Services for George Daniel Turpin will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Magnolia Funeral Home, Alexandria with Bro. Nathan Martin officiating under the direction of Magnolia Funeral Home, Alexandria.

Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday, March 9th at Magnolia Funeral Home and from 8 a.m. until time of service Tuesday, March 10th at Magnolia Funeral Home. Interment will be at Alexandria Memorial Gardens, Woodworth.

George Daniel Turpin, 71, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009. He was retired from the Air Force in 1974 after serving time in Korea, Vietnam and Germany. He received an associates degree from Arkansas State University in 1973, a bachelors degree from Louisiana College in 1975 and his masters degree from Webster College in 1977. He also retired from the State of Louisiana as a BCSW in 2001.

He was an avid golfer, loved animals, reading, collector of antiques, coins and stamps. He also enjoyed photography, sky diving and star gazing.

He was preceded in death by father, Clayton Monroe Turpin; mother, Iva Frances Higgs; and his faithful companion, "Snowy".

He is survived by his two sons, Daniel Turpin of Morgan City, Donald Turpin of Ft. Worth, Texas; two grandchildren, Nicole Perry of Morgan City and Chad Redmon of Ft. Worth, Texas; and very special friends, Helen Warren of Pineville and Bill Redmon of Ft. Worth, Texas; three brothers, Claudie Turpin of Minnesota, Charles Mosher of New Mexico, and Curry Mosher of Texas; and one sister, Linda Arnold of Texas.

Thomas Curry Turpin, 87, of Heaven Hill Road, Morgantown, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at Monongalia General Hospital. He was born Feb. 11, 1915, in Floyd County, Va., a son of the late William Edgar and Lula Quessenberry Turpin.

He was a retired mine foreman for Consol Coal Co.

He is survived by three daughters and spouses, Lillian Faye and Carl Rife, of Mocksville, N.C., Kathleen Lula and Jack Barr, of Port Charlotte, Fla., Jeanette Lynn and Ronald Cooper, of Gastonia, N.C.; three sons and spouses, Thomas Wade and Flora Turpin, of Morgantown, Douglas Bruce and Maria Turpin, of Germantown, Md., Ronald Lee and Nelly Turpin, of Statesville, N.C.; three sisters; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Marie Wade Turpin; four brothers and four sisters.

Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home on Thursday, June 20, from 6-8 p.m. Graveside funeral services will be held at Beverly Hills Cemetery on Friday, June 21, 2002, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Junior Koon officiating

Erby Wilmer Turpin Sr. loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, 87, of Dublin, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, after valiantly enduring with inspiring dignity for over a decade, many life threatening illnesses and pain. His example of patience in trial is unsurpassed. Dad was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Inez (Bubbles); his parents, Elbert and Velva; brothers, Dewey and Iford; and sister, Verley. He is survived by his wife, Lula Mae Turpin; sister, Gertrude and husband, Harry East; daughter, Nancy Shorter and husband, Mike; sons, Erby Jr. and wife, Renee; Tony and wife, Dana; two step daughters, Debbie and husband, Daniel; Lois and husband, Doug and two step-sons, Ronnie and Donnie Akers; loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Dad lived his life in the service of God, family, and his country, always putting the needs of others before himself. He found joy in hard work and the rewards it brings. He loved birds, going to the mountains with Tony, and keeping his property fastidiously maintained. He instilled in the hearts of his children to love unconditionally and forgive quickly. As a WWII veteran of the United States Army, he earned many commendations including two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. Dad was a prisoner of war in Germany. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, 11 a.m. in the Bower Funeral Home Chapel, Pulaski, with the Rev. Michael Blouse officiating. Interment will follow in Newbern Cemetery with military honors conducted at the graveside by the Pulaski VFW Post 1184 assisted by the Patriot Ryder's. She was the widow of Michael Florence Portrey.

The funeral will be Wednesday at ll a.m. at Stevens Funeral Chapel with burial in Dublin Cemetery, Dublin.

Surviving are one daughter Mrs. E.W. Akers Jr., Pulaski; one sister Mrs. Callie Showalter of Radford, two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Stevens Funeral Home.
