FORBES, Violet Link,
(Granny), 87, of Roanoke, Va., died March 16, 2003 in Roanoke Memorial
Hospital. Violet, affectionately known to all as "Granny" was
born January 12, 1916 to the late Coy and Ada Link of Floyd, Virginia.
She retired from Eli Lilly in 1979 after 21 years of service. She is
survived by two loving daughters, Ada Mannifield and husband Benny, Linda
Ferguson and husband Raymond of Roanoke; daughter-in-law, Patricia
(Patsy) Forbes of Fort Pierce, Florida; five grandchildren, G. Daniel
Underwood, Cathy Shelton, David McCammon, Thomas A. Forbes, II, and Debra
Richmond; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Cundiff of Salem,
Va.; and one brother, Leon Link and wife Georgianna of Bristol, Tenn;
brother-in-law and wife, Donald A. and Sarah Forbes of Covington, Ga.;
sister-in-law, Glenna Link of Bristol, Va.; and a very special friend,
"Teresa". Violet was preceded in death by her husband, L.E.
"Jack" Forbes of Roanoke; son, Thomas A. Forbes of Fort Pierce,
Fla.; brothers, Alvin Link and Larry Link; and sister, Ernestine McElwee;
as well as seven brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law. Violet enjoyed
cooking, gardening, archery as well as the friendships from working at
Elizabeth Arden. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday, March 18, at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Ave. A graveside
funeral will be held at the Link Family Cemetery in Floyd, Va. at 2 p.m.
on Wednesday, March 19. A procession will leave Oakey's South Chapel at 1
p.m. Wednesday to go to the Link Family Cemetery for the graveside
service. Arrangements are by Oakey's South Chapel (989-3131).

Survived by husband, David Daniel Link, Roanoke; eight
children and spouses, Roby McDowell, Steve and Stephanie Link, Bo and Tammy
Link, all of Floyd, Jamie and Dawn Link, Bristol, Va., Melissa and Jeff
Mullins, Christiansburg, Wes Link, Robin and Dwight Brown, Joe and Laurie
Link, all of Roanoke; grandchildren, Nikki, Lindsey, Jessica, Dustin,
Tiffany, Joshua, Jacob, Billy, Andrew, Dylan, Morgan, Chelseah, T. C.,
Sara, Cody, Kindal, Michael, Danielle, Aaron; stepfather, John R. Angle;
half-sister, Kathleen Hurley Black; stepsister and brother, Kathy and Bim
Walker, Freddie and Becky Angle; mother-in-law, Rheba Link; sisters-in-law,
Betty and Ike Reynolds, Joan and Harless Akers, Brenda and Carl Hungate,

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Gardner
Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Gardner and Rev. Richard Kingrea. Interment
will follow in Link Cemetery, Check. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Sunday
at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday
and Monday. Many thanks to Cassandra, Peggy, Sara, Jennifer and others from
Good Samaritan Hospice. Donna and the support group from MDA, Dr. Paul
Cronk and staff. Memorial contributions may be made to MDA (A.L.S.)

Michael (Mike) Wayne Palmer, 57, of Gallipolis, Ohio, formerly
of Vinton/Chamblissburg, Va. passed away unepectedly on Sunday, September
11, 2016.
Michael earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering at VPI
& SU in 1981 and went to work at the AEP Phillip Sporn Plant in Point
Pleasant, W.Va. that year where he served as plant engineer until his
retirement last year after 34 years of service.
He was predeceased by his father, Ellis Wayne Palmer;
brother, Barry Lynn Palmer; paternal grandparents, Robert and Beatrice Link
Palmer and maternal grandparents, Billy DeLong and Margie DeLong (Harry)
Woods.
Surviving family includes mother, Peggy DeLong Palmer of Vinton; sister,
Linda Palmer of Moneta; niece, Kristen Palmer of Roanoke; nephews; Bradley
Palmer of Roanoke and Travis Palmer and wife, Heather of Troutville; great
nieces, Sophia and Ariel Palmer; sister-in-law, Kathy and BJ Ulrich of
Troutville; e-wife, Cindy Maynard of Gallipolis, Ohio and many etended
family members and friends.
A Celebration of His Life will take place at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September
15, 2016 at Lotz Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton with the Rev. Dennis Moore
officiating. Interment will follow in the Link Family Cemetery in Check,
Va. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2p.m. prior to the service at

Linda Faye Pollard, 61, of Check, passed away on
Saturday, January 22, 2011.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and
Gladys Huffman and one sister, Edith Carter. She is survived by her
fiance, David Link; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and David Steele;
one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Diane Pollard; five grandchildren,
Jamil, Travis, Dakota, Dylan, and Dalton; four sisters, Evelyn Altice,
Brenda Smallwood, Frances Carter, and Louise Carter; four brothers, John
Huffman, Cecil Huffman, Charles Huffman, and Melvin Huffman; her childrens
father, Donald Pollard, Sr. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on
Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend
Vinton Quesenberry, the Reverend Richard Kingrea officiating. Interment
will follow at the Link Cemetery. Friends may call at Gardner Funeral Home
after 11 a.m. on Tuesday where the family will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

James Curtis Puckett, 87, of Roanoke, Va., passed away
on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at the VA Medical Center.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served
in the Navy C.B.s in New Guinea.
He is survived by his wife, Paula Link Puckett,
of Roanoke; daughter, Joyce Puckett, of Roanoke; son, Curtis L. and Justine
J. Puckett, of Check; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on
Friday, October 9, 2009, at the Link Cemetery with Mitchell Floyd
officiating. Military Rites by the Floyd VFW
Post #7854 and
the American Legion Post #127. The family will receive friends on
Thursday, October 8, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home.

Joyce Ann Puckett, 62, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on
Wednesday, December 15, 2010, after choosing not to fight her battle
with cancer, to care for her mother who passed away in October 2010. She
was a loving daughter, sister, and animal lover who will be sadly missed by
her family and friends. Joyce, you did it your way. She leaves
behind a brother, Curtis and Justine Puckett, of Check; uncle and aunt,
Winston and Mary Link, of Roanoke; nephew, Stephen Link; and also, friends,
Janet and Anna. At the request of Joyce, there will be no visitation
or viewing. Graveside funeral Service will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday,
December 18, 2010, at the Link Cemetery with the Rev. Bruce Robinson

Paula
Link Puckett, 84, of Roanoke, Va., and formerly of Check, Va., died
at home on Friday, October 22, 2010.
She is
survived by her daughter, Joyce; son, Curtis and his wife, Justine;
her brother, Winston and his wife, Mary; as well as many cousins; and two
very special friends, Janet Toney and Bruce Robinson.
She was
the daughter of the late Guy and Allie Link and widow of James
Puckett, her husband of 61 years.
She was a
kind and loving spirit. She loved her family, friends, relatives and
animals. She could always make you laugh. A cruel disease took her ability
to walk and slowly took her life.
A
Graveside Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 24, 2010,
at the Link Cemetery near Check with the Rev. Bruce Robinson officiating.
There will be no visitation. Arrangements by Wood Funeral Home in Floyd,
VA.
