CECIL R. KASTER of Wickenburg, died May 24 in Wickenburg Regional Hospital. He was 71. Mr. Kaster was born Feb. 11, 1925 in Darlington, Wise. He had lived in Arizona for the past eight years. Mr. Kaster and his wife, Geraldine, who survives him, were married for five years. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Post. No. 12 in Wickenburg. He enjoyed, gardening all his life, and his friendship with many friends, at the American Legion post. No. 12 in Wickenburg. Before his admittance into the hospital’s Extended Care Unit, Mr. Kasten enjoyed attending Redeemer Lutheran Church, where he was a member. Private cremation has been conducted. DOROTHY KAROLYN KEARNEY, 76, of 5309 North Prospect Road died at 4:40 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2004 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in peroria, Ill. Born August 3, 192 in Dana, Ind. to Orville and Ruth BONWELL RUSSELL. Surviving are one son, Don (and Merilyn) KEARNEY of Lexington, Ky.; three grandchildren, Donielle and (and Phillip) Koen of Lexington, N. C., and Don Kevin KEARNEY of Lexington, Ky. She preceded in death by her parents. Dorothy graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. receiving her Teaching Degree. She later received her Masters Degree in Library Science from Rosary College, which is now Dominican University in Rosemont, Ill. She also studied at Oxford University in England. She was a teach with the Metamora, Ill. School District, and a librarian at Peoria Public Library, and at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. She was a member of the American Library Association. In 1976 she purchased H&R Block franchises in Canton, Dixon, Galesburg, and Monmouth, Ill., and also Parker, and Wickenburg, Ariz. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2004 at Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria, Ill. Rev. Walter Wilkins will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.

JAMES KEEFE, JR. PASSES AWAY
Funeral services were held last Monday morning at the Xavier chapel at the Brophy college in Phoenix for James B. KEEFE, Jr., who passed away at a Phoenix sanatorium last Friday afternoon. Mr. Keefe, known to his many friends in Wickenburg as “Jimmy,” came to Arizona as a health seeker several years ago, and was employed at the Rodeo Club before it closed, He is survived by his mother, Mrs. C. REDDICK, Lexington, Ky., two brothers, Raymond and Everett, and a sister, Mrs. William BRATTON, of Cincinnati, Ohio. Interment was made in the St. Francis cemetery at Phoenix.

HOST OF FRIENDS MOURN PASSING OF MISS RUTH KEENEY
Many friends of MISS RUTH KEENEY gathered at the Wickenburg Chapel at 2 o’clock last Saturday afternoon to pay their final respects to a young woman who made a vain but gallant struggle against long illness. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. William BARKER of the first Baptist Church and burial took place in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Miss Keeney, Chief Operator at the local exchange of the telephone company since late in 1949, was a charming, friendly and gracious person who had made many warm friendships since moving to Wickenburg in 1946. She was efficient and helpful to her duties at the telephone company and it is quite probable she had many more friends than she was aware of; those whose only contact with her was over the telephone lines.
Born in Winslow
A native Arizona, Miss Keeney was born June 1, 1921, in Winslow, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Keeney, Sr. She attended the Winslow schools and upon her graduation from the high school there in 1939, she entered the service of the telephone company. She later moved to the Phoenix office and transferred here as an operator in 1946. In 1949 she was promoted to Chief Operator. Miss Keeney passed away at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 19, at Community Hospital here where she had been a patient since October 24. She had previously been too ill to work regularly and was hospitalized previously since May.
The Survivors
Surviving are one sister and three brothers: Mrs. Jessamine KLUTING of Las Cruces, N.M.; Kenneth C. KEENEY of Whittier, Calif.; Robert E. KEENEY, Jr., of Albuquerque and Ralph KEENEY of Millington, Tenn. Two aunts also survive: Mrs. Bernice WEST and Mrs. Janetta NEWMAN, both of Winslow. The sister, brother Robert and two aunts came here for the funeral services. Pallbearers were George HERSHKOWITS, Mack DOWDY, Larry FIELDS, Claude WORKAMN, Coney OROSCO and Gene GARFIELD.

ROGER KELL passed away Jan. 11 after a brief illness. Roger was born in Clinton, Iowa, March 22, 1933 and was raised in Calamus, Iowa, until 1949 when the family moved to northeast Iowa. There he graduated from West Union High School in 1951. After working a short time for Bell Telephone, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1952 and served 20 years. Upon retiring from the military he returned to Clinton County, Iowa. He lived in Wheatland for 20 years, working as a maintenance electrician in general manufacturing plants. He retired to Wickenburg with his wife Patsy in 1994. Though he loved the Navy, he enjoyed working part-time in several stores in Wickenburg where he made many friends and enjoyed the area. Roger is survived by his wife Patsy and daughters Roberta and Rebecca. He was preceded in death by grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Austin Briggs, mother Joyce Kell, father Sam Stumbaugh, stepfather Robert Kell, and brother, Dale Kell. There will be a reception for friends and family on Thursday (Jan. 17) from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Wickenburg Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home & Crematory.

Master Sergeant THOMAS B. KELL, US Marine Corps, Retired, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 16 in Peoria, Ariz. He was born on February 23, 1917 in Syracuse, Kan., to Thomas T. and Blanche (Hunter) Kell, the youngest of four children. He graduated from Florence High School in 1935. He attended college for a while and in August 1940 joined the Marine Corps and served for 20 years. One of his most memorable experiences was watching the first raising of the American Flag on Mt. Suribachi on Iwo Jima on his birthday in 1945. Tom married Margaret Kreps on February 2, 1944 in San Diego, Calif., They had three children, Geri, Tom and Joyce, while living in San Diego, and moved to Lakewood in February 1951, where they lived while their children grew up. They began traveling on weekends and after retirement they moved to Big River, Calif. Eventually, they traveled full-time for 11 years, all over the U.S., Alaska, Canada and Mexico. In the early 1990s, they joined the Escapees RV group, fondly called "Skips," and Tom became a Rainbow Builder, helping to build the SKP's park at North Ranch in Arizona. They had a home at the Ranch until deteriorating health forced a move. Even up to the morning of his passing, his sense of humor and orneriness were very present. He enjoyed visits from his wife, his children and great-grandchildren, and always had a twinkle of glee in his eye. He enjoyed working outside, especially early in the morning before the birds were awake. His presence will be missed by his wife Margaret, his daughters Geri Allen and Joyce (Burrall) Sanders, his son Tom (Deborah) Kell, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother, as well as a granddaughter and a son-in-law. A memorial service will be held in the fall. In lieu of flowers, Dad would have appreciated a donation be made to the American Legion Post #62, 10995 N. 99th Ave., Peoria, AZ 85345.

Castle Hot Springs Area Resident Dies
CHARLES F. KELLER, age 55, died at his home 3½ miles east of Castle Hot Springs early last Saturday night, January 8. Death was due to natural causes. His son Frank, age 30, was with him at the time. The father and son came to the Castle Hot Springs area just a short time ago to engage in mining activities. They had been in the logging business in Oregon for the two previous years. Mr. Keller's wife, Martha, resident of Columbus, Indiana, also survives.

ROBERT LEROY KELLEY of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 4. He was born Nov. 9, 1942 to Lewis and Lucille THOMASON KELLEY in Wickenburg, Ariz. Bobby is survived by brothers Billy Kelley and Rick Kelley, sister Donna Kelley McGhee, Uncles Ira Kelley and Clyde Thomason, and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were held at the Congress Cemetery. Family gathered at the home of Rick and Jana Kelley in Congress afterwards.

ISAAC KELLY, Father Of Vic, Summoned In Wisconsin At Age 83
Funeral services were held Monday in Dallas, Wis., for Isaac H. KELLY, father of Vic KELLEY of Wickenburg, who passed away Friday, November 12, in a hospital at Rice Lake, Wis. Mr. Kelly, who was 83 years of age, had been in ill health for several months. Besides the Wickenburg son he is survived by his wife, two daughters and three other sons. Vic Kelly was at his father's bedside, having left Wickenburg on Wednesday preceding his death.

HESTER E. KELLY of Wickenburg, died Oct. 20, at 100 years of age. Mrs. Kelly was born Dec. 29, 1900 in Iowa. She lived for over 40 years in the state of Washington, before moving to Quartzsite, Ariz., where she and her husband Chester, who preceded her in death, lived for 25 years. She came to Wickenburg five years ago. She loved to knit and crochet, and was constantly making things for people. Survivors include a stepson, Robert Lyle Kelly; a granddaughter, Diana L. Downs; two great-grandchildren, Chester W. Downs and Fawn L. Brown; and three great-great grandchildren, Amanda, John and Ashley.

ROBERT KELSO of Yarnell died June 29, 2001 in Yarnell. He was 85. Mr. Kelso was born June 13, 1916 in Minneapolis, Minn., and had lived in Arizona for 18 years. Robert was a graduate of Walkerville Collegiate Institute. He moved to Arizona from Deland, Fla. Robert was a manufacturer's representative for 30 years in Detroit, Mich. He moved to Colorado in 1969, then to Peace Corps Jamaica in 1977-79, then to Deland, Fla., from 1979-83. He has been in Yarnell since 1983. Robert was active in the school and library for many years.
Survivors include his wife Barbara Fisher Kelso; daughters Katherine Kelso of Victoria, B.C., Canada, Belinda Kelso of Denver, Colo., Jane Kelso Lawson of Crawford, Colo, and Suzanne Kelso Tittes of Eldora, Colo.; son Michael David Kelso of Kailua, Hawaii; stepbrothers Lucius Greve of Bay City, Mich; and grandchildren Bryson Joseph Tittes of Eldora, Colo., Silas Benjamin Tittes of Eldora, Colo., Oliver Toberoff Kelso of Kailua, Hawaii, Rebecca Toberoff Kelso of Kailua, Hawaii, and Sarah Neisa Young of Maryville, Tenn. Frey Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wickenburg handled the arrangements.

Yarnell Women’s Father Summoned
W. A. KENNEDY, 61, father of Mrs. Esther Mae HARSHA of Yarnell, died in Prescott last Saturday. Funeral services and burial were in that City Wednesday. Mr. Kennedy, a native of Topeka, Kansas, had resided in Prescott for 20 years. He was retired Santa Fe Railroad employee. Other survivors are the widow, Myrtle; another daughter, Mrs. Myrna KALEMBER of Prescott; and one son, Charles of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

MARTHA ELAINE KENNON-BAILY, age 85, died at Sun West Assisted Living on Jan. 5. She was born August 30, 1922 in Morrilton, Ark., to William and Thelma Powell Kennon. When she was a young teen, her family migrated to southern California. Martha was a tall shy beauty with dark eyes, gorgeous auburn hair and a smile that could light the night. She sang in her church choir, women’s Glee Club, and volunteered for the USO, dancing the night away. She’s also been a hair model, sewed most of the elegant gowns she worn at hair shows. As a naturally gifted artist she produced an amazing collection of beautiful original oil paintings. She held a senior citizen permanent hunting/angling license, was skilled in both lakes and deep-sea fishing, and was quite the aim in target shooting. She was a den mother on camp outings for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Martha loved to garden, especially roses. ]As a young adult she witnessed the flight of the Spruce Goose and more than 50 years later was present for the opening of Hughes flying boat at the Evergreen Museum of Flight in Oregon. She loved adventure, spending her 75th birthday white-water rafting, and celebrated her 80th flying with grandkids. She also enjoyed a relaxing round of golf with friends. She worked for the Lockheed Martin Space Program and was thrilled to travel to Florida to witness the space shuttle lift-offs. Prior to living in Oregon, she retired to her home in Lake Tahoe where she loved the picturesque sites for painting, fishing in the deep blue lake and downhill skiing at Kirkland or Heavenly Valley. She was an extra in a Peter Seller’s movie, and witnessed Bruce Jenner carrying the Olympic torch. She also volunteered as a nurses’ aid a position she loved and took very seriously. Her favorite travels were seeing the beautiful natural sites throughout the United States via RV. She was a lifetime member of FEDCO, Inc. She held long time memberships in the Elks organization, AARP, and was a founding member of United We Stand America. She grew up in the shadow of women’s suffrage, the passing of the 19th Amendment and always took her right to vote very seriously.
Martha was an extremely giving and loving daughter, sister, niece, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She adored and always went the extra mile doing individual and special things for each of her grandchildren. She was there for her aging parents and when others were in need. She loved to laugh, to dance and reading was a quiet solitude she relished for as long as her failing vision allowed.. Later ‘Books on Tape’ gave her great comfort. Animals were always part of her life; she considered them among her best friends. She honors those who rescue and care for abused and discarded pets. As per her wishes, in lieu of flowers please make a contribution to the local care and rescue home for abused and abandoned animals, “Muttley Crew”, through Dr. John Oplinger at the Wickenburg Veterinary Clinic. A few years ago, she made her final retirement move to the warmth and beauty of Wickenburg, Ariz. Martha lived a full life and crossed peacefully just before mid-night on Saturday night. She leaves behind her brother, three children, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, with one more due in a few months. A memorial service will be held Friday (Jan. 11) at 3 p.m. at Wickenburg Funeral Home Chapel, 187 N. Adams St. in Wickenburg. Family will have a private graveside service in Prescott, Arizona. We would like to thank all of those who have administered such loving care to Martha. GEORGIA REAGAN KENSON, 88, of Prescott, passed away from natural causes on May 1, 2004. She was born to a pioneer family in Springerville, Ariz. on May, 20, 1915. The family moved to Phoenix in the 1920s. There she met William E. "Bill" Kenson and was married in September of 1932. She is survived by two children, William A. (Bill and Carole) Kenson of Peeples Valley and Jeri Conklin Robson of Wickenburg. The family lived in various areas of Yavapai County before moving to Prescott in 1940 where Bill went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad. Georgia was active in Women of the Moose, Monday Club, Railroad Auxiliary, and a member of the Methodist Church. She was a fantastic homemaker and mother. Bill and Georgia celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary shortly before Bill lost his life in an accident in January of 1983. They especially enjoyed times with their family, hunting, fishing and traveling. Georgia's father, James P. Reagan was also born in Springerville in 1888 and her mother, Allie Annie Archer was born in Oklahoma Territory in 1892. She was the eldest of five sisters. Two sisters have preceded her in death, Dorothy Miller and Gwen Reagan. She is survived by two sisters Gertrude Latham of Glendale and Betty Bryan of Bullhead City; grandchildren Sherri (Howard) Conklin Kalender of Kansas City, David (Laurie) Conklin of Wickenburg, Kimberly (David) Kenson Miller of Gilbert, Douglas (Carolyn) Conklin, of Wickenburg, Mark (Kathy) Kenson, of Prescott, Deidre (Bob) Conklin Schena, of Philadelphia and Alan (Wendy) Kenson of Skull Valley. She also leaves 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Services were held on Thursday, May 6, 2004 at Heritage Memory Mortuary, 131 Grove. Visitation was held at 10 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. with interment at Mountain View Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Prescott Valley Hospice, P.O. Box 26565, Prescott Valley, AZ 86314. Services were entrusted to Heritage Memory Mortuary.

LAST RITES HELD HERE MONDAY FOR NICHOLAS KERKES
Funeral services were held at the Wickenburg Chapel Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock for NICHOLAS KERKES, age 25, life-long resident of Wickenburg and vicinity, who passed away last Saturday morning in a sanitarium in Glendale, following an illness of 12 years. The funeral services were conducted by Father L. J. SULLIVAN of St. Anthony's Catholic Church here, and burial was in the family plot in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Nicholas was born in this section of Arizona and lived here until he entered the sanitarium to undergo treatment for arthritis. He was a freshman in the Wickenburg High School when stricken. An older brother, Sgt. Thomas KERKES was killed in action on Leyte on December 13th of last year while a third brother, Pfc. Mitchell KERKES, is in a hospital in England, following an illness contracted while serving with the armed forces in Germany. Parents of the three boys are dead. Three sisters survive Mrs. Pierre POUQUETTE of Wickenburg and Sarah and Annie KERKES of 510 East Taylor, Phoenix.

TOMMY KERKES IS KILLED IN ACTION
Another Wickenburg boy has lost his life in the service of his country. Mrs. Mary Pouquette received word Thursday morning of the death of her brother, Sgt. Tommy Kerkes, of wounds received in action in the Philippines, on December 13th, just four days after his 31st birthday. He was serving with the Infantry in the Seventh Division. The message from the War Department was sent to Sarah Kerkes, in Phoenix, who called Mrs. Pouquette. No additional details were given. Tommy enlisted December 1st, 1941 and had been overseas 24 months. He was one of seven children. Both parents are dead. A brother, Mitchell Kerkes, is confined to a hospital in England.

Hold Memorial Mass For TOMMY KERKES
A Memorial Mass was held at 10 o’clock Sunday morning, January 14th, at the Catholic Church in memory of SGT. TOMMY KERKES, who died of wounds received in action in the Philippines, on December 13th. No further details of his death have been received by the family here since the message from the War Department on January 11th. Sarah and Annie Kerkes, sisters of Tommy, now living in Phoenix were here for the services.

MICHAEL JON KERSTIENS, Sr. was born June 21, 1947 in Phoenix, Ariz., and passed away Aug. 18 at his home in Wickenburg, a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph H. KERSTIENS and mother Geraldine Louise EASON. Mike and his family were a significant part of our Wickenburg community. He was employed at Napa, Bromm Chevrolet, and Wickenburg Oil. He was also an Exalted Ruler and member of the Wickenburg Elks for many years. His love in life was fishing. He often enjoyed spending weekends at Lake Alamo with his family and friends. He also took after his mother in his passion for hunting, the outdoors, and taking his family camping. Mike is survived by his son Michael Jon KERSTIENS, Jr. of Wickenburg; stepdaughters Melissa KRIEBLE and Samantha ROBERTS of Phoenix; grandchildren Michael and Tiera KERSTIENS; four step-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law Louise and Richard GRANTHAM, uncles and aunts Larry and Joyce FIELDS of Wickenburg, Neva RHODES of Glendale, Ariz., and Kenneth FIELDS of Lancaster, Kan.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Thursday (Aug. 28) at 11 a.m at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery with arrangements made by David’s Desert Chapel. A reception following the service will be at the Wickenburg Elks Lodge for all who can attend. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Elks Christmas Shopping Fund is suggested. Send donations to the Elks Lodge 2160, Wickenburg AZ 85390. We are extremely grateful for all the love and support Wickenburg has shown us during our time of loss. Mike loved this town and the people. You have meant so much to him. We miss you dearly and our hearts find comfort in knowing you are now at peace and free of suffering. You have blessed so many people with your life. You will live on in our hearts and you will never be forgotten.

Rites Held For JOHN L. KERWIN
Funeral services were held September 2 in Prescott for JOHN L. KERWIN, 61, a resident of Congress engineer for the past five years who passed away August 24 in Whipple Veterans Hospital, Prescott. He had been a patient there for nine months. Father Bernard NOWICKI conducted the rites with full military honors. Interment was in the Whipple cemetery. Mr. Kerwin was a former mining engineer and a U. S. Navy veteran of World War I. He was born in Leadville, Colorado, September 27, 1893. He has no known survivors.

JIMMY KILLER was born Oct. 17, 1971 in Phoenix, Ariz. After a short time there, his mother Toni HERSHKOWITZ and father Tommy KILLER moved to Wickenburg, where he lived the majority of his life. Jimmy loved sports - everything from hunting and fishing to becoming an all-season athlete for Wickenburg High School, where he played quarterback for the football team, guard for the basketball team, and pitcher for the baseball team. He began to excel in baseball to the point that when he moved to Arkansas, he joined an American Legion team and had the privilege of pitching in Busch Stadium, the then home of the Saint Louis Cardinals. Jimmy worked construction, primarily drywall like his Uncle Danny, up until the accident that left him paralyzed almost a year from his 21st birthday. With such a strong will for life, Jimmy continued to battle each day for almost 15 years. Jimmy let go of life as we know it and embraced life eternal on June 7, 2008 in Phoenix. He is survived by his mother Toni Hershkowitz of Wickenburg; father Tommy KILLER of Wickenburg; maternal grandmother Eileen BROWN of Arkansas, paternal grandmother Ruby KILLER of Wickenburg; brothers George and Billy Ray and stepbrother Aaron HERSHKOWITZ; and nephew Braydon HERSHKOWITZ. He is preceded in death by both of his grandfathers, Merle BROWN and Don KILLER. A celebration of his life was held at Mount Hope Assembly of God on June 11 with Pastor Duane MIDDLETON officiating. She and her husband Keith moved to Wickenburg in 1985. FARISSA KIMBRELL It is indeed with sorrow that we announce the passing of FARISSA "Faye" KIMBRELL on May 16. Born Jan. 30, 1938 in Douglas, Ariz., she grew up in the Snowflake area in northern Arizona before moving to Phoenix. Faye was preceded in death by her brother Frank KIMBRELL, father Albert Farris KIMBRELL, and mother Clarissa (SMITH) KIMBRELL. She is survived by sisters Nell POWELL (Loren) and JoAnn POWELL (Ramon). Nieces Bobbi (Mark) THURMAN, Rae Lynn (Les) BUSI, Geri (Andy) JOHNSON, Pam (Mike) ACOSTA. Nephews Kenneth (Button) POWELL and Phillip (Michele) POWELL and special extended family of 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and devoted friend Peggy CALHOUN. Faye was an extraordinary nurse. Her first job she worked as a school nurse at the Grand Canyon. She also worked at several hospitals in the valley. She worked with doctors at Sun Health/Boswell Hospital to develop many groundbreaking procedures in the field of cardiology. She worked at the Mesa/Boswell School of Nursing many years and using her extensive knowledge base, was more than capable of teaching students from the beginning level up to the graduating level. She lovingly called all of them her “Cherubs”. Arizona is filled with Faye’s Cherubs! The students always came first. On one of her hospital stays, the students preparing for graduation - they hoped - were having trouble learning channels of up-load and down-load, among other things. The nurses on the station brought into her room, two conference tables and 18 chairs and she taught the students, from her bed, what they needed to know to pass their finals. That’s just the kind of person she was. Faye has always been a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, leading choirs as well as many teaching callings. She always accepted her challenges making the best of them, and battled her illness with dignity and humor. She died from multiple system failures. Visitation will be on Wednesday (May 21) from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wickenburg Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday (May 22) at 10 a.m. at the Wickenburg Ward building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with visitation one hour prior to services at the Church. Family graveside services will be held at the Snowflake Cemetery in Snowflake, Ariz. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Faye’s memory can be made to the Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1060 Sunrise Trail, Wickenburg, AZ 85390. ALPHA M. KINDRED of Morristown died July 4at her home in Morristown. She was 88. Mrs. Kindred was born Feb. 12, 1908 in St. Louis, Missouri. She lived in Arizona for 31 years. Mrs. Kindred was a loving mother, who enjoyed spending time with all her grandchildren. She was a member of Community Alliance Church. Mrs. Kindred was preceded in death by her son in 1946, and one brother in 1984. Survivors include her husband Lonnie O. of Morristown; daughter Betty J. FERGUSON of Jefferson City, Mo.; son Bulord of Durango, Colo.; six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. CURTIS R. "NICK" KING of Wickenburg, died June 18 in Wickenburg. He was 63. Mr. King was born June 27, 1932 in, Holtville, Calif. He had lived in Arizona for the past three years, coming from Utah. Mr. King served in the U.S. Navy, primarily in the submarine service, and was veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Wickenburg Elks Lodge. He owned an auto service supply company in Holtville, Calif., which his father, Curtis, had founded. When Mr. King retired in 1990 he sold the business to his son, Rick. Golf was Mr. King's passion and he was a member of the Wickenburg Country Club. He also enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He enjoyed hunting, everything from dove as a child to deer when he was older. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, of Wickenburg; daughter and son-in-law Theresa Ann and Emil SCHAFFNER of Holtville, son and daughter-in-law Curtis "Rick" and Angie KING of Holtville; mother Lois King of Holtville; and grandchildren, Roy, Neal and Loren SCHAFFNER, and Casey and Nicholas KING, all of Holtville. At his request, Mr. King's remains will be scattered by air in the nearby desert at a later date. Contributions in Mr. King’s name may be made to Hospice of the Valley. 1510 E. ETHEL G. KIRBY of Wickenburg died Dec. 7 in Wickenburg. She was 100 years of age. Mrs. Kirby was born Nov. 26, 1896 in Logan County, Oklahoma. She had lived in Arizona for the past 24 years, coming from Elizabeth Lake, Calif. Mrs. Kirby's father made the run into Oklahoma Territory in April of 1889. They were called "89'ers." She was born before Oklahoma was a state and was the sixth child in the family. Mrs. Kirby was baptized in 1935. She is a descendant (through her mother) of one of the first Dutch (Holland) settlers of New York City, Trinity Church stands on that property today. She also taught Sunday School in Enid, Okla., and received a teacher's certificate from Central State Teachers College in Oklahoma. Mrs. Kirby was a legal secretary in Enid, Okla. She also was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Enid for 25 years. Mrs. Kirby was a member of the Auxiliary of Railroad Engineers' Wives, Madonna Garden Club, Enid Gem and Mineral Society and several other organizations. She also enjoyed oil painting and china painting. Survivors include her daughter Maxine Coffin Failing of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren Jay C. Failing of Kamuela, Hawaii, and Janice Failing Elizondo of Las Vegas; six great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kirby was preceded in death by her husband Clarence in 1959; son Gerald Coffin of Wickenburg and Congress in 1992; grandchild Michael E. Failing of Mission Viejo, Calif., in 1994; and seven sisters and brothers. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 11) at Frey Funeral Home. DELBERT "PAPA" KIRBY of Wickenburg, died Dec. 6, 2001. He was 90. Mr. Kirby was born Aug. 11, 1911 in Millerstown, Texas. He was the owner of the Wickenburg Mining Supply for over 40 years, from the mid-1930s through the 1970s. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in Bellemont, Ariz. from May to December 1933. "Papa" Kirby settled in Wickenburg in 1935. He married ALVY ELEANOR DAVIS in Wickenburg at Ruby and Pat's home on June 5, 1937. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Seaman 1st Class. He was a past Commander of the Wickenburg American Legion. He served the Wickenburg community as Mayor of Wickenburg, as a member of the volunteer fire department for more than 20 years, as Town Manager, as a member of the Town Council, a member of the Wickenburg School District Board of Education, a member of the Desert Caballeros Western Museum board, and as director of the town's recreation program. Survivors include his wife, Alvy "Nannie" Eleanor Davis Kirby; daughters Arelene Lizarraga and Pauline Stokes; sisters Ova Greenage, Violet Prosise; brother Marvin "Hoot" Kirby; grandchildren Dwayne Hill, Vanessa Lizarraga, Ranae Hill Byers and Joe Lizarraga; and great-grandchildren Nikki Byers, Bucky Hill, Shaina Byers, Devin Sutter and Joey Lizarraga. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Kirby, and brothers Alfred, Clifford, Vivian "Pistol" and Eldon Kirby. Services were Tuesday, Dec. 11 at the Wickenburg Funeral Home. Graveside services were held Tuesday, Aug. 6 at the Wickenburg Cemetery, with Pastor Robert HARRISON officiating. All arrangements were handled by Brown's Wickenburg Funeral Home, Inc. at 187 N. Noble and Ruth lived in Wickenburg until a few years ago and were active in the Wickenburg Lion's Club. No services will be held. FUNERAL PENDING FOR MIKE KLASIK
Funeral services were pending Thursday for MIKE KLASIK, pioneer resident of this community, who passed away Tuesday morning at Community Hospital. His death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage. He collapsed while eating breakfast at the Horseshoe Café at 8 a.m. and died a few hours later. He is believed to have been about 80 years old. Born in Yugoslavia, Mr. Klasik came to Wickenburg in the early 1900’s and worked in several mines of this area, including the Ore Grande, gold Bar and others. In recent years he suffered from failing vision. He had been living alone in a trailer house at the Tony O’Brien ranch. So far as is known, he had no living relatives in this country or in his native land.

J.B. KLEIN VICTIM OF MINE ACCIDENT
Funeral services were held Thursday morning at. St Anthony's Church for J. B. KLEIN, 47-year-old resident of Wenden who passed away at Community Hospital here at 1:43 p.m. last Sunday from injuries received in a mine accident early in the morning of the same day. Burial took place in the Wickenburg Cemetery. A Rosary was said for the deceased Wednesday night at the Wickenburg Chapel.
Caught In Cave-In
Mr. Klein was caught in a cave-in at the Love Mine near Artillery Peak and was extricated by fellow miners after 45 minutes of strenuous effort. It took another three hours to get him to the hospital here where he was found to have suffered a broken pelvis and dislocated right hip. His death was due to shock, the attending doctor said. Mr. Klein, his wife Mildred and their two young daughters lived here for a period of time several years ago. He engaged in mining while Mrs. Klein was employed at the Del Rio Motel, then under the management of the Tucker COXWELLs. Surviving are his widow, two daughters and two sons; four brothers and four sisters and five grandchildren.

Body of BUDDY KNIGHT Now Enroute To U.S.
Mrs. Lena Knight has been informed by the Marine Corps that the body of her son, VERNON (BUDDY) KNIGHT, JR., is now enroute by ship to San Francisco. While no detailed plans regarding funeral services can be made until the body arrives, it is planned to conduct the burial in the Naval Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla. Buddy received his training at Pensacola. His widow and infant son resided there. He lost his life when his plane crashed into the sea off the coast of Japan June 1.

Rites Wednesday In Massachusetts For MRS. KOELSCH
Final rites and burial for Mrs. LILLIAN KOELSCH took place Wednesday afternoon in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, her birthplace. The body was taken there by plane Monday night, accompanied by the husband, Eddie KOELSCH, following services that afternoon in the Wickenburg Chapel conducted by the Rev Bill BARKER. Mrs. Koelsch died at 1 a.m. Friday in Good Samaritan Hospital, Phoenix, where she had been taken following her collapse in a downtown Phoenix store Thursday afternoon.

Born in Hopkinton, Mass., Mrs. Koelsch lived in the east until she moved, with her family, to Wickenburg in 1946 where Mr. Koelsch became associated With Judy's Bakery. He is now preparing his own bakery for opening in the Hyder Building in the near future. They were married in Hopkinton in 1935. Surviving, in addition to the husband, are two sons, Peter, 15, .and David, 18. Also the mother, Mrs. Augusta HANSON; two sisters, Eleanor and Alice HANSON, all of Holden, Mass.; and a brother, Victor HANSON of Grafton, Mass. Her father died in 1946.

She had lived in Arizona for the past five and one-half years. Mrs. Koller loved her family. She was very fond of sewing, gardening and canning food. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Rita G. and Lawrence Permenter of Yarnell; son and daughter-in-law Garland and Elsie Kennedy of Fresno, Calif., and son and daughter-in-law Joe and Diane Koller of Ardmore, Okla.; sisters-in-law Mae Gibbs of Ardmore, Juanita Posey of Texas, and Myrtle Nelson of Texas: nephew Stan Edwards of Porterville, Calif.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. DONALD EUGENE KRAMER of Salome, Arizona, passed away July 25 in Sun City West, at the age of 76. He was born May 28, 1932 in Mount Carmel, Illinois, to Charles KRAMER and Beulah KING KRAMER. He moved to Snyder, Texas, and began working in the oil fields at the age of 17. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1952 where he met his wife of 52 years Shirley Judd while they were serving together at Camp Lejeune, N.C. They were married in December of 1955. Following his military service he began working for the U.S. Postal Service in 1962, working first in Moab, Utah, until 1970 when he transferred to Green River, Wyo. He was promoted to SPO (supervisor) in 1974 and later served as post master in Kimmerer, Wyo., until his retirement in 1988. He and his wife Shirley began wintering in Arizona in 1991 and have been living in Salome for the last five years. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dee Anna KRAMER in 1975 and a sister, Thelma Mueller. Donald is survived by his wife Shirley of Salome; daughters Melody ANDERSON (Harold) of Richland, Iowa; and Lee Anna RICHARDS (Nate) of Green River, Wyoming; brother Chuck TANNER ( Vickie) of Bullhead City, Ariz.; and sister Joyce PICKENS of Minnesota; grandchildren Tiffany, Thomas, and Harmon Anderson and Kimberly MANSIR; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held in the fall in Bouse, Ariz. Arrangements are under the direction of Wickenburg Funeral Home and Crematory.

STANLEY CHARLES KRIEGER of Wickenburg, passed away peacefully at home on May 5 after a battle with cancer. He was 73. He was born in Canada to Carl and Victoria Rosenberg Krieger on Feb. 28, 1928, the fourth of six children. Stan was a quiet man who did many kind acts for his neighbors and for those who were less fortunate than he was. He is survived by his mother, Victoria; brothers Herold and Wesley; and sisters Irene and Gloria. He is also survived by his daughters, Sharon (David) Hunt and Carmen Boyes, 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and dear friend Emily Kroeger. ANTHONY R. KUDELA (Tony) passed away at Wickenburg Community Hospital on Nov. 1 at the age of 74, from melanoma. He was born Dec. 10, 1933, in Vermilion, Ohio, to Joseph and Mary Kudela, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Vermilion High School in 1951 and from 1955 to 1957 served in the United States Army in Germany. In January of 1957, he married Joan E. Horton of Clearview, Ohio, with whom he spent 45 happy years. She preceded him in death on January 29, 2002. On April 7, 2007, he married the new love of his life, Geneva (Jean) Goslin, who survives him. He worked as a parts and service manager, retiring from Bromm Chevrolet in 1995. After that, he always kept busy and could be seen all around town doing his “handy-man” jobs, usually with his beloved doxie Mindy accompanying him. He was the third youngest of six children, two of whom preceded him in death - a brother Donald in 1945, and a sister, Sister Mary Ephrem RSM (Kathleen) in 1999. He is survived by his brother John of Wickenburg, and his siters Mary Ann La Prad (Paul) of Michigan, and Joan Baker (Chip) of Ohio. He is also survived by his wife Jean’s daughter Terri Merrifield (Robert) of Marana, and Jean’s grandson Travis Merrifield of California. He was Uncle Tony to six nieces and nephews - Sherryl Madges, Theresa Robandt, Jody Lovejoy, Donna McClelland, William Kudela, and Paul Kudela. A graveside service and burial at Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery will be conducted by David’s Desert Chapel Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Friday (Nov. 7) followed by a luncheon at the West Park clubhouse. For those wishing to honor Tony’s memory, a contribution to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014, would be appreciated.

MASONIC RITES HELD FOR GEORGE W. KUNS
Many members of the Wickenburg chapters of the Masonic and Eastern Star lodges attended the last rites for George W. KUNS, veteran Santa Fe employe, held at the Church of the Bretheren in Glendale Wednesday, with Rev. F. H. MILLER, officiating. Following the church service the Masonic ritual was exemplified by the Hassayampa lodge, of which he had been ruler since its organization. Mr. Kuns died suddenly Monday afternoon at Glendale, where with his wife, he had stopped of a load of lettuce. As he started up the car he slumped over the wheel and attempts to revive him failed. Mr. Kuns was 68 years old and had lived in Arizona since 1896. The wife and two daughters survive. At the time of his death Mr. Kuns was section foreman for the Santa Fe Date Creek, where he made his home. He had been employed by the railroad for almost 40 years, and was known and loved by a wide circle of friends. DARLEEN R. KURTZ of Wickenburg, died April 1. She was 93. Survivors include her sons Jack of Wickenburg and George of Sarasota, Fla.; daughter Jerry SALOMON of Palm Desert, Calif.; sister Dorothy HOLLANDSTEINER of Kalispell, Montana; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Private services were held.
