Hudgins-Smith house was located at the northeast corner of the intersection of routes #1/138 (Union Mills Road, Mecklenburg County, 36° 44' 55"N, 78° 06' 07"W. It was built in 1856 by William Sandefur Bugg, Robert Bugg, and William Bugg for John Harper Hudgins and his wife, the former Mary James Walker. The house passed to Hudgins’s nephew, Benjamin Blackwell Smith, and was later razed for development of an industrial park on the site.
