SORENSEN, SORENSON -
Like a million other genealogists, I am trying to find the proverbial needle in my family haystack. I have a great uncle that must have been part nomad. He was born in Denmark, 31 August 1889. I am certain his name probably was NOT Peter when he immigrated at age 2, but more than likely Pedder, Peder or Petter. The surname was Sorensen ... which I have found incorrectly listed in several of his family member's records as SorensOn. Uncle Pete's date of death was March 5 or 6th, 1956, again I am assuming in Virginia. Anyway, to make a long story longer, Uncle Pete had a garage partnership in Chicago in the 20s. He sold out his portion of the business just prior to the Depression (I think) and moved to Texas, where he was reported to have been a deputy sheriff or a sheriff around the San Antonio area...so what am I doing in Virginia? A helpful person found Uncle Pete's social security listing in the SSDI. (Now WHY didn't I think of that?) The number was obtained in Texas, BUT his last residence was listed as Virginia. I don't have a clue WHERE in Virginia. The information indicates that Uncle Pete had no children. His wife's name was Mary, and supposedly they were married in or around the Chicago area. So far everything I have turned up has yielded only rumor ... nothing concrete ... and since I am probably the only person looking for Uncle Pete, I doubt there would be anything listed in the way of queries. I would appreciate any information, suggestions, clues ... etc ... to find this galloping relative! Thank you! Judi Sorensen Antonson, Pueblo, Colorado

I am looking for a Charles and Ann Taylor who lived in Virginia prior to 1723/33. They had a daughter named K/Catherine Taylor who married a William Robinson/ Robertson who died about 1723/33. K/Catherine and William had five known children named: David; Ann; Frances; Joseph; and William Robinson/ Robertson. After the death of William Robinson, Catherine {Taylor} married John Rector. This is well documented through a chancery suit which was filed in Fauquier County, Va. in 1794 by son David Robinson/ Robertson. The family today goes by Robinson. Charles Taylor's mother is thought to be a Hannah Taylor.
Also looking for information on Maximillian Robinson, grandson of William Robinson and son of Joseph Robinson. Maximillian Robinson was a veteran of the Rev. JACKSON, LEWIS, SMITH -
Henry Jackson, of St. Andrew's Parish, Brunswick County, VA., gifted his properties to his children: to Mark, in 1758; to Henry, Jr., in 1760; to Hannah Jackson Smith (and grandson Henry Smith) in 1763; and to Sandal Jackson Lewis (my gggggrandmother) in 1764. There is no record of Henry Jackson Sr., or of his wife Mary, in St. Andrew's Parish after 1779- when he would have been approximately 60 years of age. There are records of several public claims for a Henry Jackson, from Brunswick County, during the Revolution- but no way to distinguish if one may be my ancestor. Henry Jackson, Jr., resided in Orange County (VA?) It is my hope that perhaps Henry and Mary Jackson lived with one of their children. Any information would be most welcome and appreciated. I believe that he was a brother to Andrew YEARGAIN, early Methodist Circuit rider. I descend from Samuel and his first wife Anne BOOTH. They married in 1752 in Chesterfield County, Va. It appears that Anne was a granddaughter of Thomas HARRIS who d. in Henrico co., Va. in the 1720s, and his wife, Mary JEFFERSON. The surnames FITZPATRICK and OSBORN married into family of Thomas HARRIS and are witnesses to YEARGAIN/BOOTH document. Thanks. Bebe Fox

MOURNING -
I am searching for ancestors of William R. Mourning, b. 8/30/1822, from VA. William R., his sister Elizabeth (Betsy), b. abt. 1818, and brother John moved from Virginia to Lincoln CO, MO (1840-50 census records and various public records in Lincoln Co.) and William R. and his family eventually moved to Calhoun then Jersey Co. IL. William R. was a school teacher. It is known that William R. and his son Richard (Dick) made a trip from MO to VA shortly before the Civil War to see William's father who was in ill health at that time. We have no record of the name of the father nor where he lived. One birth certification for William's daughter Sally states that her father was from Richmond, VA but this may not have been the family home. Family tradition is that the Mourning family came into Jamestown area and there is record of a Giles Mourning and family in Gloucester Co in 1666. There are early census records of Mournings in Va and NC. There is a family descended from a Roger Mourning who came from Ireland into Philadelphia prior to Revolutionary War then moved into western VA. This line was well documented by Kenneth Waddell and there is no connection on the American continent. Martha P. Mourning, Binghamton, NY

I am trying to locate documented information on the following: My Great Great Grandmother Martha Herndon who married William Watkins. The info I am needing is that Martha Herndon was indeed the daughter of Edward Herndon and Mary Waller. They had 8 children as to what I understand. The other info I need is that Edward Herndon was indeed the son of William Herndon and Catherine Digges - Edward being born 1678 in New Kent, Co, VA and married Catherine Digges the daughter of Gov. Digges of VA and Elizabeth Page. Thus far no one has produced on the Herndon Line the concrete and complete info on the above info. Court records report two bastard children by a married man named Edward Allgood - Lucretia & Willoughby b. 1730. Her brother Henry Fann signed documents accepting the financial resonsibility for the children. this is the connection to the family.; and 5. There were surely other children whose names were lost to fading or crumbling pages when the old register was copied during the late 1700s. I believe one may have been William. If William was not his name, then a son whose name is unknown who was the father of John, Jesse & William Fann and probably others.
Jesse Fann b. c1735 Richmond Co, VA; d. c1815-19 Clarke Co, GA. m. Wilmouth ____ in VA. Jesse, John, William & Willoughby (son of Judith) migrated through southern Virginia and entered Warren Co, NC about 1778. Willoughby died there and John moved to Orange Co, NC where he died in 1797. BURK, CHANDLER, SHARP, TALKINGTON, TATE -
I am looking for information on James N. Sharp and Shadrick Sharp of Hempstead &/or Howard county Arkansas and Louisa Co. VA. Or for any Sharps in Louisa Co. VA. My great-great-grandfather was James N. Sharp b. Dec 1810 in VA. He moved from VA near Richmond (Louisa Co. most likely) to Hempstead Co. AR around 1835. He was married and widowed before 1850 as he is listed on the 1850 Hempstead Co AR census with the following children: (Ages and names for children of this marriage taken from 1850 census records for Hempstead County, Arkansas) Sheddrick Born: About 1839, Arkansas; Mary Born: About 1842, Arkansas; Elizabeth Born: About 1844, Arkansas; and Robert J. Sharp Born: 25 December 1847, Arkansas. His first wife may or may not have been Mary Talkington. A James Sharp married a Mary Talkington in Hempstead Co in 1834. He may have married in VA before moving to AR. James N. apparently had a brother named William Alpheus (James had a grandson named James Alphus). William Alpheus was born abt 1808 in Louisa Co. VA. According to that family Wm. A's father was Henry, an Irish immigrant. Also according to WA's family Wm settled in Sevier Co in 1835. Sevier Co lies adjacent to Hempstead Co. I believe that William Alpheus was James N's brother but believe that his father's was probably not an Irish immigrant, but Henry may have been part of his Christian name. James N. remarried in 1852 to Lucinda Chandler and they had the following children: Sarah; Permely "Mealie" Born: 1853, Died: 1931, Buried: 1931, Saline Cemetery, Howard County, Arkansas, Married: Thomas Franklin Burk, (1859-1925); John William Born: 1868; and James Henry Sharp Born: 9 January 1869, Arkansas or Virginia, Died: 6 February 1942, Howard County, Arkansas Buried: Bissell Chapel Cemetery Married: Martha Jane Tate, (1871-1948). James N. is nowhere to be found on the 1860 census for Hempstead or Pike Co. AR. He and Shadrick are found listed on the 1860 Virginia Census Index. With James N. residing at Thompsons Crossroads and Shadrick at Fredericks Hall P. O. in Louisa Co. VA. Family history state that James N. did return to VA, he may even have married Lucinda there (her family resided in Pike Co AR in 1860). Family history also states that their son James Henry was born there. According to the 1860 VA census index, the following Sharps were living in Louisa Co. VA in 1860: America A. -- Shannon Hill P. O.; Elizabeth -- Fredericks Hall P. O.; Elizabeth F. -- Thompson's Crossroads; James N. -- Thompson's Crossroads; M. D. -- Fredericks Hall P. O.; Martin -- Amblers Mill; & Jackson; Mary E -- Shannon Hill P. O.; Michael J. -- Fredericks Hall P. O.; Robert J. - -Fredericks Hall P. O.; Sarah -- Fredericks Hall P. O.; Shadrick -- Fredericks Hall P. O.; Thomas -- Fredericks Hall P. O.; William -- Fredericks Hall P. O.; William N. -- Jackson P. O.. Any information on the Sharps of Louisa Co Va would be greatly appreciated. My local genealogy library does not have the 1860 Louisa Co. VA census and the suspense is killing me.
