder, miner, silversmith, loved gardening and looking for blue rocks in Castle Creek. He really enjoyed vending and visiting at Park and Swaps -- the people and stuff were really neat -- and he always found time to share Christ with someone else. He was a man that believed in and followed Christ and would plant a seed wherever he went and pray that it would grow. The Lord blessed Jim with a wonderful family -- his wife Sandra of Grants Pass, Ore.; son Derek and wife Corine and their children Sarah and Justin Ray Walker of Castle Hot Springs; son Scott and wife Kelly and their son Anthony Joseph Walker of Glendale, Ariz. He also has a brother John L. Walker of Florida. Jim was welcomed home by his parents, John R. and Esther Mae Walker; a brother, Robert L. Walker; and a grandson, Michael Lawrence Walker. For comfort we look to John 14:1-6, "I prepare a place for you ... none come to the Father, but through me." In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. Memorial services will be private.

AGED MORRISTOWN RESIDENT CALLED
Funeral services were held at the Wickenburg Chapel Friday morning of last week for JESSE FRANKLIN WALLACE, 71-Year-old resident of the Morristown area for the past 40 years. He passed away at his home in Morristown the previous Wednesday. Rev. W. E. BUSH of the First Baptist church here conducted the funeral services, with interment in the Wickenburg cemetery. Surviving are the widow, two sisters and one brother.

GRACE WALLEN of Sun City and a former resident of Wittmann, died Jan. 5 in Sun City. She was 92. Mrs. Wallen was born in 1908 in Omaha, Neb. She lived in Wittmann for more than 20 years and attended St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Wickenburg. She was active in the Wittman Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, BROR WALLEN.

BUD F. WALRADT of Wickenburg, died Feb. 4 at Boswell Memorial Hospital in Sun City. He was 81. Mr. WALRADT was born Aug. 9, 1919 in Caldwell, Idaho. He had lived in Arizona for the past 24 years. Bud grew up in Caldwell and served in World War II. He was stationed at Ft. Francis E. Warren Army Air Corps Base in Cheyenne, where he met and married Joyce Cross. They were married for 59 years. They were married in the Arragon Chapel on the base on Dec. 7, 1941. Bud was in the D-Day invasion of France, and he received the Purple Heart. He was discharged June 22, 1945. Bud drove a Greyhound bus for 23 years out of Cheyenne. He retired in October 1977, and the couple moved to Arizona. Bud was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, VFW, Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion, all of Cheyenne. He was an accomplished cabinet builder and wood carver. Survivors include his wife, Joyce WALRADT; sons Dennis of Cheyenne, Wyo. and Dean of Dallas, Texas; brothers Alfred of Caldwell and George of Boise, Idaho; grandchildren Shane and wife Katy of Ft. Bliss, Texas, and Shae of Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne; and great-grandson Ashton Alamo of Cheyenne. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Grace WALRADT of Pocatello, Idaho, and a baby granddaughter. As of Bud's wishes, there will be no services. Cremation has taken place. Friends may contribute in Bud Walradt's memory to the American Heart Association or a charity of their choice.

HUGO WALTERS KILLED BY ACCIDENTAL FALL
Funeral services for Hugo WALTERS, 33, who died Tuesday from the effect of injuries received in an accident at the Humboldt smelter at Humboldt, were held this afternoon at the Presbyterian church, Rev. Reese SCULL officiating. Mr. WALTERS is survived by a brother, living at Vulture camp and a sister, Mrs. CRABB, living in Wickenburg. He was engaged in wrecking a mill Monday and fell from a scaffold a distance of 35 feet. He was rushed to a hospital at Prescott, where he passed away the next day.

HARRY WALTON BURIED WITH MILITARY HONORS
A military funeral under the auspices of the Hassayampa post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars was accorded Harry WALTON, age 48, employee of the Vulture mill, who died at the Wickenburg Hospital Wednesday after a short illness with pneumonia. Mr. WALTON was unmarried and no relatives were known. Funeral services were conducted from the Wickenburg Funeral home, with many members of the post present. At the cemetery a short service was said by Reverend SHOOK, and the committal service of the V. F. W. read by Commander J. E. WATSON and Chaplain Frank BARTEE. A firing squad composed of Comrades ROBERTS, BALDWIN and ALLEN fired a last salute over the grave.

Funeral services for JOHN B. WANDS, Circle city postmaster and restaurant operator, were held Sunday afternoon for JOHN B. WANDS, in the Wickenburg Chapel with the Rev. James Wilson, Presbyterian minister, officiating. Burial was in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Wands, brother of Harry WANDS of Wickenburg, died in Community Hospital Thursday afternoon of last week. Born in Maryland, August 26, 1908, Mr. Wands first came to Arizona in 1946. He had been at Circle City since December 4. Surviving are the widow, Elizabeth; the Wickenburg brother; one son, Robert S. WANDS of Lakewood, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. Betsy SIMON of Lakewood and Mrs. June ANDERSON of Scottsdale.

The life of DONALD H. (BUCK) WAPLES ended Feb. 18, 2008. His life began in Roberts, Mont., on Nov. 13, 1922. He was born to Wayne and Edna WAPLES. He had one older brother Vernon and a younger sister Eva. The family moved from Roberts to a small ranch on Red Lodge Creek when Buck was a little boy. In 1931, Wayne and Edna bought the “Liver Eatin Johnston” ranch, two miles south of Red Lodge, Mont., where Buck learned to work and learned to love the land. He loved working with horses, breaking many throughout his life. Buck received his education in Red Lodge. He was the captain of the high school football team his senior year, 1941. World War II was going full blast when Buck joined the U.S. Marines in 1942. He was a member of “The Greatest Generation” and fought throughout the South Pacific, involved in all the major campaigns. The war finally ended and Buck returned home, but not without scars. In 1947, Buck married Elvina Obert. From this union Rick Waples was born, giving Dad three grandsons - Charley, Chad, and Chet Waples. Charley gave Grandpa a great-grandson Ryan, and a great-granddaughter Katie. Chad gave Grandpa two great-grandsons Carson and Hudson. In 1952, Buck married Pat Singleton. To this union, Cindy (Waples) Hanson was born, giving Grandpa a grandson Tom Farquhar. Buck pulled stakes in 1954 and headed to New York. He hired on at the Hudson Valley Ranch as head wrangler and worked there for three years. In 1955, Dad married Virginia Daniszewski. The couple moved back to the family ranch in Red Lodge shortly after the wedding ceremony. To this union three daughters and one son were born. Daughter Karen gave Dad a granddaughter Annie and grandson Seth. Annie gave Grandpa great-granddaughter Emily Hudson; Seth gave Grandpa two great-granddaughters, Athena and Gracie Novasio. Daughter Donita gave Dad two granddaughters Allyn and Jordyn Workman. Daughter Kimberly (White Feather) gave Dad a grandson Kyle Cummings and granddaughter Rachel Burton. Son Jim gave Dad a granddaughter Amber Waples. Buck was a lifetime member of the Rodeo Cowboy Association. He liked riding bucking horses best, especially bare-backs. He also competed in steer wrestling and calf roping. He also was a member of the Elks Lodge in Wickenburg, Ariz. In his school years some of his top friends were Mark Zupan, Willie Zapital, Andy Jordan, Peanuts Jurkovich, Hugo Golfi, and George Klepich. After the war was over, Red Lodge town had to watch out for the famous foursome: Buck, Ambrose Nose Allison, Stagecoach Mike Tomich, and Cooke City Bill Corbett. Many of Buck’s friends have passed on - friends like John Linderman, George “Lupp” Linderman, Larry “Packsack” Engler, John Papez, Bud Hanson, Doug Linderman, Turk Greenough, Walt Linderman, Ed Blazina, Calvin Cortner, Jim Owens and Jim Cole, just to mention a few. But Dad still has lots of friends that are living, so there will be a celebration of Dad’s life on Saturday, July 26, with family and friends at the Bull and Bear Saloon in Red Lodge, Mont. Dad also made many friends in the Wickenburg and Aguila, Ariz., areas. Those folks that knew him would see Buck and his dog Sally Sue watching the team ropings at the Jack-Rail Ranch, Cactus Country, and Horse World arenas. Always a man with ideas, Dad was a true entrepreneur. In Red Lodge, Buck owned and operated Beartooth Rodeo Arena, Bear Trap Calf, First and Last Gas Station, Buck’s Western Shop, and the Wagon Wheel Bar. However, he made his stake in life in real estate, having bought and sold several ranches throughout southern Colorado with his cousin Harold Blick. He also had land holdings in Aguila, and Hawaii. Well, as Dad would say, that’s all for now, over and out.

CARTER B. WARD, JR. of Wickenburg died Nov. 3 in Phoenix. He was 71. Mr. Ward was born Jan. 20, 1925 in Covington, Virginia. He had lived in Arizona for the past 4 1/2 years, coming from California. Mr. Ward was a turret gunner for the U.S. Marines, serving in World War II. He then left the service to finish his education, graduating from Marshall College in Huntington, W.V. He returned to the military, serving on the U.S. Air Force for eight years, including a year in the Korean Conflict, retiring as a captain and co-pilot in the Strategic Air Command. Following his second stand in the service, Mr. Ward went to work for Aerojet. He retired from Aeroject as a senior, cost analyst after serving more than 25 years with the company. Mr. Ward received numerous commendations, both from the military and his work at Aerojet. He was a member of Los Caballeros Golf Club and the Elks. Mr. Ward's passions were golf and his pets. Survivors include his wife Geri of Wickenburg; daughter Nancy WESTERFIELD of Benicia, Calif., son Carter WARD III of Glendora, Calif.; and grandchildren Brian, Vicki, Gary and Lauren. Private family services will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made in Mr. Ward's name to a charity of one's choice or your local Salvation Army. Frey Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wickenburg handled all the arrangements.

BYRON LEE WARD, of Sun City and longtime resident of Wickenburg, died Jan. 12 in Sun City. He was 84. Mr. Ward was born April 2, 1911 in Ozark, Ala., the youngest of seven children. He graduated from Dale County High School in Ozark in 1932. In 1938 Mr. Ward and his wife Edna moved to Wickenburg and opened a dry cleaning and laundry business, Ward's Cleaners and Laundry, on Frontier Street They operated the business until their retirement to Sun City in 1978. Before moving to Wickenburg, Mr. Ward worked as a shipfitter at the St. John's River Ship Building Company in Jacksonville, Fla., and later at the Bethlehem Steel Ship Yard in New York City. At the outbreak of World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to repair U.S. naval vessels during the war. After being discharged from the service in 1945 as a Petty Officer 1st Class, Mr. Ward returned to Wickenburg to resume the dry cleaning business where he and his wife operated the business for the next 33years. He was a member of the Willowbrook Methodist Church in Sun City, was a 33rd Degree Mason, and a member of the El Zariba Shrine Temple in Phoenix. He is survived by his wife Edna of Sun City, and son Byron Lawrence Ward, of Tempe. Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. at Sunland Lakeside Chapel, 15826 Del Webb Blvd., Sun City with interment in Sunland Memorial Park Sunland Mortuary and Cremation Center was in charge of all arrangements.

Survivors include her nieces, Phyllis C. WILLIS of Wickenburg, Denelda Hungerford of Indian Springs, Nev., and Delores Rubash of Meadview; two grandchildren, Mishelle and Scott McClay; five great-grandchildren; and brother Gene Hittle. Several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and a great-great niece and nephew, also survive. Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by her husbands, K. Norman McClay and Fred W. Ward; and her son, K. Norman McClay. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 20 at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery.

Hal Warner’s Aunt Dies In California
MRS. GLENN WARNER, 92, of Palo Alto, Calif., an aunt of Hal Warner of Wickenburg, died in that city Friday morning of last week. Funeral services and burial were in Springville, N. Y., Monday. Mrs. Warner was the widow of “Pop” Warner, famed football coach who died several years ago. He coached at Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania, the University of Pittsburgh, Temple University and Stanford University and went down in history as one of the great coaches of all time.

UNTIMELY DEATH OF POPULAR PATSY WARNER IS SHOCK TO ALL
SHE WAS ONLY 23 AND ILL A SHORT TIME
The community was saddened and shocked by the untimely death of PATSY WARNER, a popular young resident of Wickenburg, which occurred at 2:30 a. m. last Sunday, March 29, at Community Hospital where she had been admitted at 9 p. m. Saturday. Her death came only nine days after that of her mother, Mrs Carmen Gilbert. Patsy, who was born in Phoenix, May 20, 1930, and came to Wickenburg when still an infant, attended both the Elementary and High Schools here. For the past six years, she had been employed most of the time at the Round-Up Cafe, and was working there when she became ill. Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the Wickenburg Chapel with Dr. Charles S. Poling of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial took place beside her mother in the Garcia Cemetery. Surviving are her father, Tom Warner, formerly of Wickenburg but now residing in Barstow, Calif.; a sister, Elsie and brother Floyd, both of Wickenburg. Also her step-father, James T. Gilbert, and her grandmother, Mrs Aurora Shields, of Wickenburg. She was the niece of Mrs. Allen Hershkowitz and Manuel, Frank and Ray Macias of Wickenburg.

NORMAN WATKINS of Wickenburg died on his 84th birthday, April 20, 2001 in Wickenburg He was born April 20, 1917 in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas, and had lived in Arizona for three years. He came to Wickenburg in 1997 and was a member of VFW Post 285 in Wickenburg. Norman was a World War II veteran and fought in the Pacific Theatre for four years. He had operated heavy equipment for 36 years at the Imperial Irrigation District in Imperial, Calif. Norman was a loving husband for 56 years and a very loving father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife Stella P. Watkins; daughter Tricia SALLEE and her husband Don SALLEE of Wickenburg; son Bill Watkins and his wife Candy Watkins of Placerville, Calif.; sister Mildred of Texas; grandchildren Michael WATKINS of California, Kevin Watkins of California, Travis Watkins of California, Synda Sallee of Arizona, Jason Sallee of Arizona, and Jere Sallee of Oregon; and great-grandchildren Tyler, Kendal, Destiny, Megan, Amanda, Kaitlin, Noah and Nicholas -- all of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Myra WATKINS; brothers Grover and Richard; and sisters Mozelle, Pauline, Frieda and Willadeen. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, April 25) at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery, with Bill Taylor officiating. Funeral services are pending for FRANK WARREN who died in Community Hospital Tuesday morning. Mr. Warren, who had lived 5 miles east of town on Highway 60-70 since 1956, was a retired carpenter. REBA WATSON was born to Frank and Lillian Watson on Jan. 23, 1934 in Florence, Ariz., and passed away on May 2 in Sun City. Reba is survived by brothers earl of Arkansas, Wade (Barbara) of Queen Creek, Ariz., Stan (Bette) of Wickenburg, and by numerous nieces and nephews. JUNE LUCILLE (ESTES) WAYMAN passed away March 25 in Sun City West, Ariz. She was 86. June was born March 21, 1922 to Robert D. and Helen B. ESTES of Oswayo, Penn. She was educated in the Walton, N.Y., school system, a graduate of the Class of 1940. She married BURTON E. WAYMAN on March 23, 1941. She was a homemaker for most of her life. Family members and all who touched her life will recall her extreme devotion and caring for all others, always placing them first in her life, regardless of circumstance. She was an infinite source of inspiration for all. She had not a fonder pride than her husband and children. One of her favorite rituals was a “family surround,” i.e. everyone available coming home for a Sunday afternoon barbecue or dinner. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and your best friend. June was the caring mother of 11 children. She is survived by daughters Myrna Larsen of Mesa; Patricia McCarthy of Hope, Idaho; Gail Ericson of Phoenix; and Sandra Loehndorf of Crystal, Lake, Ill.; sons Gary of Gilbert; James of Wickenburg; Dennis of Spanaway, Wash.; Dale of Littleton, Colo.; Danny of Peeples Valley; and Jerry of Phoenix; stepmother Ethel ESTES of Oxford, N.Y.; brothers Lionel of Walton, N.Y.; and Jerry of Fabius, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert (a World War II bomber pilot), son Ronald (an athlete) in 1963, and husband Burton in 1998. You have left our side Mom, but you are only “gone from our sight.” Like a ship sailing slowly out of sight beyond the distant horizon, you are now gone. “Gone where one may ask? Gone from our sight, that’s all.” At this moment, there are other eyes watching you coming and shouting joyously: “Here she comes!” Memorial services are pending. NORMA D. WAYT, 84, born at home in Bloomfield, Missouri, Nov. 5, 1922 passed away on April 17. A beloved mother, she is survived by daughter Patti Michaels and son Mike Kunes; grandchildren Kelly Kunes and Erin Kunes Young. She was preceded in death by husband BILL WAYT July 8, 2001. Norma was a retired executive secretary from Arizona Public Service. Norma offered a beautiful smile to everyone and had many wonderful friends throughout her lifetime. There was not a person who Norma had met who did not mention her incredible spirit and being a wonderful person. Norma had lived in Congress since 1985. She was very active in community affairs working in the Senior Center in Congress and also a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Yarnell. Graveside services will be held on Thursday (April 26) at 10 a.m. in the Congress Cemetery in Congress, Ariz. The family suggest memorial contributions be made in her memory to Hospice of the Valley. Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home.

WILLIAM E. WAYT of Congress, was born Oct. 14, 1922 in Sac City, Iowa, and died July 8, 2001. He was the eighth child of Mary Otis Lee WAYT and Walter Earl WAYT. He overcame health problems of early childhood and attended the public schools of Sac City, where he participated in athletics and won honors in music and drama. When World War II broke out Bill was given a draft deferment because he was working with his father operating a farm, but he did not want to remain on the farm while others served in the military, so he joined the Army and became an infantry instructor at Camp Hood, Texas. While in the service Bill married ALMA LIETZ of Sac County, and to that union was born his surviving children, William E. Wayt of Rochester, Wash.; Sharon Day of Longmont, Colo.; Alice Miller of Laramie, Wyoming; and Diana Keep of Moscow, Idaho. After the war Bill farmed for a short time, but was forced to leave Iowa because of tuberculosis and other respiratory problems. He enrolled in Highlands University at Las Vegas, N.M., and was graduated with honors and named to "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities" in 1952. He continued his education earning an M.M. in music education, and directed prize-winning bands in Santa Rosa and Espanola, N.M. He also taught music in the public schools of Wyoming and Maryland. Health problems encouraged him to return to the Southwest and he lived in Sun City and Phoenix. After a serious illness in his late seventies, with strength gained from a deep faith in God, he was able to begin life again. Bill served as Director of Music for the Desert Haven Community Church of Tempe. He met and later married Norma Kunes on Sept. 4, 1979, and became active in Crossroads United Methodist Church. In October of 1985 Bill and Norma moved to Congress, hoping to find a healthy climate for the short of breath asthma and allergy sufferer. They soon became active in community affairs. Bill served on the Congress Water Board, in the fire department, and several terms as an officer of the Senior Citizens organization. He also directed the choir of the Community Presbyterian Church of Yarnell, and was chaplain of the Yarnell American Legion Post for 10 years. Bill enjoyed growing and giving away fruit from his orchard, but mostly, Bill enjoyed people. In addition to his four children, his wife, Norma, her daughter, Patti, and son, Mike, Bill leaves to mourn his passing a brother, W. Bert Wayt of Hobbs, N.M., 10 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. All arrangements were by Frey Funeral Home.

MYRON WEBB LAID TO REST ON HOMESTEAD
Funeral services for MYRON WEBB, who passed away Thursday morning at a Phoenix hospital, were held this morning at the home three miles south of town on the Phoenix road, conducted by Rev. Reese SCULL. Interment took place on the homestead. The father, Ernest WEBB, survives. Myron WEBB came here two years ago and had made many friends in Wickenburg.

ROBERT WEBB of Wickenburg, died March 27 in Congress. He was 41. Mr. Webb was born May 1, 1959 in St. Cloud, Minn. He had lived in Arizona for the past three years. SHARON MAE WEBER-TUPA was born Dec. 18, 1941 in Swea City, Iowa. She passed on to her Lord after a courageous battle with cancer on Nov. 21, 2005. She is preceded in death by parents Lawrence and Evelyn TISH, son Michael Terry WEBER, and brother James Eldon TISH. She is survived by her husband William J. Rev. James WILSON, Presbyterian minister, conducted funeral services in the Wickenburg Chapel Tuesday morning for JOSEPH C. WEBSTER Funeral Tuesday, 69, who died in his home on Constellation Road last Sunday morning. Cremation followed with burial in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. WEBSTER was born in Kansas City, Missouri, February 19, 1893, and moved with his family as an infant to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania., where he was raised and resided for many years. He spent 23 years in Toronto, Canada, as district manager for the Gardner & Denver Co., dealers in heavy machinery and equipment. He and his wife, Pearl, moved to Wickenburg in December, 1958. Surviving, in addition to the widow, are a daughter Mrs. Thomas ROBLES of Chimbote, Peru; a brother, William H. WEBSTER of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; and two sister, Mrs. John O’NIEL of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Reid PIERCE of Orlando, Florida.

HARRY SHEARER WELLS, age 80, of Show Low and Wickenburg, passed away on April 25, 2004 surrounded by his family. He was born Sept. 7, 1923 in Evanston, Ill., the son of Viola Shearer and Harry Lumm Wells. Harry married Kathleen (Teen) Lewis in Los Angeles, Calif. on March 25, 1944, whom he met in 1937 when the two families traveled to Europe on the ocean liner H.M.S. Antonia. Before and after World War II, he was a business major at Northwestern University and belonged to the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. Harry served in the Army Tank Destroyer Corps, and then transferred to the Army Air Corps where he was a navigator on B-24s flying out of England. He flew 24 missions, receiving two Air Medals and a Certificate of Valor. After the war, he and his wife settled in Santa Barbara, Calif., where they raised their children. Harry served as Treasurer of the Santa Barbara Dodger Farm Club, and as president of Santa Barbara North Rotary Club. In 1977 he and his wife moved to Arizona where he continued real estate investment and home building until multiple sclerosis forced his retirement in 1978. Harry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kathleen; son Dana (Linda) Wells of Rio Vista, Calif.; daughter, Laurie H. Wells of Phoenix; granddaughters, Shelly Wells (Michael) Frank of Seattle, Wash., Courtney Tindall of Fairfield, Calif.; two great-grandchildren, Tony D. Frank and Brittany Tindall; two brothers, David H. (Peggy) Wells and Richard G. (Virginia) Wells, all of Milwaukee, Wisc. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Sidney Craig. Friends may make donations in Harry's name to a charity of their choice. Man dies in during domestic quarrel Sunday night at squatter’s Flat. A common-law husband and wife quarrel turned deadly Sunday night in the "squatter's flat" area at the end of the pavement of Constellation Road just inside the Yavapai County line. According to reports from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Department, ROBERT WENGERT, 46, was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix late Sunday following the incident. Spokes person Laurie Hadley of the 4 YCSO in Prescott said Wengert was shot once and possibly twice with a small caliber handgun by his wife, Phyllis Emanuel, 54. According to a statement given to deputies at the scene, Emanuel said the couple had been drinking and got into an argument which escalated to the point that her husband came at her with a knife. Emanuel told deputies she shot WENGERT in self-defense. No charges have been filed against Emanuel, Hadley said. An autopsy and further investigation will determine if charges will be brought, she said. Both Emanuel and Wengert were listed by Yavapai County authorities as transients, living in a fifth-wheel trailer in the area northeast of Wickenburg where the shooting occurred. Their last known permanent address was in Congress authorities said.

ROBERT “BUTCH” WENGERT of Congress, died March 31 in Phoenix. He was 46. Mr. Wengert was born Oct.29, 1949 in Sterling, Colo. He had lived in Arizona for the past two years, working as a mechanic. Mr. Wengert worked as a mechanic around the Haxtum, Colo. area for many years, and he worked for a dredging company that moved him to many different locations before he came to Arizona. Survivors include his daughter Connie and husband Kurt Welsh; three grandchildren, Dillon Austin and Colynn; a stepdaughter Kim Fecht and husband Dan; his father, Bud; his wife. Helen; two sisters, Alice Holloway and Patsy Shields; a brother, Harry Pennington; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine; his brother Jim his grandparents; and one nephew. Services were May 16 at the Haxtun Cemetery.

ED WESSLING who was serving as pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wickenburg. When Evelyn’s illnesses required assisted living, the Wesslings moved to Chaparral Winds in Surprise. The mother and father, another brother and three sisters reside in Mississippi. Mrs. WHEAT came to Wickenburg from Gulfport three months ago. Mr. Wheat is employed at the Wickenburg Ice Co. Many beautiful floral offerings attested the esteem in which Mrs. Wheat was held. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Reese E. SCULL. Interment took place in the Wickenburg Cemetery.

CHARLIE DAVID WHITE was born on June 12, 1983 in Wickenburg, and passed away on Sept. 14, 2008 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix. Charlie had lived most of his life in Wickenburg and in Indiana. He loved going four-wheeling in the desert and racing fast cars. He was preceded in death by his sister Amanda (2000) and his dad Floyd White (2005) who work at the Country Club golf course for many years. Charlie is survived by mother Donna Shelley of Shoals, Ind.; grandmother Mallie Diamond of Shoals, Ind.; his longtime girlfriend and daughter Melody and Camille Smith; aunts Ellen Barrett of Shoals, Ind.; Marty Reed of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; Liz Martin of Wickenburg, Ariz.; uncles Hendley Jr. and Clay Diamond of Shoals, Ind.; Tony Diamond of Palestine, Texas; and nieces Jenna and Madelynn Carroll. While Charlie's death was a tragedy, three lives were saved through organ donation. His mom felt very strongly about helping others to live. His nurses Dawn and Bonnie were very compassionate and gave great assistance throughout the whole process. Donna said that her soul was at great peace and her heart overflowing with all the love and prayers of family and loved ones. Funeral arrangements were made through David's Desert Chapel Funeral Home. David was very caring and really helped us through a very rough time. Thank you to everyone who has helped our family through this very tragic time with love and prayers. A memorial service will be held in February.

FLOYD WHITE, "Whitey" passed in his sleep at his home June 10, 2005 with his loving partner Jeannie by his side. He was born August 23, 1939 to Marcus and Minnie White in Eastlynn, W.Va. In 1955 they moved to Wickenburg where he worked as a bartender and house painter, but his life's work was put into the Wickenburg Country Club, where he was employed for 42 years. He has two children Amanda and Charles, and two grandchildren Jenna and Madelynn. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Juanita, brother Roger, and half-sister Doris. Whitey has two surviving brothers Charles and Marcus. Whitey is and always will be greatly missed by his family and many, many friends. A memorial gathering to celebrate his life will be announced.

VICTOR WHITELY, 54, uncle of Robert NAEVE, died suddenly in the lawn of his Sunny Cove home Monday afternoon. The body, accompanied by Mrs.Whitely and Mr. Naeve, has been taken to Long Bench, Calif., for services and burial. Mr. Whitely had purchased the Paul KOEPKE home here last month and he and Mrs. Whitely had moved here last Friday to make Wickenburg their home following his retirement as a laboratory technician with the Shell Oil Co. in Long Beach.

Phoenix Rites For RICHARD WHITFIELD
Funeral services were held in Phoenix at 10 a.m. Thursday for RICHARD F. RICHARD WHITFIELD, 91-year-old Wickenburg resident and father of E. J. WOODSON. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Park Phoenix. Mr. Whitfield, a rancher and farmer in Texas before he came to Arizona in 1912, died in a Phoenix Hospital Sunday. He had been a blade operator for the State Highway Department and for the City of Phoenix for 25 years prior to his retirement in 1940. He resided here with his son and daughter-in-law. Surviving is another son, E. G. WOODSON of Phoenix, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

JAMES WHITTEMORE, 91, died in Community Hospital at 12:33 a. m. Thursday. He has lived in the Carroll Apartments for about 4 years and had recently been residing in the home of Mrs. Gladys BOYER at 173 Apache Street. He was a retired railroad employee. Funeral services for JAMES M. WHITTEMORE, 91, were held last Saturday morning in the Wickenburg Chapel with the Rev. Wayman MITCHELL, pastor of the foursquare Church, officiating. Following cremation the remains were buried in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Whittemore died in Community Hospital Thursday morning of last week. Born January 23, 1871, in North Carolina, Mr. Whittemore was a freight clerk for the “Southern pacific railroad from 1898 until his retirement in 1938. He spent most of that time in Redlands, California. He moved to Wickenburg six years ago. Surviving are a son, Marion WHITTEMORE of Santa Monica, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Eugenia STEWART of Brawley, Calif.; and Mrs. Ida Belle LaGASSE of Los Angeles; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

DAVID MARK WHITNEY, 53, of Flagstaff, died Tuesday, April 27, 2004. He was born in Torrance, Calif., on March 2, 1951, to David and Lynette Whitney. Mr. Whitney graduated from Wickenburg High School and attended Northern Arizona University where he met his wife, Darcie. He graduated from Colorado State University in 1974. He worked with the U.S. Forest Service as a fisheries biologist for 32 years. He loved the outdoors and was passionate about his family. He and his family moved back to Flagstaff in 1990. He is survived by his wife, Darcie, of 30 years; children Chris (Shelley) Whitney and Corrie Jane Whitney, both of Flagstaff; and two granddaughters. A memorial service was held Saturday at Christ's Church of Flagstaff, 3475 E. Soliere Ave., Flagstaff. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Mark Whitney Environmental Science Scholarship Fund at Sinagua High School, 3950 E. Butler Ave. Flagstaff, AZ 86004. EMILY MILDRED WIDING of Wickenburg, died May 23 in Sun City. She was 76. Mrs. WIDING was born Nov. 23, 1919 in Worchcster, Mass. She had recently moved to Arizona from Massachusetts. Mrs. Widing was a member of the Westey United Methodist Church in Worcester, Mass. and the Stella Chapter O.E.S. She worked as a secretary in her husband's numerous developing companies and was a Realtor in her later years. Mrs. WIDING was an avid golfer and belonged many, golfing organizations. She and her husband and won numerous golf tournaments over the years, including an international golf tournament. The Widings spent much time traveling over the years. She also enjoyed sewing. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Eric, of Wickenburg; daughters and sons-in-law Karen and Gerald HYSON of Holden, Mass. and Melanie and Marshall Heath of Wickenburg; four grandchildren: and four great grandchildren. Mrs. WIDING was preceded in death by her brother, James SIMMLER of North Grafton, Mass.; her parents, Carl S. and Emily A. SIMMLER; and grandchild Hans A. J. Hyson. Services will be, at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30 at Frey Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Pastor Ed Wessling will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in Rural Cemetery in Worcester, Mass. ROBERT L. “DOC” WIGGINS of Morristown died Dec. 14 at his residence in Morristown. He was 51. Mr. Wiggins was born May 7, 1945 in Wagon Mound, N.M. He had lived in Arizona for the past 29 years. "Doc" was best known as an all around darned good cowboy! Those who knew him on a personal level respected him for his simple lifestyle and quiet manner. He will be missed by those who knew him and loved him. He was employed by Rincon Ranch. He was preceded in death by his father Donald Wiggins, brother Dale Wiggins and sister Betty Garrett. Survivors include daughters Laurie Webster and Misty Wiggins, both of Safford; mother Anita "Tiny" Wiggins of Wagon Mound, N.M.; sister Linda Bauler of Safford; brothers Charles Wiggins of Aztec, N .M., and Gerald Wiggins of Roswell, N.M.; and granddaughter Sadie Webster of Safford. HARRIET V. WILDER, 83, passed away March 16, 2008 in Peoria, Ariz. Harriet was born and raised in Helena, Mont., later moving to Idaho. She married Hallie LYON and began a family. With daughters Lana and Linda, they moved to Montana. She moved to Spokane, Wash., where she lived for more than 30 years. During that time, she had worked at Gonzaga University. Harriet had remarried Harold WILDER, and he had passed away in 1984. Shortly thereafter, Harriet and her sister came to Wickenburg in 1990. Harriet had been a member of the Mt. Hope Assembly of God Church and also attended the Mt. View Christian Church here in Wickenburg. Due to a lengthy illness, she had lived in Peoria in a care home for the last several years.

Mrs. RHODES Mother Died In California
Mr. Mary RHODES was called to Santa Monica, Calif., Tuesday of this week by the death of her mother, MRS. ALICE WILEMON, which occurred of a heart attack early that morning. Mrs. WILEMON, who was 79 years of age and had been in poor health for the past four years, had visited her daughter here in Wickenburg on several occasions.

Mrs. DOLLY WILEY, 73- year old resident of Salome since 1935, a native Arizonan and well known throughout this section of the state, passed away at 4:47 a.m. Christmas day in Community Hospital here. She had been admitted to the hospital December 21 following a fall in her home which resulted in a broken hip. Mrs. Wiley was born at the Congress Mine 73 years ago. She then lived in Prescott for many years before moving to Salome in 1935. Her husband, George WILEY, died in Salome many years ago. There were no children. A nephew, Floyd RONDEAU of Phoenix, survives. Funeral services are pending.

Funeral services for MRS. MARTHA WILKINSON will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning at the Wickenburg Chapel with Dr. Charles S. POLING officiating. Burial will be in the Wickenburg Cemetery. They moved from Bisbee to Wenden where they lived for 40 years, and came to Wickenburg in 1951. Mr. Wilkinson was a mining engineer. Dr. Charles S. POLING conducted funeral services in the Wickenburg Chapel at 2 p.m. Thursday for WILLIAM (BILL) WILKINSON who died in Community Hospital at 8:35 p.m. Monday after an illness of three weeks. Burial was in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Wilkinson came to Arizona 62 years ago from Wisconsin where he was born June 21, 1873. He first lived in Bisbee, then went to Wenden where he lived for 40 years, and came to Wickenburg five years ago. He was a mining engineer. He and Mrs. Wilkinson were married in Bisbee in 1906 and observed their 50th wedding anniversary here last May 7. The only survivors are the widow; one daughter, Mrs. Harold GOODMAN; and one grandson, Harold GOODMAN, Jr. Mrs. Beulah PATTERSON was soloist at the funeral and pallbearers were George WENTWORTH, Niel HANNE, Carl SHRIDE and Al LANCASTER of Wickenburg, Jack BURR of Phoenix and Elias OROSCO of Wenden.

Luke Air force Base personnel will conduct military funeral rites at 2 p.m. today (Friday) in the Wickenburg Chapel for HILARY L. WILLIAMS. Military burial rites will follow in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Williams died at 2:50 a.m. Monday in the Veterans Hospital in Long Beach, California. Born May 10, 1914, in San Antonio, Texas, Mr. Williams served 20 years in the air force before his retirement in 1957. He saw service in World War II and the Korean War. He moved to Wickenburg in 1960 and resided 6 miles east of the Phoenix Highway. Since coming here he had been a Civil Service employee at Luke Air Force Base. Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Minnie WILLIAMS; one daughter, Mrs. Ray HODGSON of Wickenburg; one son Lt. William L. JESS WILLIAMS Dies In Phoenix
Funeral services for JESS WILLIAMS, 66-year-old Wickenburg resident, were to be held in Phoenix this week with burial there; Mr. Williams died in a hospital there Sunday afternoon. Born November 21, 1888, in, Iowa, Mr. Williams was with the Great Western Railroad for many years, retiring on a physical disability. He moved to Wickenburg 19 months ago and lived on Frontier Street between the Hassayampa Hotel and Brayton's. Charles FRUGIA, Baptist minister of Bagdad, conduct funeral services in Wickenburg Chapel Tuesday morning for CARL PRESTON WILLIS, 7-months-old son of Mr. & Mrs. Gordon WILLIS who reside on the Phoenix Highway just east of town. The baby died Sunday afternoon while enroute to Community Hospital. The little boy was born in Wickenburg November 19, 1958. R. A. WILLIS, 86, a resident of Wickenburg for 36 years died at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday in the home of a daughter, Mrs. N.F. Fraser, in Phoenix where he was visiting. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today (Friday) in the Mortensen-Kinsley Mortuary in Phoenix with Bruce Hunt, president of the LDS Church in Wickenburg officiating. Burial will be in the Mesa Cemetery. Mr. Willis was born in Kenora, Utah, October 3, 1876 and went with his family to Snowflake, Ariz., when he was 2 years old. He had lived in Wickenburg since 1926. Mr. Willis once operated a cotton ranch at Chandler, was active for years in the building trade, worked on Arizona’s highways for many years, starting when horses were used to pull equipment, and for nine years was the state livestock inspector here. Eight children survive. They are R.K (Kink) and Warren of Wickenburg; Marlin and Lester of Phoenix, Larry of Santa Cruz, Calif.; Arthur of Spokane, Wash.; Mrs. Aleta LUNDQUIST of Stockton, Calif., and Mrs. Leora FRASER of Phoenix. Also survive are a brother Heber WILLIS of Mesa, 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

NOBLE ANDERS Killed In Car Wreck Monday
NOBLE ROY ANDERS, 19-year-old son of Mr. & Mrs. Houston ANDERS, and his friend, WILLIAM BRADLEY WILSON, Jr., 38, of Moab, Utah, were killed in a one-car automobile accident on Highway 180 about 27 miles north of Flagstaff Monday afternoon. According to Paul METZKE, half-brother of the Anders youth, the two men had apparently been in Flagstaff and were returning to Grand Canyon where they were employed by a mining firm. Highway Patrolman Roy LAMBERTSON was quoted as saying that he 1961 sedan, believed to have been driven by Wilson, apparently went out of control, left the road, flipped end over end for 264 feet, then flew through the air for another 144 feet, coming to rest in some trees. Both victims, he said, were found 125 feet from the wreck. Young ANDERS was born May 24, 1943, in Wickenburg and attended school here. He had recently been employed by the Western Golden Uranium Mining Co. of Grand Canyon. Surviving are the parents; a sister, Margaret; and two half brother, Harold Paul METZKE and Emery Arthur METZKE, all of Wickenburg. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday) in the Wickenburg chapel with the Rev. Robert JENKINS, past of the first Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Wickenburg Cemetery.

MERCER D. WILSON, Jr., of Phoenix, employed in construction work on Highway 93, died suddenly Tuesday in Congress. He was 53 years of age. JOHN DAVID WILSON, D.C., passed away at his home in Wickenburg after a 30-year battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) on Nov. 4. He was 82. John was born the only son of Edith Mae and David L. Wilson of Pinedale, Wyoming, on July 16, 1926. John had three sisters, the youngest Clara Lou, and two older sisters Madelyn and Frances. After graduating from Pinedale High School in 1943, John entered the Navy in 1944 as a Naval Hospital Corpsman in the Philippines campaign. He was honorably discharged after the war in 1945. In June 1946, he married Gerry PICKENS of Yoder, Wyo. John attended and graduated from the University of Natural Healing Arts in Denver, Colo., with his degree in chiropractic in Sept. 1950. After becoming a licensed doctor of chiropractic in several states, in 1950 John opened his first practice in Guernsey, Wyo. After his daughter Darla was born in 1952, they moved to Arcata, Calif. In 1957, his son Steve was born. John and Linda were married in January 1970. They moved to Hayward, Calif., with Linda’s two sons Tony and Tim Swenson. John continued his practice in Oakland for 10 years before he was diagnosed with COPD in 1979. In 1980, he and Linda moved to Wickenburg to ease his pulmonary suffering. Before his illness became severe, John enjoyed camping, boating, hiking, building, fishing, water and snow skiing. He was well known for his dry sense of humor. John also loved to organize and hold sourdough pancake feeds or chili feeds. He was a member of the American Legion Post 12 in Wickenburg and a member of the Odd Fellows, Kiwanis, Boy Scout leader and numerous chiropractic associations. John was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest sister Frances Takacs, his nephew Cary Schroyer, and his stepson Tony Swenson. He is survived by his wife Linda; his two children Darla (Craig) Hahn of San Leandro, Calif.; Steve Wilson of Ravendale, Calif.; sisters Clara Lou (Fred) Tschiffely and Madelyn Robertson; his nephews, nieces and their spouses Dave and Sue Takacs, Dan and Pam Takacs of Campbell; Debbie and Carl Taylor of Wrightwood; Bernie Bo of Colorado; Fred Tschiffely of Alaska; Fiona Robertson of Santa Rosa; Randy Robertson of Los Angeles; and many grand-nieces, grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Following cremation by the Neptune Society, a memorial service was held at the First Southern Baptist Church of Wickenburg, on Nov. 10. After the memorial, a fellowship potluck was shared. John’s ashes will be scattered in Wyoming at a later date. In lieu of flowers, John has requested that donations be made to the Hospice of Arizona, attn: Connie Frisby, 2222 W. MORLAN "SAM" R. WIMAN, age 82, passed away May 11 in Peoria, Ariz. Funeral services were held on Monday, May 14 at 11 a.m. at the Wickenburg Funeral Home with concluding services and interment in the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Wiman was born and raised on the family ranch in Mill Iron, Mont. He attended schools there and later served in the U.S. Army. Following his military service he returned to Montana and began ranching and later worked for the Department of Interior with the National Parks Service working at the Grand Canyon, Walnut Canyon near Flagstaff, Ariz., and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument in Ajo, Ariz. After his retirement he started a second hand store in Ajo, then in 1993 he moved to Congress. He was a member of the Wittmann Assembly of God Church. Family was the most important thing in life to Sam. He was a great husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Sheila Wiman of Congress; sons and daughters-in-law Ray and Regina Wiman of Yukon, Okla., Rev. Carl and Margarita Wiman of Wittmann; brother Kenneth Wiman of Baker, Mont.; sister Ruth O'Conner of Caldwell, Idaho; and grandchildren Carl S. Wiman, Jr. of Wittmann; Kristina, Katrina, and Kathleen Wiman all of Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by son Larry Wiman in 1963 and brother Sten Wiman in 2005. Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home.

AGUILA RESIDENT TWELFTH HIGHWAY FATALITY IN AREA
When an elderly Aguila man, BEN WINES, 76 years of age, started across the highway in Aguila last Saturday evening, he apparently walked directly in front on an automobile driven by Jess L. RUTHERFORD of Ontario, Canada. Mr. Wines was killed instantly. Although he had lived in the Aguila community for several years, all efforts to locate any living relatives failed. His body was brought to the Wickenburg Mortuary and burial took place in the Wickenburg Cemetery Tuesday. The death of Mr. Wines brought to 12 the number of highway fatalities within the Wickenburg patrol area since January 1.

ELIZABETH S. WING, age 91, passed away May 28 in Gilbert, Ariz. Memorial services will be held on Saturday (June 9) at 2 p.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with Rev. David L. Thom officiating. She was born July 18, 1915 in Louisville, Ky., to Reverend Henry Cook Salmond and Louise Brown Salmond. She was raised in south Pittsburg as well as Chattanooga, Tenn. Following high school, she attended a secretarial school. It was during that time when she met George J. Wing at a USO dance while he was in the Army. They settled in Oconomowoc, Wis., near the Wing side of the family. Elizabeth joined several clubs and organizations while in Oconomowoc. She was a member of the Women’s Hospital Auxiliary, Zion Episcopal Church Altar Guild, Women’s Club, and Stitch and Chatter Club. She worked as a secretary in the attendance office at Oconomowoc High School. Elizabeth and George also worked as independent manufacturing representatives that marketed to premium sales organizations, Their company was known as JEB. After coming to Wickenburg Elizabeth was a member of the St. Alban’s Altar Guild. She enjoyed traveling and visiting family members. She was preceded in death by husband GEORGE “JACK” WING on March 28, 1990. She is survived by her three children George Wing, Jr. of Arizona, Betty Bloom of California, and Bob Wing of Washington; seven grandchildren Jimmy Bloom, Scott Bloom, Ryan Bloom, Janessa Oriol, Melissa Wing, Andrea Wing and George Wing, III; and three great-grandchildren Tommy Bloom, Maddie Bloom and Jake Bloom. Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home.

WADE WINTERS of Wickenburg, died March 16 in Wickenburg. He was 84. Mr. Winters was born Sept., 5, 1912 in Salliasaw, Okla. He had lived in Arizona for the past 56 years, coming from Oklahoma. Survivors include his wife, Verna; son Samual of Wittmann, Don of Benicia, Calif., and Keith Winters of Phoenix; brother Charles Winters of Blythe, Calif.; sister Enuich Ratliff of Blythe; and six grandchildren. Services have been held.

RONALD WINWOOD of Elko, Nev. and a former Wickenburg resident, died Feb. 26 at his home in Elko. He was 90. Mr. Winwood was born Aug. 18, 1906 in Brownsville, Pa. He moved to Wickenburg in 1962 from New Lebanon, Pa. He worked as a gardener at a local guest ranch here until moving to Elko in 1996 to be closer to his family. Survivors include his wife, Alice, of Elko; three sons; five daughters; two brothers; one sister; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Withers Funeral Will be Friday
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. today (Friday) at the Wickenburg Chapel for ELWYN WITHERS of Wickenburg, who passed away early Tuesday morning in Community Hospital. The services will be conducted by Rev. Robert JENKINS of the First Baptist Church and burial will follow in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Withers was born in Canon City, Colo., June 6, 1902. He spent many years as a woodsman in the Oregon forests and for six years before moving to Wickenburg last August he was in charge of the sawmill for the Roseburg Lumber Co., in Roseburg, Oregon. Surviving are the widow, Violet; a daughter Marilyn and son Larry, both at home, and two married daughters, Mrs. Betty Jo CORNELL of Yoncalla, Oregon, and Mrs. Shirley GARRISON of Eureka, Calif. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Frances NORTHEY of Albany, Oregon, and a brother Charles LESTER of Eureka, Calif.

CAROLYN WOJCIK was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 24 and passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the age of 69 after a long battle with cancer. Carolyn was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua's church in Wickenburg. Services and Rosary were held at David's Desert Chapel Funeral Home, followed by a Saturday Mass and luncheon at the Catholic Church. She spent more than half of her life in Wickenburg, moving here in 1972 with her husband and four children. She was preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Helen GLODEK, and her husband John WOJCIK, all of Wickenburg. She is survived by her daughters Stephanie Wojcik of Wickenburg and Christine Parkis and son-in-law Jason PARKIS of Prescott Valley; sons Steven Wojcik of Wickenburg and Phillip Wojcik of Surprise; granddaughter Michelle MARTELLI and her husband Joe MARTELLI of Phoenix; grandsons Kevin and Tyler Wojcik of Wickenburg; and brother Peter GLODEK and sister-in-law Ronnie GLODEK of Phoenix.

ELIZABETH “BETTY” ANNE WOLFE left our earthly world to be with our Heavenly Father on April 6. Betty was born in Fresno, Calif., on Nov. 11, 1945 to Robert and Juanita Blagg. Everyone who entered her life loved her. Betty loved to cook, bake, garden, play bingo, and above all be with her grandchildren. She is survived by her beloved husband DONNIE WOLFE of Salome, Ariz.; daughter Kimberley Gremlin; sons Wade Wolfe, Donnie Lee Wolfe (Sasha), and Charlie Wolfe (Alicia); grandchildren Brenner, Samantha, Charley, and baby Charlie; brothers John Blagg, Richard Blagg, and Jerry Coalgate; sister Becky Barker; and numerous brother- and sister-in-laws; and nieces and nephews. Betty will be truly missed by all.

LUTHER WONDER Rites Wednesday
Funeral services were held at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning at the Wickenburg Chapel for Luther Wonder, 74-year-old resident of Wickenburg for the past three years, who passed away Monday night at Community Hospital. His death was due to double pneumonia. He had been a patient in the hospital only a few hours. Mr. Wonder, father of Leonard WONDER, was born March 31, 1882, in Peru, Nebraska. He had engaged in the plumbing business most of his life, retiring three years ago when he and Mr. WONDER moved to Wickenburg to make their home with their son. Surviving are the widow, Anna; Leonard, the only child; and a nephew, Robert PRICE of Tacoma, Washington. Also two grandsons. Burial took place in the Wickenburg Cemetery.

JO B. WONSETLER Rites Wednesday
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon of this week at the Wickenburg Chapel for JO B. WONSETLER, well known resident of the Salome and Wickenburg areas, who passed away shortly after noon Saturday, April 21, at Community Hospital here. He was 60 years of age and his death was due to the after-affects of a kidney ailment. Mr. WONSETLER, who was a geologist, came to this area in 1944 from Fort Monmouth, N.J., where he had been with the plastics division of the Signal Corps. Previous to that, he had served as headmaster of the Pacific Military Academy in Culver City, Calif., and of the Moran Schools at Atascadero, Calif., and Bainbridge Island, Washington. He had also served as athletic director of the New Mexico Military Institute at Roswell, N.M. Mr. Wonsetler is survived by his wife and a daughter, Jacqueline, both of Salem, Oregon.

HARRY TRIGG WOOD was born on May 22, 1913 in Woodson, Texas, a town named after his great grandfather, who founded the town in the 1800s on land that the family owned. O.J. Wood gave away land to banks, churches and schools, and founded Woodson State Bank. The town today is a quiet and sleepy village. Harry’s parents, Cuvier LIPSCOMB (Cue) WOOD and Mabel CALAHAN WOOD, owned meat packing plants and an electric power plant in Texas, a cotton gin in Woodson, Texas, and an ice plant in Florida through the prosperous 1910s and 1920s. The family’s fortunes were greatly changed during the Great Depression. The family consolidated its holdings into a 600-acre farm in Artesia, N.M., shortly after the stock market crash in 1929. Harry, then 16, worked on the farm with his father. The first year was a bumper crop and economically rewarding. The Wood family doubled its plantings the following year, but the Depression made that crop worthless, and the family fortune was depleted. Harry, Cue, and Harry’s brother J.O. went to work in the oil fields. Harry served in the U.S. Army during World War II in General Patton’s 3rd Army and was in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he worked as a driller for oil and water in most of the Western states. Harry was a kind and gentle soul, and will be greatly missed. Harry Trigg Wood died in Wickenburg on Feb. 29, 2008. He is survived by his nephew Clarence Leon Wood of Watsonville California; his niece Betty Watson of San Antonio, Texas; his nephew George Ernest Wilson, Jr.; and niece Sharon Sue Wilson; his great-nieces and nephews Lori Wood and Susan Wood of Watsonville, Calif., Mark Bradford Schreiber and Jeffrey Frank Schreiber, Michael Keith Wilson, Nicky Allen Wilson, Anthony Glenn Wilson and Holly Brentz Winstead; and his great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews Mallory Smith and Quinn Smith, Erin Elizabeth Whitehead and Bradford Hughes Schreiber, Jeffrey Ian Schreiber and Heather Melody Bird, Lisa Beth Schreiber, Broudon Wilson and Benjamin Wilson, Bryan Allen Dodson, and Marc Schriber; and his great-great-great-nieces and nephews Kelsea Elizabeth Bird and Cole Hudson Bird. Funeral arrangements were handled by David’s Desert Chapel. She was preceded in death by her sister Jean Yeaw. She is survived by daughters Lana Wight of Youngtown and Linda Hammons of Scottsdale; sister and brother-in-law Ann and Gene Dimico of Washington; brother Frank J. Cunningham of Old Town, Idaho; Grandchildren Sandra Foster of Scottsdale, Cheryl Ault and Leah Harb of the Portland, Ore., area, and Melissa Sventek of Pensacola, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home and Crematory.

Phoenix Rites For A Stepbrother Of Mrs. JACK DRISKILL
Funeral services were held in Phoenix Wednesday morning for JOSEPH K. WOODBRIDGE, 52, stepbrother of Mrs. Jack Driskill of Wickenburg. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Park in Phoenix. Mr. Woodbridge died in his home in Gallup, N. M., last Saturday. Born in Prescott, Mr. Woodbridge had been an employee of the Bureau of Indian Affairs since 1932. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Other survivors include his widow, Lee, of Gallup; his parents, one brother, one sister and one other stepsister.

HERMAN “WOODY” WOODFIN, age 96, passed away March 9 at his home in Wickenburg. He was born July 7, 1911 to Edwin and Carrie Woodfin at their home on a farm near Rockford, Ala., where he was raised and graduated from high school in 1930. He enlisted in the Army air force in 1942 and was stationed at Lukefield, Ariz. After his discharge in 1945, he began a 15-year career with Standard Oil. In 1961, Woody purchased his first service station in Aguila, Ariz. In 1971 he, along with his stepson Jack Lowe and friend Franklin “Buddy” Vaughn, formed Woody’s Enterprises, Ltd. doing business as Woody’s Food Stores. Woody retired in 1973 to pursue his love of fishing, hunting and gardening. Woody is survived by his step-children Jack Lowe of Wickenburg, Pat Wemesfelder of Wickenburg, and Carolyn Brazell of Porterville, Calif. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Dixie and his second wife Flora, sister Jessie Woodfin, and two grandchildren. Arrangements are under the direction of David’s Desert Chapel Funeral Home. Viewing is Thursday (March 13) at 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at David’s Desert Chapel Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery.

JOHN JUNIOR WOODHEAD of Wickenburg, Ariz., formerly of Hagerman, Idaho, passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2004. He was born in Hagerman, Idaho, on May 27, 1926, to Jack and Ricca Woodhead. He attended school in Hagerman, graduating in 1944. After graduation John joined the Navy. After his discharge, he attended Boise Junior College. John became an electrical engineer and was project manager for various companies. He married Laura Jean Andrews of Gooding, Idaho, on June 19, 1949 and they moved all over the United States, retiring in Wickenburg 24 years ago. John is survived by his wife, Laura Jean; daughter, Vicki (Bob) Mohler; son John (Lisa) Woodhead; sister, Wynarda (Bill) Exon; Grandchildren, Cindy (daughter Hannah) and Tana (son Tanner) Carter, Erin Maloney, Melissa Mohler, Laura (daughter Kelsey), Debbie (daughter Trinity), John and April Woodhead. His parents, three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donation be made to the Hagerman Alumni Associaton, P.O. Box 495, Hagerman, Idaho 83332.

HARRY RAY WOODWARD, 86, of Wickenburg, passed away Friday, June 15 in Peoria, Ariz. Harry was born February 18, 1921 in Iuka, Ill., son of David and Mae (Donaho) Woodward. Harry married LEOTA BEARD on Sept. 21, 1942. He is survived by Leota who will continue to reside in Wickenburg, Ariz. Harry entered into active military service Oct. 20, 1942, and was discharged January 9, 1946. While in the service, Harry served 15 months, 11 days overseas in the European Theater. During his military service, Harry received three Bronze Stars. He was a steadfast member of the American Legion Post 128 in Salem, Ill., and a member of the 12th Armored Division Association. Harry worked for the Illinois Highway Department as a foreman. His true love was farming, from which he retired in 1979. Harry is also survived by son Ray Woodward of College Station, Texas; daughter Elsie Vance of Wickenburg, Ariz.; sister Louise Adams of Denver, Colo.; half-brother Ronald Woodward of Iuka, Ill.; half-sister Clara Meyer of Iuka, Ill.; stepsisters Mildred Donaho and Martha Davis both of Michigan and Mary Smith of Iuka, Ill.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Harry was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Visitation was Tuesday (June 19) from 6 to 8 p.m. with funeral services following Wednesday (June 20) at 10:30 a.m. at Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home, Salem, Ill., with Ray Barnes officiating. Burial will be at the Iuka Cemetery. Local arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home.

WALTER WOOLEY of Yarnell, died Nov. 23 in Prescott. He was 89. Mr. Wooley was born Jan. 25, 1907 in Jones County, Texas. He had lived in Arizona for the past 66 years. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Wooley of Admore, Okla.; two daughters Margie Baldwin of Arlington, Texas and Judy Thomas of Phoenix; sister Alice, of Tahoka, Texas; brother J.C. Wooley of Brownfield, Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Services will be at noon today (Wednesday, Nov. 27) at the Wickenburg Cemetery.

He also was a farmer, raising hay crops. Survivors include sons Kenneth WOOLEY of Yarnell and Hersel Wooley of Ardmore, Okla.; daughters Margie BALDWIN of Arlington, Texas and Judy THOMAS of Phoenix; sister Alice of Tahoka, Texas; brother J.C. WOOLEY of Brownfield, Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at noon today (Wednesday, Nov. 27) at the Wickenburg Cemetery. Visitation was conducted between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday; Nov. 26 at the Wickenburg Funeral Horne. Brown's Wickenburg Funeral Home handled all the arrangements.

Mrs. Worthen, 76, Summoned Here
MRS. ELIZABETH WORTHEN, 76-year-old resident of Wickenburg, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 14, following a heart attack. She was being taken to Community Hospital at the time of her death. The body was taken to Grand Blanc, Mich., for funeral services and burial will be at South Bend, Ind. Mrs. Worthen was born in Michigan and later moved to Indiana where she married Charles Ellis WORTHEN in 1917 at Fort Wayne. Mr. Worthen preceded her in death in October, 1933. In January, 1954, she moved to Wickenburg to live with her grandson, Robert Worthen. Here she made many friends and particularly enjoyed the town and climate. The Survivors She is survived by four daughters and two sons: Eunice WORTHEN, Grand Blanc; Mrs. Grace LEDDLY, South Bend; Mrs. Edith HUMBLE and Mrs. Melissa NEWMAN, both of Flint, Mich.; Charles E. WORTHEN, also of Flint, and O. W. MOORE of Dearborn, Mich. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive.

Rites In Phoenix For HENRY WRIGHT
Funeral services for HENRY F. (JACK) WRIGHT, 47, Salome resident who died in Community Hospital Thursday of last week as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident August 30, were held in Phoenix last Friday. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Park. The accident happened at the junction of Highway 60-70 with 71 near Aguila. Surviving are the widow, Dorothy Pauline; one daughter, Mrs. George JOHNSON of Phoenix; and one son, Jack C. WRIGHT of Phoenix. Two brothers and four sisters, all of Texas, also survive.

MARGARET A. BENCINA-WRIGHT, of Tempe, died April 11 in Mesa. She was 37. MRS. BENCINA-WRIGHT was born Aug. 20, 1957 in Savannah, Ga. She had lived in Arizona for 22 years, coming here from Washington. She was a self-taught painter who especially enjoyed painting the Arizona landscapes. She also enjoyed arts and crafts. Mrs. Bencina-Wright attended Mesa and Phoenix Community Colleges. She then went on to work at the Museum of Science and Technology in Phoenix. She is survived by her husband, Kevin WRIGHT of Tempe; mother and step-father Juana C, and Gary SHUDY of Wickenburg; father George R. CHAPPLE; daughters Jennifer and Alicia BENCINA of Alabama; son Tony BENCINA of Alabama; sisters Sharon ZIMMERMAN of Texas, Marie CHAPPLE, Mildred LUTCH, and Emily RICE, all of Arizona; and brother George R. CHAPPLE III of Minnesota. Private family services and interment will be held Sunday, Jan. 7 at 11:30 a.m. at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Bencina-Wright's name to American Cancer Society, Arizona Division Inc., Wickenburg Unit, P.O. Box 1975, Wickenburg, Ariz. 85358. Frey Funeral Home and Cremation Service handled all arrangements.
