OLE HAAVE
Dr. Charles S. Poling conducted funeral services in Wickenburg Chapel Monday morning for OLE HAAVE, 61, of Morristown who died in Community Hospital December 16. Burial was in Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Haave was born in Nebraska June 27. 1893. He came to Arizona in 1930 and resided in Wickenburg and Morristown in the 30 years he was here. He had been in ill health for many years. Surviving are two sons, Ronald of Tacoma, Washington, who with his wife was here for the services, and Richard, Paw Paw, Michigan. Also a daughter, Mrs. Florene WAKEFIELD, Williams, Ariz.; two brothers, Clarence, Morristown, and Henry of Petersburgh, Nebraska; two sisters, Mrs. Ed PAULSON and Mrs. Oscar SKILSTAD, both of Newman Grove, Nebraska. There are 10 surviving grandchildren.

C. RAYMOND HAGGARD Raymond was born in Bandana, Kentucky on Oct. 12, 1908. He passed away on March 31, 2005 in Colorado Springs, Colo. His parents, Ruby Dick HENDRICKS and Cling Reynolds HAGGARD, were tobacco farm sharecroppers during Raymond's younger life. Raymond had two sisters and two brothers, one brother dying in infancy. While in Kentucky, he met and later married Willie Lee HENDRICKS on March 22, 1930 They later moved to Jackson, Mich. where Raymond began working as a machinist at the Kelsey-Hayes Company making automotive parts. They had one child, Cecil Ray, born in 1931. Raymond retired from Kelsey-Hayes in the late 1960s. In the early 1970s, due to Willie Lee's health, doctors in Michigan advised Raymond to move to Arizona. It was there they both began attending Calvary Baptist Church, where they were baptized and became members. After Willie's death, Raymond married Opal Nadine OLIVER in May of 1989. Opal died Jan. 16, 1990. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, his son Cecil and daughter-in-law Charlene, all of his siblings and both wives. He is survived by his grandchildren, Colby of Tucson, Ariz., Lorna BOYNTON (James) of Pelkie, Michigan, and Colleen HIX (John) of Houghton, Mich.; great-grandchildren Cynthia, Melissa and Clinton HAGGARD, Robert and James BOYNTON, and Ruth and Rae HIX; as well as nieces and many friends. Raymond will be remembered by all who knew and loved him as a gentle, gracious and Godly man with a ready smile and a good sense of humor. A memorial service honoring Raymond will be held at 11 a.m., May 2 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Wickenburg. Burial will be in Wickenburg.

ROBERT O. "BOB" HAHN, 78, of Wickenburg, passed away peacefully at his residence on March 31, 2004. He was born March 8, 1926 in Minneapolis, Minn. Bob was previously a longtime resident of the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. A man of many skills and talents, he was an accomplished artist, metal fabricator, builder and machinist. His enthusiasm and innovations were a source of inspiration to all his family, friends and associates, and his eternal youth and great sense of fun will be missed by all. Bob was a World War II Army veteran. He served in the Asian Theatre and was awarded a Purple Heart. Also, he was a member of the American Legion of Wickenburg, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Donna, Texas. He is survived by his five children, Craig Katshen of Donna, Texas; David Hahn of Seattle, Wash.; Ronald Hahn of Lincoln, Neb.; Linda LeBourveau of Las Vegas, Nev.; and MaryEllen Konz of Wickenburg; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. As requested by Bob, no services will be held.

PRICILLA HALE
On Sunday, Nov. 20 PRICILLA HALE, a long-time resident of Wickenburg, passed away. Born in Ithaca, N.Y., on Sept. 26, 1941, she is survived by her husband of 46 years, Cecil Wayne HALE; sisters Yolande HARRISON, Deanna LEZINE, and Elizabeth WALKER; brothers Armand MEZEY and Justin MEZEY; aunt Doris PATAKI and five cousins, as well as many nephews and nieces. She was very creative and enjoyed decorating, as anyone entering their home could quickly notice. Her abilities were demonstrated in the creation of "Desert Treasures," which she marketed throughout Arizona and California for several years. She loved entertaining and took great joy in sharing with others. She always enjoyed travel and most recently, together with her husband, worked to organize and participate in many cruise tours through Adventure Bound Travel of Phoenix. As an active member of Jehovah's Witnesses, the love she had for God's Word and the effort she made to share her hopes for the fulfillment of His promises was evident to everyone she met. Along with her husband, she took special delight in sharing her knowledge of the Bible - while on cruises, with the ship's staff members from all parts of the world, through printed form in over 30 different languages - with great success. She was dearly loved by family and many friends, and will be greatly missed. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 590 South Kellis Road in Wickenburg.

Rites Last Week For PHILIP HALL
Funeral services were held in Wickenburg Chapel last Saturday morning for PHILIP HALL who died in a rest home in Glendale July 9. Rev. Carl Adam officiated with burial following in Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Hall, 54, came here from Codette Sask., Canada, in October 1955 resided at the Echo Hill Rest Home until he was moved to Glendale last month. His mother, Mrs. E. E. WILSON came here from Codette for the funeral.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT WILL BE MISSED

ADRIAN JOB (A.J.) HALLIFAX was born April 28, 1988 at Phoenix General Hospital, in Deer Valley, Ariz. He died Nov. 5, 2005 in a car accident on Patton Road a few miles from home. AJ.'s passions in life were his family, his friends, and his music. Raised by his mother and father, Penny and Ray SHANNON, along with sisters Star and Elizabeth SHANNON, AJ valued his family greatly. He was a kind and loving son and brother and was concerned about family and friends, even in his dying breath. A.J. was raised out in a very desolate rural setting. From this he grew to love the outdoors. One of his favorite pastimes was to go dirt bike riding with friends, and he spent many hours with close friends riding trails and jumps; He was even known to carry along his faithful guitar at times, so when they were done riding he could sit and play wherever he was. His love for music was so great that when he was first learning to play the guitar years ago, he actually slept with it. He was a talented musician and felt his music deeply. A.J.'s elementary years were split between Paradise Valley Unified School District and Nadaburg School District. His first two high school years were spent at Wickenburg High School. At the beginning of his junior year, he transferred to Wickenburg Academy for Achievement and attended there his junior and senior years. He was a good student, and was set to graduate this May with his class. The students at the Academy have an ongoing Service Learning Project in their school yard habitat, and when Phase II is done the students have chosen to dedicate that section of the National Wildlife Habitat to A.J. Hallifax. He was well liked by faculty and students - always a kind word for all. Few people will take the time to help someone or speak an encouraging or kind word to whomever they meet. These were the characteristics that caused A.J to be so loved by friends, family, teachers, staff and the community. A.J. recently was employed by ALCO Discount Store here in Wickenburg. As a senior, he began driving to school each day so he could also work in the evening. He attended school from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day - but many times stayed and finished more assignments until his work shift began. It was after a work shift that AJ was killed on the long drive home. Students at both Wickenburg High School and. Wickenburg Academy for Achievement have collected money to help AJ.'s family with expenses related to his death. His family knew that AJ would want to help others, even in his death, and signed for the donation of seven organs which could bring life to someone else. LAST RITES FOR MRS. HAMILTON
AGED RESIDENT OF MORRISTOWN PASSES AWAY HERE AFTER EXTENDED ILLNESS
Beautiful services at the Community Presbyterian church marked the last rites for Mrs. PINK MAE HAMILTON, of Morristown, who passed away at the Wickenburg hospital Sunday after a long illness. Mrs. HAMILTON had observed her seventy-second birthday the Thursday before she died. The services were conducted by Rev. Reese SCULL. A quartet composed of Mrs. C. O. SHRIDE, Mrs. C. C. BILLINGSLEY, Lester MISSALL and George WENTWORTH sang "Face to Face" and "It Is Well With My Soul." Interment took place in Wickenburg cemetery. Mrs. Hamilton was born in Goodland, Oklahoma, when it was the Indian Territory, April 16, 1863. She came to Morristown in 1921. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack HAMILTON, four grandchildren, Jerry, Jean, Jacie and Rupert, all of Morristown and a sister, Mrs. S. T. BURCH of Covington, Okla. Mrs. Ruth THOMPSON of Barstow, California, a sister of Mrs. Jack HAMILTON attended the service. The pall bearers were Floyd WACHTER, W. L. RICHARDS, J. R. BARNETTE, B. C. STRAUGHAN, J. A. ROHRER and Ernest ROBERTS. The services were largely attended, attesting the esteem in which Mrs. HAMILTON was held and there were many beautiful floral offerings.

Services are Held for Mrs. Hamilton
Residents of the Wickenburg, Wittmann, and Yarnell areas were saddened Thursday of last week by the death of Mrs. LUCY HAMILTON, 78, known to most of her friends as “Mom.” She died soon after noon that day in Community Hospital after suffering a stroke. Mrs. Hamilton was best known in Wickenburg as the hostess for many years of the coffee Club which meets in Hamilton’s Café, on Frontier Street. She and her husband, Tom HAMILTON, operated the cafe for six and one-half years prior to moving to Yarnell in 1960. Born in France, February 8, 1894, Mrs. Hamilton came to the United States in 1910 and resided in New York City until 1946 when she and Mr. Hamilton moved to Wittmann. They came to Wickenburg in 1951. Surviving are the husband, one son, Roger Simond, Sr. of Sunnyslope; one daughter, Mrs. Marcella BLZAC of San Francisco; and two grandsons, Roger SIMOND, Jr., who is with the Air Force in Odessa, Texas, and Albert PERRY of San Francisco. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday. November 30 in the Wickenburg chapel with the Rev. James WILSON, Presbyterian minister, officiating, Burial was in the Wickenburg Cemetery.

Funeral Saturday For D. W. HAMMON
Funeral services for DAVIS WELBORN HAMMON, 73-year-old Wickenburg resident; are tentatively set for 4 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday) at the Wickenburg Chapel with burial following in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Hammon, affectionately known as "D. W.," died in Community Hospital Wednesday afternoon. Born in DeLeon, Texas, September 12, 1882, he came to Arizona in 1916, settling first in Octave where he was a miner. He came to Wickenburg in 1923, worked for the highway department, was school custodian for 12 years, hauled mail for nine years and was post office custodian for 171/2 years, a position from which he retired this summer. He was married in 1901 to Minnie E. DOWDY. They observed their 54th wedding anniversary Sunday. Surviving are the widow and these children: Floyd, Blythe; L. D., Phoenix; Mrs. Mildred TAYLOR, Hanford, Calif.; Mrs. Anna FAUCEY, Durham, N. H.; Mrs. Ruth HANNA, Morenci; John H., Mansfield, 0hio; Davis, Jr., Oroville, Calif.; and Mrs. Rosa HARRISON, Fresno, Calif. Two children are deceased. There are 17 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Church Of Christ Conducts Funeral For D. W. Hammon
Funeral services for D. W. HAMMON were conducted at Wickenburg Chapel at 4 o'clock last Saturday afternoon with Rev R. V. DAVIS, pastor of the Glendale Church of Christ, officiating. Music was furnished by Mr. & Mrs. Milton SANDERS, Paul SHARP and Mr. & Mrs. Robert MANN, all of Glendale. Pallbearers were George WENTWORTH, Miles PRESTON and Delbert KIRBY of Wickenburg and Robert MANN, Jack BOMAR and Paul SHARP of Glendale. Burial was in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Hammon died in Community Hospital October 19.

G.B. HUTHMACHER of the Church of Christ conducted funeral services for Mrs. MINNIE HAMMON in the Wickenburg Chapel at 1 o’clock last Sunday afternoon. Burial followed in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mrs. HAMMON, 78, died in arrest home in Reedley, Calif., Thursday afternoon of last week. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, in June of 1884, Mrs. Hammon later lived in Brownsville, Texas, and moved here from that city 36 years ago. Her husband W.D. HAMMON, died here 5 years ago. She had lived in California for the past year and one-half. Survivors, include three sons, John William (Bill) of Mansfield, Ohio, Floyd of Blythe, Calif., and Davis W., Jr., of Oroville, Calif.; four daughter, Mrs. Mildred TAYLOR of Reedley, California, Mrs. Ruth HANNA of Ilo, Peru, Mrs. Ann FAUCY of Durham, N.H. and Mrs. Rose HARRISON of Fresno, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

JOHN A. HANCOCK of Wickenburg died Dec. 18 in Glendale. He was 86. Mr. HANCOCK was born Aug.31, 1910 in Taylor. He was a lifelong resident of Arizona. Mr. Hancock was a rancher all his life and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruby of Wickenburg; children Irene JENSEN of Salt Lake City, Utah, LaVerne CHANDLER of Bakersfield, Calif., Beverly Homer of Boardman, Ore., Dale HANCOCK of Roy, Utah, Labretta Wilkes of Mission Viejo, Calif., Alvin HANCOCK of Wickenburg, Ruby MASON of Salt Lake City, Cory HANCOCK of West Haven, Utah, Pamela Briggs of Salt Lake City, Forrest Hancock of Magna, Utah, Marty HANCOCK of Wickenburg, Greg HANCOCK of Flagstaff, Denzlo HANCOCK of St David and Levi HANCOCK of Peoria; three sisters; 82 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wickenburg. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with burial following at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. PATRICIA JEANETTE HANCOCK, 83 passed away on June 24 in Surprise, Ariz. Patricia was delivered by her grandfather (who was a doctor) on April 2, 1924 in Blooming Grove, Texas. She attended and graduated from high school in Lancaster, Texas. She moved to Arizona settling in Phoenix in 1943 where during World War II she worked at Giverson Defense making shells for the war. In 1948 she married JEROME KINCHELO HANCOCK in Phoenix. She became a homemaker, and devoted her time to raising her family. In 1974 after the death of her mother, the family moved to Wickenburg, then in 1996 to Skull Valley. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Wickenburg. Services will be held at 3 p.m. today (Wednesday, June 27) at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 970 N. Tegner Street, with Pastor George Garrick officiating. She is survived by son Kerry N. (JoeAnn) Hancock, Sr. of Wickenburg, grandson Neal Hancock, granddaughter Kerstin Baxter, great-grandchildren Rianne, Ronnie, Jordan, Katie, Kenner and Sara all of Chandler, brother William Randolph Patterson of Phoenix. Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home.

WILLIAM “KEN” HANCOCK of Wickenburg, died Oct. 9 in Wickenburg. He was 71. Mr. Hancock was born April 20, 1925 in Colville, Wash. He had lived in Arizona for the past 12 years. Survivors include his wife May of Wickenburg; sons Randy HANCOCK of Cambridge, Mass. and Kenneth D. Hancock of Kalispell, Mont.; daughters Amanda HANCOCK of Beverly Hills, Calif. and Karyn Dawn DIETZ of Spokane, Wash.; four grandchildren, Bryce and Aubrey HANCOCK and David and Jessica DIETZ; and one great-grandchild Jordan Dietz. Private services have been held.

DEATH COME TO BERT HAND
County Worker Died Tuesday at the Hospital
Death, from undetermined causes, came at 5:30 a.m., Tuesday of this week, to BERT HAND, native of Arizona and well known resident of the Wickenburg area for the past 15 years. Mr. Hand passed away at community Hospital here where he had been a patient since June 18. His condition had shown steady improvement and on Monday it was thought he might be able to leave the hospital in a day or so. However, he took a turn for the worse Monday afternoon and failed to rally. For the past three years Mr. Hand had been employed by Maricopa County on the on the county truck. Prior to that time he was with the Arizona Highway department for a number of years. He was born at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., May 22, 1885, and lived all his life in this state. He is survived by three brothers, Charles, of Wickenburg; George of Bakerfield, Calif., and Edward of Phoenix. A daughter, Mrs. Lavina NORTHUN of Los Angeles, arrived in Wickenburg Tuesday to help plan funeral arrangements. Another daughter, whose name was not immediately available, resides in Washington, D.C. Also surviving are two sisters, Miss Minnie OLDHAM and Miss Myrtle McLANE of Phoenix. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Wickenburg Chapel.

Prescott Rites For ORA A. HANN
Funeral services were held in Prescott last week for ORA ALBERT HANN, 75, who died in the Pioneers Home there July 9. Burial was in the Pioneers Cemetery at Prescott. Mr. Hann, who was in the cattle business in the Wickenburg area for many years, had lived in Prescott for the past 20 years. Survivors unclude the widow, Mattie, of Los Angeles; three sons, all of California, and two sisters residing in Phoenix.

Father Of Mrs. PAIGE Summoned In Florida
The many friends of Mrs. C. W. PAIGE will wish to extend sympathies to her in the death of her father, GROVENOR SPRAGUE HANE, which occurred recently at his home in Miami, Florida. Death was due to heart complications. Mr. HANE was 80 years of age and has been a resident of Miami for the past 35 years. Funeral services took place last Wednesday, June 27, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in Miami.

BILLY DONOVAN HANGER was the fifth of six children born to the late Cecil Burr Hanger and Mildred Nellie Hubbard Hanger. He was born on May 10, 1926 in Pocasset, Okla., and died April 26, 2009 in Tishomingo, Okla. Bill attended Glendale High School in Glendale, Ariz. He left his sophomore year to join the Navy and enter into his country’s service in World War II. Bill proudly served in the Navy’s Armed Guard. Upon his discharge, Bill finished his schooling then started his career in law enforcement that lasted a lifetime. He retired as a lieutenant after 23 years in the Arizona Highway Patrol, 18 years as an elected judicial official in Arizona Justice Court and seven years as City Magistrate in Wickenburg, Ariz., before making Tishomingo his home. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jerry; daughter and son-in-law Nellie and Craig Garone of Milburn, Okla.; son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Carolyn Hanger of Center Moriches, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Tyler and Chris Garone and Brooke and J.T. Hanger; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sandi and Jim Hartman of Wickenburg, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews. There will be no service, which was Bill’s request. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund at Murray State College to benefit the Criminal Justice Department. Donations in Bill’s honor should be made out to Murray State College Foundation, c/o Murray State College, One Murray Campus, Tishomingo, OK 73460. Funeral Tuesday For Brick MUSE's Mother
Funeral services for Mrs. MARY MUSE HANN, 87-year-old mother of Brick MUSE, were held in Camp Verde Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Hann died in a Phoenix rest home Sunday. Born in Missouri, Mrs. HANN came to Arizona in a covered wagon in 1875 and, until four years ago when she moved to Phoenix, resided the Verde Valley.

THOMAS HANNIGAN, 68, went to eternal rest on May 10, 2005 at his home in Wittmann. Memorial services were held Friday (May 13) at the Wickenburg Funeral Home. Tom was born April 2, 1937 in England. He came to the United States in his teen years and became a U. S. citizen He married Eloise McClain on Aug. 16, 1959. They were blessed with eight children. He is survived by his wife Eloise; sister patty 9George) Jones; his children Matthew, Thomas, Sandy – all of Arizona – and Pat, Cindy, Sheila, Joanne (Steve) Neahusan and Lyne (David) Florida of Michigan; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

MILDRED JOANNA "MILLIE" HANSELL was born in Denver, Colo., Nov. 24, 1915 to Julius and Treva Kurtz. She died peacefully May 31, 2005 at the age of 89 in Walnut Creek, Calif. Millie grew up in Toole, Utah, and attended the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. She moved to Oakland, Calif. in 1936 to attend the California College of the Arts from which she received a degree in Fine Arts in 1938. She married John "Jack" Hansell on Dec. 7, 1937. Millie and Jack raised two children in Oakland, John "Jay" Hansell who resides in Auburn, Calif., and Elizabeth "Joey" Hansell of Oakland. Millie and Jack moved to Wickenburg in 1969 where he managed a plant for Benner-Nawman. Jack died of ALS March 20, 1989. Millie's son Jay, survives her as does her daughter Joey, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Millie outlived her three sisters, Julia, Elinor and Frances, and her brother Robert "Bob" Kurtz lives in Denver. Millie designed her home in Oakland and loved gardening and the arts, especially photography. We miss her - our mother - our grandmother - our friend. We miss the twinkle in her eye, her sense of humor, and her unique view of her world. She touched our lives; we touched hers. She remains in our hearts always. A memorial service will be held at her daughter Joey's home in Oakland, Calif. on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005. JEROME "JERRY" HANSEN of Wickenburg died Nov. 17 in Wickenburg. He was 74. Mr. Hansen was born June 19, 1922 in Oak Park, Illinois. He had lived in Arizona for the past nine years. Mr. Hansen was the owner and operator of Gales Manufacturing Company in Racine, Wisc. He also was president of the Wickenburg Horseman's Association and was a member of the Wickenburg Elks Lodge 2160 in Wickenburg. Mr. Hansen belonged to the Experimental Aircraft Association in Wickenburg, the Wickenburg Sportsman's Club, and he was a lifetime member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Survivors include his son Earl S. Hansen of Racine,Wisc.; daughter Jessie HUMPHREYS of Oconto Falls, Wisconsin; granddaughter Claire and Julian HANSEN; and grandsons Jerry, Jason, Jackson and Jonathan HUMPHREYS . Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Wickenburg Elks Lodge, with Elks Lodge members officiating. Internment was conducted at the Mound Cemetery in Racine, Wisc. Brown's Wickenburg Funeral Home handled all the arrangements.

MADELYN “MADDY” MARY HANSON (PIOTRASCHKE), age 84, passed away on April 18. She was born Nov. 1, 1924. The final page of a beautiful book was read on the morning of April 18. Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep and left this world for paradise. This mother and friend was truly a blessed woman who loved God, family and friends. With a positive and loving attitude, Maddy had persevered many obstacles throughout her life story. She was a woman of strength and full of faith. She was admired for her common sense, fairness, and ability to love everyone. A humble woman full of love, kindness, and joy, she touched hearts everywhere. Maddy was born in St. Paul, Minn., daughter of Ferdinand and Cecelia Piotraschke. She worked as a bookkeeper until she retired. She resided in Arizona at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her loving partner and friend of 24 years Jim Hitchcock, her sisters and brothers Kenneth Piotraschke, Lorraine DeMatteo, and Teresa Brett. Maddy is survived by her eight children, 17 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren: children Timothy (Susan) Hanson of California, Jolene Elias of Utah, Cheryl (Tim) Klemmetsen of Minnesota, Thomas Hanson of Minnesota, Lenette (Don) Brown of California, Heide Hanson (Steve) Morris of Minnesota, Richard (Jennifer) Hanson of California, Trina Hanson of Utah; grandchildren Kristen, Brandy, Kyle, Joe, Tim, Nicholas, Nick, Jessica, Jeremiah, Michael, Carissa, Zachary, Chance, Alicia, Ben, Kenneth, and Justin; great-grandchildren Gracie, Lilli, Davin, Desiree, Dayja, and Draden. A memorial and celebration of her life is planned for Saturday (May 9) at 2 p.m. at West Park Club House, 2501 W. Wickenburg Way. People are asked to bring a written memoir or story to share with the family and place in the card box at the service. All donations will be given in Mom’s memory to the Yarnell Community Presbyterian Church she attended in Yarnell, Ariz.

JOHN S. HARDEE, JR., 79, of Morristown, died March 9. Mr. Hardee was born in Phoenix on Oct. 28, 1921. He graduated from Morristown School and Phoenix Union High School. He was a Tech/5 Sgt. In the U. S. Army from May 1944 to Mat 1946. The many medals and decoration awarded to him include the Bronze Star; two Purple Hearts, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Army Invasion Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal. Mr. Hardee owned and operated the 71 Cattle Co. in Gisela from 1947-1963. From 1963-1972 he was assistant warehouse manager and truck driver for Pratt Gilbert. From 1972 to the present he owned and operated Morristown Grocery and Bar. He was a life member of the Elks Club; life member of the National Rifle Association; and a member of the 65th Halbert. He was preceded in death by his parents John S. Hardee, Sr., and Golda Fern Hardee. He is survived by his wife, WILMA JEAN HARDEE of Morristown; daughters Golda Lynn Hardee and Laura Jane Carnie, both of Morristown, and Janice Jean White of Cottonwood/Clarkdale; sons Stephen Edward Holihan of Phoenix and John Shadrach Hardee III of Wickenburg; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Dr. Charles S. POLING, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, conducted funeral services for WINTHROP (WIN) HARRISON at 1:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the Wickenburg Chapel. Mrs. Paul SWANEY, accompanied by Mrs. Beulah PATTERSON, sang. Burial was to follow in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Harrison died before dawn Tuesday in Community Hospital where he had been a patient for several weeks following a heart attack. It was a heart condition which caused him to retire in 1948 from the investment department of the New York Life Insurance Co. in New York City and come to Wickenburg in October of that year to make his home. He had been with the New York Life for 32 years. Mr. Harrison was born May 13, 1897, in Hoboken, N. J. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Westwood, N. J., served in the Navy in World War I and belonged to a New York post of the American Legion. He was active in the Presbyterian Church here. Surviving are the widow, Helen HARRISON, and two nephews, Raymond HARRISON of Waldwick, N.J., and Richard HARRISON of Woodcliff Lake, N.J. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. HARRISON requested that donations be made to Community Hospital instead. Pallbearers were Paul SWANEY, Don McNERNEY, Dr. Forrest HARVEY, C. M. WILLIAMS, E. A. DONALD LEE HATTER of Wickenburg, age 77, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 28 in Scottsdale, Ariz., after an extended battle with throat cancer. Don was born in Willow, Okla., to Herbert L. and Mary (Wright) Hatter on September 6, 1930. After school he moved away to New Mexico, where he married LANORA THOMPSON. Shortly after, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War, receiving many medals of honor. Upon returning, he worked many years with his roofing business in Texas. Moving to Tempe, Ariz., in 1965, and on to Bullhead City are in 1968, he worked in the mobile home set-up industry. He retired to Sierra Vista in 1992 before coming to live in Wickenburg this year. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing, hunting, coaching baseball, riding motorcycles and horses. He was a champion roper and loved competing. A life time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, he served as Post Commander in Bullhead City. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Earl. Surviving family members are sons Rick Hatter, Ron Hatter, and Dustin Hoskins all of Las Vegas, Nev., son Rod Hatter of Phoenix, daughter Rhonda Stanley of Wickenburg, brothers Carroll Hatter and Travis Hatter of Abilene, Texas, sister Bobbie Babek of Granite, Okla., and their families. He was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with more on the way. Don had a quick wit about him and kept all of us laughing. We will miss you! A service was held on Saturday (Jan 5) in the sanctuary of First Southern Baptist Church with Pastor Dean Stanley officiating. Local arrangements are under the direction of David’s Desert Chapel. Interment and graveside service will be at Brinkman Cemetery in Oklahoma today (Wednesday, Jan 9) under the direction of Greer Funeral Home.

Rites pending for W.B. HARKLEROAD
WILLIAM BRUCE HARKLEROAD, 36, member of the Arizona Highway patrol, died at Community hospital at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday of a heart attack. Mr. Harkleroad had testified in a trial in Judge R. L. Westall’s court at 1 p.m. and was on patrol on Highway 60 – 70 about 3 miles west of town with Patrolman Recruit Alan Hansen when he complained of being ill. Hansen rushed him to the hospital. Funeral services had not been arranged when The Sun went to press. A native of Phoenix, Mr. Harkleroad served 4 years in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Phoenix Fire Department for 11 years prior to joining the patrol in June 1959. All his patrol service was in Wickenburg area. Surviving are the widow Ethel; two daughters, Diane, 14, and Candy 12; the mother, Mrs. E.T. HARKLEROAD of Casa Grande; one sister, Mrs. Tom CARLTON of Casa Grande; and one brother, Roy HARKLEROAD of Phoenix.

CHARLES F. HASELTINE, frequent winter visitor here, died August 26 in Presbyterian Hospital, Chicago, according to a message received by Mrs. Kitty McCRADY. Mr. Haseltine was the father of Helen HASELTINE of Wickenburg and Chicago. He had been ill for several months. No word was received here as to funeral arrangements other than that they would be held in Chicago with burial there. Surviving, in addition to the daughter, is a son, Donald, of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Funeral services for C. K. HASH, Yarnell resident, will be held at the A. L. Moore Mortuary in Phoenix Monday morning. Mr. Hash died Wednesday morning in the home of relatives in Anaheim, Calif., where he had gone in May for medical attention. Born in Bristol, Virginia, Mr. Hash lived in Phoenix for many years where he was a salesman. He retired four years ago and moved to Yarnell. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Marguerite HASH; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian JOHNSON of Marrows, Va., and Mrs. Louise ORR of Richmond, Va.; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Belle Regan of Yarnell.

RUSTY ED HASTINGS was born Dec. 3, 1950 in Wickenburg and died April 28 at Lake Roosevelt, Ariz. Rusty was a lifelong cowboy around Morristown and Castle Hot Springs area. As a boy, rusty attended school at the old Champie School at Castle Hot Springs. He later moved to Morristown and attended Morristown School. Rusty spent many years as a cowboy on Desert Hills Ranch for the last Irene EVANS and Dinky MOLINA. He later managed Desert Hills for R. H. JOHNSON. Rusty suffered poor health for many years, forcing him and his wife Marilyn to retire to Kingman and later to Lake Roosevelt where he spent the last years of his life fishing and collecting old County and Western albums. Rusty Hastings was a true cowboy in every sense. He rode for the brand. He will be dearly missed by all his friends and loved ones. Rusty was preceded in death by his mother Eugenia in 1981. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years Marilyn HASTINGS of Lake Roosevelt; his father Rusty HASTINGS and wife Betty of Morristown, Ariz.; brother Alvin Hastings of Williams; sisters Elaine LANCASTER of Kingman, Ariz.; Zona STODDARD of Wickenburg; Susan PAUL of Cave Creek, Ariz.; and brother Spencer HASTINGS of Phoenix, and much extended family. Memorial services will be held Saturday (May 3) at 3 p. m. at Morristown Christian Church with a potluck to follow at Desert Hills Ranch. HERB HAUSMAN, 72, of Congress died in the Ft. Whipple Veterans Hospital at Prescott November 8 and was buried there on November 10. Mr. Hausman, a native of Texas, had been living on the property of Mrs. Sarah HERSHKOWITZ at Congress since 1940. Mrs. Hershkowitz now lives in Wickenburg.

DEATH TAKES CARL HAWKINS
CARL HAWKINS, 39 years old, died Thursday morning in the Wickenburg hospital following a serious illness suffered two weeks ago. Mr Hawkins had been in ill health the past two years. Born in Cripple Creek, Colorado, September 22, 1903, Mr Hawkins and his family came to Wickenburg to make his home about four years ago. He was an honor graduate of the University of Colorado with the class of 1925, and served as pharmacist for both drug stores here in Wickenburg. He leaves many friends here and throughout the state who will mourn his passing. In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by two small daughters. Funeral arrangements were incomplete at this writing.

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of JERRALD JAY HAWKINSON on May 18. Born July 21, 1932 in St. Paul, Minn., Jerry is survived by his wife of 55 years Delaine; daughter Kim of Huntington Beach, Calif.; son Rande of San Antonio, Texas; their spouses; four granddaughters; two grandsons; brothers Donald of Melbourne, Florida, and Richard of Covington, Virginia; and sister Lois of Harlingen, Texas. Jerry retired from the U.S. Marine Corps, and after having come up through the ranks, he completed his 20 years of service as a Captain. The family made its home in Southern California, where he spent a number of years teaching aircraft mechanics at several local colleges. Probably one of his proudest endeavors was building a mountain home in Northern California in 1978. He and his son Rande spent many long hours building while his wife go-ferred and manned the chain saw while his daughter Kim stained many board feet of lumber. After various careers, he finally retired in 1994 to pursue his Swedish grandfather’s love of the violin. He learned to play and went on to repair and build fiddles. Moving to Wickenburg in 2004, he divided his time playing at the Wise Owl and Chaparral with his bosom buddy Ernie Varner. Ernie’s band was known as Country Grass, and they played and sang as long as anyone wanted them to. He had a repair shop in his home and helped many by repairing their instruments or simply providing parts, and advice, or hairing the bows. Jerry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wickenburg, where he served in several capacities. He enjoyed studying God’s word and singing in the choir. Cancer took him very quickly, and he will be missed more than words can say, but we know he will be playing in God’s heavenly band. Arrangements were made by David’s Desert Chapel and Funeral Home in Wickenburg.

PAT W. HAYES of Salome died Oct. 30 in Phoenix. He was 76. Mr. Hayes was born Nov. 9, 1919. In Alama, N.M., was a long time resident of Arizona, living in the state for 65 years. He and his wife Eunice own and operated a dairy in Scottsdale in 1955. He was a past member of the American Legion and the Wickenburg Roping Club. Mr. HAYES was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World II. He and his family moved from Scottsdale to Peeples Valley in 1950 and then to Wickenburg in 1965, where he resided until they moved to Salome in 1979. Mr. Hayes was a well-known cow-boy in this area for a longtime and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Mr. Hayes is survived by his, wife Eunice of Salome; son and daughter-in-law George and Pam HAYES of Salome; grandson, Harlan HAYES; great-granddaughter Britney; brother Art ROGERS of Wikeup, Ralph ROGERS of Vale, Oregon, and John ROGERS of Washington state; and sisters Cheryl WILSON of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Gladys BULLOCK of Fullerton, Calif. Services were held Monday, Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. at Brown’s Wickenburg Funeral Home, where Pastor Robert FOWLER officiated. Visitaion was conducted Monday, Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 10 a. m. a Brown Wickenburg Funeral Home Interment was held at the Veterans National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix. Brown’s Wickenburg Funeral Home handled all the arrangements.

EUNICE V. HAYES of Salome died Jan 13 in Phoenix. She was 78. Mrs. Hayes was born in Lordsburg, N. M. on June 1, 1922. She is survived by her son, George HAYES; grandsons Travis MOORE and Harlan HAYES; granddaughter Shannon MOORE; and several great-grandchildren.

DEBBIE HAYES-GARDNER, age 59, lost her battle to PSP (progressive supernuclear palsy) on April 2. She was born on August 14, 1948 to Pauline and Lois Hayes in Mayer, Ariz. She was a native Arizonan and lived in Wickenburg her whole life. She attended grade school in the historic Little Red School House and graduated from Wickenburg High School in 1966. Debbie married her soul-mate Roy Gardner on August 6, 1966. Debbie worked for the contract post office, Ace Hardware, and was a talented seamstress. She was very involved with Pop Warner football and was a member of Las Damas for 20 years. Her greatest love was her husband of 42 years, her two sons, and collecting and traveling. She is survived by her beloved husband Roy, son Shawn Gardner and wife Cindy; son Shane Gardner and wife Tonya; grandchildren Jonathan; Taylor, Austin, and Cheyenne; sisters Martha Taylor of Okanogan, Wash., Joann Holmes of Dowagiac, Mich.; brothers Louis Hayes of Wickenburg, Vernon Hayes of Congress, Lucky Hayes of Glendale; and many nieces and nephews. Debbie has donated her body to the Brain Foundation to someday help find a cure for PSP. There will be a celebration of life on Friday, April 18 at 4 p.m. at the Rancho Bar 7 back patio in downtown Wickenburg. RANCH CO-FOUNDER EDITH HAYMAN PASSES AWAY
EDITH COURTEEN GANT HAYMAN, helped establish Rancho de Caballeros in Wickenburg, 58 years ago, passed away Monday (Dec. 5) at Wickenburg Community Hospital. She was 84. Mrs. Hayman was born on July 9, 1921 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Herbert and Josephine COURTEEN. She graduated from Brownmoore School in Santa Fe, N.M. In October of 1941, she married Dallas C. GANT of Altus, Okla., in Santa Fe, N.M. In the winter months, the couple managed Remuda Ranch in Wickenburg for Jack and Sophie BURDEN and managed the Bishop's Lodge in Santa Fe, N.M., during the summer months until establishing Rancho de los Caballeros with C.L. MAGUIRE and Belford HOWARD in 1947. After the passing of Dallas GANT in 1967, she managed Los Caballeros until 1969, when Dallas, Jr., "Rusty" GANT graduated from Arizona State University and returned to the Ranch. In 1972, she married Francis L. HAYMAN of Princess Anne, Maryland, and was able to enjoy summers in Maryland and winters in Wickenburg until Mr. HAYMAN passed away in 1984. "Edie" was a Pink Lady at Wickenburg Hospital and was a founding member of the Las Damas riding group. She enjoyed golf and was an active member at both Wickenburg Country Club and Los Caballeros Golf Club. Mrs. HAYMAN is survived by son Dallas C. GANT, Jr. "Rusty" of Wickenburg; daughter Susan GANT BJERKE (Eric) of Tucson; grandchildren Nathan and Andrew BJERKE; sister Aileen COURTEEN CONTIN of Wickenburg; nephew Bart D. HALDON RAY HAYWOOD of Wilhoit, died March 14 at the Ft. Whipple VA Hospital in Prescott. He was 80. Mr. Haywood was born June 13, 1920 in Linton, Ind. He was a retired instrument repairman for the El Paso National Gas Co., and a World War II Army veteran. EVERETT M. HEATH of Moultonborough, New Hampshire, and a longtime winter resident of Wickenburg, died March 26 at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia, N.H. He was 86. Mr. Heath was born in 1915 in New Hampshire. He graduated from Franklin High School and after studying diesel engineering became a partner in Franklin Grocery. He and his wife, Madeline, moved to Wimot Flat and began a grocery business in 1941. In 1945 the couple moved to Center Harbor and Mr. Heath purchased the I.G. Lunt store, which he operated for more than 55 years, under the E. Heath Inc. banner. Mr. Heath was master of the Chocorua Lodge 83 and received his 50-year pin in 1997. He was 32nd Degree Mason. He was Center Harbor town treasurer from 1946 to 1963 and served on the Center Harbor and Inter-Lakes school boards as well as the board of directors of the New Hampshire Music Festival. He was active in Republican Party affairs all his life. He was one of the founders of the New Hampshire Grocers Association and served as chairman in 1955-56. He was honored as Grocer of the Year in 1976.
Mr. Heath retired from active business in 1978 but continued as chairman of the board of E.M. Heath Inc. In 1955 he and his wife began spending part of the winter in Arizona, and built a home in Wickenburg in 1964. In Wickenburg he served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and with a group mapping parts of rural Wickenburg. He and his wife returned every winter to Wickenburg. Mr. Heath was an active member of the Holiday Ramblers, an RV Club, and participated in events all around the country, especially in Maine, New Hampshire and Arizona. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, MADELINE WHITE HEATH of Moultonborough; three sons, Robert HEATH of Center Harbor, Roger HEATH of Salisbury and Richard HEATH of Moultonborough; three grandchildren; three sisters, Miriam TAYLOR and Barbara RICHFORD, both of Franklin, and Mildred CUSHING of Hopkinton and Florida; and a brother, Bernard HEATH of Concord. Services have been held.

Rites Held For JOHN P. HEDRICK
Funeral services were held at 4 o'clock last Saturday afternoon in the First Presbyterian Church here for John P. Hedrick, elderly father of Mrs. Esther WESTALL, who passed away May 17 in Community Hospital where he had been a patient since May 13. Burial took place in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Born in Poca, West Virginia, June 3, 1866, Mr. HEDRICK would have observed his 90th birthday next month. Before coming to Wickenburg in 1929, he spent 46 years as a coal miner in West Virginia and Kansas. During his residence here, he served as a caretaker at both Remuda and Monte Vista Ranches, for a period of 15 years. Several years ago he returned to Poca where he made his home with two sisters but he returned to Wickenburg last Fall and has been living with his daughter and family here. His wife, Myrtle, passed away May 3, 1943. Mr. Hedrick is survived by four daughters and four sons: Mrs. WESTALL of Wickenburg; Mrs. E. M. RATHBURN, Hawthorne, Calif.; Mrs. Ralph TOLMAN, Lompoc, Calif.; Mrs. John LOSS, Berwyn, Ill.; Julian, Kansas City, Missouri; Stanford, Detroit Mich.; Carl, North Miami; Fla., and Lyde, Seattle, Wash. Also surviving are the two sisters, Florence and Frances HEDRICK of Poca and three brothers, Hubert of Charleston, West Va., and Elmer and Walter of Ohio. Mr. Hedrick left 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Mrs Hedrick was born in Martin County, Kentucky, February 8, 1882. She met and married Mr. Hedrick in Ansted, W. Virginia in 1898. Leaving there in 1909 for Pittsburg, Kansas. They lived in Arizona since 1922. Besides her husband, Mrs. Hedrick is survived by 8 children, Julian, of Kansas City, Mo.; Goldie Loss of Chicago, Ill.; Stan of Detroit, Mich., Esther Westall of Wickenburg; twins, Carl of Detroit Mich., Muriel Rathburn of Seal Beach, Calif.; twins Lyde of Alaska and Laura Tolman of Lompoc, Cal. Funeral services were held from the Wickenburg Chapel, Wednesday, May 5, at 10 a. m. the Rev. B. J. Russell, of the Assembly of God Church, of which she was a member, officiated.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Wickenburg Chapel for WILLIAM J. HELME, 87-year-old resident who died early Friday morning at the Wickenburg Community Hospital. Services were conducted by the Rev. William Shepson of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Phoenix, and burial followed in the Wickenburg cemetery. Mr Helme was born October 13, 1862, in Brooklyn, N. Y. In June 1927 he married Anna S. Helme of Long Island City, N. Y. A shipbuilder by trade, he retired in 1931 and moved to Wickenburg for Mrs Helme's health. In addition to the widow, he is survived by a son, Frank S. Helme of Port Jefferson, N. Y.' two daughters, Martha of San Francisco and Marion Conklin of Rhinebeck, N. Y.; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

FAMILY OF FOUR INSTANTLY KILLED IN HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH HEAVYTRUCK
Six crates of refrigerating equipment, each weighing 1,100 pounds, were thrown to the pavement from the army truck and trailer hauling them to Phoenix last Wednesday evening on the outskirts of Wittmann when an automobile in which a Prescott family of four was riding, collided head-on with the truck. The four people in the passenger car were killed instantly. Their mangled bodies were brought to the Wickenburg Chapel by Howard L. COFFINGER and later sent to Prescott.
Highway Patrolman Everett BOWMAN, who investigated the accident, and residents of Wittmann who quickly gathered at the scene of the crash, were astounded at the damage resulting from the crash. The passenger car was chewed and crushed to bits and the four bodies were almost beyond identification when extricated from under the front of the truck, back of the front wheels, From papers found in their possession, Justice of the Peace Bob C. STORNS, acting as coroner, was able to establish identification. The dead were Mr. and Mrs. CHARLES E. HELMS of Prescott; their son, DENVER (HELMS), age 18, and a granddaughter, RACHAEL NALLEY, age 11.
The crash occurred just a few hundred feet south of Dewey's Cafe and Garage, on a short concrete bridge. Dewey DeWITT, proprietor, who was one of the first to reach the scene, aided by other volunteers, helped control, traffic on both sides of the accident. It is estimated that more than 200 vehicles were held up in either direction. The accident happened around 8: 15 o'clock.

KENNETH DALE HENRICHSEN of Yarnell died June 29, 2001 in Yarnell. He was 80. Mr. Henrichsen was born Dec. 31, 1920 in Holiday, Utah, and had lived in Arizona for 37 years. Kenneth retired from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years and is a veteran of World War II during which he was a gunner for the 351st Bombardment Group in the European theatre. Survivors include wife DOREEN HENRICHSEN; daughters Mary and Misty; sons Michael, David, Thomas, Kevin, Mark and Larin; one sister; one brother; 24 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 7 at the Frey Funeral Home in Wickenburg, with Father John Vogt officiating. HAROLD LEE HENSON, 81, of Phoenix and former mayor of Wickenburg passed away May 9, 2005. Harold was born March 10, 1924 in Holdenville, Okla., and moved to Arizona in 1936. He served in the Army in World War II in the Pacific Theater, 138th Field Artillery Battalion. Harold taught seventh and eighth grades in Wickenburg from 1949-1959 and was mayor of Wickenburg from 1954-1958. Harold was responsible for putting the “No fishing from bridge” signs at the Hassayampa Bridge, and during his term as mayor, Highway 93 was completed between Kingman and Wickenburg. Also, he was a key factor in getting natural gas into town to replace bottled gas. Harold was proud to have accomplished many things as mayor and is remembered fondly being “hung” several times by the Gold Shirt Gang during Gold Rush Days. He was elected to be the president of the Arizona league of Cities and Towns in the late 1950s. he worked for the Arizona Education Association from 1959 until his retirement in 1986. Harold is survived by his wife Velma; daughter Patsy Henson, son Bill Henson; granddaughter Dawnie (Gary) Steadman and great-grandson Ryan Steadman. Services were held Friday (May 13) at Hansen Chapel in Phoenix. Interment was at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to Arizona State University College of Education Scholarship Fund.

Monte Vista Guest Dies
EDWARD HERHOLD of Chicago, retired furniture manufacturer who came to Wickenburg as a guest at Monte Vista Ranch early last week, died unexpectedly in a Phoenix hospital Saturday noon. He had entered the hospital for observation and treatment of a minor ailment. He died while having lunch Mrs. Herhold at the hospital. Mr. Herhold, who was 65 years of age maintained his residence in Dundee, Ill., where he had purchased a home built by Rush Smith, now a resident of Wickenburg, in a real estate development there. Mr. and Mrs. Herhold had planned to spend the winter here and were seriously considering establishing their permanent residence in this section. The remains were taken to Chigaco Sunday night for burial. Besides the widow, Mrs. Helen Herhold, the deceased is survived by a sister, Miss. Amelia Herhold, also of Chicago.

Town Lost Its Oldest Pioneer When MRS. FRANCISCA HERNANDEZ, 77, Died
Wickenburg’s oldest native pioneer- MRS. FRANCISCA HERNANDEZ – died early last Sunday morning. Mrs. Hernandez who resided in a little wooden house just east of the Wickenburg Elementary School for many years, was born at the Vulture Mine October 1, 1881, the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Ygnacio GARCIA. She lived at the mine and in Wickenburg all her 77 years. It was her father, known as the “Grand Old Man of Wickenburg,” who donated the land on which the Wickenburg Elementary School and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church are now located, and gave the land too for the cemetery which now bears his name. He came to Wickenburg first in 1862, when only four or five people lived, from his native Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. He died May 7, 1928. Mrs. Hernandez went to Phoenix Tuesday of last week to visit her son, Tino Cambres. She became ill Saturday and died before she could be taken to a Hospital. The family brought her home to Wickenburg where Rosary services were held Tuesday evening and funeral services were conducted in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at 8 o’clock Wednesday morning by Rev. D. F. O’Sullivan. Then she was laid to rest in the Garcia Cemetery near her father and mother. Surviving, in addition to the son, is a brother, Gabriel Garcia of Keene, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Resureccion Burson of Hermosa Beach, Calif. Her husband, Juan, preceded her in death. When her father died The Wickenburg miner said that he had over 60 immediate relatives in Wickenburg. While many of those have since died or moved away, Mrs. Hernandez still is survived by a host of relatives and many friends here in Wickenburg.

EDYTHE ROSE “SQUIRRELY” HERNDON, 92, passed away Sunday, April 8 at Sun Health Hospice in Sun City West. She was born June 20, 1914 in Elgin, Ill., to Ernest Burren and Rosa Baumgartner Burren. She married Sanford Clyde Herndon in 1936. Clyde passed away in 1981. Squirrely came to Wickenburg in 1956. She worked at Ryan Evans Drug Store, Wickenburg Pharmacy, and T&S Variety. While Wickenburg was her home, she spent many summers in the Pinetop Lakeside area. She was an avid bowler until she was 90 years old, at which time the local bowling alley closed. In her younger years she loved to swim, and she spent many afternoons at the Wickenburg public pool swimming with her granddaughter Julie. She loved the outdoors and feeding the birds outside her home daily. Her favorite hobby was knitting, having made afghans for each grandchild and great-grandchild as well as many friends. Just a few weeks ago, she made a small, personalized afghan for her friend Linda's puppy. Squirrely was preceded in death by her sun Butch Herndon of Wickenburg in June of 2006. She is survived by her daughter Tootie (Mike) Sargent of Wickenburg; four grandchildren Julie (John) Sparks of Chandler; Jeff Sargent of Big Timber, Mont.; Cissy Herndon of Wickenburg; and Heidi (Rich) Granatelli of Peoria; 10 great-grandchildren John V and Jake Sparks of Chandler; Sara Kendra, Haley, and Kelsey Sargent of Big Timber, Mont.; Emily Lynch of Wickenburg, Kate, Jerin, and Xander Granatelli of Peoria. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 14 at 2 p.m. at the Wickenburg Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the charity of choice or the Wickenburg Library.

CAROLINA MACIAS HERSHKOWITZ was born on Nov. 3, 1914 in Wickenburg, Arizona, to Francisco Macias and Aurora Rodriguez Macias. Her grandfather Ramon Macias and grandmother Canuta Carrasco MACIAS ranched 160 acres along the Hassayampa River in the early 1860s. She resided on a portion of the original homestead. Carolina passed away peacefully on May 20 in Canoga Park, Calif., near her two sons, Alfred and Leroy HERSHKOWITZ. She was preceded in death by her young daughter Diana Aleine in 1937, husband Allen in 1988, sister Carmen Macias WARNER, and four brothers, Manuel, Frank, Raymond and Alfred Macias. And by her parents and grandparents.
She is survived by her sons Alfred and wife Judy HERSHKOWITZ, and Leroy Howard HERSHKOWITZ; grandchildren Gary HERSHKOWITZ, Bruce Hershkowitz, Theresa BLAIR, and Becky GITTINS; and great-grandchildren Missy HERSHKOWITZ, Anthony Hershkowitz, Robin SCHMIT, Michelle BLAIR, Heather, and Bryan Michael Gittins. Also surviving is sister-in-law Belle HERSHKOWITZ DECK of Congress, and numerous nephews and nieces, cousins and friends. Her great-niece, Julia Macias Brooks, was her caregiver and confidant for many years. Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 24 at the Wickenburg Funeral Home. IRENE ORTEGA HERSHKOWITZ of Wickenburg, passed on peacefully surrounded by loved ones on March 24, in Phoenix. Irene was very proud to have been the first baby born in Arizona on Jan. 1, 1932. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben L. and Eva OCAMPO ORTEGA, pioneers of Wickenburg, and by her brother, Daniel. She was the granddaughter of Teodoro Mazon and Mariana Rodriguez Ocampo, who settled in Wickenburg in 1860. Irene was a graduate of the Wickenburg schools. While a student in high school, she was a delegate to Arizona Girls State. She graduated from Arizona State University in 1954 with a BA in Education. She taught in the Aguila-Wickenburg area from 1963-1974. In 1970, she was the recipient of the Kellogg Award, which enabled her to continue her education at the University of Arizona. She was later certified to teach English as a second language. She taught school for 38 years with positions in Gilbert, Phoenix, Aguila and Wickenburg. She retired in 1992, ending her career in the Phoenix Elementary School District, where she taught English as a second language. Irene volunteered for many years at the Friendly House, Phoenix, teaching English to Spanish-speaking students. She also volunteered for many years at the Phoenix Museum of History as a docent and a member of the Board of Directors. She recently had begun adding to her volunteer services at the Orpheum Theater. She was a member of the Phoenix Museum of History, Desert Caballeros Western Museum, The First Families of Arizona, and the Past Finders. She was a past member of the Business and Professional Women in Wickenburg.
She is survived by her son, Philip Ben, daughter-in-law Martha, and grandchildren Sarah, Anna, Julie and Mitchell, all of Scottsdale. She is also survived by her sister, Maria Ortega DeHart and brother-in-law Ron DeHart, of Glendale, and by her brother, Felix Ben Ortega of Palmdale, Calif. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews: Eva L. DeHart of Glendale, Irene Rene DeHart of Kingman, Daphne and Steven Zieder of Glendale, Kimberly Sue DeHart of Phoenix, Ron DeHart, Jr. of San Diego, Calif., Della Ortega of Oceanside, Calif., Yvette and Matt Heintz of North Carolina, Felix Ortega, Jr. of Mesa, and Daniel, Ruth Ann, Jo Frances and Bernard. Also surviving are her great-nieces and nephews: Kyle and Aaron Zieder, Jacqueline and Travis Miller, Zachary Heintz, Daniel and Asia Ortega, Kristie DeHart, and Karl and Kameron Eckart. In addition, she is survived by numerous cousins from the Ortega, Quesada and Ocampo families, her nieces and nephews from the Hershkowitz family, as well as the Jahntz family and many friends. Grandma Irene will be dearly missed by many, but by none more than her grandchildren, her pride and joy. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday, March 30 at Frey Funeral Home in Wickenburg. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 31 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Wickenburg, with Fr. John Vogt officiating. Interment will be in the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. WILLIAM HERWIG Of Kansas Died Here
WILLIAM H. HERWIG, 69, of Manhattan, Kansas, died in Community Hospital early Sunday morning. He had been admitted to the hospital on the Thursday before. Mr. HERWIG, with his wife, came here December 28 for his health and had been staying at the Sun Valley Motel. The body was shipped to Manhattan Tuesday for funeral services and burial. Robert HERWIG of St. Louis, a son, came Sunday and drove the widow back to Manhattan. A daughter, Mrs. Robert E. GORDON of St. Louis, Missouri, also survives.

MONTE VISTA GUEST DIES UNEXPECTEDLY
EDWARD HERHOLD of Chicago, retired furniture manufacturer who came to Wickenburg as a guest at Monte Vista Ranch early last week, died unexpectedly in a Phoenix hospital Saturday noon. He had entered the hospital for observation and treatment of a minor ailment. He died while having lunch with Mrs. HERHOLD at the hospital. Mr. HERHOLD, who was 65 years of age, maintained his residence in Dundee. Illinois, where he had purchased a home built by Rush SMITH, now a resident of Wickenburg, in a real estate development there. Mr. and Mrs. HERHOLD had planned to spend the winter here and were seriously considering establishing their permanent residence in this section. The remains were taken to Chicago Sunday night for burial. Besides the widow, Mrs. Helen HERHOLD, the deceased is survived by a sister, Miss Amelia HERHOLD, also of Chicago.

OLIVER HEULOTH, Ex-Mayor Here Killed on Docks
OLIVER HEULOTH, who served as Mayor of Wickenburg from 1946 through 1948, was killed at 11 a.m. last Saturday on the San Pedro, Calif., harbor loading docks where he worked. A net of cargo, being hoisted aboard a ship, fell and crushed him. Funeral services were held in San Pedro Wednesday morning with burial in that city. It was during Mr. Heuloth’s administration as mayor that the present town hall was built. At one time he operated the Wickenburg Dairy in partnership with Harold Nervick who now lives in San Pedro and who is also connected with a ship loading firm. Just prior to leaving here, Mr. Heuloth was a member of the local crew of the Arizona Highway Department. Surviving are the widow, Nell Heuloth; two daughters, Mrs. Stuart Evans of Phoenix and Mrs. Robert Felder of Gardenia, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD HERE MONDAY FOR TWO BROTHERS
In simple but impressive rites at the Wickenburg chapel last Monday morning, friends and relatives paid their final respects to two pioneer Arizonans and respected, honored residents of the Wickenburg area for many years, EDGAR CHARLES and MYRON F. HILL, brothers, whose deaths occurred within 24 hours her last week-end. Myron, the younger brother, born April 3, 1884, passed away at Community Hospital at 11 a.m. Friday, September 23. His older brother, born April 22, 1878 was summoned at 6 o’clock the following morning in the same hospital. Both had been in ill health for a number of years. Both were born in Wisconsin and came to Arizona in 1885, the family establishing a home in Flagstaff. The two brothers spent many years in the mining business in Northern Arizona, in the Belmont, Jerome, Mayer and Humbolt regions. The younger brother, Myron, left the mining business in 1930 when he moved to Prescott and became an automobile mechanic. Approximately 10 years later he moved to Wickenburg where he worked in the garage at Tegner and First Streets which had been erected by Ed Hill upon the latter’s retirement from active mining in the early 20’s. The garage was known for many years as Hills’s Garage and down through the years was leased by several men, including Wickenburg’s present mayor, Joe WALTERS. It is now known as the Sears & Hill Motor company. In 1945, Myron Hill returned to Prescott to resume work for the L.B. PRICE Company there, but ill health forced him to abandon all work in 1947, when he returned to Wickenburg to live. Surviving MYRON HILL are a daughter, Mrs. Mary HARRINGTON of Wickenburg and two step-sons, Kewen and Durward SAVAGE, both of Los Angeles; also a sister, Mrs. Minnie BRITZ of Phoenix, and two grandchildren, Mary Lorraine and Joan Bernice, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brian HARRINGTON.
EDGAR HILL, more familiarly known to hundreds of friends here and around the state as “Ed” was owned of several mines in the Mayer district where he lived a member of years, likewise in the vicinity of Poland Junction where he resided 20 years. He became affiliated with the B.P.O.E. (Elks Lodge) at Prescott and at the time of his death had been a member of more than 23 consecutive years. He was the owner of a ranch on the big Bug as well as the garage he built here, at the time of his death. Active in many civic affairs here, he served as a member of Town Council from July 1 of 1946 to July 1948. He was one of the founders and first president of the Wickenburg Protective Association created in 1946 to successfully resist granting of a franchise for electric power to the Central Arizona Light & Power Company.
Surviving Ed Hill are the widow, Mrs. Myrna HILL and a step-daughter, Mrs. Jennie NELSON of Needles. She is the mother of Lawrence NELSON of Parker, formerly of Wickenburg, and Mrs. Katherine SMILEY of Needles. Also surviving is the sister, Mrs. Minnie BRITZ of Phx. Rev. Charles SURBER of the First Presbyterian Church conducted the double funeral service here Monday, following which the remains of the two men were taken to Prescott for the burial side-by-side in the cemetery there. The Elks conducted the graveside services for Ed Hill.

CHARLES G. HILL of Scottsdale and Yarnell, died May 10 in Yarnell. He was 73. Mr. Hill was born May 8, 1923 in St. Joseph, Mo. He had lived in Arizona for 69 years, coming from Missouri as small boy. Mr. HILL grew up in Superior. He resided in Scottsdale throughout his adult life, working as a mechanic for the Salt River Project. He was a Navy veteran, serving in World War II. Mr. HILL is survived by his wife, Lila Lee HILL of Yarnell; daughter Lora Lee WHITE; sons Charles, Tony, Steve, and Jess HILL; sister Barbara WAREN; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Memorial services were held Tuesday, May 14 at Paradise Valley Community Church in Phoenix. The Rev. William R. NOTEHELFER officiated. Frey Funeral Home and Cremation Service handled all arrangements.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Ross Cleeland at the chapel in Aguila last Thursday for ANNA VERDE HILLIARD, who passed away in the Wickenburg Hospital February 23, following an illness of almost a year. Mrs Hilliard had resided at Aguila since 1916 and leaves many friends there and in Wickenburg who mourn her passing. Born at Campe Verde, Arizona, Mrs Hilliard later resided at Mesa Arizona, where she was graduated from the Mesa High School. She was married to Eugene Clyde Hilliard July 13, 1922. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Carl, who is attending college in Phoenix. Interment was made in the Aguila Cemetery.

RICHARD HINKLE of Wickenburg, died Oct. 1 in Wickenburg. He was 75. He was born Jan. 19, 1926 in Iowa. He had lived in Arizona for the past 18 years. Richard married Marilyn Hoser in 1952 (49 years). He worked for the Department of Transportation in Iowa for 22 years. He owned R&M Sales in Fairfield, Iowa. He retired to Wickenburg in 1983. Richard always said that he could fix anything but a broken heart. He spent many hours helping family and friends. ARTHUR C. HOENE, JR. died March 20 in Glendale, Ariz. Art was born in Duluth, Minn., in 1912, third oldest of a family of 12. He graduated from Duluth Boy's Cathedral High School where he played with great success on the hockey and football teams. He attended Duluth Junior College for one year, and while there he played on a championship football team. He graduated from the University of Norte Dame and then earned a law degree from the University of Harvard Law School. In 1941 Art entered the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, becoming an officer and was immediately assigned to a Coast Guard Cutter on convoy duty in the North Atlantic, eventually rising to the position of Executive Officer. At war's end he joined the Judge Advocate General's Office as a Coast Guard Hearing Officer serving the Portland and San Francisco areas. He retired from the Coast Guard with the rank of Commander after 22 years of service. For the past several years he lived in Wickenburg where he played golf nearly every day. Part of every summer he would spend in Duluth and Schultz Lake. Preceding him in death was his sister June Petersen; brothers Howard, John, Philip, William, Thomas, and Richard. Art is survived by his sister Mary Grace Campbell of Minneapolis; brothers Rev. Robert Hoene, S.J. of Wauwatosa, Wis.; David Hoene of Boise, Idaho; Herbert Hoene of Duluth, Minn.; and 68 nephews and nieces. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held a later date in Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary in Duluth, Minn. Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home.

Rites Held Here For GUS HOFFMAN
Funeral services were held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning, January 3, at the Wickenburg Chapel for August H. (Gus) HOFFMAN, former well known resident of Wickenburg who passed away December 29 in Butte, Montana following a heart attack. He was 72 years of age. Mrs. Lottie CROZIER conducted the services and burial took place in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Hoffman lived in Wickenburg for several years before moving to Butte in 1950. While a resident here he was active in the Round-Up Club. He owned property in this town. At the time of his death he was associated with Hennesy's Department Store in Butte, in the appliance department. Surviving are the widow, Nell, a son, Jack HOFFMAN of Butte and a step-son, Allen B. CONNER of La Mesa, Calif. A sister and brother-in-law are Mr. & Mrs. Bert HEADLEY of Wickenburg. Several grandchildren also survive.

The burned body of ROSS HOGUE was found in his fire-gutted trailer Tuesday afternoon 3 miles north of Morristown on the San Domingo Wash Road. The fire apparently broke out the night before but was not discovered until about 3 p.m. by Robert WILLIAMS, a neighbor, says Sgt. Dave CARTER of the sheriff’s office. An investigation indicates that Mr. HOGUE died in the fire and there is no reason to suspect foul play, says Sgt. CARTER. Cause of the fire is unknown. Mr. HOGUE, about 75 years old, had lived in the Morristown area for about 12 years. Sgt. Carter says that Mr. Hogue had no known relatives.

JAMES "JIM" C. HOIBY of Wickenburg died Nov. 19 in Sun City West. He was 81. Mr. Hoiby was born June 21, 1915 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He had lived in Arizona for the past years, coming from Minnesota. Mr. Hoiby was the vice President and chief engineer of ONAN Corp., which manufactured electrical standby generating systems. He was employed there 43 years. The present engineering building at the ONAN Corp is named after Mr. Hoiby. After his retirement, he enjoyed designing and building different systems, including the solar heating system for his home. Mr. Hoiby also enjoyed flying and owning his own plane, and boating when he lived in Minneapolis. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Betty HOIBY of Wickenburg; daughter Linda Petersen of Denver, Colo.; and sons Gary HOIBY of San Francisco, Calif. and James HOIBY of Tucson. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Hoiby;sister Elizabeth Onan and brother Henry HOIBY Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov; 23 at 10 a.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wickenburg with graveside services following at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. WILLIAM V. HOLCOMB of Circle City died Jan. 15 in Wickenburg Regional Hospital. He was 78. Mr. Holcomb was born Jan. 30, 1916 in Chino, Calif. He had lived in Arizona for the past 11 years. Mr. Holcomb was a veteran of World War II; a member of The Palm West Community Church in Sun City West; and a third generation native of California. The town of Holcomb Valley, Calif., was named after his family. Survivors include his wife Lola of Circle City; son Dale HOLCOMB of Phoenix; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Palm West Community Church in Sun City West, and a visitation was conducted Friday, Jan. 17 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Wickenburg Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Ralph DANIELS officiated the ceremonies. Burial was conducted at the Morristown Cemetery. Brown’s Wickenburg Funeral Home Inc. handled all the arrangements.

WILLIAM V. HOLCOMB of Circle City died Jan. 15, in Wickenburg Regional Hospital. He was 78. Mr. Holcomb was born Jan. 30, 1916 in Chino, Calif. He had lived in Arizona for the past 11 years. Funeral services were scheduled for Thursday afternoon of this week in Phoenix for HARRY (MIKE) HOLLAR, 20, only grandson of Mrs. Kay Walters of Wickenburg. Young Hollar a resident of Scottsdale, died Monday in Glendale, Calif., where he had gone two weeks previously. Burial was to be in Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Scottsdale. Surviving, in addition to Mrs. Walters, are the mother, Mrs. K. STOUSS of Phoenix, and the father, Harry H. HOLLARS of Scottsdale.

Our beautiful MARILYNE RUTH HOLDREN UHLMANN-HOWLAND passed way after more than a year of battling with ovarian cancer. As a teenager in Mesa, she was the first Arizona Junior Maid of Cotton, Mesa Rawhide Roundup Queen, Salad Bowl (now Fiesta Bowl) Queen and first woman President of Scottsdale Board of Realtors. She was a three-year member of the National Honor Society at Mesa High School, graduating in 3 years. She was voted prettiest girl and won the JC Penny State Sewing Contest for her age group in 1949. Her words, “I was born a real estate broker,” placed her with Russ Lyon Realty and her own firm, Uhlmann International Real Estate and Development, which is widely known in real estate circles. She was often referred to as “Scottsdale’s Elizabeth Taylor.” Sharing a love for animals with husband Richard HOWLAND, they had numerous pets and raised miniature horses and Missouri Fox Trotters on their Wickenburg ranch “Quail Ridge”. Her very special loves were her tiny Maltese “Christmas” and her trotter gelding “Echo.” She is survived by her husband Richard Howland; her sister Pat HOWARD; twin sons Kent and Brent MELDRUM; step-daughter Luanne PASSMORE and granddaughter Amber PASSMORE; son-in-law Randy PASSMORE and grandson Kevin PASSMORE and many others whom she loved. JOHN HOLMES, A Frequent Visitor Here, Died Sunday
JOHN HOLMES, 71, former president and chairman of Swift & Co. who spent numerous winter vacations in Wickenburg, died of a heart attack Sunday in Tucson where he was vacationing. Mr. Holmes had resided in Naperville, Ill. Mr. & Mrs. Don KERR tell us that Mr. Holmes was their first guest when they opened the Slash Bar K Ranch in 1947. A native of Belfast, Ireland, Mr. Holmes came to the United States when he was t years old and joined the Swift meat packing firms as a messenger boy at age 15. he was president from 1927 to 1955 when he became chairman of the board. He relinquished the chairmanship in 1959 and resigned as a director in January of this year.

ELSIE KATE DRANE PARKS HOLT of Kirkland, died March 25 in Prescott She was 87. Mrs. Holt was born Sept 5, 1908 in Rockburg, Nebraska. She had lived in Arizona for the past 17 years. Mrs. HOLT was an active member of her church, Jehovah's Witness. She and her family traveled by wagon train when she was young from her birth place to Ridge, Mont. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lester HOLT of Prescott; grandchildren Lee M. and Judy HOLT of Nevada, and Michael W. and Julie HOLT of Arizona; and seven great grandchildren, Lee M. James, Jesse L., Pamela, Sarah, Jennifer and Michelle HOLT. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Marion and Lena Helen Irish HOLT, her husband, Edward L. PARKS, and a son, Edward A. Services Tuesday for MAURICE HOLT
Funeral services for MAURICE HOLT were held in the Wickenburg Chapel at 3 o’clock last Tuesday afternoon with Dr. Charles S. POLING officiating. Burial followed in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Holt, who had been in ill health for about a month, was admitted to Community Hospital last Saturday morning. He died at 9:45 o’clock the following morning. Born in Paris, Mississippi, November 14, 1906, Mr. Holt was a farmer there until he came to Wickenburg in 1937. He and Mrs. Holt spent one year here and then returned to Paris for a year. In 1939 they came to Wickenburg again and have resided here since then. The Holt home is 2 ½ miles east of town off the phoenix highway. Mr. Holt had carried the mail on the Morristown to Castle Hot springs route since 1941. Surviving are the widow, Allie; one son, Keith of Winslow; the mother, Mrs. Ada L. HOLT of Memphis, Tennessee; two brothers, Horace of St. Augustine, Florida, and Emmett of Water Valley, Mississippi; three sisters, Mrs. Katheryn YOUNG of Memphis, Tennessee, Mrs. Christine HUTCHESON of Denton, Texas, and Mrs. Faye PIGFORD of Birmingham, Ala; and three grandchildren.

WALTER N. HOMAN Takes Own Life
WALTER N. HOMAN, a retired Union Pacific railroad engineer and resident of Arizona for the past decade, took his own life at his home here early last Saturday morning. Justice of the Peace R. L. WESTALL, in his capacity as ex-officio coroner, said Mr. Homan, who was in poor health, draped a blanket over a gas heating stove, put his head under the blanket and turned on the gas. Mr. Homan left a note addressed to his son, W. T. HOMAN of Los Angeles, who is believed to be a pilot for Western Airlines. Judge WESTALL had the body sent to Phoenix for an autopsy. Cremation followed. Mr. Homan was born October 15, 1882 and is believed to have lived in Nevada for many years while employed by the Union Pacific. He was an honorary life member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

Mrs. Hoskin first lived in Wickenburg in 1948. After her husband, Gerald W. HOSKIN, died in 1956, she moved to Utah and then returned to Wickenburg in 1985. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wickenburg Ward. Survivors include three sons, Dr. Jerry L. HOSKIN of Watsonville, Calif., Dale A. HOSKIN of Peoria, and Harvey R. MARIE MARGARET HOSLER of Wickenburg, died July 16 in the Wickenburg Care Center. She was 88. Mrs. Hosler was born March 17, 1908 in Minnesota. She had lived in Arizona for the past 12 years. Mrs. Hosler grew up in Minnesota and spent many years on a farm near Pleasant Plain, Iowa. She retired in Surburban Heights, Fairfield for 17 years, and then came to Arizona. Mrs. Hosler was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church of Wickenburg. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Glenn, of the Wickenburg Care Center; daughter Patricia of the Wickenburg Care Center; daughter Marilyn HINKLE of Wickenburg; son-in-law Richard HINKLE of the Wickenburg Care Center; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Lorene of MOLALLA, Ore.; five grandchildren, Brenda Abbott, Sandra Jordan Richard, Chris and Kurt HINKLE; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille, brother, Melvin, two half brothers, Adolph and Harry, and three half sisters, Anne, Helen and Gertrude. GEORGE D. HOUGH of Wickenburg, died Feb. 27. He was 93. Mr. Hough was born March 5, 1907 in Trout Lake, Mich. He had lived in Arizona for the past five years. Mr. Hough retired from Garrison Sales of Phoenix in 1970 and moved to Yarnell and then to Wickenburg in 1996. He was a life member of the B.P.O. Elks and was initiated in Grand Rapids, Mich. by the father of President Gerald Ford. He served in Anchorage, Alaska during World War II. Mr. Hough was founding member of the Arizona Mineralogical Society and the Maricopa County Jeep Posse. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Marie; daughter Jean McGrath of Glendale; sister Marie Furlong of Lansing, Mich.; grandchildren Jon McGrath of Mammoth Lakes, Calif., Susan Connors of Mayer, and Annie Sugarman of Glendale; and great-grandchildren Katy, Megan and Claire Connors, and Iris, Cedar and Taylor Sugarman. Tragedy Strikes Stanaway Family
September 29 was a tragic day for Mr. & Mrs. Ed STANAWAY and members of their family. As previously reported in The SUN, their daughter, Michelle, 4½, and Mrs. Stanaway's sister, MRS. OPAL HOUSTON, 29, of London, England, were instantly killed in an automobile wreck near Caliente, Nevada, on September 24. Two days later, Mrs. Stanaway's father, JESS PENDLETON, 68, died at his home in Leavenworth, Washington. One funeral service was held for all three and all three, representing three generations, were laid to rest beside each other in a beautiful cemetery at Cashmere, Washington. The English Army Air Corps flew M/Sgt. Dale HOUSTON and his seven children from London to Washington when he received word of his wife's death. The children range in age from 7 months to 13 years. Their mother had come to America just a few days before to see her father who was then seriously ill. It was when the dying father asked to see the Stanaway children that Mrs. HOUSTON and her brother, Frank PENDLETON, drove to Wickenburg to get them. It was on the trip back to Washington that the accident happened. Mr. PENDLETON, the brother, was injured. The seven little English chi1dren, says Mr. STANAWAY, will remain in America while their father returns to his Army career in London.

Services Monday for GRADY HOWELL
Funeral services for GRADY HOWELL were conducted in the Wickenburg Chapel Monday morning by the Rev. James Wilson, Presbyterian minister. Burial was in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Howell, who first came to Wickenburg in 1918, died in community Hospital at 1:20 a.m. Friday of last week. Mr. Howell was born in Corsicana, Texas, December 7, 1898. He managed the Gamewell Motel, now the Restwell Motel, for seven years and was active for many years in the mining business. He spent 17 years in Phoenix in the bakery department of Safeway Stores. Surviving are the widow, Martha; one son, Bill, who is in the Air Force and stationed at Sacramento; one brother, Leslie of Sunland, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille STORNS of Wickenburg and Mrs. Frances MARTIN of Los Angeles; and three grandchildren.

GEROLD HOSKINS Burial Will Be In Native Iowa
Following funeral services here Tuesday afternoon, the body of GEROLD HOSKINS was sent to Keosauqua, Iowa, for burial. The services, held in the First Baptist Church, were conducted by William Griggs, president of the LDS Church, assisted by the Rev. Bill BARKER. Mr. Hoskins, who had been in ill health for several years, died of a heart condition in St. Joseph's Hospital, Phoenix, November 9, the same day he had been admitted to the hospital for a checkup and just a few hours before his 45th birthday. He was born near Keosauqua November 10, 1911, and had been a Wickenburg resident since 1947. He and a brother, Alfred Leonard, conducted the Hoskins Bros. Construction Co. here until recent years. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Helen HOSKINS; three sons, Jerry 19, Dale 17 and Harvey 2½; one daughter, Nola 9; the parents, Mr. & Mrs. Alva HOSKINS of Keosauqua; and two brothers, Alfred Leonard of Unionville, Missouri, and Willard of Keosauqua. Son Jerry, who entered the Air Force October 31, arrived Sunday evening from Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Mrs. Hoskins, Harvey and Nola accompanied the body back to Iowa.

Friends Learn Of Death In December Of Mrs. Keys Father
Friends here have learned of the death' of WILLIAM HOTCHKISS, father of Mrs. Maurine KEYS, which occurred December 22 in Lander, Wyoming. Mr. Hotchkiss was born June 27, 1865, in Newton, Lana Pleshire, Scotland, and came to the U. S. in 1885. He moved to Wyoming in 1889 where he was engaged in mining for many years. Mr. Hotchkiss had visited his daughter several times when she was a resident of Wickenburg.

Rites Held For SAMUEL HOWARD
Samuel Howard, Wickenburg resident for 10 years until he moved to Phoenix last December, died in Phoenix August 27. Service and burial in the Glenhaven Cemetery there were on August 31. Mr. Howard, who was 80 years and 5 months old, was the father of Mrs. Herbert JOHNSON of Wickenburg. Also surviving are the widow, Mrs. Loutie HOWARD; three sons, Ralph and Hershel of Marysville, Calif., both formerly of Wickenburg; and two other daughters, Mrs. E. P. BACHMAN of Phoenix, a former resident here; and Mrs. Ray FOX of Harrisonberg Virginia. Mr. Howard was born in Sedalia, Missouri. While here, he and Mrs. Howard resided in the small house just behind the post office. He operated the popcorn stand in the Greyhound Bus station for a number of years.

Rites Held Here For GUS HOFFMAN
Funeral services were held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning, January 3, at the Wickenburg Chapel for August H. (Gus) HOFFMAN, former well known resident of Wickenburg who passed away December 29 in Butte, Montana following a heart attack. He was 72 years of age. Mrs. Lottie CROZIER conducted the services and burial took place in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Hoffman lived in Wickenburg for several years before moving to Butte in 1950. While a resident here he was active in the Round-Up Club. He owned property in this town. At the time of his death he was associated with Hennesy's Department Store in Butte, in the appliance department. Surviving are the widow, Nell, a son, Jack HOFFMAN of Butte and a step-son, Allen B. CONNER of La Mesa, Calif. A sister and brother-in-law are Mr. & Mrs. Bert HEADLEY of Wickenburg. Several grandchildren also survive.

DELBERT C. "DEL" HOLOWELL, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away June 8, 2005. He was born March 19, 1932 in Plumville, (Indian County), Pa. He was employed by the City of Oil City, Pa., moving to Akron, Ohio, in 1968 where he worked for Mohawk Rubber, Burger Iron, and Monarch Teledyne, and then moving to Arizona where he retired from VAW Aluminum in March of 1994. Del loved his motorcycles and horses, which made Arizona the perfect place for retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Isabelle, LaRue, and Clara; half-sisters Esther and Millie; and half-brother Jack. He is survived by his wife Patricia, sister and brother-in-law Betty and Bob Dickerson; brothers and sisters-in-law Roy and Shirley Holowell and Ernie and Melinda Holowell; daughter and son-in-law Sue and Tom Taormina; son and fiancée Tom Holowell and Henrietta; step-sons and wives Mike and Ann, Dan and Linda, and Steve and Carol Lough; grandchildren Pam (Todd) Testa, Heather (Brian) Nehlsen, Jill Taormina, Tommy (Jaime) Holowell, Krista, Kelly, Katy, Drew, Ryan and Cody Lough; great-grandchildren Anthony and Dominic Testa, Madeline Taormina, Angela Finch, Haley and Hunter Nehlsen, and Riley Holowell. PATSY C. HOOPER-MORRIS entered into rest April 28 at her home in Yarnell, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents Claude and Alma Hooper, her brothers Papa Chick and Bobby Hooper, sister Sue Pirtel, and her nephew Jimmy Lee Hooper. Patsy is survived by her six children, Claudia, Markham, Sherry, Donny, Ronny and Brenda Morris, they were her greatest achievement; her sixteen grandchildren, who were her sunshine; her twelve great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Patsy was a strong and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her. She is the core of her family.

Mr Horrigan, a native of New Jersey, came to Wickenburg 25 years ago from Ajo. He was never married and left no relatives in this area. He was a retired man.

GEROLD HOSKINS Burial Will Be In Native Iowa
Following funeral services here Tuesday afternoon, the body of GEROLD HOSKINS was sent to Keosauqua, Iowa, for burial. The services, held in the First Baptist Church, were conducted by William Griggs, president of the LDS Church, assisted by the Rev. Bill BARKER. Mr. Hoskins, who had been in ill health for several years, died of a heart condition in St. Joseph's Hospital, Phoenix, November 9, the same day he had been admitted to the hospital for a checkup and just a few hours before his 45th birthday. He was born near Keosauqua November 10, 1911, and had been a Wickenburg resident since 1947. He and a brother, Alfred Leonard, conducted the Hoskins Bros. Construction Co. here until recent years. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Helen HOSKINS; three sons, Jerry 19, Dale 17 and Harvey 2½; one daughter, Nola 9; the parents, Mr. & Mrs. Alva HOSKINS of Keosauqua; and two brothers, Alfred Leonard of Unionville, Missouri, and Willard of Keosauqua. Son Jerry, who entered the Air Force October 31, arrived Sunday evening from Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Mrs. Hoskins, Harvey and Nola accompanied the body back to Iowa.

Friends Learn Of Death In December Of Mrs. Keys Father
Friends here have learned of the death' of William HOTCHKISS, father of Mrs. Maurine KEYS, which occurred December 22 in Lander, Wyoming. Mr. Hotchkiss was born June 27, 1865, in Newton, Lana Pleshire, Scotland, and came to the U. S. in 1885. He moved to Wyoming in 1889 where he was engaged in mining for many years. Mr. Hotchkiss had visited his daughter several times when she was a resident of Wickenburg.

JOHN SHELDON HOVIS, 100, of Tombstone, Ariz., passed away at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Sierra Vista, Ariz., on Sept. 16. Sheldon, as he preferred to be called, was born Mar 31, 1908, in Oil City, Pa., to the late Maude Amanda Hovis and Richard Burton Hovis. Sheldon’s life, spanning a century, was a remarkable journey. He lived from the days of horse-drawn vehicles to see space exploration and the computer age. Sheldon grew up in El Dorado, Kan., and as a young man followed in his father’s footsteps working in the refineries throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and the Midwest. Sheldon’s first trip to Arizona was in the late 1920s to visit a cousin who was ranching near Wickenburg. Although returning to Texas to work, Sheldon visited Arizona several more times and eventually decided Arizona was the place he wanted to be. In 1935, Sheldon, his young wife Ella and baby son John settled west of Wickenburg and started their own cattle ranch. Early ranching days began in a tent with a dirt floor and cooking over an open fire. Sheldon and his family lived on the ranch for 30 years. In the mid 1960s, Sheldon sold a portion of the ranch and relocated to Tonopah, Ariz., where he continued to run cattle on his lower allotment and began another fulltime career of well drilling. During the late 70s, Sheldon began to spend his summers in Tombstone. In 1987, he decided it was time to give up well drilling, sold the remaining ranch land, and permanently relocated to Tombstone
Sheldon was a man who, throughout his life, was always on his way to do something. In 1989, although legally blind for a number of years, Sheldon typed “An Arizona Cowboy’s Memoir,” beginning with his earliest memories and moving forward to the present time. His thirst for knowledge and interest in world events remained to the end. He was always active and enjoyed the social life and entertainment in Tombstone. Sheldon will lovingly be remembered as a true pioneer of our time. Sheldon was preceded in death by his parents, his son John Sheldon Hovis Jr., and three sisters (Anna Page of San Francisco, Calif.; Alberta Bowman of Stafford, Kan.; and Mary Bills of Wichita, Kan.). He is survived by his daughter Sandra L. Daniel and son-in-law Kenneth R. Parker, of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; granddaughter Stephanie A. Daniel of Plano, Texas; niece Darlene Knoche of Ceresco, Neb.; niece Marilyn Miller of Juneau, Alaska; great nieces and nephews of Nebraska, Alaska, and Wisconsin; niece and nephews by marriage RomelleCostanzi, James McGuffin, and Pete McGuffin, all of Wickenburg; and many who called him a “friend.” Words written by an unknown author best describe Sheldon: “Some people come into our lives and quietly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never the same.” Sheldon has left lasting footprints on each of our hearts, through his memories, his love and his “love for life.” Rest in peace, our precious Pop, Grandpa, Uncle and Friend. The family wishes to thank the staff of Valor Hospice Care and Dr. Mayberry and staff for their dedication and the heartfelt kindness extended to our loved one. Services will be held at the Wickenburg Funeral Home, Wednesday (Sept. 24) at 11 a.m. Sheldon’s final resting place will be in a family plot in Wickenburg Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home.

Rites Held For SAMUEL HOWARD
Samuel Howard, Wickenburg resident for 10 years until he moved to Phoenix last December, died in Phoenix August 27. Service and burial in the Glenhaven Cemetery there were on August 31. Mr. Howard, who was 80 years and 5 months old, was the father of Mrs. Herbert JOHNSON of Wickenburg. Also surviving are the widow, Mrs. Loutie HOWARD; three sons, Ralph and Hershel of Marysville, Calif., both formerly of Wickenburg; and two other daughters, Mrs. E. P. BACHMAN of Phoenix, a former resident here; and Mrs. Ray FOX of Harrisonberg Virginia. Mr. Howard was born in Sedalia, Missouri. While here, he and Mrs. Howard resided in the small house just behind the post office. He operated the popcorn stand in the Greyhound Bus station for a number of years.

ED HUBER, former resident of Wickenburg, died suddenly of a heart attack in San Francisco last week, according to word received by friends here. Funeral services were held in that city on Wednesday of last week. Mr. Huber was a truck driver and while here resided with his family on South Mesquite Street.

ANDREW JOHN HUBMAN passed away May 5, 2001, at his daughter’s home in Roosevelt, Utah. He was 87. He was born Oct. 21, 1913 in Rootstown, Ohio, to Andrew Rothermel and Mary Smith. He married Louise Morse on Oct. 22, 1949 in Robbinsdale, Minn. He is survived by his wife Louise Hubman of Wickenburg; daughters Marilee Hinds of Phoenix, Cheri (Jerry) Shymkiw of Bullhead City, Holly Hubman of Phoenix, Theresa (Clayton) Chidestar of Roosevelt; adopted daughter Jane Johnson of Phoenix; 10 grandchildren and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday (Oct 20) at St. Anthony’s of Padua Catholic Church in Wickenburg, with father John Vogt officiating. A luncheon will follow in the hall.

ANNELLE STANLIS HUDSON, a former Wickenburg resident and a native of the community, died Jan. 24 at her home in San Diego. She was 42. Ms. HUDSON was born Aug. 17, 1958 in Wickenburg. She lived here until age 14, before moving to California. Her father, Frank STANLIS, was town attorney in Wickenburg for many years and practiced law in the community until his death in 1973. Her mother, Irene, worked for Wickenburg Community Hospital until moving to California in 1977. She died in 1997. Survivors include her life's companion, Jon HENSON; sister Susan ARRIOLA; niece and nephew Rebecca and Jon ARRIOLA; brother Craig STANLIS; nephews Jeff and Michael STANLIS; and stepsister Heather YERXA. Services have been held.

EILEEN HUGHES, loving wife, devoted mother and cherished sister, passed away peacefully on Nov.15 after a short illness. Born in the township of Edwards, Kan., on March 31, 1927, Eileen Jordan grew up in Garden City, Kansas, and married Arthur L. HUGHES, a lieutenant in the Army Air Force and bomber pilot, in 1945. Over the next 30 years, Eileen lived throughout the United States, in Alaska and overseas, raised two children, and moved with her husband to Southern California after his retirement from the Air Force. She later moved with Art to Wickenburg, Ariz., living there more than 15 years, and then retired to Colorado Springs, Colo. Known for her love of bridge, Eileen always was ready to host a get-together for cards or fun. She loved roses as well as flowers of all kinds, kept a sharp eye out for hummingbirds and butterflies, and pampered her cats Frank and Lucy. She will be greatly missed by her family. She is survived by her husband Art in Colorado Springs, children Lee WALKER in Colorado Springs and Jim HUGHES in Los Angeles, sisters Barbara MILLER in Colorado Springs, Ellen Gilliam in Pasadena, Calif., and Bonnie HASSALL in Wickenburg, and three grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Robert JORDAN and sister Betty MARTZ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to organizations that celebrate pets and provide care to animals.

Rites Saturday For SGT. HUNTER
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church here for Sgt. JAMES R. HUNTER, 22-year-old son of Mr. & Mrs. R. E. BILLINGSLEY of Wickenburg, who was killed in a one-car accident 1½ miles south of Bagdad shortly after midnight Wednesday. Sgt. Hunter was thrown from the car. The other occupants were not critically injured. A graduate of Bagdad High School in 1953, Sgt. Hunter was home on 30-day leave after completing a 3-year enlistment in the Army Chemical Corps. He had just re-enlisted and was stationed in Maryland. Other survivors, besides his parents, include three aunts, Mrs. H. E. GAUNT, Mrs. Hal WARNER and Mrs. Henry SHELTON, all of Wickenburg.

LILLIAN HURT of Kingman was 89. Mrs. Hurt was born Sept. 17, 1906 in Chicago, Ill. She had lived in Arizona for 5 years, coming here from Illinois. Mrs. Hurt was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 111 in Wickenburg. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her daughter and son-in.law Barbara and Charles Halbert of Kingman; son and daughter-in-law James F. and Mary E. HURT of Williams; brothers Joseph NOVAK of West Marko Island, Fla.; and Jerry NOVAK of West Chester, Ill.; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 1964. Graveside services and interment will be held Friday, Jan 12 at noon in the Wickenburg Cemetery. The Rev. Paul DANIEL will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Hurt's name to a charity of one’s choice. Local arrangements were handled by Brown's Wickenburg Funeral Home.

MRS. LOUISE HUSSEN LAID TO REST HERE
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, October 16 at Wickenburg chapel for MRS. LOUISE HUSSEN, 62, who passed away October 13 in Bagdad where she had made her home for the past several months. Born in Luma, County, N.M., in 1885, Mrs. HUSSEN came to Arizona 45 years ago and has been, until recently, a resident of Wickenburg since 1917. She had been in ill health for the past month and death came as a result of a heart attack. Mrs. Hussen was preceded in death by her husband, Edward John Hussen. Surviving are five children: Mrs. Harry CLARKSON and Richard HUSSEN, Bagdad; Mrs. Joseph L. WHITE, Los Angeles; John HUSSEN, Blythe and Robert HUSSEN, Flagstaff. Sisters, Mrs. G. E. ROUNTREE of Las Cruces, N. M. also survive.

Memorial and celebration of the life of beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother MARY M. HUSSEN, 88, was held Monday (May 23) at the New Song United Methodist Church in Surprise. Mary was born in Hymera, Ind., in 1917. She came to Arizona in 1929 to the Glendale area. Her family moved to the Wickenburg area in 1931 to open a business. There, she met her husband John Hussen, whom she married in 1933. They lived through the years of 1933-1957 in Hillside, Prescott, Wickenburg, Phoenix and Blythe, Calif. In 1957, they moved to Parker, Ariz., where they leased the Sav 5 gas station for six years. They also owned the Kofa Mobile Home Park for a number of years. During this time, she worked for the First National Bank for one year. She then went to work for the Town of Parker in the billing department. She became the town clerk and maintained that position for 15 years until her retirement. She achieved her certification as a Certified Municipal Clerk. One of her first major projects for the town was the construction of the Terminal building at the airport in 1966. In addition to her duties as town clerk, she was active in the community and the Chamber of Commerce. She and her husband John served as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron in Moovalya Chapter 42 O.E.S in 1967. Upon her retirement in 1981, she and John moved to Peoria, Ariz. They were married for 48 years before his death. She is survived by her daughter Dorothy (Dale); son Robert (Linda); grandchildren Denise (John), Douglas (Bernice), Brenda (Dave), John (Diane), and Marla; and great-grandchildren Jamie, Lisa, Ashley, Jessica, Derek, Rebecca, Stephanie, Victoria, Keri, Justin, and Robert. Burial took place in the Wickenburg Cemetery at the family plot. In of lieu of flowers, donations to the Peoria Senior Center will be accepted.

Rites held for MRS. GLEN HUTZEL
Funeral services for Mrs. GLEN HUTZEL were held in the Wickenburg Chapel Saturday morning of last week with the Rev. James WILSON, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was in the Wickenburg Cemetery with members of the Rebekah Lodge conducting graveside rites. Mrs. HUTZEL died suddenly of a heart attack in her home at 136 North Jefferson Street at 8:15 p.m. April 10. Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Jane SCOTT of the Panama Canal Zone; one son Kenneth Wayne HUTZEL of Allerton, Iowa; four grandsons and one granddaughter, and two sisters, Mrs. Maude MATLOCK of Clarktown, Washington, and Mrs. Bess JONES of Iowa Falls, Iowa.

On Feb. 28, RUTH HUTZEL of Wickenburg passed on to be with the Lord. She was born June 11, 1914 in Decatur, Ill. She married George K. HUTZEL in 1943 and they made their home in Michigan until 1977 when they moved to Wickenburg to be closer to their daughter. George preceded her in death in 1999. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Sue and Richard Tackelson of Wickenburg, daughter Mary and the late Al Beltzman of Michigan; granddaughters and husbands Karen and Gary Brewer, Heather and Doug Stark, Jennifer and Mike Guedesse; great-granddaughters Andrea and Charlotte Guedesse of wickenburg; sister Laura Fisher; brother David Stoddart of California; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 450 Rose Lane on Saturday, March 18 at 10:30 a.m. with a luncheon to follow. Pastor Greg G. Werdin will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Affinity Hospice of Life- Scottsdale, 2501 West Dunlap, Phoenix, AZ 85202 Arrangements directed by Wickenburg Funeral Home.
