POFF, L. Edward, (Ed), 81, of Roanoke, died Thursday, March 22, 2001.

He had been employed with Fulton Motors and was later the manager of Volkswagen of Roanoke. He also operated his own auto dealership for many years here in Roanoke. He attended Greene Memorial United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Blanche Irene Webb Poff and a brother, Glynn Poff.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy H. Poff; children and spouses, Linda and James Wood, Marilyn and Vaughn Meier, Joseph and Robin Poff, Teresa and Dave Goode; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Helen Poff.

Services will be at Oakey's South Chapel, 3 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2001 with Dr. Harry Y. Gamble officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Doris Poff; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Helen Johnston, Shirley Horn and Janet Young. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and also of Faith Rebekah Lodge #98. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 20, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011, at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with the Rev. Ivey Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family would like to thank everyone on 3 West at Richfield for her care. She was employed for many years as a seamstress at Puritan Mills, and later was a Nursing Assistant at Friendship Manor. She was a faithful member of Calvary United Methodist Church, in Salem. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Sheldon M. Poff and Vernon O. Hoback; as well as two sisters, Arietta "Retta" Holland and Mabel Beckner. She is survived by her daughter, Dianne Decker and her husband, Richard "Dick" Decker Jr., of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Richard "Chip" Decker III and his wife, Marla, of Richmond, and Sharyn Pugh and her husband, Chris; and great-granddaughter, Catherine Pugh, all of Salem; and two very special friends, Stephen and Nancy Kessler, of Roanoke. The family would like to take this opportunity to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Pheasant Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, for the kindness, care and love shown during her stay there. Hazel Poff Corbin, age 83, died Monday, October 29, 2001 in Charlotte, N.C. She was born July 17, 1918 in Copper Hill, Va., the daughter of the late Guy Milton and Pearl Ada King Poff. She was preceded in death by her husband, David P. Corbin, in 1993; and her sister, Elizabeth Jackson, in 1995. Mrs. Corbin taught in Virginia public schools for more than 30 years, retiring in 1977 from Douglas Freeman High School. She had lived in Richmond, Va. from 1958 to 1997 and in Charlotte, N.C. from 1997 to 2001. She received a BS from Radford College in 1940 and an MS from the University of Virginia in 1962 and was a longtime member of the Chamberlayne Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Richard P. Corbin M.D. and his wife, Claire B. Corbin of West Bath, Maine; four grandchildren, Eugenie C. McAllister of Indianapolis, Ind., Anna Katherine Corbin M.D. of Columbus, Ohio, David Ethan Corbin of Boston, Mass. and Zachary Andrew Corbin of New Haven, Conn.; three great-grandchildren, Alexander Corbin McAllister, Andrew Richard McAllister and Claire Anne McAllister; a sister, Virginia P. Poff, Paul M., 88, formerly of Richmond, Va., died May 6, 2017 in Ann Arbor, Mich..

Paul was born in Copper Hill, Va., the son of Guy M. Poff and Pearl King Poff.

He was a graduate of Check High School in Check, Va. Paul was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Japan and Korea during the Korean War. He retired in 1993 from the State Corporation Commission, where he served as an insurance examiner for many years.

He married Avoline Smith on September 17, 1966. She preceded him in death on June 25, 2015.

After his wife's death he resided in Ann Arbor, Mich. to be near his niece Heather Allen, who survives him. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Blatt of Harrisonburg, Va. and 2 nephews, Elliot Jackson of Eagan, Minn. and Richard Corbin of Topsham, Maine.

Two sisters, Elizabeth Jackson and Hazel Corbin also predeceased him.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday May 17, 2017, at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave., Richmond, Va. 23238.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Paul's name to the Richmond Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 2519 Hermitage Rd., Richmond, VA 23220.

COOK, Virginia Poff, 79, of Rocky Mount, passed away Sunday, December 20, 1998. Born November 26, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Herman Poff (Alma Florence Poff). She was a graduate of Radford University; a retired teacher having taught 35 years at Burnt Chimney Elementary School. She was a member of Burnt Chimney United Methodist Church; United Methodist Women's Club and the Home Demonstration Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert L. Cook Jr.

Surviving are one son, Albert L. Cook III of Wirtz; daughter, Sue Cook Day of Spotsylvania, Va.; grandchildren, Timothy Cook, Poulsbo, Washington, Julie Cook, Virginia Beach, Va., Kimerly Cook, Brian Cook, Rebecca Cook all of Winchester, Va., Ryan Day and Shawn Day both of Spotsylvania, Va.; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Dudley of Roanoke and Opal Cook of Vinton; brothers-in-law, Elijah Cook of Wirtz and Dick Cobbs of Charleston, W.Va.; numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 1998 at Lynch Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Johnson and the Rev. J. Wesley Inge officiating. She was a member of Cave Spring Baptist Church. Surviving is her daughter, Judy Thomas Rouse; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny S. and Teresa B. Thomas; grandchildren, Chad M. Thomas and wife, Andrea, Caron D. Rouse, Kristi L. Rouse, and Tyler W. Thomas. Services will be at Oakey's South Chapel, 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2004. Pastor Jim Reeves will officiate. Joseph Byron Poff Jr., USN Ret., 88, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 12, 2011. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Theresa Turner; his first wife, Ann Poff; and two sisters, Myra Stiglich and Frances McGraw. He was a member of the Troutville Lions Club. Mr. Poff retired from the Navy life he loved after 21 years of service. At the time of his retirement, he had attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was a member of the American Legion Post #248, VFW Post #484, and the Fleet Reserve Association. Surviving are his wife, Jean Poff; children, Ann "Nancy" Dooley and husband, Eric, of Philomont, Va., the Rev. Leonard Southern and wife, Kathy, of Salem, Keith Southern and wife, Lynn, of Danville, Jeannie S. Dillon and husband, Linnie, of Panama City, Panama, Don M. Southern and wife, Angela, of Fredericksburg; 11 grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; sisters, Sue Watson, of Troutville, Juanita McLain, of Roanoke, and Betty Francisco and husband, Cecil, Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Music Ministry at Melrose Baptist Church or to Fort Lewis Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted noon Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Melrose Baptist Church 3520 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Larry Sprouse and the Rev. Leonard Southern. ALDRIDGE, Iris Poff, 95, of Copper Hill, passed away Thursday, March 28,2002 at Skyline Manor Nursing Home. Surviving are a daughter, Shelby Link of Copper Hill; three grandchildren, Justin and Lesa Link of Floyd Andy and Laura Link and Clay and Kathy Link of Copper Hill; four great-grandchildren, Justin Link and Stephine Link of Copper Hill, Hayden Link and Nikki Link of Floyd; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Hubert Harman of Check; many nieces and nephews and a very special niece, Hilda Simpson Harmon. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Wood Funeral Home in Floyd with the Rev. Dan Walker officiating. Interment will be in the Aldridge Family Cemetery (next to the Old Copper Hill Methodist Church). The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Wood Funeral Home.
