ADAMS Family

Sackfield ADAMS was born to William and Nancy Adams in 1775. He married Elizabeth "Betsy" DAILEY in Mecklenburg, Virginia, on 23 January 1795. Betsy was born in 1775 to William Dailey Jr. and wife Patsy (William died in Mecklenburg 1800).

By 1810 Sackfield and Betsy were in Newberry County, South Carolina. He is listed on the census record as Zach. With four sons. By 1812 the couple had six known sons; Hugh; Miles; Samuel; James; William and George. The will of Sackfield's father, William, can be found in Newberry County, Box #1, page 4, will of 17 Oct 1814 was probated 1816 and names wife Nancy; sons Zackfield, Allen, William, Miles, and daughter Polly.

Betsy and Sack were in Newberry for the 1820 census and can be found on page 124, it list Sack as 45+; wife - 45; 2 males 16-26; 1 male 10-16. Sometime after they left South Carolina and can be found on the 1836 tax list of Giles County, District #2. They are on the 1840 Giles County census record page 96; Sackfield 60-70; wife 50-50; male 10-15. Land entry records suggest they lived on Elk River and Jenkins Creek. Sack is not on the 1850 Giles census but Betsy 75 can be found in District #6 next door to son George 38; wife Rebecca29 (Gilbert); daughters Hester 11; Susan 9; Nancy 6; Margaret 4; Ida 4; and son Isaac 1/12. Most of this family remained in and around Giles County with exception to Miles and wife, Hespie Lewis, who located in Pulaski County, Arkansas

A note of interest concerning the family of Betsy Dailey - Adams. According to her Father's will of 26 January 1800, Mecklenburg, Virginia, there were two children, Betsy and brother Vines, who married 14 October 1795, in Mecklenburg, Rebecca Adams. Also note that William Jr. is the son of William and Frances of Brunswick County. William Sr. will names four daughters, Elizabeth-Malone, Patty, Molly, Sally and five sons William Jr.; Dennis; Benjamin; Arthur and Edmund. The will named George Malone and Sack Pennington as executors and was witnessed by James Marshall, William Robertson. This family, like the Adams, family did not own slaves.
