11 June 1896, Fredericksburg Daily Star, pg 3, column 4:
"Killed by Lightning.
Mr. Nelson Tolson, an estimable young man of Stafford county, son of Mr. Daniel Tolson, was killed by lightning during a storm Monday afternoon.
Young Tolson was living with Mr. John McCoy and was plowing when the storm came up. He carried his horse to the stable and secured him and took shelter from the rain in a shed adjoining the stable.
The bolt struck the gable end of the stable on the opposite side from the shed, passed through the building knocking the doors from their hinges, stunning the horse and passing into the shed killed the young man. His death is greatly deplored by all who knew him.
He was buried yesterday in the graveyard attached to the Baptist Church at Stafford Store, Rev. A. J. Cummings conducting the service at the grave."
[When the Quantico Marine Corp Base took over the property at the Stafford Store area, they moved the graves from this church cemetery to the Cedar Run Cemetery located in Prince William County, VA.]
