GEORGE -
Seeking any information on John George, born 1846-1855 in Virginia. In the 1910 census it
lists him as being born in Va., his father from England and his mother from Va. He is residing in
Moore County, North Carolina. In the 1920 census it lists him from Va., his father from Va. and
his mother from Va. On both marriage licenses it lists him from Va., but mother and father
unknown, as does his death certificate from 1929. All I have are stories from his earlier life to
go on. His father died first and then his mother dies after a long illness. On the day that his
mother is buried, he enlists in the Army. He lived in either Alabama and/or Georgia for a short
time before coming to North Carolina where he started out there as a woodcutter. He had a
girlfriend/wife that died in childbirth in 1901. Her name was Velener/Valener or something like
that. His occupation in N.C. was farmer.

ANGUS, MARTIN, RUCKER -
I am trying to find out what happened to William Angus and his spouse Elizabeth
Martin Angus after 1806. Most descendants and relatives of William Angus
believe that, that he died in transit from Lincastle, Amherst County, Virginia to Giles County,
Tennessee BET 1806-1809 with his son James Angus and other familiy members except,
Elizabth Martin Angus and their youngest son William Angus, Jr. There are
others that believe he died prior to 1806 in Virginia. I have not been able to find records
proving one or the other.
The paper trail for both William Angus and Elizabeth
Martin Angus seems to vanished after 1806. There are however, records available
showing that William Angus, Jr., remained in Amherst County, Virginia until his death
after 1870.
Most researchers believe William Angus was born ABT 1750 in Galloway,
Scotland, and he immigrated to America in 1774; and traveling on to Lincastle, Amherst County,
Virginia to settle down and marrried Elizabeth Martin BET 1774-1775. She was the daughter
of John Martin and Millie Rucker, born in Amherst County, Virginia ABT 1754.
Any information regarding this Amherst County, Virginia family will be greatly appreciated.

appears in the tax records of Russell Co around 1791. He married Martha Lester around

an affidavit dictated from William Drake stating that his Grandfathers name was Samuel. He
also states the his father was bonded out as a young man. This would go along with some history I
heard on two Drake boys that where bonded out one to a Price and the other to a
Kinkaid I think. I realize this is long. I do apologize. My question or plea....Could you

DUBOSE, STOKES -
I hope you can help me. I have been trying unsuccessfully for several years to locate information
on my great-grandfather, Thomas Edward Stokes. This is what I know: He was born on July
30-31, 1881 somewhere in Virginia.
According to my grandmother (and her father died when she
was only 2!) he was from Virginia, but his parents died when he was a child and he was taken in
by his grandparents. She thinks he was from the Newport News/Norfolk area. He had an older
sister. . .perhaps named Clara who married a Dubose.
I know where and when he died --
in Savannah, Georgia on April 28, 1921. His marriage license, obituary, and death certificate are
not giving me any leads. I would love to request a birth certificate, but Virginia requires me to
give his parents' names, and I don't know them. Since the 1890 census burned, I can't find him
there.
My question is, does anyone have any suggestions of where I can go next, or how I can
get around the parents' name thing and request a birth certificate? I really think the birth
certificate is what I need to get my hands on! Thanks!

they of Scotish or English origin? The Carter Glass side has been researched by a Mr.
