She was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin Smith, Harry Smith, and Edgar Smith. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Colene T. and Thornton Cannaday, Bedford; two granddaughters, Rhonda C. Wilson, Lake Wiley, S.C., Lisa C. and Edward R. Turner, Forest; a great-granddaughter, Brittanie Turner, Forest; three sisters, Cornelia Gallimore, Elaine Dobyns, both of Christiansburg, Vivian Nolen, Salem; a brother, Ralph R. Smith, Jenkintown, Pa. A funeral service will be conducted Monday, July 29, 2002 at 2 p.m. from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford by the Rev. Ed Greer. Dease and husband, Marc of Forest; granddaughters, Brittanie Berry and husband, Ben of Forest, Emily Gibbons of Raleigh, N.C.; her grandson, Ryan Gibbons of Raleigh, N.C. Walter Lee Turman, 92, of Christiansburg, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at New River Valley Medical Center. Walter was born and raised in Floyd, Virginia. He was a retired Roanoke City Police officer having spent twenty-five years of service as a patrolman. He then served as warehouse foreman for the Roanoke County School System. He was a loyal member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Mountain Dale Lodge #49 Independent Order of Oddfellows. Walter was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast and admirer and expert of steam engines. In addition, he had a love for clocks, which he collected and repaired for many years. He was a longtime member of Shenandoah Baptist Church and most recently Faith Missionary Baptist Church. Walter was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many and will surely be graciously missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Alice Turman; and two brothers, Woodrow and Doris Turman. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Addie Mae Turman, Christiansburg; son and daughter-in-law, Donald Lee and Romona T. Turman, Salem; granddaughter and husband, Leigh Ann and David Foster, Roanoke; great-grandchild on the way, Taylor Foster; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2005 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with the Rev. Michael Vest and the Rev. Alvin Crutchfield officiating. Addie Mae Gardner Turman, 98, of Christiansburg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday, July 17, 2015. She was born in Willis, Virginia to the late John and Lena Harris Gardner. She was also preceded in death by her husband Walter Lee Turman.
She loved to garden and was especially known for her beautiful rose garden. She enjoyed life and was always happy to welcome visitors into her home.
She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Don and Ramona Turman of Salem; granddaughter, Leigh Ann Foster of Roanoke; great-granddaughter, Taylor Foster of Roanoke; sister, Faye Mitchell of Christiansburg; brother, Willie Gardner, Roanoke; numerous nieces and nephews.

Elma S. Turman, 87, of Floyd, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at New River Valley Medical Center. She was born on April 20, 1919 to Joshua and Ellen (Nichols) Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow W. Turman. "Ma" came from a large family and was no stranger to hard work. She was well known as a very good cook and worked many years at the cafeteria of the Floyd Elementary School. She also generously donated her efforts to various community groups. She was a member of Floyd United Methodist Church, the Floyd Rebekahs Lodge, TOPS, and various other organizations over the years. She was very active up until her death and enjoyed getting out as much as possible, including working out at the fitness center. She sincerely appreciated those that gave her rides to the activities and their friendship. She was extremely dedicated to her children, and she will be missed. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Charles W. and Victoria Turman, Blacksburg, Va., Thornton L. and Linda Turman, Bogart, Ga., Larry D. Turman, Floyd, Va.; grandchildren, Chuck and Debbie Turman, Springboro, Ohio, Chris and Treva Turman, Blacksburg, Va., Craig Turman, Nashville Tenn., Lee Turman, Bogart Ga.; great-grandchildren, Amber, McKenzie, Lucas, Logan, Courtney and Carly Turman; sisters, Aileen St. Clair, Roanoke Va., Lois Hammond, Salem Va.; numerous nephews and nieces; special family friend, LaVern Beaver and her daughter Alexis. He retired as owner and operator of Floyd Gulf Station, West End Gulf Station and Floyd Tire Shop. He attended New Dan River Primitive Baptist Church. An antique auto enthusiast, he was a charter member of the Roanoke Region AACA. Mr. Turman was committed to community service and was actively involved in bringing progress to Floyd County. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by parents, Elmer L. and Alice Turman; brother, Woodrow Turman; and daughter-in-law, Jeanie M. Turman. Luther Howard Turman, 89, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2010. He was born on June 25, 1921. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise J. Turman; his parents, James M. Turman and Lena Harter Turman; siblings, Fred M. Turman and Thornton L. Turman. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. Surviving him are his son, William H. "Bill" Turman and Linda; daughter, Patricia T. Plaster and Gene; grandchildren, Michael W. Bransome and Melissa, Thomas S. Bransome and Courtney and Lori Ann Turman McGuire; and seven great-grandchildren, Breanna, Samantha and Zachary Branscome, Moira K. Howard, Riley Thomas Branscome, Josh McGuire and Hailey McGuire. A Graveside Service will be held 1 p.m. on Friday, October 29, 2010, at Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, Va., with the Rev. Bobby Lorton officiating. Louise Johnson Turman, 85, of Christiansburg, passed away Monday, December 15, 2008 at her home. Louise was a veteran of the U.S. Army WAC Corps during World War II, she was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, and was employed by Montgomery County Library as the driver of the bookmobile for thirteen years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Mallie Johnson and a brother, Andy Johnson. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Luther Howard Turman; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia T. and Eugene Plaster; a son and daughter-in-law, William H. "Bill" and Linda Turman; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and a sister, Jessie Ruth Fitzgerald, of Holiday, Fla. At her request, there will be no visitation and a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 in Sunset Cemetery, conducted by Pastor Randy Morris. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church or Christiansburg Rescue Squad in her honor.
