GEORGE A. CROW
HISTORY
Vernon Hayes Cash has donated some very interesting pictures on three lines of his family, beginning with George A. Crow, an early Nemaha resident. Successive lines lead to the Ritchey family, also early residents in Nemaha County, and the Hayes family.
He says, "I became interested in my mother's family history after going through boxes of pictures and documents I had been trucking from place to place for thirty years. After a visit to my cousin's home in Lakewood, Colorado, where we went through the trunks and boxes she had from our grandmother - Elydia's - estate, my interest increased. Although my father's side of the family had been documented back to about 1690 by an aunt, I knew little about the Hayes/Ritchey/Crow lines."
"The pictures and documents which have been contributed to the Nemaha County files for the NEGenWeb are just a small portion of the interesting historical information which our family has for these ancestors."
To enjoy the pictures, and story of these families, go to: George A. Crow Family

On the back of the Hillsdale picture is the following: "Former Hillsdale Store and Post Office, served by Star Route between Nemaha and Barada, Nebraska. The Star Route came to Aspinwall, Hillsdale, St. Deroin and Barada. Barada is named after Antoin Barada, the son of a French nobleman and an Omaha Indian girl. He was born in 1807. Hiram Slagle had the store. Hiram Slagle, father of William Edward Slagle, his son Edward William Slagle, father of Edward Ankrom Slagle." A list of persons in the picture follows.
For more information, and to view the pictures, select Hillsdale pictures below.
THE WILSON FAMILY LETTERS
Glenn Wilson has found some family letters that have survived since the 1867 to 1869 period. These provide a view of personal history and the times in Nebraska. The writer, Glenn's ancestor, was a school teacher in the area of St. Deroin at the time the letters begin. He has recently begun tracing his family history, and would like to find out more about Bettie A. Tebbs, the writer of these letters.
