He was the youngest child born to this union. He spent most of his younger years growing up on a farm and graduated from the Bern, Kansas high school. On November 17, 1940 he was united in marriage to the former Frances Mae Craig. Harold enlisted in the Sea Bees during World War II and then re-enlisted into the regular Navy. After returning home from the service he and his family spent many years in Sabetha where he was employed as a truck driver. At the time Harold became ill, he and Frances lived in Lincoln, Nebraska where he was employed by Consolidated Freight Ways. They moved to Fairview, Kansas to be closer to their family. Death came at the Veterans Hospital in Topeka, on August 21, 1984 at the age of 61 years. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Pearl and Minnie; two brothers, Frank and Lawrence. Surviving are his wife, Frances of the home at Fairview; one son, Harold L. Hylton of Topeka, one daughter, Darlene Reynolds of Fairview; five sisters, Lillian Todd of Union, Nebraska, Grace Tupa of Pawnee, Nebraska, Mammie Hooper of Eugene, Oregon, Irma Simon of Corning, California and Helen Hinton of Romoland, California; two brothers, Howard Hylton of Redding, California and Warren Hylton of Seneca; five grandchildren, Maurice and Gloria Hylton, Leisa Johnson, Paul Jr. and Wade Reynolds. Services were held at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha on August 24, 1984. Rev. Nick Maynard officiated. Organ music was played by Marsha Strahm. She accompanied Eldon Mellenbruch, who sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Peace in the Valley" The casketbearers were Keith Hailey, Leroy Lawson, Ben Longberg, Gale Gakle, Warren Wilson and Rayburn Wikle. Military honors were conducted by the Sabetha V.F.W. Post 7285. The interment was made in the Bern Cemetery. Memorial contributions were made to the American Cancer Society and sent in care of the mortuary. 1984 Burial: Bern Cemetery, Nemaha Co., Kansas.
