1. Dickerson, Wigington I	Parents: Reed & Susannah (unknown) Dickerson. Note: Re: Wigington’s parents Susannah and Reed had 1 child - Wigington Dickerson. Proof of this was originally found by "Ole Clyde" Maxey in the Montgomery County, Va Court House in Christiansburg, and I followed up on this when I visited there in June 2003. The following information was located: Court Order Book 19 Page 94 - 1816-1817 On the motion of Susannah Dickenson widow of Reed Dickenson dec'd of the County of Montgomery and State of Virginia.  It is ordered to be Certified to the paymaster General of the United States, that it was Proven in court by the oath of a respectable witness that he was present at the time that they said that Susannah Dickenson was married to Reed Dickenson, something upward of seven years ago, and it was further proven to the Court by the oath of Wilson Oliver a respectable witness that he marched in company with the said Reed Dickenson from the County of Montgomery Virginia to Norfolk in the service of the United States in the month of July 1814, both being privates in the Company of Captain James Hoge, and that the said Reed Dickenson departed this life on the 15th of October, 1814 at Norfolk while in the service of the United States. It is further ordered to be certified that the said Susannah Dickenson has one male child named Wiggington who was Six years old the first day of last March and it further appears that the said Sussannah(sic) Dickenson is still a widow - all which facts appeared by respectable evidence. Court Order Book 20 1817-1819 Page 172-"Ordered that the overseers of the Poor bind Wigton(sic) Dickerson orphan of Reed Dickerson dec'd to Elijah Dickerson according to law" (Note: The law is such that Where the estate of the orphan be so small value that no person will educate and maintain him for the profits thereof, such orphan shall be bound apprentice, every male to some tradesman, merchant, mariner, or other person approved by the court until the age of 21.  Females were similarly bound but to age 18. from Barbara Stanley) I have no proof of who are the parents of Reed Dickerson. Webb 2/2003 _Elder James M. Dickerson, son of Floyd and Almeda (Webb) Dickerson, was born October 12, 1870, in Floyd County, Virginia, passed away at the home of his son Pierce Dickerson, in Richmond, Va., February 5, 1949, making his stay on earth 78 years, 3 months and 3 days. _Elder Dickerson was twice married, in his early age, he married Miss Julia Culler. To this union were born two children, a son died in infancy, a daughter, Mrs. Mattie Quesinberry, wife of Deacon Heath Quesinberry, who possesses the likeness of her father. After the death of his first companion, he later married Mrs. Ally Ann (Slusher) Albright. One son, Mr. Pierce Dickerson of Richmond, Va., survives this union. This companion departed August 31, 1943. _Elder Dickerson joined the Primitive Baptist Church at Maple Shape October 8, 1899, baptized by Elder F. P. Branscome.  He was ordained to the gospel ministry July 9, 1909.

James Matthew Dickerson James Matthew Dickerson, 81 years, of Port Deposit, MD, died Saturday, January 10, 2004, at Harford Memorial Hospital, Havre de Grace, MD. Born on November 30, 1922, in Big Farm, WVA, he was a son of the late Earnest E. Dickerson and Susie Victoria Keene Dickerson. Mr. Dickerson served in the U.S. Army from 1948 until 1951. He was employed at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, MD in the Water & Heating Plant, and retired in 1987. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, Port Deposit, MD, and the Wednesday Morning Bowling League at Harford Lanes, Aberdeen, MD. Mr. Dickerson is survived by his wife, Marcia Roberta "Peggy" Kubler Dickerson, Port Deposit, MD. Mr. and Mrs. Dickerson have been married 43 years. He is also survived by two sons, David Murphy, Rhodesdale, MD, and Roger Lee Dickerson, Port Deposit, MD; three daughters, Pauline M. Clow, Hastings, MI, Nancy J. Greene, Perryville, MD, and Mary E. Sanchez, Port Deposit, MD; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three brothers, William Dickerson, Darlington, MD, Ernest J. Dickerson, Port Deposit, MD, and Robert L. Dickerson, Milford, NH; and one sister, Edith Marie Sherwood, Ridgely, MD. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dickerson was preceded in death by his son, Glenn A. Murphy; brother, Richard E. Dickerson; and two sisters, Mary Dickerson and Shirley Rhodes. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2004, 12 Noon, at Pleasant View Baptist Church, Port Deposit, MD, where visitation starts at 10:00 AM. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David and Opal Dickerson, Nathalie; two daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and Hampton Vest, Edna Mae and James Lee Sheppard, all of Check; one brother, Jesse Worrell, Shawsville; eight sisters, Alberta Kelly, Princeton, W.Va., Clara Mae Hale, Christiansburg, Ocie Conner, Shawsville, Ethel Mc Peak, Pilot, Bessie Stevens, Elliston, Dorothy Keaton, Pipestem, W.Va., Willie Hill, Salem, and Mildred Barnett, Bradenton, Fla.; four sisters-in-law, Monnie St Clair, Opal Doss, Hattie Aaron and Edna Worrell; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 1995, at the Crockett Springs United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. David Dickerson, the Rev. Tom Oliphant and the Rev. DICKERSON, 84 of Chestertown, MD, died December 12, 2009 at Chester River Manor. Mr. Dickerson was born on June 30, 1925 in Meadows of Dan, VA, son of the late George Clement Dickerson and Virginia Lacy Belcher. His early years were spent on his parent’s farm near Mabry Mill on the Blue Ridge Parkway. In 1943 he entered in the Army, serving in the European Theatre with the Transportation Corp and was honorably discharged in 1945 as Corporal. He then moved to Great Oak Farm in Kent County, MD with his parents and in 1949 he married Margaret Hatcherson. Mr. Dickerson was a plumber-electrician for 37 years with Baldwin Electric, retiring in 1992. For the past 54 years Fairlee, MD was his home. Throughout his life he was active in farming and enjoyed boating around Langford Bay. He could repair just about anything and was fond of Cricket, a Welsh Mountain pony he and his family had for 37 years. Mr. Dickerson was a member of Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post 36 and a past member of V.F.W. Post 652. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Margaret Dickerson; 2 daughters; Debbie Radke of Timonium, MD and Teri Batchelor, and her husband Ted of Fairlee, MD; 2 sisters; Clara Pratt of Manassas, VA and Ruth Thomas of Gainesville, VA, and a brother Marvin Dickerson of Fairfax, VA; 4 grandchildren; Rick Radke, Michael Radke, Ally Radke and Clay Batchelor; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, December 20 at 2 pm in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD, where friends may call 1 hour prior. Burial in St. Pauls Parish Kent, Chestertown, MD. In August, 2006, she was moved to Kingswood Rehab & Nursing Center in Aberdeen, N.C., to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Carole T. and Leonard Barnard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayborn McCoy Thompson; her son, Ronald James Thompson; and great granddaughter, Jessica Mychael Danieley. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carole T. and Leonard Barnard, of Seven Lakes, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Joyce H. She was especially known for her beautiful quilts which are treasured by her immediate family and many that were purchased by persons who admired her talent. REED DICKERSON Susannah Dickerson Reed's Old War Pension Application War of 1812 #12835 contains the following information about Reed Dickerson and Susannah Dickerson Reed. It is possible that Susannah's maiden name is Gander, I have no proof of this. This maiden name was given in information left by Eugene Dickerson at the Roanoke, VA library. I have looked for the name Gander and not found it. My intuition tells me that this could possibly be Gardner, but I have no proof of this either. It appears in this application that there have been two requests for a pension from the War of 1812 - one is numbered #1659 and the other is #12, 835. It also looks like the bounty land application #is 222058 (the 0 could be a 6) The first request was granted to Susannah Dickerson for $3.50 a month.  The second application is requesting an increase to $4.00 (half of his pay seems to be the way the amount is figured). This was also granted on the date of June 3, 1858 to Susannah Reed who was then in Shelby County, Indiana. It reads, "Pension should have been allowed at 4$ per month as claimants husband was a Private Virginia Mil War of 1812 and received 8$ per month full pay.  Allowed Jan. 30^th (or 7th) 1861 from February 3rd, (or 17th) 1858 subject to a deduction of all payments heretofore made to her at $3.50 per month per certificate No. 1659.  It appears she should have received $3.50 for five years.  A letter is enclosed in the pension file requesting that she be paid all that the law allows. The letter came from Indianapolis, Indiana dated Dec. 31, 1860.  In a letter from Shelby County, Indiana is the following: State of Indiana    January 17, 1860 Shelby County     Be it remembered that on this 17th day of January in the year 1860 personally came before the undersigned a Justice of the Peace within and for the state and county above written Susannah Reed of said county, a credible person, who being duly sworn according to law, upon oath says that she is the identical person who was the wife of Reed Dickerson who was a soldier in the War of 1812, that said Dickerson did enlist in said service in Montgomery County in the state of Virginia and died in the said service at Norfolk Virginia.  That this affiant as a widow was allowed and did receive a pension on account of the service and death of said Reed Dickerson from the ___(no date) 1814 until the ___day of the year 1818 when she intermarried with William Reed at Montgomery County In the state of Virginia, except $44 which she believes was still due her. She further swears that her said husband William Reed departed this life on the 14th day of January 1847 at Shelby County in the State of Indiana.  This Affiant has ever since that date remained and still is unmarried.  This affiant is? inf?? that she is entitled to a pension from the death of her ?? last husband until this time.  She therefore makes this application for the same and also for the 44$ due upon her former pension at the time of her marriage with said Wm. That they were personally acquainted with William Reed her late husband. That said William Reed departed this life at said County of Shelby on or about the 14th day of January in the year 1847. That said Susannah has ever since that time remained sole and unmarried. And still is sole and unmarried. They further say under oath that they are well satisfied from their long acquaintance with her that said Susannah is the identical person she represents herself to be, that is that she was before marriage with said Wm Reed the widow of Reed Dickerson, who died in the Service of the United States in the War of 1812.                 Francis S.
