HUBERT NEIL "BERT" LASSOND of Wittmann died Sept. 7 in Peoria. He was 68. Mr. Lassond was born Aug. 7, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio. He had lived in Arizona for the past 40 years, coming from Ohio. Bert and his wife Lois moved to Arizona from Ohio in 1956. They lived in Tucson for 10 years and Phoenix for 18 years before moving to the small town of Wittmann. He began work as a steel worker in Ohio and was later employed in various positions in the trucking industry. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years, and he loved his birds. Mr. Lassond also greatly enjoyed bagpipe and classical music. Bert and Lois helped many people in need over the years and always fought for the underdog. He gave people chances that others never would have. Mr. Lassond had a very large heart for those around him, and his friends were lifetime friends. Bert will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Lois of Wittmann; daughters and sons-in-law Diane Elaine and Donald LANG, and Deborah Alta and Ambrose STONE, all of Phoenix; daughters Danette Renee LASSOND of Mesa and Donna Marie LASSOND of Phoenix; sister Elizabeth DULL of Lodi, Ohio; brother Bernard LASSOND of Wooster, Ohio; grandchildren Athena Rene, James H.C. and Donovan A.N. LANG, and Justin Neil LASSOND; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Denise Florence COLVIN, son Shawn O'Neil LASSOND, and parents Hubert John and Florence G. (WORSLEY) LASSOND.
Services were held Thursday, Sept. 12 at l0 a.m. at Frey Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Bishop Max COLGROVE officiated, and the head speaker was Kevin SHUMWAY. ILA MAMIE LaMAR of Morristown, died June 22 in the Extended Care Unit at Wickenburg Regional Medical Center. She was 109 years old. Mrs. LaMar was born Sept. 8, 1891 in Safforville, Kansas. She moved to Arizona in 1916, and had lived in Morristown for almost 80 years, residing there since 1923. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Horald LaMar, in 1968, and a daughter, Dorothy Tipton, in 1994. Survivors include six children, Ena McGuire and husband Erwin of Morristown, Clyde LaMar and Ruby of Heber, Howard Deloss LaMar of Congress, Ila Mae Sutherlin and husband John of Glendale, Dwight LaMar and wife Marie of Winslow, and Beverlee LaMar of Phoenix; 14 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted June 26, with burial at the Morristown Cemetery family plot. Memorial contributions can be made to Hassayampa O.E.S. Chapter No. 35, of which she was a longtime member.

LEONE LaMONT, age 77, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully Dec. 7 with her devoted family at her side. Lee, a 23-year resident of Wickenburg, was born in Branford, Ontario; raised in Michigan, where she met and married Sonny, her loving husband of 60 years. She is survived by her husband Sonny LaMONT of Sun City, daughters Laura LaMont of Wickenburg, Linda Jones and son-in-law James JONES of Mesa, grandchildren Jeffrey Jones, Michelle WEBSTER, and great-grandson Lorence Webster. BETTY IRENE LANCASTER, longtime Cortez resident, was born Nov. 10, 1930 in Quail, Texas, to Ruby and Claude Daves. She passed away at Baptist Village in Surprise, Ariz., on Dec. 1 at the age of 78. Betty shared 54 happy years with her husband Jess Lancaster. She worked alongside him at their warehouse business in Pleasant View for many years and later became a licensed Realtor in both Colorado and Arizona. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Emblem Club, and Cortez Chamber of Commerce. She took great pride in her family, working endless hours to make sure pants were creased and shoes were clean. Her home was always open to family, especially her many nieces, nephews and her grandchildren, none of whom ever went away hungry. She and Jess retired to Wickenburg, Ariz., in 1999. While at a family reunion in Colorado, Betty contracted West Nile virus in Sept. of 2004, from which she never fully recovered. She was a wonderful wife, mother and friend and will be greatly missed. Surviving Betty are her husband Jess Lancaster of Wickenburg, Ariz.; daughter Brenda Gamblin of Council Bluffs, Iowa; son Sam and wife Ronda of Pleasant View; son Doug and wife Norma of Yuma, Ariz.; and daughter Natalie Sundermeier and husband Tony of Scottsdale, Ariz. In addition, she leaves behind seven grandchildren - Danielle Cisney of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Marcus Cisney of Phoenix, Ariz.; Brandan Lancaster and wife Kelcey of Durango; Lindsay Cressler and husband Dakota of Aztec, N.M.; Taylor and Nate Sundermeier of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and five great-grandchildren - Deana and Derek Lancaster, and Walker, Chorbin, and Gaige Cressler. Surviving siblings include her sisters Doris Walters of Grand Junction and Melva Smith of Dolores; and her brothers Dick and Dean Daves of Cortez, and Don Daves of Clovis, N.M. She was preceded in death by her parents Claude and Ruby Daves, granddaughter Sarah Melissa Lancaster, and grandsons Justin Cody Lancaster and Derek Sam Lancaster. Services are under the direction of Ertel Funeral Home and were held at 1 p.m. on Monday (Dec. 8) at the Cortez United Methodist Church, with interment at Cortez Cemetery. RICHARD ‘DICK’ CLYDE LANE of Yarnell, died March 15 at the Ft. Whipple VA Hospital in Prescott. He was 68. Mr. Lane was born Dec. 4, 1932 at California. He was a retired Teamster, working as a trucker and then a dispatcher. He was a U. S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Dolores Lane of Yarnell; sons Donald Roy Briggs of Salt Lake City, David Edwin Briggs of Eagle Point, Ore., and Mark Lane of Washington; brother Jim Lane of Vancouver, Wash.; a sister Sharon Stone of Oviedo, Fla.; and seven grandchildren. PAUL LASSWELL Funeral Friday
Funeral services for PAUL LASSWELL, Jr., will be held this morning (Friday) in the Wickenburg Chapel with Elks Club No. 335 of Phoenix and the local post of the American Legion officiating. Burial will follow In the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Lasswell died in Community Hospital early Tuesday morning.
Mr. LASSWELL was born in Vincennes, Ind., in 1917. Both his mother, Mrs. Gayle PETERSON, and his late father, Paul (Pops) Lasswell, Sr., were in the theatrical business and with their training Paul could pick out tunes on the piano when he was 18 months old. At the age of 5 he made his first stage appearance playing drums and piano and singing and dancing at the Pantheon Theater in Vincennes where Red Skelton was then assistant manager.
Sang With Met
In Denver, where the family moved, Paul studied music from the father of Paul WHITEMAN. Then in 1937 he went to New York City where he joined the Metropolitan Opera Co., making his debut in "Cavalieri a Rusticana" with Charles KULLMAN.
After the Metropolitan season ended he went to Central City, Colorado, where he appeared in the opera festival with Gladys SWARTHOUT and Richard BONELLI. He remained there for four seasons, spending the winters as manager of a chain of Fox theaters.
Sold War Bonds
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941 and toured the country with Ginger Rogers and Pat O'Brien selling war bonds and entertaining troops. He was credited with the sale of $2,000,000 in war bonds.
The family moved to Wickenburg in 1945 when his parents began the operation of The Antlers on Tegner Street.
Surviving are the mother; Leo Peterson, his stepfather; and a grandmother, Mrs. Maude LANDREY of Vincennes, Ind.

Members of the Elks Lodge No. 335, Phoenix, conducted funeral services at Wickenburg Chapel at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon for PAUL B. (POP) LASSWELL, SR., who passed away at 1 o'clock Tuesday morning in Community Hospital. Burial followed in the Wickenburg Cemetery.
BORN IN INDIANA
Mr Lasswell was born in Monroe City, Ind., July 20, 1893, the son of a Presbyterian minister. It was because of his health that he moved to Arizona, living first in Phoenix for three years and coming to Wickenburg in 1945 with his wife Gayle whom he married in Muncie, Ind., in 1915, and his son who at that time was serving in the Army. He leased The Antlers on Tegner Street in 1948.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs Gayle Lasswell, and son, Paul Lasswell, Jr., both of Wickenburg, and one brother, Harold Lasswell, a teacher of science in the University of Chicago.

Mrs. Bob Olson's Mother Summoned
Funeral services were held in the Grimshaw Mortuary, Phoenix, July 18, for Mrs. DOROTHY LATHAM
of that city. Mrs. Latham was the mother of Mrs. Robert OLSON of Vista, California, who lived in Wickenburg for many years while Mr. Olson taught in the Wickenburg High School. Mrs. Latham died July 15 in St. Joseph's Hospital, Phoenix. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial

Born in Minnesota, Mrs Latham came to Arizona in 1920 living first in Tucson and then in
Phoenix. She visited in Wickenburg often when the Olsons lived here. In addition to Mrs.
Olson, she is survived by, another daughter, Mrs. K. M. WATROUS of Seattle; her mother, Mrs.
Marian COLLINS of Phoenix; and seven grandchildren.

Congress Rites For MRS. LAUBE
Funeral services for MRS. BEATRICE LAUBE, 61 year-old resident of Congress, were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday in the Good Shepherd of the Desert Chapel in Congress with the Rev. James Wilson, Presbyterian minister of Wickenburg, officiating. Burial followed in the Congress Cemetery with members of the Eastern Star conducting graveside rites.
Mrs. Laube died Friday of last week in a Prescott hospital.
Mrs. Laube was born in Ohio and had lived at Congress for the past 8 years.
Surviving are the husband, Arthur LAUBE of Congress; one son, Halstead LAUBE of Glenbrook, Connecticut; three sisters; one brother and five grandchildren all out of state.

Worker Killed By 38-Ton Bulldozer
Details of the tragic accident which claimed the life of a man working on the Highway 93
construction job 12 miles northwest of Congress a week ago Wednesday, were revealed this week by Highway Patrolman Bill HANGER, who assisted in the investigation.
The dead man, V. CHARLES LAWRENCE, age 46, of Glendale, was eating his lunch in the shade of a 30-ton piece of earth moving equipment when it was accidentally backed up, crushing him to death. According to Patrolman HANGER, Johnnie IBEN, head of the Johnnie IBEN
Construction Co. of Phoenix, which has the road job, was at the controls of the machine when the accident occurred. He was overcome by grief and nervousness and was taken to Prescott for treatment. Mr. LAWRENCE had been his employee 13 years and they were close friends.
Mr. Iben was driving a road blade when he came upon the 30-ton bulldozer, in which the diesel motor had been left running, the patrolman said. Desiring to move the latter machine so he could get by, and having observed what he thought was the entire crew of workers eating their lunch alongside the construction job, Mr Iben stopped his blade and climbed into the bulldozer to back it up. It never occurred to him that Lawrence was not eating his lunch with the other workers.
A coroner's inquest, called by Justice of the Peace Jerold KOLAR of Yarnell, ruled that the death was accidental. Funeral services for Mr. LAWRENCE were held Monday in Glendale. He is survived by his widow and six sons.

LORRAINE SMITH LAYMAN, 93, of Hendersonville, N.C., died Wednesday, June 23, 2004. A native of Sterling, Mich., she was a daughter of the late John and Sophia Smith and was a former resident of Brevard, N.C., Wickenburg, Ariz., Flushing, Mich., and had lived in Hendersonville for the last six years. She was the wife of the late Oscar Layman, who died in 1987. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Elgin and Leigh Smith. Mrs. Layman retired from Buick Engineering in 1969 and was a lifelong member of the Episcopal faith. She was a member of the Girls Friendly Society and while residing in Southern Pines, was a member of the Sandhills Children's Center and the Emanuel Episcopal Church Thrift Shop. Survivors include her daughters, Mary Layman of Lincoln, Calif., Sarah Thomas of San Francisco, Calif., and Joan McLean and her husband, Larry, of Weaverville, Calif.; a sister, Arlene Teutsch of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and two grandchildren, Patrick McLean and Elizabeth Brick. A memorial service will be held in Hendersonville. Burial will be in Flushing, Mich., at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or to a Hospice Children's Program.

Mr Lee, who had lived here for a number of years, is said to have a brother living in England and a sister in South Africa.

Mrs. Leisering was born April 20, 1901 in LaMar, Mo. She had lived in Arizona for the past 53 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Cletus Barnes of Circle City; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 at Frey Funeral Home. Pastor Gary Golike will officiate.
Interment that follows will be private, attended only by family members, at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery.

FRED L. LEISERING of Wickenburg. died Feb. 12 in Wickenburg. He was 85.
Mr. Leisering was born Oct. 9. 1911 in Organ. NM. He lived most of his life in Arizona - 77 years - in Wickenburg, coming to the state by train from New Mexico at age 8 to Hillside, and then on to Peeples Valley by wagon. He rode burros to and from school.
Mr. Leisering's first job was with the Hays Cattle Co., and in later years he worked for numerous mines throughout Arizona. He retired in 1974 from the San Manuel Mine and was a member of the United Mine Workers.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Katherine Leisering. of Wickenburg; daughter Cletus Barnes of Circle City; sister Babe Rubash of Wickenburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Feb, 17 at Calvary Baptist Church in Wickenburg. Pastor Gary Golike officiated.
Burial followed in the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery.

ALFRED LEWIS, 74, Died Here Tuesday
Alfred Lewis, 74-year-old retired Illinois miner who has lived in Wickenburg for the past
two years, died in Community Hospital at 2:35 a.m. Tuesday. He had been a patient in the
hospital since July 4.
Prior to coming to Wickenburg, Mr. Lewis lived in Mesa for two years. He was a native
of Springfield, Ill., where he was a coal miner and had belonged to the miner's union for
over 50 years. He resided here in the Carroll Apartments next door to the hospital.
Survivors include a sister in Denver, a sister in Indiana, and a brother in Springfield, Ill.
A niece was scheduled to arrive here Thursday from Springfield to return the body to that
city for burial.

MARGARET LEWIS was born April 4, 1919 and passed away Oct. 3, 2008.
Margaret moved to Wickenburg in 1970 with her husband Bill LEWIS, who died Jan. 1, 1974, and son Billy Lewis who now resides at Rainbow Acres in Camp Verde, Ariz.
Margaret was an air traffic controller in World War II and Women’s Army Air Corps (WAC) as a sergeant. She was the founder of the Lake Charles, Louisiana, Retarded Children’s Association and brought special education into the local school systems there.
She was a dedicated wife, mother, volunteer, youth leader, and active in churches in various roles. Her last membership was at Calvary Baptist Church in Wickenburg.
In her declining years, she was content and at peace in her residence at The Court in Sun City West. Her past residence was at Palm Drive Court and My Father’s Retirement Ranch.
She is survived by her sons Billy Lewis of Camp Verde, Ariz.; Dr. Ron LEWIS (Barbara) of Augusta, Georgia; and Robert LEWIS (Helen) of Sykesville, Maryland; and her daughter Katie (Woody) Neal of Columbia, Missouri. Her grandchildren are Kim, Randy, Michael, Stephanie, and Caleb.
Services were held on Monday, Oct. 6 at Wickenburg Cemetery.

‘ANDY’ LIERSCH FINAL RITES WERE HELD HERE MONDAY
Final rites for ANDREW J. LIERSCH were held at St. Anthony’s Church at 8 o’clock last Monday morning conducted by the Rev. D. F. O’SULLIVAN. Burial followed in the Wickenburg cemetery. A rosary for the deceased was held t 8 p.m. Sunday at the Wickenburg chapel.
Mr. Liersch a genial friendly resident of Wickenburg for the past six years, was killed instantly shortly after noon last Thursday when the pick-up truck which he was driving was involved in an accident near the weighing station on the Phoenix highway. According to the report of Highway patrolman Harold MOORE, an automobile driven by a a 17-year-old California youth tried to pass Mr. Liersch while both vehicles were headed east. The California car struck Mr. Liersch’s pick-up in the left rear, causing both vehicles to lock together and go into a broadside skid. As the car left the pavement, Mr. Leirsch was thrown out. He died from a crush chest and broken back.
Born in Milwaukee
Mr. Liersch was born May 18, 1896, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and lived there until moving to Wickenburg. He was a talented musician and had his own orchestra while living in Wisconsin. He played occasionally in the local orchestras here.
He built the Sky Ranch apartments on the Phoenix highway just east of town. He was a member of the Civilian Defense Reserve Police, of the “Gold Shirt Gang” of the Round-Up Club and was a director of the Wickenburg Saddle Club.
Survivors
Surviving are his wife and one son, Andrew LIERSCH, Jr., now in the army and stationed at Fort Ord, Calif. The latter was granted a 10-day emergency leave to come here for his father’s funeral services. Also surviving are two brothers, Dick and Edward LIERSCH, both of Milwaukee.

LORENZO D. LISTER, 86, died at 10:15 p. m. Wednesday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harold GAZA. Funeral services had not been announced when the Sun went to press.
Mr. Lister was born in Lebanon, Indiana, and was a farmer until he came to Wickenburg 15 years ago. His wife died in 1951.

WALTON L. LLOYD of Wickenburg, died Dec. 14, 2001. He was 76.
Mr. Lloyd was born May 13, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was a retired supervisor of a glass company, and a member of Jehovah's Witness since 1974.
Survivors include his wife, Ofelia; five daughters, three sons, four stepdaughters and two stepsons; two half sisters and two half brothers; 29 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 at Wickenburg Kingdom Hall.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of the Valley and Hospice of Yavapai County.

MRS. EFFIE LOE Rites Tuesday
Mrs. EFFIE BELL LOE, 85, mother of Mrs. F. S. Argali of 178 Swilling Street, Wickenburg, died in Phoenix Saturday. Born in Texas, she had been a Phoenix resident for 42 years. Surviving are five sons and six daughters. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Arizona Funeral Home, Phoenix, with the Rev. Russell Palmer officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Memorial Park.

CHIEF LOGAN Found Dead In His Home
CHIEF LOGAN, 65-year-old Oneida Indian, was found died in his home 3 miles south of Morristown, at 7 a. m. Saturday of last week by Sgt. Dave CARTER of the sheriff’s department.
According to Carter, Carl HOLM, a neighbor of Logan’s had brought Logan into Wickenburg the evening before to see a doctor after he had complained of being ill. The next morning Holm went to the Logan home to check on his neighbor and found the doors locked. When there was no response to Holm’s knocking, he reported to Carter who went to the house and forced a door open. Carter says it appeared that Logan had been dead about 4 hours.
According to papers found in the home by Carter, Logan was raised on the Oneida Indian Reservation in New York State and homesteaded his property near Morristown more than 30 years ago. He was born in South Carolina in 1895.
He was a veteran of World War I.
Matthew RALPH and Victor RENFRO of Cleveland, Ohio, friends, were notified and came to make burial arrangements. Burial was in a small cemetery on the Logan homestead Tuesday evening.

Visiting Rotarian Died Sunday Night
U. L. LOGAN, a visiting Rotarian from Gila Bend, died in his sleep of a heart attack Sunday night at Rancho de Los Caballeros. Mr. LOGAN was attending the Rotary assembly for presidents and secretaries at Los Caballeros. His wife was with him at the time of his death. The body was taken to Phoenix early Monday morning.

STEVE LONCAR, MineOwner, Is Dead At 77
Funeral To Be Friday Morning For 50-Year Resident of Arizona
Death came early Wednesday morning at the Wickenburg Hospital to a well loved pioneer of this region, Steve Loncar, for the past 50 years a miner and prospector and who had accumulated in that half century many friends throughout all of Central Arizona. His death, at 77, was the result of the infirmities of old age. He had been ill several weeks but did not enter the hospital until July 19.
Mr. Loncar, a native of Yugoslavia, whose wide flowing mustaches frequently bristled, but only in excitement-never in anger was part owner of the George Washington Mine in the Black Rock district near Constellation. His associate in that undertaking was Dr. W. J. PANYMAN of El Paso, Texas.
STEVE LONCAR was an honorable man, a hard worker, a believer in justice and fair play and thoroughly devoted and loyal to the country of his adoption. When he is laid to rest Friday morning in the Wickenburg Cemetery, overlooking the hills which he knew and loved so well, following funeral services at the Wickenburg Chapel, it is expected many of his friends will gather to pay their last respect. The services will be at 9 o'clock. So far as is known, Mr. Loncar has no living relatives, either on this country or in Yugoslavia.

Mrs. KOELSCH Goes To Father's Rites
Mrs. Eddie KOELSCH left Tuesday by plane for Camargo, Illinois, to attend funeral services for her father, FLOYD LONG, who died there Sunday evening. Mr. Long had suffered a heart attack 10 days before his death. Date of the funeral was to be set after Mrs. Koelsch's arrival there.
Surviving, in addition to the Wickenburg daughter, are the widow; two other daughters,

CLARENCE LONG Rites Thursday
Funeral services for CLARENCE (SHORTY) LONG were scheduled to be held at 5:15 p. m. Thursday of this week in the Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Marvin ELLIOTT officiating. Burial was to be in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Wickenburg Chapel was scheduled to be open from 11 a. m. to 4:30 p. m. Thursday for friends who wished to call.
Mr. Long died at 8:30 a. m last Sunday at his home on the Rincon Road following a heart attack.
A retired painter, he was born January 2, 1898, in West Virginia. He served in the Army from Hawaii and upon discharge from the Army in 1928 came to Wickenburg. He and Charlotte BAKER were married in
Phoenix in 1928.
Surviving in addition to the widow, are six children: Laree DOTSON, Clarkdale; J. R. LONG, Flagstaff; Wilma TAYLOR, Scottsdale, Sarah COLEMAN, Norwalk, Calif.; Helen LONG, Wickenburg; and Bill LONG who is in the Air Force in South Carolina. Services Pending For HARRY LONG
HARRY LONG, a resident of the Wickenburg area for many years, died at his home on West
Center Street Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services were pending the arrival of out-of town relatives.
Mr. Long, who was born in Pennsylvania, was 66 years old last May 4. While he had been in
ill health for several years, his death was sudden and unexpected.

RAYMOND LONG, 14, SUMMONED AT HOME
Funeral services for RAYMOND LONG will probably be held at 11 o’clock Monday morning, the boy’s father said Thursday noon.
A shock to the community this week was the death, from an undetermined cause, of 12-year-old RAYMOND LEE LONG, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence LONG. The lad’s death occurred at the family home four miles up the river, at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday after an illness of 24 hours. He had appeared in excellent health until becoming ill Monday morning. When it became obvious that he was seriously ill Tuesday morning, the boy’s father went to the nearby Hal Park Ranch where he called Dr. J.E. ANDES. The boy was dead by the time the doctor reached the home. An autopsy was to be performed.
Raymond was born here January 3, 1937 and was one of seven children. He was a student in the sixth grade at Rincon School. Surviving, besides the parents, are four sisters, Mrs. Clara Laree DOTSON of Cottonwood; Mrs. Wilma Frances TAYLOR of Scottsdale; Sara Ellen, 10 and Helen Louise, 4. His oldest brother, Clarence, jr., is serving with the 19th Infantry in Japan while the other brother, William E. 14, is at home.
Funeral arrangements were pending as The SUN went to press, awaiting receipt of word from the brother in Japan. The body was taken to the Wickenburg Mortuary.

HAROLD BROWN LONGSTRETH, age 83, beloved husband and father, passed away May 31 from complication following lung cancer and COPD. Harold “Stretch” Longstreth was a longtime resident of Fairborn, Ohio. He was the only son of Clifford and Nellie Longstreth, pioneer residents of Osborn, later renamed Fairborn, Ohio. He was born on April 28, 1924. He graduated from Bath High School in 1942. He serviced in the Air Force during World War II, stationed in Austin, Texas. He was employed as a procurement analyst at Wright Patterson Air Force Base for 33 years. He was especially known for his love of music and his hobby of playing in dance bands during the Big Band era.
As a member of the Earl Holderman Dance Band, his saxophone and clarinet talents were enjoyed in the greater Dayton area. He also enjoyed tennis and was able to continue this hobby upon his retirement to Wickenburg, Ariz in 1978. He spent the last 15 years in Sun City West and Surprise, Ariz. He was a longtime member of Michael L. Finnell Masonic Lodge 711 of Fairborn, Ohio. He was a member of the Crown Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West. His family will always remember his unselfishness and caring of others; and will cherish the paintings he created for them. Stretch carried on the artistic tradition from his father, and the family thankfully has those painting to comfort them. Stretch is survived by his wife of 62 years Maurine, and his daughters Nancy and her husband Gray of Salt lake City, Utah, and Carol and her husband Tom of Alexandria, Va. A memorial service will be held at Chaparral Winds Retirement Community, date to be announced. A memorial service and burial will follow at a later date in Fairborn, Ohio.

MARION LOOK of Wickenburg, age 77, passed away on March 23. She was born in Toronto, Ontario, on Aug. 9, 1930.
Marion was a stay-at-home wife and mother dedicated to providing a loving and stable home for her family. She is survived by George, her husband of 45 years; daughter Lynda Leininger (Larry), and two sons Doug (Lois) and Scott (Wendy); five grandchildren Todd Guess, Nikki, Dani, Taylor, and Austin Look; and three great-grandchildren McKenna, Robert and Brandon Guess. Marion had a great love for animals and spent the past 27 years riding, showing and caring for her horses. A memorial service was held on Friday, April 4 at Hansen Desert Hills Chapel, 6500 E Bell Road in Scottsdale. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Humane Society of Wickenburg.

Rites Wednesday For GEORGE LORD
Funeral services were held at 11 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in Wickenburg Chapel for GEORGE W. LORD, 89-year-old resident of San Manuel, Arizona, who died in that town last Sunday morning. Burial was in Wickenburg Cemetery. Rev Bill BARKER officiated.
Mr. Lord was the father of Mrs. Fred LEISERING of San Manuel, formerly of Wenden and Wickenburg. Mr. LEISERING is the son of Mrs. W. M. LEISERING of Wickenburg. Mr. LORD, a native of Missouri, came to Arizona in 1951. His wife died here in that year and is buried in Wickenburg Cemetery.
In addition to Mrs. Leisering, Mr. Lord is survived by a son, James E. of Kansas City, Missouri,
and two grandchildren who are well known here: Mrs. Cletus BARNES of Morro Bay, California, and Mrs. Janet REICH of Denver.

MABEL L. LOUGEE of Aguila, died May 10 in Aguila She was 65. Mrs. Lougee was born March 3, 1931 in Kennewick. Wash. She had lived in Arizona for the past two years, coming from Montana. Mr. and Mrs. Lougee enjoyed dancing at the Moose Lodge, where they were former members. They also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, camping and fishing. Mrs. Lougee was an excellent cook, making wedding cakes for family and friends as well as working as a cook in a hospital. She enjoyed playing softball with her children, and reading to her grandchildren as well as teaching them to play card games. In her younger years, she was an artist and was quite accomplished both in painting and drawing.
Mrs. Lougee is survived by her husband of 45 years, Sam Lougee of Aguila; daughter J. Doll Lougee Fiester of Farmington, N.M.; son Ted Leland Lougee of Dahinda, Ill.; sister Deana HATLEY of Astoria, Ore.; brothers John MOORE and Roger LARISON, both of Astoria; grandchildren Melisa, Mark, Sam, Luke and Kendol FIESTER, Cody, Kimberly Md Becky LOUGEE; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Sharon Leek, Carolyn and Kay Yotter, Sheryl and Sara Moore, Bob Zuelich, Jerry and Jack Graf, John Moore Jr., Tom and Wayne Hatley, and Todd, Roger and Steve Yotter.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 17 at Frey Funeral Home.

ELSIE LOVENESS enjoyed her last beautiful Arizona sunrise on April 7 in her home she loved in Wickenburg, after losing a courageous battle with cancer. She was born into this world to Josephine and Herbert Hays on July 22, 1942 in Martinez, Calif., where she grew up, graduating from Alhambra High School.
She is loved by many of her childhood friends that she stayed close to through the years.
While attending Diablo Valley College, Elsie met her first husband Donald Micka. They moved to Malin, Ore., to join his family’s farm. They had two children together, Jodi and Joel. Elsie was a farm wife, homemaker, and mother. She was an accomplished artist and equestrian enthusiast when time allowed.
In 1981 Elsie married the love of her life Loren Loveness. They farmed together for several years before moving to Arizona. They built their home together in Wickenburg, creating a wonderful warm-weather retreat for their numerous friends old and new, sharing many good times and adventures. She enjoyed their vast travels and exploring the primitive and exotic lands of the western landscape on horseback.
A safe harbor to many, she was a treasure to her friends, like the wildflowers of the desert she loved.
Elsie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, best friend, source of strength and inspiration to all. Along with her many other charitable works, she was a hospice volunteer in Oregon and was rewarded in the end by her family, friends, Dr. Melde, Tina, and hospice.
Elsie is survived by her husband Loren, her daughter Jodi and husband Tim Finkenbinder and grandson Trent of Collinsville, Texas; her son and his wife Joel and Michele Micka and grandsons Cody and Jordan of Kennewick, Wash. She is also survived by stepson and wife Jared and Jennifer Loveness, step-grandchildren Cierrah and Colby of Mt. Vernon, Wash.; and “extra” son Troy Ingram of Malin, Ore.; her mother Josephine Heskett of Pittsburg, Calif.; her loving sister Jennifer Rawson of Tucson, Ariz.; brother Buzz Heskett of Brentwood, Calif.; sisters Judy Hays and Connie Hays of Salem, Ore., Janet Learned of Cloverdale, Ore.; uncle Carl Fank of Yuma, Ariz.; aunt Freda Keat of Martinez, Calif.; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Elsie was preceded in death by her father Herbert Hays and stepson Nathan Loveness.
Donations may be made to the Wickenburg Humane Society or a charity of one’s choice.
There will be a small gathering at Elsie’s home on Sunday (April 20) at 2 p.m. for family and friends.

NATHAN SCOTT LOVENESS took his last ride in the moonlight on Dec. 25. Nathan was born March 14, 1971 in Klamath Falls, Ore. He spent his early years in Adin, Calif; Malin, Ore.; and Butte Valley Calif. He attended Sacred Heart Academy and graduated from Klamath Union High School. He went to college at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif.
Nathan moved to Seattle, where he lived for several years enjoying the companionship of friends. He visited his grandparents every winter in Arizona and finally moved to Cave Creek to lovingly take care of his grandmother. After her passing he found his passion-building custom homes in the desert that he truly loved.
Nathan loved to travel, spending time in southern Europe, Argentina and spontaneous “road trips” across the United States. He loved spending time with his grandparents, visiting friends and playing with his niece and nephew. He was especially close to his brother, and they enjoyed many long conversations.
Nathan leaves behind many fond memories and especially close friends, including the Baileys, Addingtons, Jack and Ingrid and Tina. His laugh and sense of humor will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his father and stepmother Loren and Elsie Loveness of Wickenburg, Ariz., his mother and stepfather Linda and Donald Micka of Merrill, Ore., brother and best friend Jared and his wife Jennifer Loveness of Mt. Vernon, Wash., and favorite niece and nephew Cierrah and Coleby Loveness, stepsister Jodie Finkenbinder and her husband Tim, nephew Trent, stepbrother Joel Micka and his wife Michele, nephews Cody and Jordon, special friend, partner, uncle Harlan Loveness, aunts and unc les Jeanne and Fred Kwast, Ron and Marylou Loveness, Kelly and Ann Rogers, and numerous cousins. IVAN F. LUCKY of Wickenburg, died Dec. 4, 2001 at Wickenburg Regional Medical Center. He was 88.
Ivan was born Jan. 28, 1913 in Talmage, Neb. He had lived in Arizona for the past 35 years, 15 of them in Wickenburg.
He spent several years in the CCC and patrolled beaches in West Palm Beach, Fla. during World War II.
He was the last sibling in the family of George and Florida (Polk) Lucky. There were six sisters and five brothers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Corine E. Lucky, and one granddaughter, Jaylene Lucky, who resides in Wickenburg.
Additional survivors include a grandson and wife, Matt and Delania and one great-granddaughter, Jessica Carter of Scio, Ore.; two sisters-in-law of Okanagan and Seattle, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.
Ivan did not have any children of his own but after he and Corine retired they took on the responsibility of a second family. They inherited two grandkids, Matt, age 3, and Jaylene, age 2, when they moved to Arizona from LaPine, Ore., where they had already built a home that they planned to live, where they could go fishing behind their house on the Little Deschutes River. They were avid hunters and also loved to travel and roam the desert with good buddies Ken and Bud, also Ivan's faithful companion, his dog Littlebit.
Services were held Dec. 10 at Frey Funeral home with burial following in the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix.

CHARLES "BILL" LUDWIG of Tucson, and formerly of Yarnell, died Dec. 8 in Tucson. He was 73. Mr. Ludwig was born Oct 11, 1923 in Dola, Ohio. He had lived in Arizona for the past 30 years. Mr. Ludwig was a U.S. veteran in World War II. He was a Charter Life Member of the BPOE in Parker, Ariz., and a life member VFW in. Kenton, Ohio. MR. LUDWIG was a 51-year of American Legion Post 79 in Yarnell, serving with the military honor guard of that post. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Yarnell, serving mass for many priests in that church. Mr. Ludwig worked his entire life as a farmer in Dola, Ohio, and Poston, Ariz. -- farming in agriculture crops. He never knew, a stranger and will be greatly missed by family and friends. His favorite was reading and he was a history buff. Mr. Ludwig also loved to watch on TV and in person the Indy car races and all sports events. When he lived in Ohio, he loved to go fishing; He was a very social kind of guy. CHARLES "BILL" LUDWIG of Tucson and formerly of Yarnell. He was 73. Mr. Ludwig was born Oct. 11, 1923 in Dola, Ohio. He had lived in Arizona for the past 30 years. ALLEN THOMAS "TOM" LUEY returned peacefully to his owner on April 21 at his home in Wickenburg. Tom was born on July 5, 1914 in Portland, Ore., to Allen and Mabel Luey. During his childhood he lived in several states as his father was a road engineer. At the age of 5, the family moved to Port Washington, Long Island, N.Y. His father commuted to New York City where he produced educational films. During high school Tom held first chair/soloist clarinet position in the orchestra, and he enjoyed acting in Gilbert and Sullivan productions with the Pirates of Penzance being his favorite. Tom was a "Dartmouth Man," class of 1936. The last reunion he attended was his 65th. His spirit will attend
the 70th in 2006. After graduate school at the Institute of Paper Chemistry, Tom entered the recycled paperboard industry where he worked as a chemist until World War II. He joined the Navy and served four and a half years in the South Pacific aboard the USS Minneapolis. A kamikaze blew off the bow of the ship in the Battle of Coral Sea. The ship limped into a small island and constructed a bow that got the ship to our west coast for repair. Upon leaving the Navy he vowed, "No more sailing".Tom met his wife Joan in 1967 when she joined his company. They married after his wife, Jean died in 1980. Joan was a sailor so the vow of no more time on the sea ended. The Lueys sailed the Great Lakes through the summer of 2003. Since Tom was the radar officer on the USS Minneapolis, his sailboat "Spirit" had radar. Tom had an illustrious business career running a research and development association, BRDA, for over 25 years. Tom held the ex-officio title "Mr. Paperboard." The association had a world-wide membership. Tom was awarded the honor of being a TAPPI Fellow by the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry, and in 1993 was given the most prestigious award, the Gunnar Nicholson Gold Medal. After retiring from BRDA, Tom was asked to serve with the International Executive Service Corps to educate and assist paperboard mills in developing countries. He worked in Panama, Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia. Tom had many interests. He restored antique furniture for dealers in Kalamazoo, Mich., played tennis, golf, and enjoyed a good game of bridge. Tom leaves his wife Joan; his sister's daughter Sheila Fuller and his brother's sons, John, Robert, and Michael Luey and their children. He also leaves his adopted son Zam and his family who live in Lombok, Indonesia, and his sister-in-law, Mary Lou Burdulis. His spirit will remain with all who loved him. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday (April 29) at 3 p.m. at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Wickenburg with Fr. Dan Gerard officiating.

SARAH “SADIE” E. KOONTZ LUKE passed into a better life on May 14, 2007 in her home in Phoenix. She was born in New Castle, Indiana, on June 21, 1952. Sadie is survived by her loving husband RONALD LUKE, daughter, Molly Luke, parents, John and Mary Koontz, brother Charlie Koontz and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in heavenly peace by her brother Michael. A memorial service will be held at her residence in Phoenix by Phoenix Children’s Hospital, where she worked as a EEG technician with over 30 years in the profession. JOSEPHINE LUND, 83, of Ft. Collins, Colo., passed away on May 27. She is survived by her son Jackson Lind of Mesa, Ariz.; sister Jean Graham of Ft. Scott, Kans., Billie Swope of Cortez, Colo.; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Hugh J. Lind, and daughter, Nancy Van Reijn. Josephine was born in Pueblo, Col., on May 31, 1923 of Christian and Belle Sinding. She graduated salutatorian from Fowler Highs School and attended Western State College in Gunnison, Col. She married Hugh J. Lind and they celebrated 60 years of marriage. Known as “Jo” by her friends, she helped establish a MOPS chapter in Ft. Collins in 1981, serving as Titus Woman and Mentor Mom to hundreds of young mothers. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Ft. Collins and loved singing in the church choir. Her hobbies were ceramic, crocheting, knitting, and entertaining friends in her home. A funeral service was held on Thursday (May 31) at first Baptist Church, 900 E. Prospect Ave. in Ft. Collins, Colo., with burial services at Fowler Cemetery in Fowler, Colo. On Saturday (June 2) Pastor Mark Hanke officiated at the services. JOHN W. LUSK of Wickenburg, died May 1 in Wickenburg. He was 82.
Mr. Lusk was born April 19, 1914 in Baldwin, Mich. He had lived in Arizona for the past 20 years, coming here from Michigan. Mr. Lusk was a retiree of Rowe International in Grand Rapids, Mich. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, and received numerous decorations including the Silver Star, Purple Heart, Distinguished Unit Badge, Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the European-African Middle Eastern Service Medal with five bronze stars while serving in Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, northern France and the Rhineland. He was a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Lusk is survived by his daughter and son–in-law Bonnie and Richard MILLER of Belmont, Mich.; sister Alice MERRILL of Baldwin, Mich.; brother Chuck Lusk of Battle Creek, Mich.; grandchildren Michelle Woblin and Dicksie Tremlin both of Belmont, Barry Miller of Rockford, Mich., and Tom Miller of Greenville, Mich.; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Lusk was preceded in death by his wife EMMA LUSK in December 1994. Cremation and private memorial services have been held.

Mrs. ALBERT LYNAM Rites To Be Held In Santa Barbara
Funeral services will be held in Santa Barbara, Calif., next Monday for MRS. ALBERT H. LYNAM, who passed away early last Saturday morning, May 29, in Community Hospital here. Mrs. Lynam's home here was on the South Mesa at Rancho de Los Caballeros, which she purchased three years ago. She was 75 years of age and had been in ill health for some time past. Her husband passed away a number of years ago.
Mrs. Lynam was born in Bar Harbor, Maine, and had lived in Santa Barbara for 15 years before coming to Wickenburg. The only close survivor is a daughter, Miss Marie LYNAM, who has made her home with her mother here.

Rites held for Mrs. EDITH LYNN
Funeral services were conducted in the Wickenburg Chapel Sunday afternoon for Mrs. EDITH WOERNER LYNN who died in Community Hospital at 1 p.m. Friday of last week, than two months after her husband, HAROLD F. LYNN died. Rev. James WILSON, Presbyterian minister, officiated. The body was then shipped to San Bruno, Calif., for burial in the Cypress Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Lynn was born January 13, 1900, in San Francisco. She traveled throughout the world with her late husband, a mining engineer. They moved to Wickenburg in 1954 when Mr. Lynn organized the Mohave Mining & Milling Co. of which he was president. He died here May 13. Only survivors are a sister-in-law, Mrs. Doris LYNN, and two nieces of Oakland, Calif.

California Rites For Mother of H. F. LYNN
Funeral services were held in San Jose, Calif., this week for Mrs. MARTHA LYNN, mother of H. F. LYNN of Wickenburg who died there Monday afternoon.
She was a widow and her son here is her only immediate survivor. Mr. LYNN, president of Mohave Mining & Milling Co., and Mrs. LYNN went to San Jose Sunday when he was advised of the seriousness of his mother’s illness.
