‘LILLIE’ ESMERALDA OROSCO GARCIA MACIAS was born to Fernando Avila and Teresa Grijalva Orosco on June 26, 1918 in Wickenburg, Ariz. She returned to our Lord March 2 in Phoenix. She had three brothers, Fernando G and Coney G. Orosco and Arthur Castro. They all preceded her in death. She was the last of the Oroscos of Wickenburg. Lillie was a descendant of two of the founding Mexican families of Wickenburg - the Oroscos and the Grijalvas. Lillie lived in Wickenburg proper her entire life except for a school year in Vulture when her father worked in the Vulture mine. She lost her mother at an early age, and because her father frequently worked out of town, she and her brothers were taken to live with her mother’s sister, Marcelina Garcia. She lived there until she married. In 1931 she married Avelardo “Bill” Garcia. He was the grandson of another prominent Wickenburg man Ignacio Garcia Sr. She then moved to the Ignacio Sr. and Manuela La Madrid Garcia household. In 1938 they bought their home in the area of Basha’s parking lot, across from the jail and next to the elementary school. Lillie was always smiling and full of energy. She was a lady who lived life to its fullest, unafraid of any new adventure such as turning steel for her husband Bill and her son when they worked their mine claims or biting a mustang’s ear so her husband could mount it, thereby earning the nickname “Dynamite.” She loved cooking, especially for her family. She worked at the Slash Bar K guest ranch for many years. Lillie and Bill had two children, seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren. Bill passed away in 1959. In 1961, Lillie married Joe V. Macias. They were both actively involved in church activities. It saddened her that because of her health, she had to cease her activities. She was renowned for her bean burritos that were in great demand at all church fundraisers. Lillie is survived by her loving husband Joe and two step-children Arturo Castillo and Conchita Macias; her daughter Teresa and son Bill. Teresa married Barry S. McMillen and gave her four grandchildren: Barry W., M. Dana (Dianne), Peter D. (Tina) and Laurel M. (Pat Ryan). Bill married Diana Damaskas and had three children: Bill Jr., Cynthia D. (Bill Ballinger), and Steve L. (Erin). Great-grandchildren are Barry J. (Denielle) McMillen, William R. McMillen, Richard E. McMIllen, Jade M. McMillen, Blake W. McMillen, Megan D. Bill was born Feb. 5,1921 in Tipton, Ind., to Clara and Bill McCauley Sr., and he was raised in the rural farming community. Bill was a natural mechanic, and in early adulthood started a bicycle repair and sales business. He also loved motorcycles and rebuilt a wrecked “Indian” motorcycle to use as his transportation. He included motorcycles into his repair and sales operation. He often made the long trip from Tipton, Ind., to his sister Irene’s in Grand Rapids, Mich., on that first and favorite “Indian”. In mid-adulthood he moved to the Denver, Colo., area and started a desert racing machine business. Racers brought their own selected vehicles, usually Jeeps, and Bill would customize them to their specs for their racing needs. Bill also raced his own creations in Arizona and Baja, Mexico. About 1978 Bill retired from that business and moved to Yuma, Ariz., in his motor home where he met the love of his life, Ethel May. They shared their love of travel with the motor home and married in 1980 continuing to travel all of the 48 states for the remaining years. They moved from Yuma to their present home in Wickenburg in about 1982. Bill loved life, fast machinery, animals (especially his dog “Peanut”) children, good food and most of all travel with his wife Ethel. Bill is survived by his wife Ethel of Wickenburg; daughter Cindy of Denver, Colo.; niece Tudy SMITH of Sharpsville, Indiana, and nephews Richard and James COVERT of Astoria and Salem, Oregon. Services where held at the Wickenburg, Elks Lodge 2160 Monday July 21. Burial will be in the Arapaho Cemetery in Clinton, Okla., Thursday July 24. EMILY L. McMANAMY was born on Jan. 29, 1916 in Thorne, N.D. Her parents, Fred and Grace Leigh, owned the Plainview Seed Farm which was 12 miles from the Peace Garden, on the Canadian border. Emily and her sister Helen helped with the cooking for the hired hands who worked the 1,800-acre farm. A younger sister, Lois, died at the age of 13. Her many stories of the farm didn't include the "I walked five miles in the snow" story. Emily was driving at the age of 12, and she drove herself and her sisters to school every day. Emily graduation from the University of North Dakota in 1936 with a degree in dietetics. She further trained in Salt Lake City and became a registred dietitian, of which she was very proud. She was the head of the dietetics department at San Jose Hospital in California for many years. In 1948, she married John (Jack) McManamy and had two children, Beth and Rex Christopher. Jack found out in 1955 that he had Parkinson's Disease and was told to move to a drier climate. In 1958, Jack got in the car and started driving east. When he got to the town of Wickenburg, he found what he was looking for -- a piece of property on the Phoenix Highway caught his attention because it had a small house and a business building on it. He purchased the property and went back to California to get Emily and the kids. The Sunset Rock Shop was born, the kids started school at MacLennan Elementary, and Emily started working for the First Presbyterian Church on Sunday. Jack died in 1962 when his Parkinson's became severe and he got pneumonia. By now, Emily loved Wickenburg and knew that this was the town she wanted her kids to grow up in. Beth graduated from Wickenburg High School in 1969, and Rex in 1971. Emily moved to Flagstaff in 1971 so her children could live at home while they attended Northern Arizona University. Rex moved to the East Coast, married Cheryl and they had a daughter, Leigh. In 1986, Emily moved to Phoenix to be near Beth and her family. Beth and Vice had adopted Nicole when she was 3 days old, and Emily was in heaven helping to care for her. As Nicole grew, Emily taught her, at an early age, to sew on the machine, cook, iron and use the typewriter. Nicole spent a lot of quality time with her grandmother during the following 15 years. Emily loved to cook, craft, sew, crochet, knit and read, and the Lord blessed her with the gift of nurturing. Her love of family and friends was monumental. She took care of all around her. In 1992, Emily too was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. She never let it get her down. She pushed herself to lead the life she wanted, which included the church, friends and family. In 1997, Emily moved into the Good Shepherd Care Center in Peoria, Ariz. She now needed an assisted living environment. Emily became a special friend to many there. The activities became her special joy. She now added bingo to her loves! Until three months ago, Emily was able to come to Wickenburg for weekends where Beth and her family lived. Beth couldn't stay away from the town she loved, and had moved back with her family in 1997. During the last six months, Emily was blessed to have Nicole Ray in her life. Nicole worked for Good Shepherd and adopted Emily. Together, they too spent many wonderful hours together. Nicole loved Emily and thought of her as her grandmother. Emily's Parkinson's progressed very rapidly during the month of June, and our merciful Lord ended her pain on June 30. She was 85. Emily is survived by her daughter Beth McManamy Gallant, Beth's husband Vic, and their daughter Nicole; her son Rex McManamy and his daughter Leigh; her stepson Russell McManamy, his wife Barbara, and their five children Debbie, Patti, Joyce, Russ and Christina, and nephews Norman Bunas, Gary Bunas, Stan Bunas and their families. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday (July 7) at First Presbyterian Church in Wickenburg, 180 N. Adams St. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Good Shepherd Care Center, Activities Department, 10323 W. Olive Ave., Peoria, AZ 85345.

JOSHUA TAGGART MILLER, a Baltimore-born lacrosse player and advocate who left a successful career in investment banking to pursue his passions for acting and writing, passed away suddenly on June 16, 2005 in Los Angeles, Calif., after a long struggle with depression. Josh graduated in 1991 from The Gilman School in Baltimore, where he was an outstanding student and athlete, serving as co-captain of the senior football and lacrosse teams. A 1995 graduate of Princeton University, he majored in United States history and was senior co-captain of the Tigers' varsity lacrosse team, earning All-American honors. His life-long love of lacrosse led him to a series of coaching positions, including assistant coach for the 1996 NCAA playoff team at Hofstra University and several youth lacrosse programs. In 2001, soon after moving to the West Coast, Josh founded Tiger Camp California, a San Francisco-based summer lacrosse camp affiliated with Princeton University's coaching staff. Soon after, he founded Lacrosse for Life, a volunteer organization that introduces lacrosse to at-risk youth in under-served urban communities. Troubled by the lack of resources in the city's poorer schools, Josh saw Lacrosse for Life as a bridge to success for inner city children, teaching them how goal-setting, discipline and commitment could help them achieve larger dreams. In 2003, US Lacrosse named Josh and Andrew McDonald, who helped him launch the organization, as "Exceptional Urban/Motivational Youth Coaches of the Year." McDonald and Johanna Thomashefski, continue to run the program today. At the time of his death, Josh was writing and acting in Los Angeles. Josh was a sensitive, insightful person who set the highest possible standards for himself in all he pursued, from his acting studies and writing to his community work. He will be deeply missed as a son, friend and colleague. Josh is survived by his parents, Edwin F. Miller and Sherry Taggart Miller of Oxford, Maryland; his paternal grandparents Charles Hobart Miller and Edith May Miller, of Ocean City, Md.; his maternal grandmother Mary M. Taggart and aunt Connie Sue Walworth and her husband Joe, all of Wickenburg, Ariz.; his uncle Gordon M. Taggart and his wife Mary of Tempe, Ariz.; his uncle Richard D. WOMAN KILLED IN ACCIDENT
Husband is Injured Severely and Car Demolished in Collision With Truck.
ELIZABETH MOYLAN, 23 years old, was killed and her husband, J. S. MOYLAN, was critically injured last Saturday when their new sedan and a truck sideswiped seven miles east of Salome on U. S. Highway 89. C. BRUSH of Harvard City, Calif., the only witness to the accident, declared to W. W. WITT, the investigating highway patrolman, that MOYLAN was traveling at a very high rate of speed and suddenly veered toward the truck, which as east bound. The Moylan car was west bound, the couple being on their way home to Harbor City, California, after making a trip to Baltimore, Maryland, to purchase the car and visit with Mrs. Moylan's family, who live there. The truck, driven by Robert SHELTON of Phoenix, was uninjured, although the truck was knocked off the highway and damaged to the extent of about $300. The Moylan car was spun around by the impact until it faced east, the opposite direction in which it had been traveling. Mrs. MOYLAN was thrown clear of the car, her body cut up horrible. Shelton was exonerated by a coroner's jury. The MOYLAN car was completely demolished. MOYLAN, who was taken to the Salome hospital for treatment and later removed to St. Joseph's hospital in Phoenix, had one leg almost cut off and suffered many cuts and abrasions. It was at first thought it would be necessary to amputate the leg, but it was learned this week that such was not the case, but that he will have to remain in the hospital for several weeks, and possible months. Up until noon Thursday it was not known where nor when Mrs. Moylan's body would be shipped. It was brought to the Wickenburg Funeral Home by Patrolman WITT.
