CASCADE, VA - Paul Guy Weddle, 81, of 5648 Cascade Mill Road in Cascade, Va., passed away Monday evening, June 10, 2013, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. A funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens in Danville, Va. Mr. Weddle was born September 18, 1931, in Floyd County, Va., son of the late Newton and Treva Boone Weddle. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Willis Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Weddle was a retired tobacco farmer. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beatrice Taylor Weddle I, of the home; son, Gary Weddle and wife, Robin, of Danville, Va.; four daughters, Paula Barrow of Cascade, Va., Gail Riley and husband, Ray, of Mt. Airy, N.C., Sharon Hopkins and Barbara Wade and husband, Mike, both of Cascade; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe Weddle of Cascade, Va., Ray Weddle of Floyd, Va., and Rudy Weddle of South Carolina. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four sisters, Evelyna Williams, Fern Kidd, Margaret Largen and Ruby Weddle; and his son-in-law, Wayne Barrow.

EDEN - Isaac “Pops'' Perry Weddle, 97, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at the Brian Center Nursing Home, Eden. 

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2000, in Overlook Cemetery. 

He was born in Floyd County, Va., Nov. 8, 1902, to Abner and Cora Weddle. On Oct. 3, 1925, he married Edna Alcorn, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nadine Weddle.

Survivors are sons, Max and wife, Jean, James “Buddy'' and wife, Louise, Clifford and wife, Janet of Eden; seven grandchildren, Libby Weddle McKinney of Anchorage, Alaska, Joey Weddle of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Mary Weddle Collins of Garden City, S.C., and Dr. Diann Weddle of Round Lake Beach, Ill.; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Kate Weddle Ratliff of Floyd, Va.

Kate Ruth Weddle Ratliff, 101 of Floyd, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 5, 2013.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Ratliff; her parents, Abner & Cora Weddle; one sister, Pernie Weddle; three brothers, Claude Weddle, Newton Weddle, and Isaac Weddle.

Surviving to treasure her precious memories are her son, Wayne Ratliff of Roanoke and her daughter and son-in-law, Dove and David Robertson of Christiansburg.

Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jimmy and Deanna Robertson of Christiansburg, and Chrystal and Jeff Havens of Roanoke. Kate leaves five great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Brendan and Camden Robertson and Brooke, Ryan, and soon to come baby Havens.

Kate was an active member of Topeco Church of the Brethren for 89 years and taught Sunday School for 30 years. Also, she was appointed deaconess in 1942. Kate loved working on church history and wrote a book on the Weddle History. She was a member of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution and the National Society of Colonial Dames of the XVII Century. Kate was a devoted wife and mother, and a wonderful friend to many.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at the Topeco Church of the Brethren with Pastor Mike Varner officiating. 

Interment to follow at the Weddle Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel.

Special thanks to Skyline Manor Nursing and Rehab in Floyd for their excellent care of our mother. Also, we appreciate New River Valley Medical Center in Radford for all their kindness and care of Mom.

DODGE CITY, KS -- Pearl Weddle Heaston, 86, formerly of Bloom, KS died on July 25,1970 at Smith Center, KS after a long illness. 

She was born Oct. 30, 1883 in Obrine Co., Iowa, she was married to Lemon Weddle on Dec.15, 1903 at Larned, KS. He died Feb. 25, 1936. She married Ralph R. Heaston on Jan. 31, 1941 at Modesto, Calif. He died June 19, 1966.

She had lived at Bloom most of her life and had moved to Smith Center in 1966.

She was a member of the Church of the Brethren.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. W. E. Lee, of Smith Center, KS; son, Orvis of Watsonville, Calif; step-daughter Nellie Miller of Lincoln, Neb and a step-son, Alan Heaston of Modesto, Calif; brother, Stanley Martin of Watsonville, Calif; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and four step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.

MINNEOLA - Walter A. Weddle, 95, died April 12, 2007, at Minneola Long Term Care Unit.

He was born Feb. 2, 1912, near Bloom, the son of Charley C. and Libbie Hylton Weddle. He graduated from McPherson College in 1935. A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer.
He belonged to Minneola United Methodist Church, served on the Bloom Co-Op Board, Ford County Farm Bureau Board, Wheat Growers Association Board and the Minneola Credit Union Board.

On Aug. 19, 1934, he married Louida Merle Fisher in Fruitland, Idaho. She died Jan. 4, 2004.

Survivors include: two sons, Marvin, Wichita, and LeRoy, McPherson; a daughter, Lela Mae Layman, Adel, Iowa; six grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard and Herman.

Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City.

MINNEOLA, KS -- Leonard Monroe Weddle, 82, died Feb.24,2000 at Minneola District Hospital, Minneola, Ks. 

He was born on May 8, 1917 to Charlie and Libbie (Hylton) Weddle, on a farm near Bloom, Ks. He married Waneta Fern Clevenger on June 1,1937. She survives.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Minneola, KS. He worked as a farmer and stockman and served as the County Farm Bureau President as director and was elected to serve on the Kansas Farm Bureau State Board, he was also appointed to serve on the Kansas State Wheat Commission.

Survivors include one son, Terry (Sharon) Weddle of Bloom, KS and one daughter, Jeanette Besthorn of Garden City, KS; one brother, Walter Weddle of Minneola, KS; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Herman Weddle.

Services were held at United Methodist Church of Minneola, KS with Rev. Kip Ryherd presiding. Graveside service at Maple Grove, Greencrest Cemetery, Dodge City, KS.

Odom, Toy Mae (nee Weddle) on Monday, July 23, 2007. Beloved wife of Ed Odom; Dear mother of Cathy (Walter) Frear, Ted Odom, Lauri (Joe) Edles, Sandra (John) Meador, Patrick (Andrea) Odom, and Karop (Marilyn) Bavougian; Dear grandmother of Erin (Todd), Matt, Blake (Jamie), Brock, Marita, Catalino, Cortez, Finn, Ayla, Derwydd, Peter, Elanor, and Rose; Dear great-grandmother of Abigail; Dear sister of Betty (Roy) Ramsey; Dear aunt, cousin, and friend to many.

At age 21, Toy and her husband Ed, along with their 6-month-old daughter Cathy, became house parents for 12 teenage boys at David and Margaret Children's Home in La Verne, California. Four years later this experience launched Ed's career as the executive director of three child welfare organizations operated by the United Methodist Church. Over the next 40 years, Toy was an active partner in Ed's work. Although she was never employed by the organizations, Toy provided constant love and support for her husband's work, and for the children they served. One of her lasting legacies was an annual Christmas dinner for the young residents and staff of the homes. Toy planned for weeks to execute these festive banquets, knowing that holidays are often difficult for children living away from their families. She wanted each child to feel the magic and wonder of the Christmas season. At the same time that she supported Ed's mission, she nurtured and guided the couple's five children and participated in many community organizations.

Toy was a member of the St. Louis Community Choir for more than 25 years, and an active member of Webster Hills United Methodist Church for 31 years. She was a devoted student of the Holy Bible, hosting weekly Bible study meetings in their home for many years. She has made a difference in the lives of countless people, and for that she will be truly missed.

Services: Memorial service will Saturday, July 28, 10:30 a.m. at Webster Hills United Methodist Church.
