Burial: White Oak Grove. 1933 Obituary: Sarah Thompson Simmons, Wife of Hosea Simmons, departed this life June 19, 1933, age 67 years. She had been in poor health for several years, but for the past ten months she lingered between life and death. Her husband, children, and many good friends anxiously watching and hoping for her recovery, but all in vain. Different doctors were called to see her and did all they could, but we all have to yield to His pleasure. The Lord gave her wonderful display of the riches and glory of His grace. She was perfectly willing to die, and talked beautiful, asking her husband and children to meet her in heaven. With all her own burden, she helped to bear theirs, she gave to the poor, understandingly no one ever went away from her door hungry. She would always divide with those in need. She joined the Primitive Baptist church, but owing to her sickness, she was not baptized She often spoke of how she would love to be buried beneath the liquid wave. Funeral services were held at White Oak Grove Church by her pastor, Elder J. M. Dickerson, in the presence of a large crowd of sorrowing relations and friends, after which she was laid to rest in the cemetery nearby. She leaves to mourn her sad death, her husband, one daughter, and six sons, Garfield, Kellie, and Dolph, of Iowa...Nasby of Illinois, Crosby of Roanoke, and Lummon of home. Mrs. Mettie Akers of IL. Three brothers, Wade of Riner, Two sisters, Mrs. Isaac Hill of Floyd, and Maude Fulcher of Christiansburg. We'll try to live to meet dear mother. When this sad life is over, then we will all be together, to live forever more. Sad and lonely is our home. 1933 Burial: White Oak Grove Cemetery, Floyd Co., VA.
