On the 15^th day of March 1854, personally appear before me a Justice of the Peace, in and for the County and state aforesaid, Jim Johnson & Delia Johnson – residents of said county who being sworn acording to the law declare the family bible of Mrs. Nancy Rigney have this day been presented to them, and that the following is a true and correct copy of the marriage of Isham and Nancy Rigney and births of their children. VIZ:

Isham Rigney and Nancy Howell was married 22^nd December 1808.

Jincy Rigney was born 11 September 1809. (this is Jane Rigney m. William Harris)

Andrew Rigney was born 2^nd October 1811.

David Rigney was born 11 October 1813.

They further declare that David Rigney is now dead, they further declare that the said record of said marriage of the said Isham & Nancy, and the births to be genuine, and that the said record is in the writing of David Howell, the grand father of the said children.

Dusty provided more information re: an indenture for Greenwil Rigney. He believes this is probably the same Greenville as noted here in Families of Floyd Co., VA, but as of 8/98 it is not proven.

“This indenture made the 8^th Sept in the year of 1814, witness that Daniel Spangler and Charles Simmons, Overseer of the poor in and for the county of Montgomery of the one part and John Sowers of the other part witness that Spangler and Simmons have put forth and bound Greenwil Rigney a poor boy of the age of 5 years and 8 months to be an appointee of with the said J Sowers to dwell from the date these presents until said appointee comes of age at 21 years. The appointee will take Sowers as his master and faithfully serve him”

Dusty notes Greenville was removed from Sowers for mistreatment in 1821. In June 1826 he is an apprentice to Joshua Thompson.
