COLONIAL WAR VETERANS
Researched, written and contributed by: Homer Musselman
Stafford County was established in 1664. It has been estimated that the population of Stafford County was about 3,000 people. In 1671, a fort was authorized to provide for the defense of Stafford. Captain Peter Knight was the commander. The militia was formed in 1682. Each militia company of "Rangers" consisted of 20 horsemen. The names of some militia officers are listed in the county records. Unfortunately, the names of the enlisted men were not recorded.
