Duncan Family Cemetery, Duncans Chapel Rd (SR 730), Willis (Duncan), Floyd Co., VA. Uriah Turpin farm (1970’s) (old Smith farm)

From Duncan's Chapel Rd, you have to take the gravel road that forks with the one that takes you up to Duncan's Chapel/Community Cemetery. This road eventually becomes a pathway, through a tree farm. I was lucky enough to have Mr. Turpin let me follow his tractor to get there.

I had the pleasure of spending quite a bit of time with Roy Turpin, the son of Uriah Turpin. It was funny how we got to the subject of this "missing" cemetery. This one has nothing to do with Duncan's Chapel, hence the confusion.

Roy's son has replaced the fence around it, but the cemetery is extremely overgrown. I found one stone that I could photograph (Spencer Reed) and he verified that the last burial was 1954 (Maude Radford). He remembered the hearse could not get to the cemetery, so a horse and buggy had to take her up there.

I have obtained permission to go back once the growth dies off, but it will still be rough. I do feel it is safe to say the original survey is correct on who is buried here. It is a very large cemetery so likely has more burials, maybe unmarked.
