Victoria (Vicky) S. Newcomer, 70, of Parkersburg passed away June 2, 2006, at the Willows Nursing Center following a lengthy illness.

She was born Nov. 20, 1935, in Banner, Va., a daughter of the late Roscoe and Kathleen Slusher. She was a 1953 graduate of Dupont High School.

Vicky was a dynamic woman throughout her lifetime. She was an active member of the West Virginia Federation of Democratic Women and served as president of the Wood County Democratic Women's Club from 1978-1984. She was voted one of the Outstanding Young Women of America in 1965. Over the years, she was an office manager throughout Parkersburg; she worked for Heck's, NCR, Dr. Frame, Holiday Inn and Comfort Suites.

Her proudest moments, though, were supporting her sons in their music and actively participated in Parkersburg South Band Boosters during their school years. Vicky was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Parkersburg and a former Sunday school teacher. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and devoted friends.

She is survived by three sons, Dean A. Newcomer and his wife, Susan, of Morgantown, Darin A. Newcomer and his wife, Kim, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Dana Newcomer and his wife, Angie, of Florida; one grandchild, Kaleigh Post of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, Roger Slusher of Dupont City, W.Va., and David Slusher of Fredericksburg, Va.; and two sisters, Dorothea J. Adams of Wardensville, W.Va., and June Staats of Charleston, W.Va.

She also leaves a devoted friend, Dottie Havens.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy M. Newcomer in 1989.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Jim Kinsler officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Roger B. Slusher, 81, of Dupont City passed away January 21, 2019. He is now reunited with his wife, the love of his life, Evelyn Marie Slusher who passed away in 2015.

He was a retired from Union Carbide/Rhone-Poulenc/Bayer Plant in Institute. Roger faithfully attended and was an Elder at the Living Word Christian Center, Charleston.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Roscoe B. and Kathleen M. Slusher; and a sister, Vickie Newcomer.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2019 in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes, with Pastor Gary Pickens officiating

Slusher Sr. Surviving are her sons and daughter-in-law, Burks (''Butch"") Slusher Jr., John W. and Carolyn Slusher, all of Roanoke; her grandson, Scott Slusher; her sisters, Claudine Webber and Nita Carroll, both of Salem, and a sister-in-law, Catherine Puckett of Salem. CARSON, Velma Slusher, 90, of Radford, died Sunday, October 31, 1993, in a Lexington hospital. She was the widow of Robert S. Carson. In 1985, Mrs. Carson was the first winner of the Robert McNeil Memorial Award for Community Service. She is survived by many cousins. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday from the Central Cemetery in Radford. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. from The Presbyterian Church of Radford with the Rev. George Ducker officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford.

Mrs. Margia S. Howell of Radford died Monday night in a Dublin nursing home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Howell, first chief of police of the City of Radford.

Surviving are one son, Grover C Howell, Dublin; one daughter, Mrs. Nelson (Ruby), Wimmer, Christiansburg; one sister, Mrs. Eva Carter, Dublin and 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

SLUSHER, Colonel William Terry, 67, of Roanoke, died Friday, November 24, 2000, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Roanoke, born November 22, 1933, the son of the late William (Bill) Slusher and Catherine Terry Slusher. A true son of Virginia, Colonel Slusher served in the United States Marine Corps and was a graduate of Officer Candidate School. He was a member of U. D. T. unit and later was a Saturation Diver with the oil industry. Saturation Diving was first used in the construction of Smith Mountain Dam. Colonel Slusher also served as a 1st lieutenant in the National Guard. Innovation and invention were hallmarks of Colonel Slusher's continuing career in industry. He developed commercial and household products for bioremediation. He was president and CEO of Slusher Products, Inc. Colonel Slusher continued his military career with the Virginia Defense Force. With Commission of the Governor, he was Executive Officer and later Commander of 1st Battalion of the 4th Brigade and upon his death, was Commanding Officer of the 4th Brigade. His tenure as commander saw the Virginia Defense Force rated best in the Continental United States, and the 4th Brigade rated best in Virginia. Surviving are his wife, Douglas Ann Lewis Slusher; three daughters and sons-in-law, Pamella Landau and David of Brussels, Belgium, Julie Illg and Richard of Gretna, Louisiana, Gwynn Hamel and Mike of Lake Mary, Florida; several uncles, aunts, cousins, and one nephew. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2000, at Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. Rodney Longmire officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. and Monday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Lotz Salem Chapel is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Francis of Assisi Service Dog Foundation, Roanoke, Va.
