Walter was born and raised in Floyd, Virginia. He was a retired Roanoke City Police officer having spent twenty-five years of service as a patrolman. He then served as warehouse foreman for the Roanoke County School System. He was a loyal member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Mountain Dale Lodge #49 Independent Order of Oddfellows. Walter was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast and admirer and expert of steam engines. In addition, he had a love for clocks, which he collected and repaired for many years. He was a longtime member of Shenandoah Baptist Church and most recently Faith Missionary Baptist Church. Walter was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many and will surely be graciously missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Alice Turman; and two brothers, Woodrow and Doris Turman. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Addie Mae Turman, Christiansburg; son and daughter-in-law, Donald Lee and Romona T. She was very active up until her death and enjoyed getting out as much as possible, including working out at the fitness center. She sincerely appreciated those that gave her rides to the activities and their friendship. She was extremely dedicated to her children, and she will be missed.
