FIRST GENERATION
1. Gene Wayne Reamey was born in Mecklenburg County,
Virginia. Gene Wayne Reamey went by Wayne while in high school. Also used Wayne
in the Navy and in the work force.
He attended North Miami High Junior
High School in North Miami, Dade County, Florida from which he graduated the
ninth grade in June 1955. At that time the new high school was still being built
so all students from the 8th grade and above attended one high school that
combined the junior and senior high classes together. The student population was
3,200 students. Wayne then continued his schooling at North Miami Senior High,
graduating with 557 other students in June 1958.
While attend high school
his family lived in Sunhaven Terrace Park in Ojus, Dade County, Florida. His
home room at North Miami High was #3. Wayne was low keyed in high school and did
not get involved in very many school activities. He did attend the senior prom
with Gail Wilder. She was not a member of the "Class of 1958".
After
graduating from high school Wayne joined the United States Navy. When Wayne was
discharged from the Navy he went to work for DuPont in Martinsville, Henry
County, Virginia, working in the fibers division. Wayne retired after twenty
nine years from DuPont but stayed in Martinsville.
Wayne's hobbies
include hunting, traveling across the United States, racing and sports fan. He
is also a very big Civil War buff.
Wayne has ancestors who fought in the
Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and the Civil War. Many of his lines go back to
the mid-1600's in Virginia. Wayne's ancestry goes back 32 generations, through
the English and Scottish Royal families and the landed gentry.
Gene Wayne
Reamey married Rebecca Campbell in November 22, 1962. She goes by the name of
Becky. Her parents are John L. Campbell and Blanch Mills. Blanch married a
second time to Edwin H. Seay. From the second marriage Blanch had another
daughter named Donna Seay and a son named Michael Seay.
Gene Wayne Reamey
and Becky Campbell had two sons:
1) Kevin Wayne Reamey was born in
Hollywood, Broward County, Florida. He married Lynn Smith and had one daughter
named Billie Leigh Reamey. He then married 3rd to Denise Jenkins.
2)
Patrick Wayne Reamey was born in Martinsville, Henry County, Virginia. He
married Tamara Turner and they have one son named Patrick Wayne Reamey Jr.
The surname Reamey was originally Remi in France in the 1400's but changed
to Remy after his ancestors arrived in the Virginia Colony in the mid-1600's. In
the mid-1700's, each of the sons of Asbury Remy took different spellings of the
surname that included Ramey, Rainey, Raney, Rayme, Reamy and Reamey.
A
few Remy cousins include county singer Loretta Lynn and Patty Loveless. Patty's
mother was Ruth Ramey from the Kentucky branch of the line.
Another hobby
Wayne has is doing family genealogical research. Through his research he found
that he had a few ancestors who fought in the Civil War for the Confederacy.
This love for his ancestors led Wayne to join the National Sons of the
Confederacy organization with his two sons, Kevin and Patrick, and his grandson
in 2003.
Today, the Sons of Confederate Veterans is preserving the
history and legacy of these heroes, so future generations can understand the
motives that animated the Southern Cause. The SCV is the direct heir of the
United Confederate Veterans, and the oldest hereditary organization for male
descendants of Confederate soldiers. Organized at Richmond, Virginia in 1896,
the SCV continues to serve as a historical, patriotic, and non-political
organization dedicated to insuring that a true history of the 1861-1865 period
is preserved.
Membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to
all male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate
armed forces. Membership can be obtained through either direct or collateral
family lines and kinship to a veteran must be documented genealogically. The
minimum age for membership is 12.
Charge to the Sons of Confederate
Veterans:
"To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the
vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the
defense of the Confederate soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history,
the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he
loved and which you love also, and those ideals which made him glorious and
which you also cherish. Are you also ready to die for your country? Is your life
worthy to be remembered along with theirs? Do you choose for yourself the
greatness of soul?
Not in the clamour of the crowded street, Not in the
shouts and plaudits of the throng, But in ourselves are triumph and defeat."
