LESTER DAGEL of Rockport, Texas, and formerly of Wickenburg died Nov. 26. He was 83. MR. DAGEL was born April, 1913 in Sibley, Iowa. He and his wife, who survives him, worked many years at Rancho de Los Caballeros before retiring. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Dorothy; a son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Nora Bagel of Grand Rapids, Mich.; daughter and son-in-law Judy and David FOUT of Show Low; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a son, "Lucky" DAGEL. Services have been held.

ALICE F. DAHL of Congress, died Sept. 30 in Wickenburg. She was 82. Mrs. Dahl was born April 12, 1914 in Prineville, Ore. She had lived in Arizona for the past five years, coming from Oregon. Survivors include her daughters, Martha Bender of Congress, Priscilla Ramey of Redmond, Ore, and Priscilla Lee of Obrien of Bend, Ore.; five grand-children; and eight great-grandchildren. Services have been held.

RAY DAIR, AGE 56 IS SUMMONED HERE
An illness of many years brought death on August 17 in Community Hospital, Wickenburg, to RAY DAIR, age 56. The Dair family came to Wickenburg eight months ago from Wittmann and had lived in Arizona a year last June. Recently Mr. Dair had been living in Riverside, Calif., where he was engaged as a spray gun painter. When his illness took a turn for the worse, he returned to Wickenburg the middle of July and entered the hospital here a week later, on July 24. Mr. and Mrs. Dair and their 13-year-old twin daughters, Denelda May and Delores Ray, moved to Arizona from Clare, Michigan. A son, Larry, age 31, and a daughter, Mrs. Shirley Defendorf, reside in Lansing, Mich. Other survivors are a brother, Frank, living in Everett, Mich., and a sister, Mrs. Grace March of Petoskey, in the same state. Funeral services were held last Sunday at 2 p. m. at the Wickenburg Chapel, conducted by Rev. Lee Surber, who is visiting here at the home of his brother, Rev. Charles Surber. Burial followed in the Wickenburg Cemetery.

Funeral Thursday For TOM DAMASKOS
Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon for THOMAS DAMASKOS, Wickenburg resident who died of a heart attack at Community Hospital at 6:55 a.m. Tuesday. Services were in the Wickenburg Chapel with Mrs. Frank CROZIER of the Christian Science Church and officials of the Kellis-Draper Post of the American Legion officiating. Cremation was to follow in Phoenix after which the ashes will be buried in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. DAMASKOS was born in Grizano Frikalo, Greece, October 5, 1896, and came to the United States when he was 16 years old, settling first in New York City. He became a citizen and joined the Army prior to World War I. When war was declared, he was on the Mexican border with U.S. troops pursuing Pancho Villa. During the war he served in France and afterwards in the army of occupation in Germany. In all he served three enlistments in the military service. He was a member of both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In 1936 Mr. Damaskas moved to Prescott for his health and a year later came to Wickenburg. He was married to the former Allie Rush in 1938. During his time here he was a cook in the Texas Cafe and the Santa Fe Cafe until recent years when he was retired. Surviving are the widow; one daughter, Diana, a senior in the Wickenburg High School; two step-daughters, Mrs. AdelI WORTHEN of Wickenburg and Mrs. Jimmie McGEE of Lawndale, California; and four grandchildren including Priscilla WORTHEN of Wickenburg.

MIKE D. DANIELS of Wickenburg, died June 19 in Wickenburg. He was 44. Mr. Daniels was born July 4, 1956 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He had lived in Arizona for the past 20 years. Mike had friends who stuck with him until the end. He was truly loved. Mike was a Choctaw Indian and a fighter to the end. Up until two years ago he had been exceptionally healthy. He was an avid body builder, marathon runner and health enthusiast. He lived for football. He graduated with top honors at Devry Institute of Technology, winning the best all-around student award. He became a very successful independent computer contractor. Mike adored the land, wildlife, animals, and children. He served his country in the U.S. Navy, leaving with an honorable discharge and receiving the National Defense Service medal. He was an artist with oil paintings at Helen Vohl's Gallery. He was also a writer. A true family man and warrior up until his recent death. We will miss him immensely -- Mike, rest in peace. He is survived by his wife, Deidre J. DANIELS; father Dan DANIELS and his wife, JoAnne; a daughter, Kayla; one sister; and five brothers. He was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian Verno. No services were held. Frey Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

BESSIE LUCILLE CHRISTOPH-ROUND-DANIELSON of Burien, Wash. and formerly of Wickenburg, died May 11 in Burien. She was 81. Mrs. Christoph-Round-Danielson was born Aug. 23, 1914 in Forsyth, Mont. She was a loving mother and housewife. Survivors include five daughters, Leslie THUNDEREAGLE of Wickenburg, Laura of Colorado, and Doris, Cord and Helen, all of Washington State; a brother, Glen, of Washington; eight granddaughters; five grandsons; eight great-granddaughters; one great-great-granddaughter; and two nephews. Mrs. CHRISTOPH-ROUND-DANIELSON was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, two husbands, one daughter and her mother and father. Private services have been conducted. Arrangements were by Brown's Wickenburg Funeral Home.

FUNERAL FOR D. DANNER
Funeral services were held last Saturday afternoon for DEMPSEY LEE DANNER, 21 year old, who was killed in a mine accident last week. Howard COFFINGER was in charge of the funeral arrangements and interment was made in the Wickenburg cemetery. Surviving him besides his wife, Ruby and a sister, Mrs. Homer ROSE of Morristown, are other relatives who reside in Phoenix.

MARY LOLIO DARE, 87, the daughter of John Lolio and Amelia ROSSI, was born June 2, 1921 in Herkimer, N.Y. She attended Herkimer County Public Schools through eighth grade. She left school during the depression to work with her mother in a home business, ironing curtains to assist her family with finances. At age 19 she married Joseph Pugliese also of Herkimer. To this union one son was born. The family shortly thereafter moved to Ft. Plain, N.Y., where her husband set up a shoe repair business. The couple later divorced. After the divorce she moved to Gloversville, N.Y., and worked in the Glove Mills as a factory worker for several years. In 1973 she moved to Tucson, Ariz., where she worked in the I Magnin department store as a sales clerk and floor manager. She subsequently moved to Wickenburg, Ariz., and worked in Western Dry Goods where she was known for miles around for her customer service. On Aug. 22, 1984 she married Norval Sterling Dare and moved to reside on a desert ranch near Aguila, Ariz., until her recent death. During her last few years Mr. Dare cared for her with unlimited kindness and patience, for which he is to be praised. She is survived by her husband Norval Sterling Dare of Aguila; son Joseph Pugliese of Cheyenne, Wyoming; granddaughters Gina Pugliese of New York City, N.Y.; and Rosanna LeMaster of Great Lakes, Illinois; nieces Janet Axelesson of Cape May, N.J.; Amelia Wood of Mohawk, N.Y.; Ann Jenks of Ft. Plain, N.Y.; and numerous cousins and their extended families. She was preceded in death by her brother Anthony Lolio, her sister Rosemary Lolio Jackson, her nephew John Lolio, and her parents. Memorial graveside services will be held Jan. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frankfurt, N.Y. Her ashes will be buried in a gravesite next to her deceased brother. For further information regarding the funeral service contact the Enea Family Funeral Home in Ilion, N.Y. A gathering for family and friends will be held at the home of her niece Amelia Wood in Mohawk, N.Y. Mary Lolio Dare was known to her family as an elegant, loving and attractive lady. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.

FUNERAL HELD FOR MARY K. DAUGHERTY
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at 10 a. m. at the Wickenburg chapel for MRS. MARY K. DAUGHERTY who passed away following a lingering illness at the home of her daughter, Mrs Newt Aldous. The Rev. Ross Cleeland officiated at the services and Mrs. Carl Shride and Mrs. Roy Richards rendered several songs. The Hassayampa Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star conducted brief services at the cemetery. Mrs Daugherty would have been 79 years old in July. She was a pioneer resident of Arizona coming here in 1887 from her home at Edgerton, Ill. She had been a Wickenburg resident during the past 16 years. Mrs Daugherty had been a member of the Eastern Star since 1922; also was a Past Noble Grand officer of the Rebecca lodge of Flagstaff. In addition to her daughter Mrs Aldous, and a grandson James she is survived by two sons Leith J. Wheeler of Wickenburg and Ora Wheeler of Ajo; also two sisters, Mrs Ethel O'Donnell of Los Angeles and Mrs. Minnie Tarr of Kansas. Mrs Daugherty leaves a wide circle of friends in Wickenburg and throughout Arizona who mourn her passing. She had been in ill-health for nearly two years and had become gradually worse during the past two weeks. Mrs Daugherty had made her home with her daughter and family south of town for many years.

Funeral services for LEONARDO DAVILA , 67-year-old native Arizonan who died suddenly at his home here at noon Wednesday, are pending the arrival of his three sons from Los Angeles. Burial will be in the Garcia Cemetery here. The retired laborer was seated in the home he shared with his sister, Mrs. Francisca Brady, when he had a fatal heart attack. He was born in Prescott and had lived in Wickenburg for many years. Surviving are the three sons, Leonardo, Jr., Audlaio and David, all of Los Angeles; the sister here; and 10 grandchildren.

ELROY L. DAVIS of Wickenburg, died Jan. 19. He was 81. Mr. Davis was born Oct. 10, 1919 in Cleveland, Ohio. He had lived in Arizona for the past 17 years, moving here from California in 1983. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife, Frances DAVIS of Wickenburg; daughters Sherry GARCIA of California, Laura JONES of Arizona and Christine MONTOYA of Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at the First Presbyterian Church of Peoria, 10236 N. 83rd Ave., Peoria. All arrangements were by the Sunland Mortuary of Sun City.

LAWRENCE H. DAVIS Gives Up His Life Fighting In France
Memorial services will be held at 8:30 o’clock this Sunday evening, at the First Baptist Church here, for LAWRENCE H. DAVIS, first Wickenburg boy to lose his life on the battlefields of France in this war. He was killed in action on June 19th while serving with the American invasion forces and the telegram from the War Department telling of his death was received by his mother, Mrs. Rose HENRY, last Friday morning. No additional details were given in the telegram.
Lawrence, a Private First Class in the Medical Detachment of an Infantry Regiment, was a junior in the Wickenburg High School when called into service. He would have been 20 years old on November 13th of this year. He was a popular, well-liked youth; a typical American boy, fond of animals and farming, full of life and energy, and when the call came to serve his country in time of war, he did not hesitate to respond. News of his death in battle comes as a severe shock to his mother, his brothers and sisters, and him many friends throughout this community.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are the father, W. F. Davis, Wickenburg, and four sisters, and three brothers; Mrs. Ernest DICKIE Mrs. Charles SHONTZ of Wickenburg; Mrs. Dorothy SCARBOROUGH of San Francisco; Mrs. Helen McQUERY of Hemet, Calif.; W. A. DAVIS of Chico, Calif.; George of Bagdad and a younger brother, James, who is in the navy. The latter is in Wickenburg now on leave while Mrs. Scarborough has come from San Francisco to be with the other members of the family here.

FINAL RITES HELD FOR MRS. L. T. DAVIS
Funeral services for Mrs. LEWIS TALBERT DAVIS, 56, lifelong resident of Wickenburg, were held Friday, May 10, at 10: 00 a. m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with burial in the Wickenburg cemetery. Mrs. Davis passed away at her home May 7 following an illness of several months. Her husband preceded her in death in 1936. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Harry HERSHKOWITZ, Jr., of Wickenburg, a son, George TICE, and three grandchildren. Five nephews came from Los Angeles for the services. They were T. B. VILLA, Jr., Frank, John, Aurilo and Raymond VILLA. Also here was a niece, Mrs. Steve CAMPBELL, of Randsburg, Calif.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock this afternoon (Friday) at the Wickenburg chapel for PETE DAVIS, 61-year-old resident of this community for the past four years, who passed away Tuesday morning at community Hospital where he had been a patient since October 30. Rev. William Barker of the First Baptist church will conduct the services and burial will be in Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Davis was a native Arizonan, having been born February 19, 1892 in Phoenix. He became ill while he was in Phoenix training horse for Dr. J. C. McGRATH of Phoenix and dick Denny of Skull Valley and was brought to the hospital here. The surviving are his wife, Mrs. Leona DAVIS; two sisters, Mrs. William L. BARRON and Mrs. Ella FARLEY, both of Phoenix, and a brother Ora HANN of Prescott. He is also survived by three uncles, William H. and Newt TIPTON, both of Phoenix, and Gus TIPTON of Camp Wood, Arizona.

WILLIAM R. DAVISON of Wickenburg, died Jan 16 in Sun City West. He was 74. Bill was born May 6, 1926 in Los Angeles, served in the Navy during World War II, and lived in Southern California until moving to Wickenburg in 1981. He retired from greyhound in 1986. Bill was an active member of the Wickenburg country Club, serving two terms on the Board of Directors, and was also a member of the Wickenburg Elks Lodge No. 2160. He is survived by his wife, Marion Davidson; sister Marion (Marshall) Parker; brother Edward (Charlene) Davidson; daughter Nancy (Marhsall) Andrews and family, daughter Roberts Davidson and son William (Roxie) Davidson and family, and son Richard (Sandy) Davidson and family. LOUISE GOLDSMITH DAWSON of Wickenburg and Yarnell, passed away on March 25 in Prescott at the age of 90. Born Aug 5, 1910 in Michigan, she grew up in Southern California, living most of her life in Anaheim before moving to Arizona in 1995. Louise’s love of music was second only to her love of family. Her late husband Clyde played assortment of musical instruments, including the musical saw which he taught her play, and they both look their music and smiles to the nursing homes, besides playing in small bands around Anaheim. She saw life as an adventure and found joy in everyday events that many people might overlook. Her laughter and enthusiasm and caring for others will always be remember and treasured. She is survived by one daughter, Carole Jarvis and husband Dan, of Forepaugh; granddaughter Dannalee Jarvis, also of Forepaugh; granddaughter Laura Moore and husband Mark of Prescott; granddaughter Donnel Richmond of California, and Dean Dawson and wife Teresa of Ohio. She also leaves 10 great-grandchildren. Louise was preceded in death by her husband Clyde; and son Dan Dawson of Wickenburg. Services have been held.

Wittmann Rites for JOHN G. DAY
Funeral services for JOHN GOULD DAY held in the Wittmann Community Chapel Wednesday with the Rev. Ed Hill officiating. Burial was in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Day died last Saturday morning in Community Hospital here. Mr. Day was born in Hartford, Wisconsin, November 11, 1896. He was employed as an electrician for leading Hollywood motion picture studios before moving to Wittmann six years ago to operate Day’s Rock Shop. He was a Mason and a veteran of World War I. Surviving are the widow, Irene; one daughter, Mrs. Frances WILLIAMS of San Francisco; and three sisters in Wisconsin.

GERRY DAYLEY of Wickenhurg, died Feb. 17 in Wickenburg. She was 69. Mrs. Dayley was born Aug. 1, 1927 in Seminole, Okla. She had lived Arizona for the past 25 years, coming from New Mexico. Survivors include three daughters, Paulette Beakley and Pam Dayley of Camarillo, Calif., and Penny Burhans of Phoenix. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 at Genung Memorial Cemetery in Peeples Valley.

Funeral services for JOSEPH W. DeBERRY were held in the Wickenburg Chapel last Saturday afternoon with the Rev. d. F. O’SULLIVAN, pastor of St. Anthony’s Catholic church, officiating. Burial followed in the Wickenburg Cemetery with Rev. O’SULLIVAN and members of the Elks Lodge conducting graveside rites. Mr. DeBerry, who had lived in Wickenburg for the past 11 years, died in community Hospital at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday of last week. Born in Mineral Wells, Texas, May 17, 1913, Mr. DeBerry moved to Douglas, Ariz., in January of 1937. He came here in 1951 to become bartender of La Cabana. He was a charter member of the local elks Club. Surviving are the widow, Virginia; four children, Joann, Barbara and Sue of Wickenburg, and Joe Pat DeBERRY of Eldorado, Kansas; four sisters, Mrs. Chloe HESS and Mrs. Marvin DAVIS of Mineral Wells, Texas, Mrs. Fannie M. WHATLEY of Graford, Texas, and Mrs. Marie Lee BOST of Phoenix; and two brothers, James of Mineral Wells and Raymond of Denver, Colorado.

BELLE HERSHKOWITZ DECK went to be with our Heavenly Father on June 18, 2005. She was 94. Belle was born October 25, 1909 in Congress, Ariz. Bell was the tenth child born to Harry and Susie HERSHKOWITZ. She lived her entire life in Congress, except for a few years after her marriage when they lived in Octave. She returned to Congress to spend the rest of her years serving the community there. Belle at one time owned several businesses in the Congress area - the Texaco Station, the Sierra Vista Motel, and the old Post Office, which she leased to the U.S. Postal Service. She ran a boarding house from the Old Hotel on Highway 89. Belle drilled the first water wells in the area and started the water company, which is today the Congress Domestic Water Company. Thanks to the generosity of Belle and her husband Oscar, the Good Shepherd of the Desert has a home on the property that they donated for the construction of the church. Belle was a faithful parishioner all of her life. Survivors include her daughter-in-law Bernece, her two grandsons Kenneth Mitchell Deck and his wife Debbie, and Todd Deck. She had one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews of the Wickenburg area. Visitation will be held at Frey-Wickenburg Funeral Home, 187 N. Adams Street, Wickenburg from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, June 27. Rosary will be there at 7 p.m., Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 28 at Good Shepherd of the Desert Catholic Church in Congress. Burial will follow in the Congress Cemetery.

CHARLES "Bud" DECKER, of Fountain Hills and formerly of Wickenburg, died Jan 27 in Scottsdale. He was 61. Mr. Decker was born Aug. 25, 1934 in Janesville, Wisc. He owned and operated Decker Electric and Wisconsin and Arizona, and was employed at Western electric in Phoenix for 13 years. He also renovated The Lazy Fox Ranch in Wickenburg and lived here for eight years. Mr. Decker developed the towns of Punkin Center and Jakes Corner, near Roosevelt Lake and resided in Fountain Hills for the past four and one-half years. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; daughters Linda, Pat, Molly and Marnie; sons Hal, Shane and George; six grandchildren; and several aunts and uncles. Services have been held. Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

The death of Mrs. VIRGINIE DELAHAUT of congress at Community Hospital August 10, took from the community a colorful personality who had lived in Congress for the past 28 years. Born in France November 17, 1870, she came to America when 22 years old, working her way on the ship for her passage. She lived in Oklahoma for 33 years before moving to Arizona. Mrs. Delahaut was widely known for her long custom of making flowers and wreaths from paper with which she decorated all graves in the Congress cemetery each Memorial Day.

She was first married September 30, 1893 to ELISSE DUPIRE at Atoka, Oklahoma. Four children by that marriage are still living. They are Mrs. Adeline DONAT, Gowen, Okla.; Mrs. Elizabeth SITES, Henryetta, Okla.; Frank DUPIRE, Bokoshe, Okla., and Charley DUPIRE, Hobbs, N.M.
On March, 17, 1903, she was married to Louis DELAHAUT who passed away December 15, 1916, in Coalgate, Okla. Two sons born of that marriage survive. They are Eugene V. DELAHAUT of Congress and Joe E. DELAHAUT of Turlock, Calif. Rosary was said for Mrs. Delahaut at 8 p.m. Wednesday and Mass Thursday morning at 8 o’clock at St. Anthony’s Church here, after which the body was taken to Congress for burial in the cemetery there.

DONALD AIKEN De LORIA of Wickenburg died Feb. 2, 1996, in Peoria. He was 81. Mr. DeLoria was born Jan.6, 1915 in Lake Placid, N. Y. He had lived in Arizona for one and one half years, coming here from New York. In 1934 at the age of 19 he enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He served three years as a mechanic and chauffeur in the Plattsburgh, Lake Placid and Newcomb (N. Y.) barracks. He moved from Lake Placid to Massena, N.Y. in 1941 where he worked for Alcoa. In 1944 he moved to Tahawus, N.Y. and was employed by the national Lead Company in 1963, when the National Lead Company decided to mine the iron ore under the village of Tahawus he and his family moved to Newcomb. N.Y., where he remained employed by NL Industries. He retired in1976 with31 years of service. In Newcomb he served as a member of the Newcomb Community League, the Lions Club and the Newcomb Fire Department. He moved to Wickenburg in August of 1993 with his wife Beatrice. Mr. DeLoria is survived by his wife of 41 years, Beatrice Irene of Wickenburg; son Edward of Apopka, Fla., Marvin of Rochester, N.Y. Shane of Choctaw, Okla., Cris of Ontario, Canada, Robin of Newcomb, N.Y., and Kyle Of Albany N.Y.; sister Maria DeLoria of Lake Placid; brother David DeLoria of Port Byron, N. Y.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grand children. He was Preceded in death by his parents, Edward Aiken and Floy (Mussen) DeLoria; infant daughter Anne in 1942; and his eldest brother Hubert DeLoria in 1993. Funeral services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. DeLoria's name to a charity of one's choice. Frey Funeral Home and Cremation Service was in charge of all the arrangements.

LEVI J. DENNIS, 21, left us Nov. 2. He was born Jan. 26, 1987, in Phoenix, Ariz. Levi, a home-school graduate in 2004, earned his Awana Citation Award in 2005 and attained his Associates Degree from Yavapai College in 2006. Shortly after, he entered the Navy, having just completed his training as a Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman. He held the rank of Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class. He is well remembered for his help in Awana Clubs, earning his citation in 2005. He enjoyed working with his peers and helping the leaders, but had the greatest impact working with young children (the youngsters adored him). His charismatic, mischievous nature is missed by his parents Ben and Mary, his brother Shane and sister-in-law Kristy. He will also be missed by brother Jesse, sisters Heather and Dasia, and brothers Galen and Ian. Many family and friends and SARC team members are already missing him. Memorial services will be held at Skull Valley Bible Church on Saturday (Nov. 15). His family is most assured by his acceptance of Christ and considers Levi’s habit of telling those he spoke to he loved them, one of his greatest gifts to those near him. JAMES M. "JIM" DENMAN of Morristown died Nov, 24 in Sun City West. He was 79. Mr. Denman was born Dec. 9, 1916 in Gratiot County, Mich. He had lived in Arizona for 14 years, coming from Michigan. Mr. Denman was a graduate of Ferris State College and a Naval veteran of World War II. He also was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wickenburg. Mr. Denman worked and retired as a pharmacist in Michigan, owning several pharmacies and working for Mt. Sinai Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisc., and West Shore Hospital in Manistee, Mich. He had a very, good understanding and know ledge of the human anatomy. MR. DENMAN and his wife Marguerite enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States and Canada. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Marguerite; children Peter James and Roslyn DENMAN of Escanaba, Mich., Philip DENMAN of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Patricia and Dennis SMITH of Manistee, Mich.; brother George DENMAN of Flint, Mich.; and grandchildren David and Benjamin SMITH of Manistee and Camilla and Roseanne DENMAN of Escanaba. The Wickenburg Sun Mar. 31, 1961 Rites in Salome For Mrs. DENNIS Funeral services for Mrs. HELEN T. DENNIS of Salome were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Baptist Church of that town with the Rev. Bruce Caldwell, the pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Wenden Cemetery. Mrs. Dennis, who was born in Germany 75 years ago, died last Saturday morning in the Faith Rest Home in Phoenix after a long illness. At once time she was in the Echo Hills Nursing Home here. When Mrs. Dennis came to the United States as a young adult she lived in Buffalo, N. Y. She had no known survivors. Mrs. Dennis was widely known as the caretaker of the large collection of birds which were a tourist attraction at Sheffler’s in Salome until the birds were removed about 5 years ago. She has lived in Salome since 1929 and retired when the birds were moved.

HEART ATTACK PROVES FATAL
MRS. DENNY Of Salome Summoned At Hospital
A heart attack claimed the life of Mrs. MABEL VALERIE DENNY of Salome at Community Hospital here Tuesday morning at 11:10 o'clock. An hour previous to her death, all of her teeth had been extracted. According to her husband Clarence DENNY who is the operator of Taylor's Garage in Salome, she had been in poor health for some time and it was hoped the extraction of her teeth would prove beneficial. She entered the hospital here the night before her death. Mrs. Denny, about 48, and Mr. Denny were married three months ago. She had lived for a considerable time in Salome and at one time was a resident of Wickenburg. She was a nurse by training. In addition to the husband she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Maud B. SPEAR of San Bernardino, Calif., and it is thought, several children by a previous marriage. The SUN has received no information regarding funeral services at the time of going to press. The body was at the Wickenburg Chapel.

JOSEPH SAMUEL DENT of Judith Gap, Montana, died Thursday (Nov. 15), 2001 in Wickenburg. He was struck by a vehicle while crossing a busy street. He was 76. Joe Dent was born on the family ranch near Biddle, Mont., on Aug. 2, 1925. He was the son of Joseph and Gladys "Peggy" Dent. He attended grade school at Bowers Country School and graduated high school in Broadus. As a youngster, he herded sheep and broke horses. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 during World War II and served as a corpsman on the hospital ship USS Samaritan during major war campaigns throughout the South Pacific. He married DeLores Kjos on Aug. 12, 1945 and tried farming in Minnesota after the war until 1947 when they moved to Broadus, Mont., where he worked as a parts man for the Ford dealership. While working, Joe Dent studied in his spare time and without attending college, passed his CPA exams to enter the field of accounting. He moved to Miles City in 1950 and became a partner in the CPA firm Stallard, Cole and Dent. He was active in the Miles City community as a Boy Scout leader and a Little League baseball coach. He also served years on the school board and served as president of the Trinity Lutheran Church congregation. Joe Dent loved Montana and the rich western history of the region. He was a founding father of the Eastern Montana Historical Society and originated the spearheaded the effort to move and restore of the officer's quarters at Fort Keogh. The Fort Keogh museum now stands adjacent to the Range Riders Museum in Miles City. An avid student of Native American history, Joe Dent had many discussions with John Stands-in-Timber, the noted Cheyenne historian. He led the effort to place historical markers to commemorate Crook's battlefield on the Rosebud. Coming from a musical family, in his younger days Joe and his wife Dee enjoyed playing and singing for country dances around southeastern Montana. He retired from the accounting business in 1978. In retirement, he lived outside of Livingston, Mont., Wickenburg, Ariz., Spearfish, S.D., and Miles City and Billings, Mont., where he lived until the death of his wife DeLores in 1996.
In 1997, he married PENNY TIERNEY and moved to the Harlowton area, where he has lived until the time of his accident. Survivors include his wife Penny Dent of Judith Gap, Mont.; children Rick Dent and his wife Fidele of Bellingham, Wash., Jody Oliver and her husband Ed of Everett, Wash.; and Gary Dent and his wife Rene of Conrad, Mont.; grandchildren Gary Dent Jr. of Missoula,, Steve Dent of Butte, and Rachel and Sam Oliver of Everett, Wash. He also is survived by sisters Susan Nisley of Spearfish, S.D., and Vivian Meade of Auburn, Wash; numerous nephews and nieces; stepchildren Kathleen Schreiber and family of Howerton, Ken Sheperd and family of Bozeman, Karen Yant and family of Bozeman, and Kelly Peake of Billings. Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City. Burial will follow at the Custer County Cemetery. Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City is in charge of arrangements. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Harlowton Historical Society in Harlowton, Montana.

HELEN LYMAN “SIS” DeSHANE of Cottonwood, died Sept. 27, 1996, in Cottonwood. She was 72. Mrs. DeShane was born may 23, 1924 in Redbluff, Okla. She came to Arizona when she was a 3 month old infant and lived here the rest of her life. She was a graduate of Wickenburg High School. Survivors include her husband, Daniel DeShane of Cottonwood; daughter Linda Wissenbach of Cottonwood and Nelda Lance of Prescott; grandson Daniel Smith, Shawn Stiner and Frankie Reeves; granddaughter Lacy Petersen; brothers Edward Lyman of Cottonwood and Fred Lyman of congress, and four great-grandchildren.

DOROTHY DEVAULT, age 87, passed away June 20 in Wickenburg. She was born in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, on Dec. 8, 1919. As a young woman she and her sister were awarded scholarships to Heidelberg University in Germany; unfortunately they were for the fall semester of 1939 and the war intervened. She married DEANE JENNINGS, a traveling tunnel worker, in 1940 and had a son, Dennis in 1941. She followed Deane to the Town of Valdez, Alaska, in 1945. In 1949 she married JACK DEVAULT and worked alongside him starting and developing seven successful business enterprises until their retirement to Arizona in 1969. Dorothy became active in the Wickenburg art community and the Arizona Small Miners Association. She had a remarkable talent for the arts in many different media and true talent for teaching others how to enjoy art. Following Jack’s passing, she worked closely with Loren Burr, a Wickenburg stained glass artist and was his close companion until his passing. She is survived by her son Dennis Jennings and his wife Kiki of Fairbanks, Alaska. According to her wishes there are no services planned. There will be a celebration of her life, which will be scheduled for the winter months. In lieu of flowers or donations, friends are asked to stop and enjoy something beautiful. Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home.

HURTLES TO HIS DEATH WITH A SONG ON LIPS
Los Angeles Salesman, Father of Eight, Fails to Make Curve at Foot of Overpass at Terrific Rate of Speed
With a song on his lips and his new Dodge sedan humming smoothly at 75 miles per hour, BYRON S. DEXTER, age 36, Los Angeles, father of eight, topped the overpass south of Morristown a little after midnight Monday and zoomed down the incline with the speedometer indicator creeping still higher. The bankless turn at the foot of the ramp was under his wheels before he realized, his hubcap caught a post, and the sedan plunged from the road, turning over six or seven times before it finally came to a stop, far from the road. Dexter was dying as rescuers pulled him from the smashed car, and his passenger, Paul FILING, of Akron, Ohio, was hurt. An unidentified woman tourist tried to give DEXTER first aid while the ambulance was being summoned from Wickenburg and worked heroically to help him, but to no avail. He died, of a crushed chest and abdominal punctures shortly after researching the hospital. The passenger, miraculously, escaped with a few scalp wounds. DEXTER was a salesman of automobile accessories. Witnesses declared he had been traveling the dangerous curves between Wickenburg and Morristown at the same terrific rate of speed with which he tried to cross the overpass.
Body Taken To Los Angeles
Thursday evening, a brother, Byron DEXTER, and father-in-law, W. M. MAUCK, of Los Angeles, accompanied the body back to the coast, where funeral services will be held. The wife of the slain man, it was said, had undergone an operation the previous Saturday, and was unable to leave her bed. The only consoling fact in the sad tragedy was that DEXTER, three months ago had taken out several insurance policies, which were in effect at the time of his death, it was said and which will protect his large family. The injured passenger, FILING, was a rubber worker, from the Ohio city who had gone to Los Angeles to look for work, and had been unable to find it. DEXTER picked him up there to give him a lift on his way back home. The accident was investigated by Highway Patrolman Jack PETERSON who interviewed a motorist who stated that DEXTER had passed him "as though he was standing still", although the motorist was traveling at a rate of 50 miles per hour. No inquest was held.

DAVID DIAMOND, 43, of Shoals, Ind., and formerly of Wickenburg, went to be with the Lord on June 17, from complications of colon cancer. David and his twin sister, Donna, were born June 27, 1956 to the late Hendley, Sr. and Mallie Diamond, (of Shoals) in Whitesburg, Ky. He was born 16th of 19 children. The Diamond family moved to Wickenburg in June 1971, and David attended high school here. David was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, a member American Legion Post No. 61, VFW Post No. 8589 and Eagles Lodge No. 2442, all of Shoals. He attended the Church of Christ in Christian Union in Dover Hill, where came to know the Lord and was baptized in February 1999. One of David’s last wishes was to come and visit family and friends in Wickenburg, go to Box Canyon and fly a helicopter over the Grand Canyon. He was able to do all these things, flying back home on June 16 and then passing away on the 17th. Additional survivors include his twin sister Donna, of Shoals; five children, David Jr. of Florida, Kaylee, Evan, Moriah (all of Crane, Ind.) and Cole Alan (who celebrated his first birthday on June 4 by flying out to Arizona to see us!) of Shoals; his wife, Angie, and three step-children, Jackie, Tiffany and Dustin Holt; five brothers, John B. Daniel, Hendley, Jr., Alan Clay and Tony; eight sisters, Laura Ellen Conway, Rozella Sexton, Wilma Gerkin, Ginny Faye Amburgey, Ellen Barrett, Marty Reed and Donna Shelley. His sister Liz Marin and brother-in-laws Dan Martin and Floyd White and his many nieces and nephews are local. In additional to his father he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Russell and Sam; and two sisters, Clovie Diamond and Alpha Hampton. On the evening of June 16, David attended a “Relay For Life” fundraiser, in the midst of a tremendous thunderstorm. He was too weak to push his wheelchair around the track, but his sister Ellen and wife pushed David and Cole for on lap, during a break in the storm. David was wearing his Arizona Diamondbacks hat and even wore it to the hospital the next morning, where he later passed away. David fought the “good fight” for 18 months, and he would like for any contributions to be sent to Relay For Life, P.O. Box 772, Shoals, Ind., 47581, c/o Donna Shelley. All cards and letters are welcomed at this address also. A memorial service will be held the Wickenburg Country Club on July 11, from 7-9 p.m. for all old friend and family to celebrate the life of someone who was so dear to us.

Funeral services were held in Prescott last Saturday for MRS. CLARA B. DICKIE, 80, who died there November 13. Mrs. Dickie was a member of the family which once owned and operated the Vulture Mine here as well as mines in Bagdad and Oatman. She was the mother of the late Ernest and James DICKIE. A native of Noble County, Indiana, she moved to Arizona 50 years ago. Many Will Attend Rites Friday For ERNEST R. DICKIE
Many residents of Wickenburg are driving to Prescott today (Friday) to attend funeral services at 3 o'clock this afternoon for Ernest R. Dickie, former resident and mayor of Wickenburg, who passed away early Wednesday morning at his home in Bagdad following a heart attack. The funeral this afternoon is to be held in the Congregational Church with graveside services by the Masonic Lodge of Prescott.
Mr. Dickie, one of Arizona's best known mining men, was general manager and treasurer of the Bagdad Copper Corporation at the time of his death. He had served in that capacity for more than 10 years. He spent the previous decade in Wickenburg, in charge of mining at the Vulture Mine near here.
Born In Colorado
Mr. Dickie was born in Gold Hill, Colorado, a mining camp near, Cripple Creek, January 11, 1902. The family moved to Oatman, Ariz., when he was still a child. He attended school in Oatman and started in the mining business there. He later moved to Jerome where he was engaged in mining and also operated a store. From Jerome, Mr. Dickie came to Wickenburg in 1935 to become associated with the East Vulture Mining Co. which resumed operations at the Vulture Nine southwest of here. Mr. Dickie was superintendent at the Vulture when the Bagdad Copper Corporation was formed in 1944 and he became associated with that concern. He supervised its activities throughout the recent years of vast expansion and development.
Served As Mayor
He was elected mayor of Wickenburg in the Spring of 1944 and served one term in that capacity. He was Worshipful Master of the local Masonic lodge in 1944. Surviving are the widow and four children: Mrs. Charles HAMMON, Norma and Larry, all of Bagdad and Mrs. James DWIGHT of Tempe. His brother, James DICKIE, has been residing at Vulture Mine here for several years. His mother and several sisters also survive. Gravestone at Mountain View Cemetery

LEILA DIEU, born in Prosser, Wash., April 30, 1930, and died in Litchfield Park June 17. She is survived by her husband JOHN DIEU of Wickenburg. A long-time resident of the Wickenburg community, Mrs Dillard passed away last Thursday, March 12, in Phoenix, following a long illness. Mrs Dillard was born in El Paso, Texas, on April 24, 1889, and was married to Mr Dillard in August, 1909. They came to the Castle Hot Springs country and for many years had resided in Wickenburg and vicinity. REV. PATE OFFICIATED

Besides her husband and the two daughters here, Mrs Dillard is survived by four sons, Jack, of Williams; George, Jr., Manhattan, Nev., Edwin, Casa Grande, and Pfc Clifford, who is with the United States Occupational Forces in Germany. A third daughter, Mrs Francis Pfeil, resides in Montebello, Calif. Also surviving are two brothers, W. P. Forbes of Flint, Mich. Two surviving sisters are Mrs M. E. Harmon of Tipton, Calif., and Mrs A. F. Blackburn of Grand Island, Neb. There are 12 surviving grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Services Are Held For Mrs. DINGMAN
Funeral services for Mrs. N. R. DINGMAN were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Wickenburg Chapel with William GREGG, branch president of the LDS Church, officiating. Burial was in Wickenburg Cemetery. Mrs. Dingman died at 12:15 p.m. Monday of this week at her home on South Jackson Street. She had been ill for the past year and a half. Mrs. Dingman was born in Canada 78 years ago. She and her husband, who is her only survivor, moved to Wickenburg from San Diego 10 years ago.

Hold Rites For NELSON DINGMAN
Funeral services were held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning of this week for NELSON R. DINGMAN, a resident of Wickenburg for the past 11 years, who passed away early Friday morning, June 15, shortly after being admitted to Community Hospital. Mr. DINGMAN, owner of several residential properties in Wickenburg, came here from Canada where he had been a merchant. He had been in failing health for sometime past. Mrs. Dingman passed away here within the past year. The joint funeral services were conducted at the Wickenburg Chapel by Rev. Bill BARKER of the First Baptist Church and William GRIGG of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial followed in the Wickenburg Cemetery. As far as known, Mr. DINGMAN left no survivors.

Survivors include his daughters Jean Baum and Joan Flood of Osteen, Fla., Elizabeth Bishop of Schwenksville, Pa., and Lois Kloos of Wickenburg; a sister, Eleanor Price of New Hope, Pa.; a brother, Duane Doan of Yardley, Pa.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and good friend Carolyn Johnson of Wickenburg. Rites Conducted For FLORA DOBBS
Funeral services were conducted in the Wickenburg Chapel Tuesday afternoon for Miss FLORA J. DOBBS of Wittmann who died in Phoenix Tuesday of last week. The body was then shipped to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for burial. Dr. Charles S. POLING conducted the services. Miss Dobbs, who was born in England in 1870, had lived in Wittmann for the past 12 years after moving there from Pittsburgh. She had no relatives in this community.

JOHN ROBERT DOBBS Of Wittmann Died At Home There Saturday
JOHN ROBERT DOBBS, 77-year-old resident of Wittmann, passed away at his home there last Saturday night. The body was sent to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Thursday evening for burial after friends had viewed it in the Wickenburg Chapel Thursday afternoon. Mr. Dobbs, who was a retired bricklayer, had lived in the Wittmann and Morristown areas for the past nine years and in Arizona for about 11 years. He was born May 29, 1879, in Frostburg, Maryland. Surviving are a sister, Flora DOBBS, with whom he made his home in Wittmann and who this week was a patient in Community Hospital in Wickenburg. A son, John, also survives and a niece, Mrs. Esther TATTERF of Eugene, Oregon, who came here following her uncle's death.

BLANCHE E. DOCHTERMAN of Wickenburg died Sept. 18 in Sun City. She was 70. MRS. DOCHTERMAN was born March 2, 1926 in Keystone, Okla. She had lived in Arizona for the past 21 years. She and her husband were married Nov. 9, 1944. She worked for the Longview Fiber Co. in Longview, Colo., as a factory worker in her early years. Then Mrs. DOCHTERMAN worked in the packing and shipping department at the California Almond Company in Bakersfield, Calif. After that job, she worked at Perfect Photo, as a film developer. Mrs. Dochterman had a great love for growing, cactus and caring for wild desert animals. She also loved to crochet. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Charles "Bill" DOCHTERMAN of Wickenburg; brother Dale E. KERR of Lodi, Calif.; sister Olive M. SULLIVAN of Kelso, Wash.; and nephew Tom SULLIVAN of Oregon. Funeral services were held Tuesday (Sept. 24) at 10 a.m. at the Wickenburg Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Ed Wessling officiating. Private visitation was conducted for family members only. Interment was at the Wickenburg Cemetery. Brown's Wickenburg Funeral Home, Inc. handled all the arrangements.

Funeral services for MRS. SUSAN AMANDA DODSON, 77 years old, who died here Sunday following a heart attack, were held from the Presbyterian church at 8 o’clock Thursday morning. Mrs. Dodson, born in Georgia, February 20, 1860, came to Arizona in 1907 and resided in Yuma and Maricopa counties since. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. George WENTWORTH of Wickenburg, Mrs. C. L. He had been a carpenter most of his life and greenskeeper for the Bagdad Mesa View Golf Course for five years. Mrs. R. C. DONALDSON Called To Iowa By Her Father's Death
Mrs. R. C. (Sue) DONALDSON was called to Burlington, Iowa, last weekend by the sudden death of her father, GLENN H. TOPPING who passed away late Thursday evening following a heart attack. Mrs. Donaldson, a member of The SUN staff, left by plane at 1 a.m. Friday. Funeral services were held in Burlington last Sunday afternoon. Mr. TOPPING was 68 years of age.

DORRIS BABY DIED MONDAY IN PHOENIX
ERRA MAE DORRIS, infant daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Raymond DORRIS of Wickenburg, died in St. Joseph's Hospital, Phoenix, shortly after midnight Monday. The baby was born April 29 at Community Hospital here and was admitted to the local hospital for treatment last week. She was taken to St. Joseph's Monday.

Memorial services for CORRIS GENE DOSS, 42, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 at the Wickenburg Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow on Saturday, Dec. 29 in Gentry, Ark., before burial next to Gene's father, Corris Mallory Doss. Gene passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001. He was hospitalized in the Thunderbird Samaritan Medical Center in Glendale, for a period of three weeks following emergency surgery. Gene was born Aug. 8, 1959 in Siloam Springs, Ark. He attended high school in Gentry, where he played a trumpet in the Gentry Pioneer Marching Concert Band. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany for two years. Gene will be remembered most for his sense of humor, always smiling. He enjoyed fishing and loved his pets. He worked as a mechanic for most of his adult life. Gene was saved and baptized in 1975 after attending the Arkansas Baptist Assembly church camp. Loving survivors include his children, Corris Bradly Doss and Christina Gail Doss, both of Springdale, Ark.; his mother, Mary Coones of Congress; two sisters, Teresa Stewart of Owasso, Okla. and Regina Morris of Gentry, Ark.; one brother, Duane Doss of Gentry; grandparents S.E. and Marian Doss of Gentry; five nephews; and four nieces. Gene was preceded in death by his father, Corris Mallory Doss, in 1969.

DEATH TAKES BEN DOSSEY
Young Resident Here Since 1945 Summoned
In nearly two years as a resident of Wickenburg, BEN DOSSEY made many friends, all of whom were grieved at the news of his death last Saturday morning, January 18, in community Hospital here where he had been a patient since early in the month. His death was due largely to a kidney ailment, complicated by high blood pressure. Mr. Dossey was born December 26, 1916, in Moberly, Missouri, and was educated in the schools there. He later moved with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. C. DOSSEY, and sister, to Gary, Indiana, where he was employed as a bookkeeper with Gary bus lines. Coming to Wickenburg in April 1945, he was employed in a similar capacity by Hal Warner, consigned of the Texas Oil company in this area. Ill health forced him to give up work several weeks ago and his condition was serious when he was admitted to the hospital At her sons bedside when death came was Mrs. Dossey, who arrived the previous Monday from her home in Gary and stayed while here with Mr. and Mrs. PINNELL. The mother accompanied the body back to Moberly Sunday evening where funeral services were to be held Wednesday of this week. The parents and the sister are the only close survivors.

Our loving mother, grandma, sister, aunt and friend, SUE DOUGLAS was born on Feb. 17, 1936 in Glendale, Calif. She went to be with our Lord on Sept. 2 after fighting a very long battle of many ailments. Family was most important to Sue, but she also loved her “babies.” If you knew here, you would know her babies were her cats. She never had to go looking when one was gone another would show up at her doorstep. She also loved to watch baseball and when the Diamondbacks were playing we always knew the score. Speaking of scores, here’s her family line up. She is survived by her son Bret and grandchildren Joey, Bret, and Brandon; her daughter Tania, husband Mark and grandchildren Shane, Blake, and Luke; her brother Don and his wife Jeannie, and her brother Mike. Sue is now with our Creator and will always be remembered. Services were held at the Wenden Bible Church with burial in Wenden Cemetery. Arrangements were by David’s Desert Chapel Funeral Home.

AUSTIN DOUTHART Funeral Saturday
Funeral services for AUSTIN R. DOUTHART will be conducted in the Wickenburg Chapel at 6:30 p. m. tomorrow (Saturday) with the Rev. Robert JENKINS, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Douthart died in Community Hospital at 4 a. m. Wednesday afternoon an illness of two and one-half years. Born in Pratt, Kan., December 15, 1888, Mr. Doughart spent many years as an employee of the Emporia, Kan., telephone company. He moved to Wickenburg in 1946 and worked at the Monte Vista Ranch. He later moved to Topeka and returned again to Wickenburg in 1950. Surviving are the widow, Emma Cobb Douthart, to whom he was married in Emporia in 1922; one son, Robert of Wickenburg; and four daughters, Mrs. Lloyd WHITEHEAD of Wickenburg, Mrs. Inez MORRIS of Pratt, Kansas, Mrs. Susan GORE of Sawyer, Kansas, and Mrs. Georgia McCURDY of Marysville, Kansas.

Funeral services and burial for ANNE MARIE DOUTHIT, 45, were held Wednesday in Fresno, Calif. Mrs. Douthit died in Community Hospital last Saturday evening. Surviving is the husband, Lafayette DOUTHIT, a cook at the Texas Café. The Douthits had visited Wickenburg four times until last year when they decided to reside here permanently. Mrs. DOW Died In Prescott Sunday
MRS. ELIZABETH DOW, a resident of Wickenburg Since 1921 and one of the first licensed women barbers of the state, died in the Pioneers Home in Prescott Sunday at the age of 76. Funeral services were conducted in the Wickenburg Chapel Wednesday afternoon with Dr. Charles S. Poling, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial followed in the Wickenburg Cemetery. A native of Illinois, Mrs. Dow lived in St. Louis, Missouri, and spent two years Fairbanks Alaska before moving to Seligman about 50 years ago. It was there that she married HENRY C. DOW in 1915 and soon afterwards they moved to Congress Junction where they operated a barber shop. They moved to Wickenburg in 1921 and established a barber shop in the building now occupied by the Wickenburg Mine Supply. Mr. Dow died in 1931. The barber shop was closed soon after the war but Mrs. Dow continued to cut hair in her own home for several years. She became a resident of the Pioneers Home in Prescott two years ago. Only known survivors, according to her friends here are a step-sister and a cousin whose addresses are unknown.

CLARENCE DOWDY FALLS TO DEATH IN MINE
PRESCOTT, Nov. 9 -- CLARENCE DOWDY, 42, shaftman employed in a mine operated hy Harry K. GROVE near Chloride, fell 75 feet last week in a shaft and died Sunday morning. Only the barest details were learned by relatives here find by a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Roy DOWDY, who arrived this morning from Florence in response to a message. They understand the accident happened a week ago. A 14-year-old son of the accident victim. Clarence DOWDY, Jr., died June 28 in Kingman a few hours after a self-inflicted accidental gun shot wound while hunting near Chloride. Another tragedy in the fami1y occurred in 1921 when a half-brother of Dowdy, Elza PRUITT, was killed in an accident at the Hidden Treasure mine in the Groom Creek district Prescott. Survivors, besides the Florence brothers, are the widow, Pauline, who has been living at Chloride for a year; four children, Mrs. Edith CAMPOS of Prescott, and Jimmy VIOLET and Ray DOWDY of Chloride; two sisters, Mrs. Mae DOWDY of Prescott and Mrs. Vivian SYNES of Octave; brother, Mack DOWDY of Chloride; mother, Mrs. M. F. DOWDY, Octave and a half- brother, Bill ,Pruitt, Octave. Clarence DOWDY was horn in El Paso, Texas, but had lived in Arizona since childhood, the first 20 years Prescott, the rest of the time in *Octave, Kingman and Chloride.

ETHEL S. DRAKE of Wickenburg, died June 13 in Wickenburg. She was 87. Mrs. Drake was born Sept. 2, 1908 in E. Huntingdon, Penn. She had lived in Arizona for the past nine years, coming from California. Mrs. Drake was a retired teacher, having worked 33 years in California and Pennsylvania. She was a member of the Nuevo Lakeview Grange and the Women's Club, both in California. She enjoyed traveling around the country, and visited Canada and New Zealand as well. She also enjoyed crocheting, making afghans, cooking, entertaining, playing cards, and trout fishing in California. Survivors include her husband, Arthur C. Drake of Sun City; son and daughter-in-law Lee and Ellen Murdock of Wickenburg; son Ralph W. Murdock of La Pine, Ore.; six grandchildren, including Laura Kelly and Lyle Murdock, both of Laveen; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two nieces of California. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph W. Murdock, Sr. and Neal Engasser; one sister and two brothers. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 20 at 1 p.m. in Frey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, with interment at a later date in California. Pastor Bruce Baker will officiate. MRS. GLORIA D. DRANCHAK, age 77, passed away Jan. 2 at her residence in Wickenburg. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan 5, at 11 a.m. at Wickenburg Funeral Home with Fr. George Highberger as celebrant. Burial followed in the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. Gloria was born and raised in Binghamton, N.Y., and attended schools there graduating from St. Paul’s Catholic School in Binghamton, N.Y. She later began working for General Electric Co. in Johnson City, N.Y., where she met Eugene Dranchak. They were married April 12, 1958 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Binghamton and made their home there. They moved to Arizona in 1978 and later settling in Wickenburg in 1999. Gloria was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, who was admired for her courage and strength by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her unselfish, kind and giving ways. Gloria was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Dranchak Nov. 26, 2007. She is survived by daughters Eileen DRANCHAK-KALB of Mesa, Sue Peinkofer of Oregon, Catherin Maddi of New York; grandchildren Joseph, Jonathan and Michael Maddi, Jason and Rachael Peinkofer, Edward and Anna DRANCHAK-KALB; and two great-grandchildren Luke and Liam McMAHON-MADDI. Tragic Death of GEOFFREY DRAPER Shocks Friends
This entire community was saddened and shocked Friday morning of last week when GEOFFREY W. DRAPER, 18-year-old son of Mr. & Mrs. Raymond DRAPER, was instantly killed in a tragic traffic accident. The parent, traveling in one car, and Geoffrey, traveling in a new Austin Healey car which his parent had just given him as a high school graduation present, left their home on Prescott Highway early that morning to go to La Jolla, Calif., for a month’s vacation. At about 1 ½ miles west of town at 5:15 a.m. the boy’s car, which was in the lead, went out of control and into the path of an eastbound semi-truck. According to Highway Patrolman B. C. IRWIN who investigated the accident young Draper was driving went when he car went off the right hand side of the highway. When the car was turned back on the highway it slid sideways across the center line into the path of the big truck. Draper was killed instantly and his car was completely demolished. The Orange Empire truck, which was loaded with groceries, was also seriously damaged but its driver, Robert A. GESKA of Riverside, Calif., was uninjured. Bob DYAR of the highway patrol reserve, who was on duty, stopped the parent’s car before it reached the scene of the accident. Private graveside rites were conducted at 5 p.m. that same day in the Wickenburg Cemetery by Dr. Charles S. POLING. GEOFFREY DRAPER was born in Boston, Massachusetts, January 21, 1944. Later the family resided in New Hampshire and came here from there 13 years ago. He graduated from the Wickenburg Elementary School in 1958 and for the past four years attended the Southern Arizona School for Boys at Tucson from which he graduated May 18. At the later school he was voted the best all-around sportsman, was president of the Letter men’s Club and the Senior Class. He lettered in football, polo, softball, tennis and rifle marksmanship.

ROBERT FORREST DUKES passed away June 3, 2004, in Phoenix, Ariz., from liver complications. He was born December 9, 1947 in Glendale, Ariz. He is preceded in death by his father Melvin Dukes and Holly Ann Dukes. He is survived by his wife Terri Dukes; brothers Andy Dukes and Jim Dukes; daughters Carrie Worthcutt, Penny Clark, Whende Keatts, Hallie Dukes; son Garrett Dukes; nieces Tracy and Brandy; nephews Tyson and Courtney; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Wittmann Woman Is Traffic Victim
MRS. OPAL DUNAVANT, 28, of Wittmann was the victim of a pedestrian-auto accident on Highway 60-70 near Wittmann the night of February 28. Highway Patrolman Richard Shafer reported that Mrs. Dunavant, the mother of 10 children, was crossing a bridge when she was struck by a sedan driven by Dean T. Krueger, 20, of Victorville, Calif. Krueger, an airman, reported he applied his brakes when he saw the woman on the bridge but was unable to swerve because a truck was approaching in the other lane of traffic. The body was removed to Phoenix. Her husband, Robert, also survives.

Funeral Thursday For NORMAN DUNBAR
Hal WARNER flew to Los Angeles Wednesday to attend the funeral Thursday morning of his brother-in-law, NORMAN DUNBAR of that city, who died Monday following a heart attack. Mr. DUNBAR, head of Dunbar Enterprises, was 59 years of age. He was well known here where he had been a frequent visitor. Just recently Mr. & Mrs. DUNBAR bought acreage near the Wickenburg Country Club where they had planned to build a home in the near future. At the time of her husband's death, Mrs. Dunbar was visiting in Tucson with her daughter, Mrs. Leonard EVERETT and family, including her new grandson. Mr. Dunbar is survived by his wife, Ellena; a son, Calvin DUNBAR of Orinda, Calif., and two daughters, Mrs. EVERETT and Mrs. Robert THORNE of San Diego. Also surviving are his mother and a sister, living in Kittery, Maine, and six grandchildren.

JOYCE DUNCAN DUNKEL, age 71, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away on Oct. 10 in Sun City West. Graveside services were held at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery. Visitation was held at Wickenburg Funeral Home. Joyce was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to Maynard DUNCAN and Essie GOODYEAR DUNCAN. She came to Arizona as a child with the family, settling in Buckeye. Joyce married Ben DUNKEL, and they made their home in Buckeye later moving to Payson for a brief time, and settling in Wickenburg in the early 1980s. She was a homemaker and worked in the family business, Dunkel Electric, with her husband Ben for years. Joyce is survived by her husband Ben of Wickenburg; sons and daughters-in-law Ken and Ann CRAIG of Buckeye; Randall Scott and Kristi Dunkel of Mesa, Ariz.; Roger Dale and Diane Dunkel of Phoenix; Justin Miles "Corky" and Marie DUNKEL of Wickenburg; daughters and sons-in-law Cheri Jo and Craig STEVENS of Chambersburg, Pa.; and Chelli Sue and Sam ROBINSON of Goodyear; brothers Bob DUNCAN and wife Wanda of Buckeye and Jerry DUNCAN of Tonopah; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by parents Maynard and Essie Duncan, brothers Edward and Joe DUNCAN, sister Mary WORKMAN and grandchildren Brandy and Cassie DUNKEL. Arrangements under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home & Crematory.

DAVID C. DUNLOP of Yarnell passed away on Wednesday April 11 of cancer. He was 47. David was born in Detroit, Mich. on Sep. 13, 1953. He had lived in Colorado, Texas and Wisconsin before moving to Arizona in 1996. David is survived by his devoted wife, Tamlin Allbritten, who is an art therapist for Remuda Ranch. Other surviving family members are his loving mother, Dorothy DUNLOP of Berkley, Mich.; five sisters, Anne DUNLOP, Margaret Warner, Elizabeth DUMOCHELLE and Cynthia CHABIE, all from Detroit area, and Mary Grace Warner of Phoenix; and one brother, Joe DUNLOP of Charlotte, N.C. David was preceded in death by his father, John DUNLOP; and two brothers, John and Larry DUNLOP. David was put to rest on April 17, 2001 at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Paradise Valley. “David was a man who never lost faith. He will be missed…but he is home.”

NINA A. DURFEY of Wickenburg, died May 13 in Wickenburg. She was 74. Mrs. Durfey was born May 23, 1921 in Logan, Oklahoma. She had lived in Arizona for the past 12years. Mrs. Durfey was a retired nurse. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Mrs. DURFEY played a small role in the motion picture "Gone with the Wind". She was a gold prospector, owning various mines throughout her life. Survivors include a sister, Wanda WADE of Montana, and four brothers, James, Orval, and Marvin all of Washington, and Roy of South Dakota. Private cremation has been conducted. All arrangements were handled by Brown's Wickenburg Funeral Home.

STELLA M. DUTTON passed away in Oklahoma City, OK, on Saturday, April 30, at the home of her niece. She was born on May 19, 1917. She was a resident of Wickenburg for over 30 years. She leaves behind her niece, Leslee Reynolds, her nephew Randy Reynolds, and her grandchildren, Lauren and Conner Reynolds. She also is survived by niece, Leesa Gray, nephew, Ronald Winkler, and his wife Jill Winkler along with nephews and nieces, Chad Gray, Meagen Gray, Steve Winkler, Brian Winkler, Mike Winkler, Bill Poulos, and Darryl Poulos. She will be missed greatly.

A memorial service for STELLA MAUDE DUTTON will be 1:30 p.m. Friday (June 3) at St. Albans Episcopal Church, 367 West Yavapai in Wickenburg, with the Rev. Dan Gerrard officiating. Stella's wishes were to come home to Wickenburg. She passed away on April 30, 2005 in Oklahoma City, Okla. from congestive heart failure. Stella was preceded in death by her beloved husband Hurbert "Hub" Dutton and her only son Larry, who passed away at age nine. Stella was born in Garber, Okla. on May 19, 1917. She and her husband Hub were long time residents of Wickenburg. Hub and Stella loved Wickenburg and the people. Stella lived to be 87 years of age. She was staying with her only living niece at her time of passing, Leslee "Winkler" Reynolds of Oklahoma City, Okla. Stella's strong will was always to go home. Her mind was set in stone to get back to Wickenburg, even in her final days. On June 3 we will bring her home.

Arkansas Man Is Killed When Hit By Passing Truck
EARL DYER, 47, of Mineral Springs, Arkansas, was instantly killed in a two-truck accident at 12:30 p. m. Monday on Highway 60-70 19 miles west of Wickenburg. At the inquest held before Coroner R. L. WESTALL Tuesday afternoon, a jury of six men found that Dyer’s death “was caused by the impact of truck No. 1 driven by John W. HAMLING striking the deceased as it grazed the side of the deceased’s vehicle.”
On the jury were M. I. ROOT, Bob ROLLER, Ted DeVRIES, Ben LUKL, Harold P. SULLIVAN and Louis RAMIREZ. Frank STANLIS appeared for the county and Chester J. PETERSON of Phoenix appeared as attorney for Hamling. Following the inquest, Hamling, 19-year-old Huntington Park, California, truck driver, entered pleas of not guilty before Judge Westall to charges of failure to control his vehicle and failure to have a log book. Judge Westall set bond at $200, which was paid by his employer, and set Hamling’s hearing for 1 p. m. October 18. Highway patrolman Robert TSHUDY related events concerning the accident as follows. Dyer, 47, his son Joe, 20 both of Mineral Springs, Ark., and a friend, David WALKER, 16, of San Diego, Calif., were going west in a large truck-trailer filled with dressed chickens. At a point 19 miles west of Wickenburg, Dyer, who was driving, stopped the truck on the highway to be relieved as driver by his son. After he got out of the truck cab, Dyer walked along the highway side of the truck to the trailer to check the refrigeration system. At that time John W. HAMLING, 19, of Huntington Park, Calif., and also headed west, passed the Dyer truck so closely that the two trucks touched and Dyer was hit and thrown under the truck. He was instantly killed. Patrolman TSHUDY cited Hamling for failure to control his vehicle and also for failure to have a log book

Funeral Thursday For Mrs. Dykema
Rev. James WILSON, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, conducted funeral services in the Wickenburg Chapel at 11 a. m. Thursday for MRS. ALICE DYKEMA, 78-year-old local resident who died at Community Hospital at 2:55 p. m. last Saturday. Burial was in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mrs. Dykema was born March 10, 1883, in York Springs, Pennsylvania. She and her late husband came to Wickenburg about 15 years ago. Mrs. Dykema died here in 1950. Only survivor is a sister, Mrs. Joseph H. RANEY of Carmel, California, who is here now. Mrs. Dykema resided at 195 West Apache Street.

DEATH COMES TO WILLIAM DYKEMA
WILLIAM P. DYKEMA, resident of Wickenburg for the past five years and widely known in this section of the state for may years as an engineer and mining man, passed away Sunday morning, July 16, at community Hospital. He had been in ill health for a number of years. Born in Grand Rapids, Mich., December 28, 1889, Mr. Dykema was graduated from Michigan College of Mines at Houghton as a mining engineer. Soon thereafter he came to Arizona where he was connected with mining activities at Bagdad and Octave. Later he opened an assay office in Salome. While located in that Yuma county community he was married to Alice Dill, a winter visitor from Pennsylvania. She is the only close survivor. Mr. Dykema gave up mining entirely in 1914 and went with the U. S. Government as a petroleum engineer. He built gasoline plants in Texas following his service with the government. Funeral services were held Monday evening of this week at 7 o'clock from the Wickenburg Chapel with the Rev. Truman Boyd, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial followed in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mrs. Dykema's sister, Mrs. J. H. Raney, and Mr. Raney came to Wickenburg from their home in Los Angeles about a week prior to Mr. Dykema's death and are continuing their visit here. The Dykema home for the last past two years has been in a rental house on the H. E. Dunkin property in Fox Addition.
