George Abram Sutphin, 82, of Floyd,
went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 1, 2014.
George was a longtime employee of
Herzog Construction where he helped build multiple railroad transit systems
across the United States including the Metrolink Mass Transit System in Los
Angeles, Calif.
He loved life and his family and
was always willing to help anyone he encountered. He will be greatly missed
on this earth by his family but is finally at rest and healthy and whole
with his Father in Heaven.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia
Sutphin; his daughter, Vanessa Mays of Christiansburg, Va.; his son and
daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Nacol Sutphin of Roanoke, Va. Also surviving
are grandchildren, Joli Huyhn and husband, Thai Huyhn, of Christiansburg,
Va., Kim Wade of Narrows, Va.; and great-grandchildren, Emma King and Noah
Sutphin. He has one surviving brother, Wilton Sutphin of Floyd.
Funeral Services will be conducted
at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel
with the Reverend Roy Turpin officiating. Interment will follow in the

memorial contributions be made to Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren,
3883 Alum Ridge Road, N.W., Floyd, VA 24091, or the Floyd County Humane
Society, P.O. Box 862, Floyd, VA 24091. Condolences to the family may be
made at www.gardnerfuneralhomefloyd.com.The family is being served by
Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd.
Sylvia Goad Sutphin 88 of Floyd,
Va. left for her journey to heaven on Saturday, February 10, 2018 after a
long battle with Alzheimer's.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years George Sutphin.
She was the proud mother of her two children, her daughter Vanessa Sutphin
Mays of Christiansburg, Va., and son Kenneth Sutphin and wife Nacol of
Roanoke, Va. Three grandchildren, Kimberly Wade, Joli Wade Huynh and
husband Thai, Noah Sutphin, and great granddaughter Emma King.
She was the best mother anyone could ever ask for. She was loved and will
be missed immensely. A sincere thank you goes to the nurses and staff of
English Meadows Nursing Home. A special thank you goes to my favorite
Medi-Home and Hospice nurses Robin, Kim and Wendy. In lieu of flowers
donations may be made to the Floyd County Rescue Squad. Thank you to
Gardner Funeral Home who has always provided us with excellent service.
